Pets Are Home was highly recommended to me by a family friend and since stepping into their Kensington location for the first time in February, it immediately became my favorite store to shop for my puppy! Here's a just a few reasons why: High quality food & products: They have a great selection of food, treats, toys and supplies for a variety of pets that are perfectly organized in this beautiful decorated two-story store. As a first time dog owner, it was important for me to find high quality food and products that fit the health and lifestyle of my Morkie. It so happens that Pets Are Home is only store in the Montgomery County area that carries the specific dog food I was searching for (Farmina) and they carry a few other brands that you would not find at your larger pet stores. Customer service: I can't say enough wonderful things about the team at Pets Are Home. (HUGE shoutout to Griselda! She's the best and has been helping me since day one!) I love how this store prioritizes the health and well-being of each pet and pet owner that steps through their doors by making each interaction with their customers personable. During my very first trip to Pets Are Home, I was incredibly impressed by how knowledgeable the team was with each of their products. They provide you with helpful information and answer your questions to while you are shopping, and overall they are always happy to help. Lastly, I love that I am supporting a local small business that is woman owned and minority owned. If you are in the Montgomery County area, please be sure to visit the Pets Are Home location in Kensington and the upcoming North Potomac location opening soon!

Pets Are Home is a great independent pet food store. We stopped by on a whim about a year ago, not really needing anything pressing or having any big expectations. Nathan immediately greeted us and started consulting with us on our dog's needs. We were so surprised because I've never experienced service like that. Rusty was getting older, had some kidney issues and rejected the food the vet prescribed. Nathan made a few recommendations and we left with some free samples. Thank you, Nathan! We are grateful and are loyal customers. Unfortunately, we lost Rusty earlier this year, but we continue to visit Pets Are Home weekly with our new pup, Skywalker. The store sells goat milk, grain-free kibble, carni4, Primal products, snacks, toys, leashes, and other carefully vetted, high quality supplies for cats and dogs. Hi

Rewards program food and store! Stop on by and support your local pet store.

I love this place. About two years ago I had two 16-year old doggies die within six months of each other, but for the last year of their lives, the folks at Pets Are Home recommended items that helped keep them healthy, comfortable,, and also provided them with things they loved (most notably, a recommended chew toy for my German Shep that she spent her last months absolutely loving. And for my other dog, goat milk, which I never would've purchased without their guidance. My aussie wouldn't eat anything the last few days of her life - the milk honestly made her so happy and her tummy more comfortable). Since those dogs have passed away, I've fostered a lot of sick animals, many puppies dying from parvo, kittens that won't eat, etc. and I swear recommendations from Nate have saved so many lives. Just yesterday I went in with a desperate plea - three kittens full of worms and had just started medication, but hadn't eaten anything significant in three days and were wasting away. Nate's recommendation was a success, and the relief I felt to see them all willingly eat was amazing. Thanks to Nate and Pets Are Home!

We stopped in thinking this would be a typical small pet supply store, we were immediately greeted by Nate, one of the owners. He asked about our pet and we told him about our 13 year old dog Rusty and some of the health issues he is starting to see. Nate was so engaged and had great recommendations, sending us home with samples. The products they carry are the absolute best quality I have ever come across!! We went back with our dog to pick up some of the food we had gotten samples of. Gabe was working and was just as friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about pets and pet care! He spent a lot of time meeting and petting Rusty and helping us decide what all to get- we will only be shopping at Pets Are Home! I'm telling everyone I know to go stop by - you will be a fan too! Rusty can't wait to go back!

Every booking, every pet, every time: more signatures and "agreements" than a mortgage closing. Somewhere there's a lawyer who's never met a dog and decided the real threat to this business is the guy who's paid them loyally for three years. You carefully fill out the entire grooming form online, pick every option -- then show up and they shove a paper copy across the counter to sign the exact same thing again. And after all that paperwork, they still claim they don't have the phone number they've had on file for three years and called me on before. Let's put this in perspective. I can order dinner to my door in two taps -- Reorder, Apple Pay, done. A stranger drives hot food across town on the strength of my thumbprint. But dropping off dogs these people have known for three years apparently requires a signing ceremony and a fresh liability waiver every single visit. In 2026, that's not caution. That's a business that's forgotten how to trust its own customers. And then there's the membership -- the crown jewel of contempt. They took a system that worked and actively torched it. Gone are the daycare credit packs: fair, flexible, buy-what-you-need, the way a business treats people it respects. In their place, a pricier monthly "membership" that auto-drafts your card whether your dog walks through the door or not, with no rollover for the days you paid for and never used. Read that again: you pay, they keep it, your dog gets nothing, and they call it a perk. It's not a membership -- it's a standing withdrawal from your bank account with a bow on it. It punishes the exact people who kept this place in business: the regulars whose lives don't run on a fixed weekly schedule. Some months my dogs come once, some months five times, because that's how actual life works -- and this program is built to make sure I lose either way. It doesn't serve pets. It doesn't serve owners. It serves a spreadsheet, and it treats every loyal customer as a recurring charge to be maximized rather than a person to be valued. It is, top to bottom, the most openly hostile "loyalty" scheme I've ever been asked to fund. When customers spend more time signing forms and fighting your billing than petting their dogs, you're not a pet resort -- you're a law firm with a kennel attached. Take your pets somewhere that still remembers what the word "customer" means.

Other than never being able to figure out whether I was due for a free dog wash after my six visits, I always had good experiences with this location, that all changed today. Today's issue happened to be that I got a call 15 minutes before I was supposed to be there saying that they needed me to come 30 minutes late to my scheduled appointment, when I said, I would split the difference and be 15 minutes late because I already had the dog in the car and was on my way. I was put on hold and then told that would be OK. Upon my arrival I was put in a room that had so much hair from the previous dog that the tub would not drain and I walked out covered in hair that was blowing around when trying to dry my dog (that was after having to move the dryer as they did not have the 2 that are normally there). Meanwhile, they were having one of their employees groom another dog in the room next-door instead of having the self wash stations open for self washes for their customers. Then to top it off the price to wash my own dog (with someone else's dog hair) is now $30 for a 20 minute time-slot, a teaspoon of shampoo and some of their water. I've been frustrated that it was difficult to call to schedule an appointment. Their website was/is cumbersome and not conducive to actually scheduling a time but gives an "afternoon/morning/evening" option. Then they would reach out to you with what times were available and you'd go back-and-forth trying to iron out a time instead of just being able to call. Very disappointed at the direction this new ownership has taken this establishment. This will probably be our last visit here...

During my visit, I fell in love with a fluffy little girl. I had already decided to buy her, but I wanted to follow the basic steps that responsible owners recommend. I asked about her vaccinations and about the health testing of the parents. The staff told me that all of their puppies come from small local families here in Virginia, that the families vaccinate before shipment, and that they only breed from healthy parents. I felt reassured and excited. To be safe, I asked to see her paperwork. I was told earlier that everything was local, so this was supposed to be a simple confirmation. Instead, the papers said she was bred in Missouri. I asked the salesperson how Missouri counted as "local to Virginia" and why he had told me the exact opposite. He said he got confused. That explanation made no sense. I pointed out that he had spoken with confidence about all of their puppies coming from local families, and yet the paperwork showed something completely different. At that point, I could not trust a single thing I had been told. If you are thinking about buying a puppy from here, look at the paperwork yourself before you make any decision. Do not rely on what the staff tells you. My experience showed me that what they say and what is written on the documents are two very different things.
