I had a very upsetting experience with Dr. Bao-Tran Truong, D.M.D. at Personal Dental Group and Staff, Rancho Cucamonga, CA . During a procedure, the doctor used overheated equipment and burned my tongue three times. Left me alone in the room with not even the assistant. I was misdiagnosed and the injury became severe -- I lost my sense of taste, suffered intense pain, and now I have a permanent deformed tongue. I could not eat normally for over 20 days. Dr. Bao-Tran Truong, DMD changed my eating experience forever. And I had to learn how to talk without slurring my words. I am traumatize now by dentists. I eventually had to seek treatment from an oral surgeon because I did not receive proper follow-up care, adequate medication, or accountability from the office. When I requested my records, I was also concerned that parts of the documentation did not accurately reflect my experience. All of the times I reached out to their emergency phone number and did not get the follow-up care I needed was conveniently not included in the file. Giana was my hygienist and I have to say, that my experience with her alone will have me returning to Persona for my dental needs. She was thorough, gentle, and so considerate, being mindful of anything that exited my mouth onto my face during my cleaning lol. I appreciated that she listened to my concerns and offered suggestions on how I could better target some areas. Dr. Trung performed my cleaning the last time I was here and she was also wonderful. Dr. Shaw performed my exam at this visit and he was also very thorough. I definitely feel like my teeth are in good hands here. I went to Persona Dental Group in Rancho Cucamonga today for my 11:45 a.m. deep cleaning on the left side. I arrived on time and was ready to pay the $192 copay with my Inspira HCRA card, but it was declined because the office hadn't submitted the required info to Inspira beforehand -- something I didn't know because this was my first time using an HCRA. I felt embarrassed when the card was declined, but the staff did not walk me through the process or explain that I could pay out-of-pocket and submit a reimbursement request later. I'm sure the office has had other patients use an HCRA before, so they should know the process. I stayed in the office and spent about 30 minutes on the phone with Inspira trying to fix it. By the time I finished, they told me they couldn't see me and that I'd be charged a $50 no-show fee -- even though I was literally there the whole time. I was so frustrated by this that I canceled my next appointment for my right side, scheduled for next Monday, because I didn't want to risk another $50 fee. Charging a no-show fee when a patient is present and trying to pay is unfair. I hope the office addresses this and updates their procedures so other patients aren't treated this way. read more

Okay... I'm literally sitting here in my chair... an hour and fifteen minutes after my scheduled appointment time. My teeth have been cleaned and now I'm waiting on the dentist. Been sitting here at least for twenty minutes and I actually haven't heard the dentist in over an hour... It's 3:47 and I've only now heard him return to the office... I don't understand how it's okay for them to be so inconsiderate with our time, but don't you dare cancel on them because there's a fee to pay.... My hygienist was amazing though- koodos to Giana!!! Beware! This business has unqualified personnel performing dental procedures. On May 1, 2025, I visited Persona Dental for a cleaning service., which was performed by Dr. Carmen Cheung. Dr. James Shaw was not in the office on the day of my visit. After my cleaning by Dr. Cheung, advised "Alexis" would be performing the polishing of my teeth. Alexis seemed very inexperienced and was not skilled with using the tools required during my polishing. When checking out at the front desk, I informed the staff, (Brianna and Brenda) of my displeasure with the procedure by Alexis and they informed me that their Dental Assists were all off from work that day, so Alexis (no recall of her title) was filling in. Once home, I researched online the duties that can be performed by Registered Dental Assistants (RDAs) and Dental Assistants (DA) and learned that only RDAs can perform the polishing procedure. I immediately called Personal Dental to inquire further on "Alexis'" title. The reception personnel would not inform me of Alexis' last name but placed me on hold to have me speak to another employee. Carina then spoke to me and advised that Alexis was a new staff member and was timid in her duties, and confirmed she was not an RDA but had just finished her DA education. Carina said Alexis' last name was Hernandez and advised she would have Dr. Shaw call me. Dr. Shaw then called me and apologized for my experience. He confirmed Alexis was not an RDA but said it was not uncommon for RDs to conduct polishing procedures. He also contradicted Carina by saying Alexis' last name was Delgado. Given Dr. Shaw's nonchalant attitude, I can only assume his practice is to have personnel perform services they are unqualified to perform. I have been a patient at this office for approximately 10 years and initially was always impressed with Dr. Shaw and his dental hygienists. However, in recent years, I was always seen by different dentists rather than Dr. Shaw. It seems like he has other priorities at this point than his business. read more

Don't brother, to go there. Make an appointment, called few times to make sure my insurance covered. Then call me about a week before my appointment, saying I will have to pay co-pay.
