first off i highly recommend this dr jeff. his attitude and straight forward approach and listening to us at initial visit is what every fur baby parent needs. confidence in their vet especially a new vet office at that. I also was told ahead that their isn't a lot of workers so it was told me in advanced. I understood to mean not a lot of overhead that is why costs are cheaper here. As for me , it makes all the difference for me having my puppy's as my life line to be comfortable with a new Vet clinic and dr. my dogs weren't anxious at all at the initial visit. that tells me a lot! was told he needed a dental what that meant to me was teeth needed to be pulled not specified the details only that labs would be done and then i'd be contacted and to proceed from there... i had to call them was told was infection and yes teeth and ok for surgery . nothing abt a cleaning at that point but apparently that was a issue with insurance little issues with payment later on. Once I found out my ins wasn't going to pay needed records from elsewhere , I provided ins co and vet clinic... with records i was then sent a email stating how much ins co was to pay! we proceeded with scheduling surgery for my pups dental! after surgery we submitted claim to ins for the thousand dollars to pay clinic directly and they denied! I then had to dispute and for that they needed detailed surgery notes from vet clinic. with the help of staff and dr we got them the notes etc... at that point ins as only willing to pay 400$ total disappointment End result was we paid our deductible to clinic after ins was able to pay the remainder of what ins refused and the dr gave a discount . What matters most is my puppy is home with me and recovering . I suffer with anxiety and my dogs r elder years now only stress caused was that my insurance wasn't being cooperative after having puppy insurance since they were born. i carry two insurance policy's for them and either wanted to pay a dime! Thanks to Ashley dr jeff and andrew working with one insurance for details of surgery i at least for ins to pay a tiny amount.... in reality i have proof they sent me a hard copy stating they were paying $1,000 and did not! after we paid our deductible ... this clinic in my opinion handled it the best they could and offered me a discount thank goodness. I'm incredibly grateful for the communication i received for them helping me in this case it was giving me a clearer picture of what not to buy pet insurance for going forward having elder puppy's .... we purchase as emergency's as babies and expect they will cover as they age not realizing there is stipulations for elder dogs i'm better off saving a savings for my dogs from the start. lesson learned. thanks again to the staff at pet maintenance for the extra help with my pet insurance it was appreciated ! I should not have had to go thru what i went thru with insurance companies for them to both deny me having records and all! i recommended his facility just make sure to have good communication always not just with this business but in life! that's the only way any thing will ever get done and fairly. kindest regards and thanks to dr and staff . Sold to new owners, all new vets. Took our dog for blood work and check up a few times after she was acting sick. They didn't take her temperature or listen to her heart. Our dog passed away in a lot of pain 2 days later. Its been over a week and no update from the vet. Called to let the office know, no compassion or kind words just marked she passed away. The vets are good and the price is very affordable but the lower price trade off is that you get less time with the vets and things can feel a bit rushed. That said, I found everyone to be compassionate, caring and professional and would definitely return if my cat needed another dental. read more

I brought my mom's dog in for an exam. After the appointment, I went to the front desk to speak with the receptionist, who I believe was named Andrew. I asked if I could get flea medication for the dog and requested that the bill be sent directly to the dog's owner. I also asked if I could get flea medication for another dog in the same household, who has a different owner. Andrew refused to let me leave because there was an outstanding balance on the other dog's account. I explained several times that the dogs are not mine and asked that the invoices be sent to their respective owners. At no point did anyone in the office previously inform me of any outstanding balances or send reminders for payment. I have brought several dogs--around six--into this office in the past, and there has never been an issue. In every previous visit, invoices were sent directly to the owners and were paid without any problems. I have even done this with my own dogs, and the process was always handled smoothly. During this interaction, I repeatedly asked if I could speak to a manager. Andrew appeared unwilling to get one and responded with comments like, "What do you want me to do?" His demeanor and lack of customer service were very frustrating, and it gave the impression that he did not want to help resolve the situation. I was especially upset because I was simply trying to leave after the appointment. I have been coming to this office for a long time, and it is disappointing to see the level of service decline with the newer staff. The previous staff members were always friendly, professional, and efficient, and I never had any issues with them. The office already has the owners' contact information on file--including their names, phone numbers, emails, and addresses--so they are fully capable of sending invoices or reminders for any outstanding balances. If a bill was unpaid, there should have been a protocol for notifying the owner directly. It was later suggested by the manager that it was my responsibility to pay the bill, which is incorrect since the dogs are not mine and the owners' information is already on file for billing and communication. read more

First and foremost I want to express how upset I'm with my visit here. I really hope the Doctor cares, because the manager on duty made it very clear from inside the room that she was very busy and that they could give me her email. "Ashley Technician" came out to give me my pet and the email. Upon arrival I got there at 8:00am parked, and knocked at 8:06am and then again at 8:15am; As I was walking to the other door I was encountered by a girl who said if "I didn't know how to read the sign, and that they opened at 8:30am" she also said: I don't have any staff rite now!!!! And so I proceeded to tell her that I had an appointment at 8:15am and that's the time I was told to be there. She says " will give me a few mins and shuts the door" I was in seriouse disbelief, thankfully the girl who came out for Raya was very nice and said the Manager would be there by noon and I clearly told the young lady I didn't want the other girl near my pet. I came back by 12:32 and asked to speak to the manager in which by then "Ashley Techinician" proceeded to give me the email and the instructions for the care of my pet. Ashley kept calling my pet a she and I corrected her two times in which she clearly didn't care because she called him a she one last time! I was shooked!!! She also mentions to give them call if theres anything looking bad or infected. If the manager couldn't even come out, what do I really expect from a call if anything were to happen!!! Also, as I look on their website the employee who was very unprofessional to me I believe her name is "Gina." I actually love pet maintenance and repair. They are friendly, helpful and affordable. The problem is you can't get an appointment with them. I called to make an appointment for my dog. An existing patient and the first appointment is over 3 weeks away. And now they only do exams Monday and Wednesday. This is ridiculous. I might have to find a new vet. Very sad read more

Just had our first exam with Dr. Bartlett. I took in a stray this week and needed an exam, vaccines a heartworm test and a overall exam and to check his ears. They were amazing, let me restrain my dog, since he was a stray I didn't want anyone getting bit by him(I'm a retired vet nurse). They gave me an estimate for his neuter which is SO reasonable and also they won't continue to see your pet unless it is spayed or neutered which I think is amazing given the pet over population problem!! They aren't pushy or super expensive they do what you want and can afford. Doc was very knowledgeable and friendly, tech was great and the front end staff even though really busy were so nice! Jeff Fankhauser uses faulty FIV/ FELV tests on cats and tells people to euthanize their cats based on these SNAP in house tests that have a false positive rate of up to 76% of the time! He also tells people that there is no cure for FELV, when in fact there are treatments out there such as RetroMad1. If I had listened to him my three cats would be dead right now, but instead I did my own research, used herbal treatments, retested my cats with more accurate testing, went to a different vet and now 9 months later my cats are happy and healthy and play like kittens. In August 2024, we took our three sibling cats to PMR and were seen by Dr. Shira. It was a very long wait but she was very kind and took the time to gently look in our scared cats' mouths and was patient with them. Our cats were diagnosed with stomatitis and we were told that they needed full mouth extractions. Dr. Shira suggested that we wait to get FIV/ FELV tests until we checked to see if we wanted to get pet insurance for them. She recommended that the extractions be done by Dr. Jeff. I received a call from Dr. Jeff where he told me he had a different view than Dr. Shira since he was a "shelter vet" and he tried to convince me to euthanize my cats. He also said that their bloodwork was "weird" and that he didn't understand it. After we had dropped our cats off for their surgeries, he called me to say that he really recommended doing the FIV/ FELV tests while the cats were under anesthesia because it would be easy to do. I consented to that and then he called to tell us that one of our male cats tested positive for FELV and that he recommended to immediately euthanize him. He also wanted to euthanize our other two cats without even testing them. I said that the others needed to be tested, he then called back later telling us that he and his team were unable to test our other cats because they were too "feisty" and he still wanted to euthanize them all saying that their stomatitis was too bad to be cured. Again Dr. Jeff talked about how he "was a shelter vet" and somehow that justified deciding to kill all three of our cats right then and there without us or our children being able to say goodbye to them or giving us time to think about it. We were told that Dr. Jeff was upset because our first cat's teeth extractions had already been done and it was a shame because we would have to pay for it even though Dr. Jeff was recommending now to euthanize him. We said that we just wanted our cats back. When we picked them up, our first cat who had been under anesthesia was jostled and handed over roughly to us. We were not given any aftercare instructions or follow up phone calls checking on him. Upon picking him up, we were told that actually, only half of the extractions had been done. (We didn't even know which teeth had been extracted.) This was hard news because we had a grant from Birchbark, a non profit organization, to pay for half of the surgeries for two of our cats and those grants can only be used once for one procedure. We gave our three siblings with stomatitis herbal supplements, medicine and vitamins and we had them retested 6 weeks later. Upon retesting they were negative for FIV/ FELV. Our new vet informed us that the SNAP in house tests are a preliminary screening and if positive require further testing to confirm disease. They are not accurate enough to make life and death decisions. Dr. Jeff told us that we would be coming back in 1-2 months to have our cats euthanized after his initial diagnosis because their health would be so bad, but with research and care on our part and the support of a new vet, now 9 months later they are still recovered and happy and healthy. Their stomatitis cleared up completely after having their teeth removed and they are still negative for FELV. The receptionists were very disorganized. It took me 5 or more tries to get copies of my cats' medical records. We asked that PMR talk to Birchbark on our behalf to see if we could get further funding to complete our cats' partial surgery since it was stopped due to a false positive on a faulty test. We were also told at that point that the funding had been used for our other cat as well for a surgery that didn't happen and that we had no more funding left with Birchbark. We told PMR that that was not right and they needed to refund money for our second cat that didn't even receive a surgery. It turned out that that was a mistake that the receptionists made about the funding with our second cat, however, it resulted in Dr. Jeff calling the wonderful woman at Birchbark and he yelled at her and her supervisor because he thought it was Birchbark asking for a refund and apparently he yelled about how he was a "shelter vet" on the phone. I couldn't believe how unprofessional and rude he was to the Birchbark employees. I feel so sorry for all of the pets and shelter animals that he has put to death over the years based on faulty SNAP tests. read more

Dr. Jeff is very compassionate and caring. I highly recommend him as a vet. BUT the staff he has right now is horrible. There was a problem with the staff not answering the phone and not returning calls. That issue seems to be fixed; however, staff has an uncaring with a very rude attitude. They seem to be bothered by doing their job. I'm not going to go into the entire ordeal, but I will say I was very calm, I was not rude about anything, But, after 3 instances with the girls at the front desk the 4th one, I had enough. I had called asking about a refill. My bottle has 10 refills on it, I was to give the medication for two weeks. Not sure why there are 10 refills? I could tell there wasn't enough for the remaining week. So I called, told them I thought I only had enough for one more dose and asked about a refill. I was told when I was ready to refill to just come in and they would refill for me. I told her I would come in the next day. She said ok and hung up. I showed up the following day, I said hello, I called yesterday about a refill and was told it was ok to come in for it. I was rudely told that I cannot just come in for a refill. I need the Drs. approval. She said she would put in for the refill and if it was approved, she would call me in a day or two. Ok, but I don't have enough, and I was told I could come in today. Look, I'm only human, I didn't cuss or yell or anything, but I was given misinformation on the phone and to me the girls should know the Protocall and let the client know, because she should know right? And this was the 4th issue of rudeness. I also don't trust how my dog was treated when she stayed from 9AM until 2:30PM for 2 xrays and a blood panel. I understand they were busy. But when we got home my dog went for the water bowl right away and drank quite a bit. I think they left her in a crate all that time without water. Honestly if staff is annoyed by people coming in, asking questions, no concern with the proper amount of mess needed. I wonder how the pets are treated when out of our eyesite? There is a review here left recently about her trouble trying to get her pets heart medicine. She has also been waiting 2 months trying to get a call back on test results. I've been to many vets over the past few years, (unfortunately) all over the Monterey Peninsula (Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove). I was referred to this place by the SNIP Bus. I was extremely skeptical of it before visiting simply because it was "a low-cost clinic" in Salinas. However, after my first visit, I was so happy with the experience that I decided to make them my primary vet even though it is a 30-40 min drive from where I live. I walked in with my foster kitten, with the thought that I may have to euthanize. They were so nice and fit us in. Unfortunately I did have to let her go but they were so helpful and compassionate. Dr. Jeff explained what treatment and prognosis looked like and took his time to allow me to think about it and make the best decision. Everyone, including other people waiting, were so compassionate. I highly recommend. But I don't because I don't want it to get too busy! Also, please be nice to the vet staff!
