Plucky Puppy has been a lifesaver for me and my partner. Recently, we spontaneously adopted two…read morelabradoodle sisters from the same litter. After the fact, we got warned to spend a lot of time socializing them and training them separately if we didn't want them to develop a littermate syndrome. So, I loaded up on puppy socials, booking every social I could get my hands on at Wonder Puppy and Plucky Puppy. I booked over 35 socials for both of them to attend separately between the ages of 8 and 20 weeks. We also signed up for Plucky Puppy's Kinderpuppy class, and have hired the owner Katrin to board and train each puppy separately in her house one day a week per puppy for a couple of months. This review is for all 3 services we use: 1) Puppy Socials, 2) Private Training with Katrin and 3) Kinderpuppy School. I would rate Puppy Socials as 10/10, the private training with Katrin as 10/10 and the School as 8/10. Below is a breakdown of each service. Puppy Socials (10/10): I like them better than the other socials we go to because they involve the owners and teach the owners how to recognize and attune to the behavior and needs of their dog and understand the body language of all dogs involved in the activity. I really like the clear instructions for the owners and the constant narration the trainers are doing with the dogs as the dogs play. Other companies' socials have the owners step outside and look through a window, which is far less engaged and informative. Private Training with Katrin (10/10): I see a huge difference in each dog at the end of their training day with Katrin. They've learned so much we wouldn't have been able to teach them because 1) we're first time puppy owners and 2) we have two of them, which makes it extra challenging to train each if you don't know what they're doing. Katrin also spent time training our family with the two dogs present and working on separating the dogs into different room crates (we have them in separate crates but same room at home for the time being - working towards separating their crates into different rooms). Honestly, if our dogs keep up the trend of being good, sweet and trained dogs, it will all be because of Katrin. She's a life-saver. We are constantly getting compliments on how good our dogs are. Katrin also sends us multiple videos of each day's training and I love how she spends time socializing the dogs to different environments. Her kids love being part of the dog training, so we're getting a whole family involved in their care, which is amazing! Kinderpuppy School (8/10): Great training for dog parents and understanding how to communicate with your puppy and really attune to their needs, body language and emotions. Very hands on and interactive. The only reason I dinged the score a bit is that in the first few classes our school trainer waits for the late comers to arrive before starting class, which wastes valuable puppy attention span and fills up their belly with treats while they wait. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and attentive and I've already given them the feedback about starting on time and not waiting for people who are late, so I am hopeful this issue will be fixed going forward.

Buttons has his fair share of issues (don't we all?) but her faith in his potential really helps me when it's an extra borky day. My dog that I adopted as a 2yo came with significant veterinary related fear aggression. My primary…read morevet referred me to them bc they felt uncomfortable with how to manage his sedation for appointments. I took him to the costly initial appointment that consisted of the vet and another person (tech?) sitting in chairs across the room staring and throwing snacks at my dog onto the floor. They proceeded to dissect everything I did with my dog in our day to day lives and shame me for it. And to be clear, at this point, he was walking nicely on a leash with only occasional reactivity to other dogs and trash trucks, he was playing and interacting well with other dogs his size and activity level, he was able to be off leash when we would camp and swim. All of his needs were met, he was becoming a wonderful, well adjusted dog. I was simply just looking for appropriate sedation so he could have stress free vet visits. Instead, I was told everything else I was doing was wrong, that I should put a head collar on him even though I specifically told them he doesn't tolerate it (not all dogs do), and then they suggested I just don't walk him for a few wks. That letting him be in a house and only to a small backyard would help fix a problem that wasn't a problem. Oh yeah and then they said I needed to do their expensive classes which were at this point virtual only. In hindsight, I should have trusted my instincts and found a different primary clinic. If you have a dog that struggles with vet visits, it's not your fault. Some places are very clearly better at handling dogs who have fear and anxiety. And some places are much better about not causing it in the first place. Find a fear free clinic, or one that emphasizes that care. Because once I did that, the whole experience was better. Don't spend $500 or however much the initial visit is to be told you're doing everything wrong and failing at being a pet parent.

I am currently working with Synergy with one of my rescue dogs and I have a an appointment to begin…read moreworking with my other rescue. Our first appointment with Dr. Valli was helpful but it was more of a diagnosis and not steps I can take at home to support and improve my dog's behavior. I figured that would come after tests and medication trials were completed. However, I was sent an email of next steps, including an additional $660 for 6 x 30 minute online training sessions. This is over $1000 not including the $350 for blood work and imaging. To be honest, I feel embarrassed because I could barely pay the $450 consultation fee and now I'm looking at my rescue puppy thinking about what a bad pet parent I am because our funds are maxed out. I do think that Synergy offers much needed services and I understand that it costs a lot to offer those services. My suggestion to Synergy is that you add a question(s) to your intake survey like: 1. Are you committed to purchasing training sessions if they are recommended after your consultation? If a client answers "no" then it would be nice to tailor their consultation report with next steps they can do on their own and/or with their vet. Or, clarify that the consultation is only one piece of program and that the $450 is just the initial cost and to expect up to $300-$1000 additional costs for training. If people can't afford more than the $450 initially is there a point to even doing the consultation? Can you clarify how the consultation will benefit those who do not want to proceed with training through Synergy? If I would have known that the realistic cost would be around $1000 I may have tried something else that was within my budget range. Again, I haven't finished the process so maybe there's more to be seen and I will soon be praising Synergy for only charging me $450 for the best treatment plan and advice on how to work with my dog on her behavior issues.
