Just a helpful hint...when a customer walks into the store and sees two clerks just talking at the register....I thought to was OK to approach them and ask a question. they never acknowledged me standing there...then I said, do you carry Royal Canin? Both looked at me and one replied "no". I said oh, could you possibly know where I could get that product? another "no". both looked miserable to be there. WOW I usually have good service, but these two "girls" were so off-putting. When dealing with the public they should make an attempt to be NICE. I love Pet Pals. Frequent the place often, spend a lot of money there for my cats over the last 10 years. Always had good things to say. But this instance was really unforgivable and completely unacceptable. One of the male cashiers was excruciatingly rude to the point of hostility. I was just getting into line, with two other people infront of me when this chashier (who was eating lunch at the cashier counter) asked a bit heatedly "Do you want to check out". I said that I think the other woman was in front of me and he responded withsomething like "do you want to check out or not" , his voice very sarcastic and body language aggressive. Again I said/ explained that I just wanted to be sure that the other woman was being helped. He then said in what seemed to be a loud and pointed voice "do you want me to check you out or do you want somebody else?" I told him someone else would be better and moved on to another teller. OK this doesnt sound so bad, but it really was. ANd it got much worse, eventually the cashier telling me to "get out". I tried to find a way to contact the owner, because it got even worse, so I am hoping that they look at these reviews and tell me how to get in touch with them. read more

Why I waste my money at Petco or Petsmart, I have NO IDEA! Pet Pals is local and not "big box." Even with the discount coupons from the other two, I still get a better price at Pet Pals every time. I like the warehouse feel and the friendly staff are so helpful. I also appreciate the fact that they regularly stock boxed cases of canned cat food since I usually buy 48 cans of the Wellness 5.5oz cans (24 chicken & 24 turkey) at a time and it sure is easier to transport home than individual cans. Pet Pals also has a great selection of pet carriers, beds, crates, toys, homeopathic remedies, etc., as well as treats for all adorable pet children. You can bring your well-behaved pet child into the store too. Although I could never take my 3 kitty girls because they'd sneak things into my shopping cart behind my back and then embarrass me by laughing hysterically when I got to the checkout stand. They have most everything I ever need for my puppy including a low cost vaccination clinic every Saturday morning from 9:30am-12noon (I am pretty sure on that). Nice people, right on Soquel Drive near Sweets in the Nude furniture store. In no particular order: Dog stuff, cat stuff, car seats and barriers for dogs, dog strollers!, dog treats, tons of pet food, I think they have an "adopt a rabbit" deal in there (not sure on the details, as in....weekends only?).....reptile supplies, flea treatments for dogs/cats, they have the cool citronella anti-bark collars for dogs (they bark, a mist of citronella sprays out, they do not like it, they stop barking), most everything for fish, toys.....stuff for mice and hamsters. PROS: - High end brands: They carry a lot of them - Unbelievably fast. Placed late morning, the order was processed and shipped the same day. With UPS Ground it got here in 2 days; got several email confirmations when order was processed, and again when it shipped - CHEAP! Even with the 9% CA sales tax, it wound up being cheaper than most other out of state sellers who don't charge sales tax (not to mention it created less of a carbon footprint from not having to travel as far) - Items arrived in perfect shape. This morning, I made a horrendous discovery while picking up my dog's poop. She has tapeworms. EW. Although she's probably had them for awhile, I found myself completely unwilling to do ANYTHING--even take her for a walk--before those tapeworms were treated. I called Pet Emporium and Pet Club for their prices on Tapeworm Tabs and found that Pet Pals is a full $15 cheaper. Wow. So I headed over to Pet Pals. WOW, that place is HUGE! They have so much stuff, it's almost overwhelming. It's like the Costco of pet supplies, except you don't have to buy in bulk. I was definitely impressed with Pet Pals, but I'm knocking off a star because their staff doesn't seem to be very knowledgeable...my favorite pet store (they don't have any locations in Santa Cruz) can recommend food, medicine, etc. They're more than salespeople, and I guess I've been spoiled. read more
