I prefer Petsmart, because they are usually cheaper and have more variety. But there isn't one for about 30 miles, so I come here occasionally. I generally love going to the Albany Oregon Petco, However the last few times I have been in there there has been an extremely rude, what seems to be manager there? Screaming at her employee's about a missed punched log, I felt sorry for the poor grooming staff.. Talk about a hostile work environment, I cannot see how that is acceptable management, or whatever it is. I can only imagine this is the manager because generally if an employee would talk to anyone like that that would be cause for termination. I am now going to be ordering my dog and cat food online and getting a curb side pick up, My 3 year old daughter should not have to see such verbal abuse and nasty speech when going to a store. It's almost like they're running this place with a child. Nothing is properly stocked, nothing is organized, and there's a absolute witch screaming at her fellow employee's and co workers. Will never give this place my business again. Very unfriendly clerks and uncaring staff in general. Waited for about an hour to see their vet to get heart-worm meds for my cats, only to be told I had to wait at the back of the line again because I wasn't "checked in." I sat in line just like everyone else and nobody came to check me in or even inform me that that was what I needed to do. When I explained my situation, they didn't even bat an eye. Went to Petco to buy fish with my sister and I went to go purchase it but apparently because i wasn't her mother the lady wouldn't sell me the fish. This is absolutely absurd all I wanted to do is buy my mom a fish for Christmas but I couldn't because Petco is ridiculous I would much rather give my money to another company because they don't deserve it. I try to buy local but it'll be a long time before I return to the Albany, OR Petco. Upon returning home from a camping trip on Sunday I discovered our cat's litter pan was missing. Yes, our cat goes camping with us. I knew the next day was going to be hectic so I ordered a new litter pan & litter on line for delivery the next day. When the order arrived there was no litter pan and the litter bag torn in multiple areas. The Door Dash driver just shrugged when I asked about the missing pan & the torn bag. After 20 minutes on the phone I was given a refund for the missing pan and a partial refund for my Rewards money. I took the torn bag to my local Petco and again told my story to the "manager" - she wore no name tag nor did she tell me her name. She too shrugged when I told her about the missing litter box stating "I guess they forgot it". A checker refunded my money for the torn litter bag on a gift card. I got a litter box and using the gift card paid for it. As I got to my car I discovered that I was not refunded the full amount for the litter and overcharged for the litter box. So back into the store, again, waited in a long line, again, to speak to the manager, again. At this point I'm fed up and beyond frustrated. My attempt to buy local has now cost me a couple hours of my time, 3/4 of my Rewards money (you an only get it refunded by calling Customer Service I'm told) and the $$ I was not refunded & then overcharged. I understand mistakes happen but this was over the top. At no time did anyone even apologize for even one error. Lesson learned ! Petco has lost this customer read more

Very large selection of products. Especially dog clothes. But prices are a little higher than PetSmart. I never get asked if I need help when I'm there. And none of the employees pay any attention to my puppy when I bring him in. No asking his name, no petting him, nothing. Petco kind of reminds me of the Walmart of pet supplies. I usually only deal with the fish department. They are always very helpful and help with any questions I have. Some of the other workers though walk around the place and pretend to not see you. That is apparent. If the customer service was better, this place would get higher stars. It can be really hit or miss. Some of the workers there are absolutely great though. read more

Took my dog 2 days ago to the groomers it's hard to find a place near me that isn't super over priced and just the basics that she needs. It's 35 dollars for her ears, nails, bath, anal gland squeezing, and the smelly spray that makes her smell good longer. They always do a nice job was kind of disappointed when I saw they they forgot to cut one of her nails so now one nail is long and the rest are short her nails are too thick and long for me to do them myself so now she has to wait with a overgrown nail until the next time she goes to the groomers read more

I go to this Petco as its pretty much the only pet store other then going all the way to corvalis that said I can't say many good things to be honest the selection is kinda bad unless you want pink dog sweaters then they got you covered they got hundreds of them but anything else you might be limited. Every time ive bought fish in this store they have died last time I bought 2 higher end gold fish and they were both dead with in 24 hours in a tank that my other gold fish lived 2 years in so I know its not my set up or tank. The staff are either trying to ignore you or all over you like a bad rash when you want help they are always busy but when you don't they will be all over you like at the registers im done in line I don't need anything else thanks!.. Please just check me out don't offer me every offer under the dam sun in a fake over friendly manner I just want to get going that said its always fun when your kinda short on cash getting just the items you need cause you live on a budget and they flat out guilt you in front of others to donate!..I donate when I can but do not ask me that in front of others thanks!... Anyways I asked if I could handle one I was then told "well they are not very friendly as we don't have the time to handle them" I was shocked and even more so when I watched what I was made to think was a manager use a small cardboard box to "scoop" up a hamster and even worse was she was apparently "training a new employee" on how the store was told by corporate to pick them up seriously?? the poor creature was frightened out of its mind and needless to say wasn't responding very well. I ended up taking one home out of sheer pity for her and she's now happy and has been coming around over time with you know actual human interaction and not having a box tossed on top of her head mutable times!..I Don't have a pet that requires grooming in a salon so I can't say 1st hand what that experience would be like but I have a feeling its not to much better.. Oh and far as contacting them? I enjoy this Petco. We adopted a (young)dog last year, and have come here many, many times - many dog supplies, toys, etc, we bought from here. The employees are friendly...every once in a while you get a "dud" cashier, but for the most part they seem very friendly, helpful, etc. When I do bring our dog in, they give her attention, treats, and do a very good job of looking the other way if she is not acting her best. :) I really have no complaints. I find I prefer this Petco over the PetSmart in Corvallis. read more

I dropped in to look at supplies for a particular pet and I was quite disappointed by the lack of service. I wasn't being helped and when I asked for help, They immediately gave off a quiet scoff as if they did not want to be bothered. It was quite offensive since it is their job to tend to a customer's needs. I also was unable to browse certain areas where mountains of stock blocked the shelves. The animals are lovely but they never live long. I have bought multiple birds from this place and yesterday one died and the day before another died. Both had seizures. I would say I am a very good care taker when it come to birds so I know its nothing I did and its not an illness. I know this because I have a third bird who I got from a breeder, he is just fine and he shared a cage with the others. I have had these birds for 3 years and they are supposed to live about 15-20 years. I feel like the emotional distraught cause from this is unfair and I feel cheated. DH and I were both impressed with the knowledgeable and friendly staff at this store. We needed comets, crickets, dog food and treats. We'd done some research on feeding frogs, so we knew our questions were answered accurately. The employee helping us with the crickets offered to bag up any number and size we wanted, and had suggestions about the color of comets (dark or gold) to try, based on other customers' experience. The price of the dog food was about what we had paid before, and we were pleased that we didn't have to go elsewhere it get it. The dog treats we like had been completely repackaged since our last purchase, to the point that we weren't sure they were from the same company. The cashier offered to check with the manager and found that they were, so we have a happy puppy. We love the store and will be back. read more

Petco sucks. My girlfriend and I went in to return something that was bought longer than 60 days ago. We had READ the return policy ON THE BACK OF THE RECEIPT and knew that we were only going to get store credit for our return. The cashier says there's nothing she can do about it because it's past 60 days so we point out the return policy on the receipt and she starts to read it back but doesn't read it correctly. We correct her and she says "Well I was told by my manager we can't do anything after the 60 days. I'll go talk to my her." She comes back and says "Yeah there's nothing I can do about it if I wanna keep my job." We request to talk with her manager ourselves. Her manager comes to the register and begins to tell us she can't return the item because it's outside the the 60 days. I show the FRAMED paper on the register that clearly states the return policy and before I can finish talking, she points the the part where it says "Before 60 days the item can be fully returned the way it was purchased". My girlfriend immediately point to the part where it says "With a receipt, after 60 days the item can be returned for store credit." The manager looks at us with embarrassment all over her face and says "all I can do is give it to you on a gift card..." how the hell you gonna be a manager of a store and not know your return policy? I'd give this place 0 stars if Yelp! allowed it. read more

I was excited to take my dog here when it first opened and she loved going here at first. I use to just take her in and get treats and toys then I decided I would try out they're grooming service. I ha them cut her nails and when they gave her back to me my poor baby was bleeding! I was very upset but didn't say anything thinking maybe it was just some new person and I didn't want to cause a scene. So I took her back again to get her anal glands done. It went well. I took her back one more time and the lady who was did my dogs nails last time was going to express my dogs glands. I though hmm it's not her nails soo... With much hesitation I gave her my baby and when I got her back my dog was terrified! I know I should have stopped going then and there but one day she stunk really bad and I needed a place where I didn't have to set up an appointment because she needed her glands expressed bad! So I took her to pet co and asked for an expression and a nail trim from a man behind the counter. I handed my dog over and a few minutes later I hear a loud crash. When I looked over I saw my dog had gotten away from the man and was whining and scratching at the door looking for me. When they handed her to me she stunk so bad! I'm guessing he got some of the stuff in her anal glands on her or didn't wash her behind. On top of everything she was bleeding from everyone of her nails!!!! I was furious! However once again I paid and got out. I am not one to blow up on people. Overall I think the grooming is terrible but as far as the actual store I like that I can but her a few toys and sweaters. Although I can't get over the terrible grooming experiences so I don't go back there. On a side note every time I've take my dog to just walk in the store with me after the last grooming she's been terrified, skittish, and watches everyone. The bottom line is they want money, not to care or advise you on your pet concerns unless it means they get to sell you some overpriced product.
