Once again I decided to give this place a shot and it was a terrible experience. I'll never come back here. They only had one person working, Roxana, and she was a complete jerk! I'm not sure why they had her running the place alone but she clearly is clueless as to doing returns and other simple cashier functions. I had the best experience at Petco thanks to Nicholas. I bought a bunny last minute and went in 10 minutes before closing. He helped me pick out a bunny cage and told me that he would match the price I found online. When we went to check out, he offered to give me a 50% discount on everything I was buying. I would like to give recognition to Stephanie, first time she helped me at the register my boyfriend and I didn't know what treat was appropriate for our new kitten so she gave us a recommendation (this mousse type treat) and our kitten loves it. Second time, we went to buy a new scrather tower but it was a little wobbly. And I didnt expect that she would go out of her way to find a screw driver and fix it up for us. It's those little things I really appreciated. And not just from her but I do remember this girl with glasses who gave me soo much information about my curiosity in buying a chinchilla. Even suggested to go check out a website to see more affordable ones that come along with discounted cages as well. Everybody in general here is such great help and know their stuff. I wish i could give this store zero stars. We came in to buy a new leash for our lab-pit, Molly, who we had just rescued from death row. We also brought in our lab-rott, Bo, who is amazing overall but tends to be a bit leash aggressive in the presence of unaltered male dogs and our five-year-old niece. Our new pup wouldn't walk in so we separated while my girlfriend went to get a cart to put her in. My niece and i had Bo. As we walked in we saw an employee with a dog. Bo began to cry so i immediately steered him off to the left side of the store. About two mins later, we encountered the same dog while looking at fish. This time Bo barked and the employee.reinforced her dog with a treat for not barking. Then we walked over to the leashes. The employee followed us and once again praised her dog with a treat for not barking. Again we moved, this time to the clearance bins at the front of the store. The employee followed us AGAIN and pranced her dog back and forth in front of Bo who was beginning to become.more.agitated. I addressed the employee and explained that i respected what she was doing by training her dog; however my dog was becoming more agitated and that i would appreciate her leaving us alone to finish our trip. She rolled her eyes and walked away so i walked to the register and asked to speak to a manager. The manager came up and my girlfriend demanded an apology from the employee. The manager told us that our dog would have to leave if he was a nuisance. (He barked ONCE each time ww encountered her - he is actually very well trained.) I walked out with my niece and the two dogs and left.my girlfriend to remedy the situation. Kaley, the employee, came up and accused my girlfriend of following her and her personal dog (she wasn't even training a paying customers dog!) around the store. My girlfriend asked for corporates phone number since she did not wish to argue with this rude employee. The manager Elsa, gave her the number. When she returned to the car, we attempted to call, only.to discover that the number was wrong. My girlfriend went in again and demanded the correct phone number. We ended up not even buying what we needed. Our pets are very well taken care of and Petco just lost two very good customers. read more

I've come here numerous times for crickets and always get the exact number or less I guess they're scarce on crickets I mean I usually have extras but coming up short sucks my tarantulas like to eat, got some fish, the associate sold us a tank and Glo fish not knowing we c and they all died the manager was really awesome and took care of it all we then came back later got A different fish just one and a day later it died, got fish from another Petco, a petsmart and a tropical fish store all still alive I took back the dead fish it was replaced and THAT fish died tested the water at the store the associate assured me the levels were fine, and so I conclude do not buy fish or live feeders from this location, Robert is literally the only person who knows what he's doing read more

The Petco I hit on my way home from work didn't have the food I usually get, so I called ahead to this one before I drove out of my way home. The guy who picked up said he thinks it's in stock, but it's probably in the back, so I asked if he could make sure before I drove all the way out there. I was put on hold for 30min before someone checked on me again. She questioned if that brand even made food for small animals, and then went to check on it and came back shortly after to tell me they're out of stock. 30 minutes on hold for something someone figured out in 2 minutes. Not my usual store, but I was in the area so I popped in yesterday. Employees were super busy as usual but someone (I don't think she actually worked there, but she definitely knew what she was talking about and was really sweet, had a dog with her?) was able to help me find what I was looking for anyways. Store seemed clean, animals looked taken care of. I knocked a star off because there was a lot of stuff out of stock and the cashier took forever to come up and then had a bad attitude. Two male employees were standing around We asked one if we could see one he responded very rudely "if your going to buy one I will only if you're serious." What kind of response is that?!? Normally a 5-star review does not belong at a chain retail store. Petco has proven me wrong! I am a emotionally driven shopper. So when the love of my life, my dog, had surgery, I took her home and immediately went to Petco to buy her a more comfortable "cone". Given my weak state of mind, I couldn't help but leave with the pillow cone, two toys, and a new comfort collar. But that is not what warrants the 5 star rating. The minute I stepped into the store, Cory, who must have sensed the desperation in my eyes, asked if i needed help (I think she already knew I did, haha). She not only gave me her opinion of which "cone" to get, but also let me know the area where they were on clearance and the normal place where all the cones lived. On June 14 I went to purchase a fish for my son and Morgan was amazing, but later that day I came home to a dead fish which my son was devastated about so I called Petco and was informed I could get another fish if I brought the same fish back in the water it died in so I did so. Upon arriving back at the store I was approached by Brooklyn whom is the "manager" and she informed me that I could not get another fish unless I had a receipt so I told her I could present my bank transaction but she said she still could not honor that so I told her why did someone on the phone tell me if I brought the fish back I could get another which is untrue and she huffed and stormed off to ask another employee if she told me that then she was talking very loud telling the employee how upset I was in a rude tone and as the manager you DO NOT disrespect your customers character in such a manner as well as talk badly about them in front of other customers that is just unprofessional and rude! My son was then sad and I was going to just purchase a hamster for him but I was so upset at that point we left the store empty handed due to Brooklyn's behavior! I'm giving it a 2 because Morgan was awesome but Brooklyn was terrible and it ruined my whole experience. I really hope she is not the manager because she definitely does not act like one! read more

Every trip I've made to this store, I find all of the live feeder insects (worms, roaches, crickets) DEAD. I keep coming to check if they finally replaced the insects with live ones so my lizard can get some but they never do. The bugs seem that they have been left in their containers on the shelves for months. The worms can be preserved in a fridge like other pet stores (EVEN WALMART DOES IT), but this careless store chooses to leave them on the shelves with the rest of the insects and forget about them. $8 for two dried up, crunchy dead cockroaches? Outrageous. Prices are a rip off compared to the quality, especially the reptile equipment and bird toys. Animals, including the reptiles and birds, are also cheaper at other pet stores. Staff here has always been rude as well. I much prefer Petsmart on La Palma. read more

Awesome customer service!!! From the moment we walked in we were greeted by Tatieana! She is seriously amazing! She greeted my dog and even gave him a little treat bag because we just adopted him! The manager Chris is awesome too! They helped us with new food and toys! And honestly told us if it was good quality food or bad quality! Having been in and out off and on at this store overtime, it has its ups and downs... So, i noticed it has been through some changes with employees and products. I have had pretty good luck and help when needed. Employees are usually friendly and helpful. They price match competitor regular prices but not the competitor sale prices or any online prices of anyone. Not even their own website. Totally understand that in this day and age. I asked, the reply was no sorry it is posted on their petco.com website... , However, they said they would give me 20% off which that's what employee discounts are. So, I think my nice conversation about discounts were pleasant, which in return POSSIBLY triggered the employee to offer that for me. A very large selection of bettas . I purchased a betta & pearl scale . Noticed that the gold fish had ick. Thank God that I spotted it in time. Had to mob style the fish :( the betta was a gift & is still alive. Your better off going to wal-mart for the small stuff. read more

The employee straight out told me that they don't allow customer to choose their own fish and that she can't be standing around helping me catch a fish because "they're fast swimmer" and that she has other things to do. She spent less than 5 mins there. What if i buy a 30 dollars fish instead of a 3 dollar fish? I still can't choose because the store is short staff? First time buying a fish here and will be my last. Also there's a big different between long fin zebra danio then a black molly when clearly there are several sliver molly in the same tank and with picture labeled. Where do I start with this place? First off I have been using Petco for my dog cat and fish for about 4 or 5 years but this location sucks... I'll tell you why. The manager doesn't care about customer satisfaction. I recently purchased some fish and fish plants. They were on sale, well at least that was what the salesperson told me... The total came to about $80, which I thought was a bit expensive but my girlfriend as eager to leave so I figured I would examine the receipt when I got home. The next day after three fish died, I examined the receipt and found that I was overcharged on fish and plants, I then high tailed it over to Petco and asked for an explanation. He told me that the salesperson was an intern from high school and probably misinformed me. I proceeded to show him the exact signs he pointed to me that stated the sale. He then said "whoa" and removed the sale signs, didn't say sorry and blamed the poor intern... I NOW GO TO THE ANAHEIM FEED AND PET SUPPLY!! read more

WORST. CUSTOMER SERVICE. EVER! I am so disgusted by the lack of professionalism and courtesy at this place. Petco is overpriced to begin with but I didn't mind paying more for the novelties and the convenience (in regards to location). To make a long story semi-short, I brought an item to the register I thought was on sale (it was another type - same brand) when I noticed it was being rung up as full price I brought it to the cashier's attention. He then told me to go to the back of the store where someone else would meet me and help me (even though all my things were on the counter ready to be rung up, i had a toddler with me, and there was one other person in line behind me). I walked around the back for a few minutes and of course no one was there to help me because they were all hanging out in the break room! (or whatever the room is on the far right side of the store). FINALLY, i was able to get an employee's attention who was leaving the room and she expressed that "she THINKS they're out (god forbid she take a minute from her giggle fest to check!), or maybe not (holy incompetence batman!!) , there's none on the shelves (no shit - do they pay you for your vision skills?), they might be in a box, because she thinks she saw them" i can't make this stuff up people. It's not verbatim, but very, very close. She then told me to come back tomorrow because maybe the ones in the boxes will be put on the shelves. I swear she said this!!!!! WTF right? I'm pissed, I want to walk out, but my toddler made a treat bag at the treat bar and was really excited about giving it to our dog. So i went to the front to pay for just the treats. I stopped timing our wait at 4 minutes because I got distracted by another customer leaving their items on the counter and walking out. A few other customers were walking around bewildered looking to purchase their items. No one was to be found!!! Just then, the same cashier that sent me away ran to the front said "i'll be with you in a minute" then ran away again. His hands were empty and the store was empty. There's no excuse. I left the treats on the counter and took my toddler to target to buy some damn milk bones. read more

I just bought my son his first fish tank and I had tons of questions. Erika was very patient,knowledgeable and overall great service. It's surprising to see customer service being done and I make sure I recognize it. At check out the great service continued with Hector at the register. He assured us that if we have any problems to come back and they will take care of it and they have. Called to see if I could exchange an aggressive fish without a receipt and was told by a nice young lady that I COULD. Got there and was helped by a manager, a heavy set man. He was extremely rude and condescending. He acted like I should have known this and that. He told me that next time I need my receipt and that it is my responsibility to have it. Umm... Hello I know! That's why I called to see if I could exchange the fish without a receipt. If I was told no, then guess what, the fish would have been taken out and put in a separate fish bowl. End of story. Guy was a complete jerk. And he also tried scolding the young lady in front of us who gave the approval on the exchange. Very unprofessional and awkward for the customers. So me and my boyfriend went in here to buy my hamster a new wheel, and upon entering the windows in the front entrance are Foggy & not clean at all. Whatever. We go in and get the wheel & then venture off into the fish section only to see about 10 dead fish in the tanks, and two dead beta fish! WTF? . The tanks also look really dirty! To end my review the store is in bad shape & it was not a good experience. I'm worried for the animals there :( read more

A lot of Petco's merchandise tends to be very overpriced. When I came by, there were practically no shoppers. Maybe your one or two people here and there. I brought my dog here to get groomed. First, it was like pulling teeth to get some one on the phone, I waited for at least five minutes. Then when I got there i found out that the grooming department was a van parked out front, kind of weird. I wasn't really offered any packages, I just kind of told the girl what I wanted. I was told I'd get a call when my dog was done. I called 3 hours later to check in and was told my dog was done. I went to pick him up and was informed that my dog wasn't done and it would be another 15 min tops. 30 min later he was done. The cut looked good but I found a lot of tangles and knots behind my dog's ear when we got home. I would not recommend coming here for grooming services. read more

This is the closest pet store to me, so it's the one I usually go to for the little things I need for my fish and snakes. However, I will probably go out of my way not to go here after the things I've seen in the reptile section in recent weeks. A few weeks ago I was there for some aspen bedding, and as always I looked in at all the reptiles they had to offer. In the corn snake tank, I saw one little noodle hatchling positively *crawling* with mites, which were quite easy to see on his little body. I looked at the others and, sure enough, they all had mites too. Still giving the pet store the benefit of the doubt, because, you know, mites can spring up (it has happened to me once) either due to them being in the bedding or the shipments, whatever, and sometimes you can't look at *everyone* all the time, I went and found the guy minding the section, and pointed them out to him as just a 'hey, just a heads up, yo'. His exact words were "Oh, well, that happens." .....What? Mites to snakes that size are pretty deadly, and, as well, can spread to the other reptiles in the display very easily. He didn't seem at all concerned or even interested, and he just walked off. This is where the one star comes in. Mites happen, especially in pet stores. But the fact that the response to it was "That happens", rather than something like "Oh, we'll have to treat that" or even something REMOTELY ALLUDING TO THE FACT THAT YOU KNOW IT NEEDS ATTENTION, is what gets this place the one star. I was so floored by that that I just sort of walked away and walked out of the store, planning not to come back, like, ever. However, about a week ago, I had an undertank heater fail on me and I needed another one. Again, it being the closest store and me *still* being willing to give the store the benefit of the doubt (mostly due to my laziness, I will freely admit), I went in again. This time, I noticed they didn't have any corns at all, but they did have a few ball pythons. With...a bunch of live crickets hopping around in their tank. ...What? I stood observing this WTF phenomena, wondering if I had been incepted. Nope, the tag on the tank said it was meant for ball pythons. The habitat was set up for ball pythons. With crickets. Not one rogue, loose cricket, but crickets plural. As in probably more than five. These little pythons looked strapping enough, and would probably be eating fuzzy mice at the least. Granted, I've only been keeping snakes for about three and a half years, so I may not be on to this latest trend of herpetological husbandry but I'm pretty sure ball pythons aren't insectivores. Also, there was nothing in there for the crickets to nibble on, and I know those little guys can be pretty opportunistic feeders, so...yeah. Okay, it's Petco. Like countless reviewers have said, it's run of the mill and you shouldn't expect much. And I don't! Unless it's expecting too much not to see positively mite-ridden hatchlings or snakes being fed wildly inappropriate prey items. But for heaven's sake, PRETEND to care about the stock you have to sell. read more

The store itself is magnificent, but the "dog trainer" mediocre, she is unprofessional no courtesy skills, her appearance unkept. She does'nt know how to value customers that "pay" a lot money to have their dogs well trained and her communication skills pathetic. Advice to the dog trainer, when folks invest their time and money it is to be welcomed and honored. You need to find another job that can accommodate those unprofessional habits of yours. To management of this Petco, you need to evaluate this trainers competence as far as her training skills are concerned and how she communicates with the customers. read more

I don't like to complain and rarely leave reviews but this is definitely needed. We've been searching like crazy for a sweater for our newly adopted dog. We called to see if they had any in stock and the employee said yes and to make sure we bring the dog in for accurate sizing. So we go in and find the sweaters. As we try a few different sweaters on our dog we can see employees side eyeing us and clearly watching us and not in a nice way. It's not like we were making a mess.. We neatly hung the sweaters back up and my husband went to the register to immediately pay for the sweater we picked out. As he paid I walked around with my daughter who(naturally being a 2 year old) was fascinated with all the dog toys. I've worked retail at places like ToysRus and Marshalls and will never ever be the person who allows their kid to make a mess and just leave everything behind. I was following right behind her picking everything up. I got distracted for a split second to show my husband a collar and an employee rudely walks past us and says "Make sure she cleans that up!" Im absolutely positive he had been watching us the whole time and jumped on the small opportunity to say something. I was a bit confused for a second but looked down to see my daughter had left 3 small toys on the ground. They would have been picked up either way but I literally turned my back for a second to show my husband a collar. I said "Okay.." And picked them up. My husband was pretty mad but I said "Forget it. Let's go." I don't care how much you hate your job but one thing I've learned is you don't ever tell the customers to make sure they clean their mess up. Ever. I can't tell you how many children I encountered at work that were little rascals and ran around making a mess and I never once said anything. I will never shop at PetCo again. Employees constantly giving dirty looks, the cashier made it seem like such a hassle that we wanted to sign up for the rewards program, and the rude employee that made to comment in regards to my daughter. I came in 13 min before closing, I know I was THAT type of customer, but I needed to change out my cats food because they were not adjusting to their new food at all. So I walked in and was greeted with a dirty look , like I was bothering them, never mind I'm giving them business or anything.. anyways I immediately asked I believe her name was jesse or jessica, if they have anything for sour stomachs for cats, she stared at me with a bothered look and said No.. I asked if they had anything for upset stomachs, again her answer was No. I then told her my cats weren't adjusting to their new food and she finally suggested some digestive drops and as I was walking to retrieve the medicine she rudely reminded me they were closing soon. I get it, I worked in retail and hated it when customers came in last min but I wouldn't make them feel unwanted. What frustrated me was I wasn't trying to poke around and shop, no, I wanted to get in and get out so I can feed my cats, the staff was in such a rush to close down shop no one bothered to direct me to what I needed, mind you there was me and one other customer who almost finished paying in the entire store and 3 staff so it wasn't like someone couldn't help me. I ended up finding what I needed, fast I might add, and she had such an attitude. Definitely not happy.. probably take my business elsewhere. read more
