Our other kitty loves to watch the birds outside and often tries to slip out the front door to join them if I'm not super careful. Rena has been working with our dog for around a year now, and we are extremely happy we found Pet Mama. We have a rescue dog who is very nervous around strangers and takes a while to warm up. Rena has been pet sitting for decades, so she must usually be good at it - to her credit, she was sweet and calm with our dogs...but the experience my wife and I had did not live up to our expectations of good animal care. We hired Rena to look after our two small senior dogs (for a week), one of which is blind in one eye and needs a little extra help getting around. We asked that they be crated when she wasn't there, but saw on our house camera one morning that one of the dogs wasn't in the crate when Rena left for the morning. We tried reaching her to find out what was happening, but we got no response. Several hours later she responded, asking where the dog would hide. She had left the house without having seen one of the dogs at all that morning. She knew she was in our guest studio, because she had seen her there the night before, but didn't see her in the morning, and felt it was OK to leave the house and go about her day. To my wife and I, making sure the dog is accounted for is basic dog sitting protocol. Rena felt the dog was safe because she knew she was in that specific room, but assuming our half-blind 12 year old dog was safe without having laid eyes on her, feeding her, or taking her out to pee in the morning is just irresponsible. Perhaps such logic works with cats, but our dog could have had a stroke, could have been stuck somewhere - and at the very least, a pet sitter should not leave the premises if the animals aren't accounted for. Period. Thankfully, our dog is safe (our friend rushed over to find her)- but she was between a massive bookshelf and the wall, and must have been there at least all morning, perhaps throughout the night, as well. Rena is great. We started using her this year when our usual pet sitter was in the hospital and our dogs took to Rena (Pet Mama) very well. We have a German Shepherd and Retriever who seem very calm and well taken care of upon our return from long work days or when we returned from our trip this summer. She also agreed to dog sit and sleep over so our dogs wouldn't be alone during our trip. Our retriever needs eye drops every morning for life or else they get very dry or infected, so when we returned and saw her eyes were as healthy as can be we were very happy about that.
