Connie the dog groomer is a cut above. I have 2 Doodles that can be difficult to groom. I have always taken them to Pet Smart at while satisfied with the outcomes, my dog was usually there for 5-7 hours and the cost with tip was north of 150-175. I was referred to Connie by a friend at the Pet Supermarket on Michigan Ave, and I could not be happier. First, Connie texts and is very responsive. Secondly, there aren't 8 dog tables with 8 other dogs being groomed when I bring my dog in. It is a calm clean and inviting setting that makes the hand off relaxing and not over stimulating for the dog. She took just over 2 hours for a full groom- 5 hours less than Petsmart. And above all else my dog was absolutely beautiful and appeared to be very relaxed and comfortable during the groom. The price was 75.00 making it a super value for such a high quality groom. Connie is all around a master in her profession, is very friendly and knowledgeable and provides an exceptional experience for dog and owner and at an exceptional price. Do a water test at Pet Supermarket before buying fish. I barely go to Pet Supermarket due to trust issues, So I decided to go last Saturday. I bought a pleco Saturday and on Monday found it dead. So I went back with the fish to exchange it and they gave me another one. I gave them my water so they could to water test and everything was good. This afternoon I was looking at my tank just found the new pleco dead. I gave up on Pet Supermarket and flushed the dead pleco. It would cost me more money due to distance and gas. I have only 5 platys, and a few neons in a 40 gallons tank. o ammonia o nitrite and about 40 ppm nitrate. I will never go back to buy fish. read more

The store itself is very open, meaning there is a lot of unused space. They have your usual array of cat and dog supplies, a few fish, birds, a rabbit and ferrets. Love me some ferrets. But I digress. They have a good variety of pet supplies, and their prices are good. They have a walk in community vet that comes there every other week for prevenative care, like vaccinations. Customer service recieves a big F! The store was empty when we entered. No one interacted with us while we were shopping, and when I went to check out I said good morning to Ms. Dianne in my most sincere and upbeat manner. What I got in return was crickets. In fact, she looked away from me and started talking to her coworker about her register problems, and how she needed to use his. Still talking to him, she slowly started making her way to the other register. I asked her if I should move to the other register, and again she didn't answer me. Her coworker was very nice and acknowledged, while moving my bag of dog food for me. He then left to tend to another customer while Ms. Diane checked us out, still not saying anthing directly to me, and barely looking at me. Either she couldn't hear me, or she was totally dismissive. Pet Supermarket on Michigan charged my credit card three times for a single purchase. I thought they rectified it, but when I went through my credit card transaction history months later, I discovered their error. They charged me more than $200 for a single purchase of $71. When I called their HQ about it, they did the research & came to the same conclusion as me: that they charged me three times. They then told me to contact my bank about it. I will never step foot in a Pet Supermarket again. And I will tell all my friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, acquaintances, exactly why: because an employee there deliberately scammed me & the HQ did nothing to fix it. I was spending about $100 a month there. They lost thousands of future purchases from me. They totally deserve to go out of business. read more

For as long as I've been a dog mom, Pet Supermarket has been my go-to pet store of choice, no matter where I've lived. I love this location off Michigan, mostly due to the extremely friendly & helpful staff. Each time I walk in, I'm greeted warmly and I know help is around if I need it. They have exactly what I need most of the time, and you can always call ahead to see if they have certain things in stock. I mostly come here to use the Pet Spa in the back - all of the groomers are so friendly! They're happy to take walk-ins for nail clippings. I also like their membership program where you can receive every 10th bag of dog food for free & take advantage of discounts. I've only ever gone to this store to get fish for my tank. This last time, the employee who helped us with the fish was very friendly and knowledgeable! We were inquiring about some new aquatic friends who we hadn't researched before, and he was engaging and told us what he knew and was honest when he didn't know an answer to our question. Above average choice for catty patties. My vet told me to go there because they have an exclusive deal to sell fuzzy mouse toys for my best buddy, Acer da Cat! I went there and explained the message from my vet. Judy (employee) looked at me like I was crazy. She led me to the cat toy section. Came here the other night when I needed some dog food for Jackson and it was getting close to closing time. It's in a kinda in a rinky dink plaza so I thought it wouldn't be a nice store but I was pleasantly surprised. Thy had the dog food I was looking for (Target didn't have it) and checkout was easy. I usually go to the location on Aloma. Have been to this location a few times since its close to work and when I need to use a coupon that's about to expire. The location is a good one and parking is plentiful. Layout is a little different from the store I go to but , for the most part, things are easy to find. I noticed on my last trip here, our brand of dog food was low in supply. Either this is a much busier store or they don't order enough for inventory. Our store is always fully stocked. If you are driving out of your way, probably a good idea to call beforehand to make sure your brand food and size is available. Also, while its nice to get a greeting, I have never been offered assistance like my regular location. This place is great when looking for quality dog food. We have been feeding our dachshund EVOO and Into The Wild for a few years now and could only find it at certain dog boutiques up north. They have a large selection of grain-free food. The selection of treats and toys is huge, much larger than their Petco/PetSmart competitors. Prices are what you'd expect. I did find a huge deal on knuckle bones (giant one that had all the loose junk shaved off for $5) and my pup has thought he's the MAN ever since he got it. The store is fine. It's the grooming department that has issues. Went today to get my dogs nails cut and they are closed at 4:00. No exaggeration...this is the 6th time this has happened to me, yet they advertise till 5:00. Went one day and was told they were leaving in 5 minutes and couldn't do it. I said, ok, let me make an appointment for tomorrow. She opened the book, I picked a blank time slot, and was told....well, I don't know if she will be here then. This is the only place I've found locally that carries the BLUE Buffalo brand of cat food. I'm not picky, but my cat is! We brought our boy here to this location for nail trimming and grinding as well as to shop a little. The staff was amazing with our boy. Not only did they do a great job with his nails but they assisted us with all our needs and left us laughing. We will definitely come back to this location for future nail trimming as many times we have found that groomers working at a pet shop or market do not have the right experience for trimming and grinding of the nails of a large breed dog. We found that Mary had extensive experience working with large breed dogs and our boy was so happy in her care. He is a great dog all around but is skeptical in the care of others. I brought my rescue dog, an American Eskimo in once before to the Michigan Street location and was very pleased. She is a small lap dog weighing 27 pounds. The cost the first time was $45.00 for the grooming and an extra $15.00 because the groomer Mary was by herself and needed someone from the store to assist her. When we returned this past weekend I was pleasantly surprised that Mary had an assistant and expected my cost to be around $45.00 so I made the mistake of tipping her $20.00 cash up front to make her pretty and when they brought her out I was sort of speechless. The head was not done well, was choppy and not blended into her body. I was then handed a bill for $70.00 (remember my $20.00 tip) bringing her hair cut to $90.00! I called to ask why and was told that they had a "new pricing structure". Priced me right to a different groomer. The staff are super nice and you feel bad giving a negative review but talk about price gouging. Very sad to see a place you really liked price themselves out of business. read more

I scheduled my dog here for a grooming a week in advance for a Monday morning appointment. When I arrived Monday morning with my dog the assistant manager told me the grooming salon is closed today. Why would a large company like Pet Supermarket schedule appointments for dog grooming and have the pet salon closed. I drove over 20 miles round trip for nothing. The groomer told me she took the day off because it was her birthday and called me to cancel the appointment and left a message on what she thought was my cell number. No message found. One manager said I could have a free groom and another manager said that was not possible. Stay away this place is very unprofessional and talks in circles. read more

This review is about the crickets- this place is a ripoff!! First they charge 1.50 a dozen, which is 1.5x what they charge anywhere else (including the ace hardware down the street), and they are soooo stingy!! They count every single cricket as if they are gold. I bought 2 dozen, and sat there while the girl counted each cricket for a solid 2 minutes. This is a great store to purchase all you pet supply needs! We recently 'adopted' a ferrel cat that we tried to tame. We found him outside, brought him in and tried to make him comfortable. We bought a large cat 'tree' from PetSupermarket and after the cat decided he wasn't going to be an indoor cat, took the tree back to the store. They took it back without a single issue. The weekend before Halloween, my dog Taylor Swift had a date with the groomer to get trimmed up and colored before we went to a friend's party. But it turned out that my groomer's resident color expert was out of town for the weekend, and with the party that night, and a couple's costume with my dog in jeopardy, I had to think on my toes. I stopped by a few pet stores before finally walking into this location. The staff was very helpful in pointing out the airbrush temporary dyes and similar ideas for coloring bae. But then it was mentioned that since it was morning, perhaps the groomer in the back of the store might be able to assist me with my color conundrum. I spoke with Mary in their grooming department, and she was kind enough to get me a quick appointment for a coloring later that day.
