For years I've been a Pet Food Express customer at the location on Ignacio in Concord, CA and let me just say, a visit to this store is always a fabulous experience! It is unique to find a business these days that offers consistently high service from every staff member. The employees are kind, patient, engaging, knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, extraordinary individuals, and animal lovers to the heart! During Covid-19 they have set up their store to be curbside service, great feature for those of us wanting products, but also concerned about the health and safety of essential workers. So I ordered beds online and when I got there I decided they were just a bit too small. The gentleman who assisted me made several trips back to the bed area to bring me more options until we found the perfect bed for my newest foster dog. Once again great service!! One of the best pet stores I have been to!!!! Associates are so kind, friendly and knowledgeable!!! We have interacted with Brant and he was extremely helpful and kind. When I strolled in here wearing my KN95 mask, an employee immediately approached me, and he was wearing a single layer fabric mask (which, scientifically, do not work against Covid). He hands me a paper mask, and insists that I put the mask, that he's touching, on over my mask because mine has a "vent" and people need to be safe. Facepalm. Lisa is the reason I drive all the way to this store. The Customer Service is impeccable. She's extremely knowledgeable, Professional and Helpful. She goes out of her way to assist you beyond measures and it is truly appreciated especially when someone like myself had to find specific contents in the cat food at a specific percentage for my extremely ill cats that are now much better thanks to her assistance. She made a painful process very easy without even knowing the full details of my situation with my cats at home. I have gone to many other pet stores that are closer to our home and not one person has measured up to Lisa. Not even close. I went into the store close to closing in need of expert help and that's exactly what I got. We found a stray kitten 4-6wks old up a tree in the heat. It was 100+ degrees and neighbors said it was there all day with no Mama in sight. Well, up the tree my husband went and home this kitten came with us. That is was landed me in Pet food express! I was greeted by Emily and she stayed with me the whole time in the store. I lucked out and got someone who fosters kittens and knew so much as I have never had a cat so young before. I cannot rave about this store enough. All the employees are so helpful and go above and beyond. I was extremely grateful the extra care they took of me during covid. I was not going into stores and they allowed me to call in an order, back up my car, pop the trunk and they would load it and I never had to leave my car. They are always sure to tell me if my dogs don't like the food or treats that they will take them back after they try them. (they are then donated to shelters!) I was only 3 minutes late but they had closed on time according to their posted hours. This is a first-class store. I have been a customer for years and will continue to shop here forever. Not only do they have a great selection of all kinds of dog foods and supplies, but the staff there are absolutely the best. Two wonderful and very patient female employees went out of their way to help my wife and I fit a harness on our newly-adopted pooch who was very nervous around the other dogs. (Thank you, ladies!!) I am big on customer service and Jim C at this location always goes above and beyond. This dedicated employee could right a book on how to treat both 2 and 4 legged customers. We have a senior dog who is skittish that we bring into the store and he is always very friendly but smartly cautious when assisting us with our needs. He is very knowledgeable about products and when we have a question he is not 100% sure about ( rare) he is not afraid to ask for help from coworkers. On my last visit the item we needed was not in stock so we had to visit another pet food chain in the same parking lot The store was just as large as PFE but the service was nonexistent. I saw 2 employees sitting behind the counters and 1 employee stocking the shelfs. The cashier's had long lines so there was no way they were going to be able to help me search for my item and the person stocking never acknowledged my presence. I can really tell all the employees I have encountered at PFE care about the pets and jobs they do and only wish we felt the same vibe else ware. I will never know if the other place had my item and as it was not urgent I will check back with Jim C in a few days as advised and look forward to our next visit. read more

Friendly and very helpful staff! I love how they have a bath station for your dog. This is so convenient if you have a dog who doesn't like baths or if you have back problems. We brought our puppy in a few weeks ago and it was so easy especially because he hates bath time. Today I called around looking for a very specific type of dog food. This store said they had it in stock! I was excited! I drove out of my way to get the food. When I arrived, they did not have what I was looking for. I was a bit tired and a bit upset. This store's strongest aspect is the staff. They're friendly and helpful. I take my dogs here about once a month for a bath, and the staff always have towels ready and are friendly. Regarding the baths, the store has a self-service bath area with four tubs. For $15 you get 25 minutes of warm water, three shampoo choices, and cool-air blow drying. It's much like a coin-op car wash for your dogs. It works well and, though steep, saves me having to clean dog fur out of my tub or mop my bathroom floor. Totally worth the money. read more

My bf & I brought our dog in today for a bath and some new goodies. We were originally searching for a harness ( we have trouble walking him, as he gets excited and pulls ) but we met Cassidy and she suggested the "Gentle Leader". Went to Pet Food Express in Clayton/Concord. Our 10 month-old Puppy needed an alternative to the plastic cone our vet provided. She has a skin rash on her lower belly. Zack greeted me with a smile and asked if I needed assistance. He described an item called the "(Dog) Recovery Suit" (basically doggie onsie spandex :) This alternative is working perfectly. I needed a few more items and Zack happily took me around the store to pick up my other items. He also told me about their "buy 3 snacks get the 4th free" deal . I went in on a Saturday afternoon at my whits end with my baby boy and contemplating putting him down. We lost a dog at the end of April and he just went downhill very fast. I encountered two wonderful employees that went over the many supplements that could be used for grief and cognitive issues. I left with CBD, melatonin, and a vitamin for the brain and nervous system. From our conversations i also learned that dogs can grieve very deeply; the story of one of the employee's mothers dog gave me hope. After a week and a half my baby boy seems more like himself. He actually was running around today, is responsive, and knows his name. He is an almost 16 year old yorkie so I know this was not to be a cure all; but I have my little man back. I wish I remembered the two women's names but I was just so distraught. The staff at this store have always been super friendly and extremely helpful. They are always knowledgeable and have given us great advice on many aspects of our dog's care and feeding. Most recently, they were out of the brand of food we've fed our dogs their whole life due to a recall. The sales person knew what other brand had the same ingredients, read them to us, gave us a free can of pumpkin to help with the transition (I had no idea) and told us to return it all if our dogs didn't tolerate their new food and we'd try something else. Came here today looking for supplies for a pair of new cats my wife and I rescued. Luckily we were helped by, I believe his name was Brandt, I'm so sorry I cant remember. Older gentleman who knew so much about cats. He gave us a wealth of knowledge and information. It was fantastic. I will try to go back to visit to correct his name if it is incorrect. We had trouble having one of the kittens eat any treats. He recommended us with 2 items and they were a hit! We also picked up other items and the kittens loved it! I am so glad that they hired knowledgeable employees. Because of this, I told a bunch of people to check them out and I highly recommend this place. We ended up leaving with 2 carts full of stuff but well worth it. We have enough supplies for the little guys for a while. Accessories, food, litter, the whole lot. Bags, carriers you name it. Went there this past Saturday. What a fantastic group of workers! My dog was having a problem with her foot, and the team there helped in a number of ways: speculating a diagnosis, suggesting a treatment, letting us try on shoes and socks for doggies. I would like to give a shout-out to two employees at this store - Samantha and Yaz. Samantha recommended food for my cat who has inflamatory bowel disease and it has worked incredibly well with no more vomiting. I am on the third package of frozen food that she recommended. My other new helper was Yaz today, who recommended a dish specifically made for cats and why it was good. How did I know that I had been using a dish made more for dogs all these years. She explained how a flat dish is more conducive for cats whiskers when I told her how my cat always drinks when I tip the "dog bowl" on its side. Both of these young ladies have been wonderful and were very friendly and helpful in making suggestions to me. Kudos to them. read more
