This place has the most elusive employees and when you catch one they are literally doing you a favor, the fish department is especially aloof and recommend a pump and filtration array, maybe they're over worked understaffed ... today i was just told the aquatics person was on lunch and the manager was on the register and that I needed to wait at least 15 mins .. and the overhead PA is telling me they have calls holding. Great experience here! Brought my pup over, picked out some toys, and snacks and headed out. The staff were SUPER friendly and helpful. We had a situation where we purchased a new collar, got to the car and realized it didn't fit. I walked back in and they easily helped me exchange for the next size down. This is why I shop at Inman Park Pet Works. This place is a sad factory. The allure of the puppy adoptions out front lured me in and I needed to get Tikka some food, so it seemed like a win-win. They have a huge selection of food, so if you're looking for something super specific this a good spot to try out. Also, the pay-per-pound treat bar up front is a cool idea and a well-priced alternative to buying bougie dog treats. Things were 4 stars before I started scanning the live animal section. The hamsters looked sad, the ferrets stunk, the fish tanks were covered with algae and grime. It all just felt dirty and unkempt and I wanted to get all of the poor animals the heck out of there. read more

I would not recommend the groomers. This was my first time at this store, and they were very rude and judgmental. My dog has very thick, long hair that I have shaved down every three to four months depending on his shedding. The two groomers who checked me in were adamant he was covered in mats and acted disgusted with him. I thought maybe I was reading too much into their attitudes, so I still left my dog with them with the understanding that he would still have fur when I picked him up. They shaved him to the skin everywhere but his head, which wasn't actually even. He looks ridiculous. There are areas where he is bare skinned and areas where there's still fur. He also didn't appear to have gotten a bath either, as he still had dander on the fur that was still there. They charged $110 for this, because "he needed to be shaved twice and he's an XL dog". He's not an XL dog-- he's a spaniel mix. So disappointed. I will never go back to this store. read more

I've been coming to this Petco since it opened, and everything has always been....meh. Especially the staff. But in the last month or so I have been upgrading my aquarium and I have to say that the staff that runs the fish area are fantastic! They know their stuff, especially Mark (or I am pretty sure that is his name) who knows fish. Today I went in to tell him about one of my poor fishies and he walked me through getting a new free one, and, as a bonus, pointed out how to tell the males from the females, and showed me what a pregnant fish looks like. I like learnin' stuff. Even the folks at the cash registers have been more personable lately, I hope this trend lasts! And if they want to give me a free ferret I won't be mad at them! read more

okay, if you're going there for animal treats and supplies, it's fine. However if you're going there for grooming: BE VERY CAREFUL. The grooming salon at Petco is amazingly hit or miss with more misses than hits. There's only one person who can be trusted with your pooch and that's Emily. The others have been responsible for cutting my dog's neck and then later giving him a haircut that was so bad that the store's manager comp'd me without me ever having to ask....yep, it was THaT bad. I only returned because I thought Emily was going to be at work. I later learned that she called out sick and the sweetest yet most incompetent non-groomer went hacking away at my poor innocent dog. I didn't get to give him a piece of mind as I learned that he suddenly left early, when I called to say that I was on my way to pick up my pooch. So, great for a dog toy, horrible if you'd like your dog to continue to resemble one. read more

Having stopped in numerous pet stores since we adopted our new dog, we've found that Petco, while having all of the requisite food, brushes, treats, and assorted other supplies in large quantities, is dropping lower and lower in our esteem. Aside from our preference to spend our money on locally-owned businesses vs. big-box stores, Petco delivers no significant cost savings for their supplies--their combs and brushes were a good 1.5-to-3 times as expensive as the other big-box Petsmart. While this Petco does have the convenience of location, it's probably more cost effective to drive (or walk) elsewhere. read more

I have converted from PetSmart to Petco, most of all because this Petco location offers much better customer service. Employees actually traipse through the Petco aisles, asking shoppers if they need help. Most recently, two Petco staff members helped me select a carpeted cat tower from the feline section's unreachable shelf--they even let me make sure the tower fit into the backseat of my Honda before I paid for it. I also think this Petco carries much cuter cat toys and beds than PetSmart. I wish I had known this before stocking up on bland bedding and catnip mice right after adopting my dear fluff-puff. Petco's only foible is the organization of cat food. Instead of having all the food arranged in one aisle, the bags and treats are scattered throughout the cat section, making it difficult for me to compare brands and prices. read more

This is my neighborhood Petco and I'm a fan. My favorites things would have to be... 1) LOTS of dog toys! And good stuff on clearance! 2) Has a variety of different dog food and treats. 3) Has a lot of different animals ready for adoption. 4) Also, has a groomer, trainer and vet. 5) The majority of employee's are kind. 6) Has big cat and dog adoption days on the weekends. The pro's definitely out way the cons. Least favorite... 1) Barely any cat toys. 2) Everything is expensive sans some dog toys. 3) Lack of staff circulating the floor. Petco is obviously revolved primarily accommodating dogs. They have a couple aisles and end caps just for dog toys. And the right side of the store is basically all dog stuff. The cat toy aisle is VERY pathetic. It's only 1/2, maybe even just a 1/4 of an aisle and very lacking. Also, expenisveeeee. Yes, kindof expected it, but cheaply made dog bowls are $20 each. Crates are over $100 for plastic and metal. Dog beds are also very expensive! I recommend going to Ross, a couple stores down, and buying a crate from there. That's what I did! Instead of paying over $100 at Petco or $75 at Target, I paid $40 at Ross for a large metal dog crate. I've also have had some bad experiences with employees. To sum up one particular experience I asked about heart worm meds. (I had no idea I had to purchase at a vet) but, both employees I talked to (One is a trainer and the other a vet tech) rudely told me that I could only purchase heart worm meds from them if my dog was tested BY their vets for being heart worm negative. You cannot have it be proved from any other vet or shelter. Sorry, but this is bullshit... I will continue shopping here because I buy my chameleon, cat and dog food here. But, I know I'll go other places for anything else. read more

I really like this store. This is the place I go to get all my cats' food, litter, toys, and so forth. It's super clean and the staff is friendly and helpful - especially Mark, although I haven't seen him there in a while. The one thing that's been driving me nuts is they used to have these cardboard boxes out where I got my cats' natural balance wet food, which I used to help me stock up on a month's worth of wet food. A while ago, they reorganized the way they put out the wet cat food and stopped putting those out. I really wish they'd go back to the old way, because I really, really don't like giant plastic bags full of wet food. Anyway, I got a 10% off coupon, and I needed to stock up on cat food anyway, so I decided to go nuts and buy even more wet food than I usually did. This time, when I got to the cashier, I asked her if there was a box I could put the food in, because I did not want like 5 extremely heavy plastic bags full of food. She was really accommodating and nice, and told me she'd been trying to get rid of a particular box anyway. I really have no complaints about this store, except that the parking absolutely sucks, but that more has to do with Target being next door and people going to Target taking Petco spaces, boo. read more

Found out they have a treat bar where you can pick out your own dog treats. They have oatmeal cookies, bagels, oreo-like treats, cheeseburger, mint, etc. Their selection of pet inventory is standard. I havent had any problems with the service, people are generally ready to help. I am not taking my crazy dog inside though, she would literally explode with excitement. read more

First and last time coming here for grooming. My dog gets shaved every year for the past 7 years and when I picked him up, I got judgmental, negative comments. No questions or a hint of a conversation, just immediate complaints about my dog and what I should or should not do. I told them my dog gets anxious, but they didn't even try and definitely didn't seem open to even wanting to in the future. They suggested I bring him to the vet in the future. Sad, bc when I took him to Petsmart in NY he passed with flying colors and praises by his groomer. read more

This place is convenient to where I live and the prices can't be beat on the kitten/cat food. I can't really comment on the service, but the cashiers are always really nice. They seem to have anything you could ever need for a cat or dog. But, the cat condos seem to be priced rather high, I would go online for any purchases other than food. read more

I use this Petco for feeder rats. They are reasonably priced and healthy. Most places give you the side eye for requesting feeder rats, but they never give me a problem here. I also buy dog treats from them, no complaints, reasonable prices. Parking is usually an issue, as this is a busy shopping center. There is a lower deck, and decent parking if you're willing to walk a bit. It's also convenient because of the many other stores nearby. read more

This is probably the closest my dogs will ever get to visiting Disney World. The store is very clean, and the staff is always helpful. Personally, I feel that you have an easier time getting help at Petco in the daytime than at night, but that makes sense as the store usually isn't as crowded after 7 p.m. My dogs love the self-serve cookie treat bags that you can weigh up and buy at the front of the store. If you have a dog, definitely spoil him/her with them! BTW: I've never tried the grooming department, but I wash and groom my dogs myself. read more

We went to this Petco for the 1st time yesterday to buy my son a fish tank/fish and was struck by how dank and dirty the store was. The outsides of the fish displays were wiped with a dirty rag so we had to wipe away the film to clearly see the fish that we were trying to buy. Many of the items for sale that we picked up were covered in dust and it was just generally nasty. The only reason they get 2 stars is that the couple of staff member we talked to were very nice and helpful, but in the end we left and bought everything from Petsmart which was much nicer, had better selection and better prices. read more

I visit this Petco when I run out of our animals' food--I typically order from Chewy.com. I hate that they sell live animals and usually do not support stores that do so, alas, I've had a hard time finding our cats' specific food at any small local retailers. I visited the store today (super busy, rainy, bad idea). Two of my items were left out of my bag, unbeknownst to me. After shopping in the area for 45 minutes then returning home, I realized my items were missing. I called back and they said they would give me my items if I would come back. I returned and explained my frustrations. The manager, Joe, apologized for the oversight. I asked if there was anything he could do since we live about 15 minutes away. He said yes and offered a percentage off of my receipt total. Both Joe and the girl who completed this transaction explained how busy they get and defended their employees, understandable, but at that point unnecessary. I saw how busy it was and remembered how hard it was to get a parking space. Bottom line, Joe was professional after finding out that due to previous coupons from my original order, the amount off he had promised was double. They honored this even though I feel certain it hurt their numbers for the day. For that, I am very thankful and will continue shopping there when necessary. Just thought everyone should know there are still managers out there with integrity. read more

Here's another great store at Edgewood Retail District...sitting to the left of Target. Due to this the parking lot in front is usually tight , so I suggest parking in the underground garage. Staff is very friendly and the store is clean (minus the smell of dog, but that's typical for a pet store). :) My favorite part is the "treat" section where you can fill a bag with an assortment of treats for your pup. My dog is a big fan of this. There's a great variety and the price is right. Overall...here's another great place you and your pet will love! read more

I have two bearded dragons, so I look for a pet store that has a good selection of exotic/reptile supplies and food. This store is well-stocked and they have staff who have reptiles at home. Reptile food is usually a good indicator of the quality of a pet store because they have to keep the feeder insects alive. They do a pretty good job of keeping the inventory fresh. They recently started carrying cockroaches, which is probably gross and vile to most people, but they're a tasty treat for my little guys (seriously though, never in a million years did I think I would pay money for cockroaches. The things I do for my pets). It's a convenient location and they even have a rewards card so I can get coupons for my purchases. The biggest negative about this Petco is the parking situation. I will NEVER go back here again. Tried to get my dogs nails cut and they "couldn't cut her nails" I get it may be hard on some dogs but that's your JOB to cut someone's nails. That's just like me working at a restaurant and telling the customers sorry I can't make the food you want I don't know how. That's ridiculous.... and the staff was rude. Maybe they need to hire new people who know how to cut dogs nails. And I am waiting for them to refund my $20... because I payed for something they didn't know how to do smh. I called to see if they had the ability to sneak in just a dog bath *not a groom* this evening. As they do take/supposed to take "walk-ins". It's was 4:30pm-- they close at 9. I first chattly asked if you could book online-- (as you can at PetSmart)-- and told him that online there is a section that says "Getting started is easy! To book a full-service appointment for your dog, click the 'Book Appointment' button on this page, or call your salon and they can set you up." but I couldn't find that 'book appointment' button!!-- with an obviously annoyed tone, he unfriendly notified me that "no we don't"--- okay-- no big deal-- So I ask- "Do you have availability to bathe a dog this evening?" He responds "Have you ever been here before? To a Petsmart or a PetCo?" I respond "no, I've never been to a Petco but Petsmart yes!" excited that he's going to get my information so I can bring my smelly boy in... He says "well good, then you know that you can't make appointments after 4." "And we're booked up until Tuesday so do you want to make an appointment or what" Ummmmmmmmmmmm First of all. Rude. Second of all--- PetSmart and PetCo aren't the same company so I don't even know what the relevance is there. After this customer experience, I guess I'll book online, for appointments after 4, at the petsmart across town. read more

Dropped my dogs off at 11am, for a basic bath/nail trim. The girl who checked us in informed me she only had One contact so she couldn't see well. I thought great, hope she isn't the one clipping my dogs nails. She informed me it would be 3-4 hours before they were ready. I go back at 2:40 to get the dogs. The salon manager printed the receipts and I went to pay. When I came back I was informed my dogs weren't ready yet. That one of them had just been put in the tub. The girl who checked us in was giving them baths I suppose. She got an attitude with me when I questioned why it had taken so long and said "I can get her out of the tub and give her to you if you want". The other one is completely dry mind you. Who knows if he was even bathed like they said. The lady went to the back and brought my dog out of the tub. LITERALLY DRIPPING WET. She was slipping on the slick tile floor because she was so wet. I'm still baffled that the salon manager argued, accompanied buy some eye rolls, that I hadn't given them the entire 4 hours, (yes, I was 20 minutes early but one dog hadn't even been Washed yet so she wouldn't be ready in 20 minutes regardless) that things happen and they got busy ( I had an appointment). The two ladies I had interaction with in the salon need an extreme course in customer service. I honestly think one of my babies was forgotten about and thrown into the tub when the girl saw me walk in. I'm disgusted by the grooming salon. I got my babies home and they both drank an incredible amount of water, which shows they weren't given any during the entire time they were created in that hot salon. I'm just disgusted by the entire experience. The manager was very nice and seemed genuinely concerned with my frustrations. The cashier was also very sweet. They know how to de-escalate a situation with a very displeased customer. We will never go back to this salon, which is a shame because I never had any issues with the salon in your Augusta store. read more

I was so pleased with the grooming of my dog at Petco, Edgewood Plaza. I called early in the day, hoping they could find an appointment for my dog and they did. All the staff were super dog-lovers, you could tell. They gave such great care to all the dogs that came in. I returned about 20 minutes early to pick up my dog, he saw me and began barking for my attention. I disappeared around the corner so he couldn't see me and a staff person appeared - spoke to him sweetly and he calmed down and was quite happy. I was pleasantly surprised by my visit on 12/1/19. It's been about a year since I used the dog wash services at this location. My prior visit was not pleasant and the facility was not clean. This time was much better. The facility was clean and the staff was nice and helpful. I'm glad I gave this location a second chance. read more

For the past 8 months, I've been coming here to get my pup's nails trimmed in the 'salon'. This afternoon was my last visit. Now, I've always received mediocre customer service from these dog groomers but it's cheap and close to my home so I've just dealt with it until now. I would never actually leave my dog for hours at a time with these sketchy folks but a nail trim is easy. Anyways, today I attempted to come in on my lunch break, assuming it would be less busy than when I usually go. There were two customers kind of sort of in line ahead of me. It was a mess - one was on the phone and fumbling through dirty, crumpled papers and one was essentially asking for a diagnosis about her pup and I tried my best to be patient behind all this.. I stood there for 15 minutes without a single employee acknowledging my presence. A simple, "We'll be right with you!" would of been fine. The receptionist/cashier/dog groomer dude managed to poke at his computer keys at a snail's pace while another employee was providing an ill-informed diagnosis all without ever once making eye contact with me. The thing that made me turn and walk out the door was watching a groomer aggressively hush a small dog who was screeching in pain every time one her nails got clipped. I don't want anyone touching my dog that doesn't know how to properly sooth an animal while they are scared. You lost my business, Edgewood Petco. read more

this place is the worst pet store ever. they are over priced- way overpriced. I usually tend to go to VA Highland Pet Supply- but my boyfriend was out running errands and ran into Petco real quick to check out food- the same food VA Pet Supply carries but almost $3 more a bag- SERIOUSLY? The selection isn't as good here as at other area pet stores, and it always feels a little dirty and dingy to me. They do have a self-service dog wash, which is nice when I don't want to soak my own bathroom while trying to clean my pup, but the "tub" had remnants of the last doggie grooming (in other words, there were clumps of hair clogging the drain that weren't cleaned out). Our dog loves the rawhide bar, and it's definitely a cool concept, but unless I'm in the area and desperately need something, I'll probably venture elsewhere. read more

I really like Petco stores and wish there was one closer to me, but I do shop here and my dog gets her nails done here:-). The store is always clean and the staff in the grooming salon are nice and some recognize us when we stop in. My favorite things are their selections of dogs foods and toys! Petco absolutely has the most variety of foods I've found, both natural and commercial. This location is in the back of the shopping plaza off of Moreland Ave. Parking can be a challenge but my dog and I love going here and I recommend checking them out and comparing to other pet stores as they are #1 in my book for chain pet stores read more

DO NOT take your dog for vaccines here unless you want to damage his health. After receiving his rabies vaccine here my dog would not eat, drink, he'd collapse after trying to get up. He would barely move & began peeing next to his bed which he never did even as a puppy. This went on for over 5 days, we thought he was dying. They use very poor quality vaccines and terrible vaccination techniques. My dog now has kidney disease which started pretty soon after his shot and my vet thinks it could be from the vaccine's quality. I feel terrible I took him there. Don't do it! read more
