Very stingy with their carts only 3 or 4 in the entire store. I was rudely approached at by a worker, a man with curly hair and glasses I believe. This isn't the first time I've seen him be rude with a customer either. After he rudely stated I cant take it outside, he just grabbed the cart and walked away. Acting like it's the end of the world if I take a cart outside like pls be fr. I had 2 bags of dog food, treats and toys. I was going to return the cart inside once I was done but there was no way I could carry everything into my car at once. I received multiple confirmations leading up to my dog's appt. which requested a 24-hr notice for cancellation and they literally called me 10 mins prior to my appt (when I was almost there) to cancel. I will NEVER COME BACK HERE. TOOK OVER 4 hours to do my dog. She only weighs 10 POUNDS. I always drop her off early. They made me wait 30 minutes just to drop her off. I don't know why this store doesn't have a perfect rating. Granted I do not get my animals groomed here, but as far as their customer service in the store is concerned this store is by far the best! And I'm talking the best across the board in comparison to the experiences I've even had at Neimans and Saks! Every employee here is so friendly, helpful, and go above and beyond to make sure their customers feel appreciated and special!! They've guided me through my new but obsessive aquarium hobby, and have always been helpful with any questions or concerns I've had regarding my fur babies! Mo is the store manager there and he has gone beyond by going to other stores to locate items I've been asking for, to make sure that they are in stock when I need them!! We took our Shitzu in for a grooming and cut. We wanted a cut but got a butcher! It was supposed to be 1/2 inch long but ended a mat of no more than 1/8-1/4 inch. His backside was almost totally shaved! You can see his skin. I am sick. The gal was nice , and we could tell she was very conscientious and thorough, but clearly did not do what we asked for. I alway shop at PETSMART and I love it!! Unfortunately they didn't the cream I needed for my dog so I had to come here. The service was horrible, Specially from Rhi. I asked her about some dresses because they didn't have the size I wanted and she said "all we have is there" and continued to carry her conversation with a co-worker, not even tried to help me find the right size. I asked her if they could order a specific size and she replied "I don't know, I don't do that" and continued with her conversation with the co-worker. After that, there was no reason for me to give them anymore business so I turned around and went to checkout. it happened that Rhi cashed me out, and this is for the manager, she didn't even try to sign me up for the rewards after I told her I wasn't signed up. I can only assumed is mandatory for the employees to do so. Nobody even tried to help me and with Rhi's interaction, I will never go back to shop at petco. I wasn't pleased with the employees on the floor when I came in here on May 31st. My husband and I were about to meet and pick up our new puppy from the breeders down in the area and stopped off at Petco to get some basics to tide us over before we went back for more later on. We wanted some information on the kennels for sizing, training, etc. and the employees that were there seemed more concerned with other things and ended up wasting our time and money, thankfully we were saved by the Petco crew in La Mesa who corrected the mistakes and gave us better insight. I took my Maltese to get a bath and cut, from the start Laura was just not professional. So I was told that it would take about 2 to 3 hours. After 3 hours we went back and no; in addition I asked how much longer. The Manager! The Manager told me that Laura went to lunch ( I can understand) and that she will be back; but not to worry because she has about "10 more minutes of work to do left." So screw my pet who is more than a pet! He is family! I could also see that her phone is more important that her job because she kept on checking it and texting back while cutting my dogs hair! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEIR REBATE LIES :( I spent $40 on cat food for the advertised $15 mail-in rebate. I followed the instructions and mailed it in proper. This is where their Customer "Service" FAILED: 1. They never contacted me BUT they say they e-mailed me. 2. When I called they hung up on me after being on hold over ten minutes. Then their system does not work, I kept pressing "0" but it would not allow me to leave a message. 3. ATTITUDE!!! ATTITUDE!!! ATTITUDE!!! The lady who FINALLY answered my call (Gosh, I was so lucky that she made time out of her precious day to finally speak to me) she was cold, rude, unprofessional and unwilling to help. In reference to the Grooming: So I called this place before hand to see if there was opening for a dire need of a bath and cut for my puppy. The lady said yes come on in. We came in and they lady rudely told up make an appointment for another day with not explanation!! She looked more concerned about leaving. There was no other dog in there and they were not closing anytime soon. I should of yelped this place before leaving. Rude and no customer service We later found a great place just a few blocks away Paws and Whiskers Grooming on Third. And I am thankful for them.. They are the Polar opposite of Petco, Great costumer service, vary nice and friendly. I take my little dog there for all my grooming needs. He is normally very scared around other people when I leave him alone but he is always happy when I leave him with Jess and the rest of the crew. I am very happy with all the work they have done on him and I have never had an issue. I have taken him to other places in the past but there is always something wrong. The customer service here is non existent. I walked in to grab some dog food knowing where I was going and heading to the register. The cashier was busy, not helping other customers but playing with the adopt the cat station. She finally decided to slowing return to her register to only have another employee approach her to talk about some artist she commissioned for some of her art. How do I know that much of the conversion? The grooming professionals are all so kind and sweet to my 100 Lb. Golden Lab! Samantha aka Sam, is truly loving to my girl and gave her so much love and tenderness while she pampered her with a wonderful bath and conditioner for her sensitive skin due to allergies. Sam took great care in trimming her nails and buffing them out so she would not be able to injure herself scratching. My Lucky Girl was all brand new, conditioned and extra shedding crushing and a blueberry facial to top it off! My Girly was a whole new woman! I trust leaving my girl with them and am confident she is in the best of hands! The grooming professionals have excellent training and work well with any pet. They are heroes while my Girly is with them and she truly enjoys going for her all the works baths! It's her spa day and Sam and the other terrific folks are the BEST! read more

An okay place. The one in East Chula Vista is better though. It is over-priced, and when you walk in there sometimes, you would find yourself crammed when they have their dog training sessions which is blocked from the fish side all the way to the bird section. So let's say you are done viewing the fish section and going towards the rodents area, it's blocked. You'll have to go around. Few staffers. If you need help selecting some fish, rodents, birds or have questions about dog/cat food (sometimes there's a food representative, that'll encourage you to buy their company's food versus the other brand food); the staffers could be found at the cashiers or storgae room, but they're usually busy and you'll have to wait a few minutes to get some help. Some staffers do not know much about your pets needs' especially if you're planning to get fish, rodents, birds or ferrets... all they know is the basic information that you need to know. The rest, they'll advertise you to buy their Petco books about those animals for more information. read more

I bought a cat food for $23.99 at national city and it did not work for my cat. So i went to this one to exchange to a cat food that was $19.99. And the cashier told me to pay 36 cents because they have different tax rates. (National city 9%, chula vista 8%) Even though the one i went to has lower tax rate and the one i wanted to get was $4 cheaper, she asked me pay 36 cents. It does not make any sense to me. read more

Ugh where to begin. I called the groomers yesterday and spoke with them for 4 minutes and booked an appointment for my dog Max. They even told me that it was his first time coming in and I would need to bring in a copy of his vaccine records. So after hanging up the phone I immediately put the appointment in my calendar, which I do for all things. And tried to organize my day around my daughter, my dog, and my job; of how to navigate to the vet to get his records. So that was kind of a pain to begin with, but whatever I totally understood. I also had to cancel a few clients at work to be able to make Max's grooming appointment, because I needed him groomed that bad. So I'm getting ready to leave at about 10:30 I have to pack up my 18 month old and my dog and get out of the house, and if anyone has kids and a dog you can vouch that is not easy. I walk into the pet groomers at 10:50 for my 11 AM appointment and they turn my away saying that I must have the wrong Petco because they had no Max on file, or my phone number. I walked out kind of flustered because they offered no help, just saying that it "can't be them because there are 3 Petcos in Chile Vista." Well I go out to my car call the other 2 Petcos in Chula and no one has heard of me. I go back to my phone records to see the original store that I spoke with yesterday. And BEHOLD! It was the first store that turned me away. At this point I am so frustrated because it was so difficult getting out of the house, getting his records, rearranging clients, missing my daughters nap time... now my daughter is screaming... Max (my dog) is puking in the back of my car, and I am on the edge of tears. I call the Petco back and explain that it WAS them that booked my appointment, and the girl I spoke with just put me on hold forever, finally a man picks up. He acts like he has no idea why I am on hold, so I explain everything and he pretty much tells me there is NOTHING they can do except accommodate me for a future appointment. Which was really upsetting givin how everything else had played out, but oh well at least they were going to give me a complimentary grooming service, right?! WRONG! Apparently accommodate just meant schedule. Worst morning in a long time. Also, do people not understand how good customer service goes a long way?! I would have forgiven a lot of I felt like anyone at this store gave a crap. Awful!!! And I included a picture to prove I called them the day before to schedule. read more

Don't use them for your pets medication. They will not honor a prescription from your current veterinarian or call them for verification. They want you to have to use their vet and pay their fees before giving you something as simple as heartgard. Go through Walmart they will contact your vet for you. read more

I go to this petco only because It's the closest petco for me, but I hate it because whenever you want something there's not enough employees you have literally to hunt them down or go to the cashier to ask for assistance then they make you wait a lot, when you are in a hurry you have to wait a lot for assitance also a lot of products are out of stock just the other day I had to go to the one on national city to get some bird supplies because this store had them out of stock I want this petco to hire more employees! and restock also please hire people that have knowledge in the reptile section (I won't name anyone but awhile ago a cashier screwed up and let my boyfriend's gecko escape while trying to grab it) only good thing they do is greeting you when you enter the store that's about it. read more

Well I really don't recommend bringing your pet here for a haircut unless you want them to cut your dog. My dog is a yorkie. very small and easy to work with. Mind you the cut was in my poor dogs testicles. Very bad service. They paid for my dogs visit at the vet and gave me a refund but I am very upset that this happened. Horrible management! They had multiple dead Betta Fish, with one of them having fungus growing on it. I told Jeremy about their situation and he got extremely defensive and basically barked at me saying that they charge water daily and if I don't believe him, that's on me. It takes more than one day for a dead fish to grow fungal hyphae that is visible. Someone should take responsibility and do the right thing or resign from their position of responsibility. read more

If I could give this place any lower of a score I would.. Took my puppy in for grooming service last week. Called they couldn't do anything because of a blackout. I understood and rescheduled for today! Dropped him off at 3pm, got a call at 6 that they could not cut his hair, mind you this is his first time, and to pick him up. I go to the store, only one person around for at least 20 mins. I asked him if he could go in and get my puppy, who is going crazy because he saw me. He said nope, because he was ringing people up- even after I had been waiting. He proceeds to call for back up on the intercom, with no luck. I finally flag a girl down with a red Petco shirt- not sure what that means. She goes into the are where my puppy is in his cage, and walks out. I asked if she could please get him for me. She said unfortunately no. I was PISSED!! So I said I would go in to get him myself. Then the manager, Rafa, who is an idiot btw gets my puppy. I asked if all of the other services besides the haircut were done, he said no. I asked why, he said he didn't know. I asked for the number to their corporate office, he went into some room to supposedly get it. After waiting another 5 mins, I go and look for him. He proceeded to come out with nothing. He then asked the same girl if she knew where the flyers are with the 800 number. She also said no. He's the manager, he should AT LEAST know that!!!For such a "reputable" company. Please put more experienced employees on the cash register to communicate with customers better. Asking to sign up for a pet pal membership was atrocious- we repeatedly asked over and over again if we could sign up and the man responded yes over and over again, and then did nothing. One of the most awkward moments since we stood there waiting for something to happen so we could sign up and he just stood there cow eyed.... so we just walked out. Come on now. Wow--these other reviews are just the opposite of my experience. Now I've started private training class with Marissa, and I could not be more pleased. Three weeks into it, and my rescue dog who turned into an absolute monster whenever he saw either a diesel truck or another dog is walking by my side and learning to stay calm when either of those triggers occurs. I'm so excited! Every time I am there, I am greeted by every employee I come across, they are happy to help me find what I need, make recommendations, etc. And they remember Toby and greet him like he is a long-lost family member! So... in contrast to the other reviews here, I'd say run, don't walk, to this Petco and find friendly, knowledgeable staff who want to do their best for you and your pet. I will never take him to Southbay Veterinary Hospital for grooming again; they specialize in pets health care and basically suck at grooming services. I took my dog to get groomed today and when I FINALLY received help Laura (remember that name when you come here) was EXTREMELY rude! My dogs name is Django and she said "this is the wrong dog we have 'Jango' in our system." I politely said "well the D is silent and your coworker didn't ask me to spell it when I made appointment." Then everything after was attitude. I asked for a simple request and she said "No, we can't do that, it's just a simple cut." This place is horrible. HORRIBLE. I took in my beautiful aussie to get groomed. So I spent around 80bucks on the deluxe and nails and 1-hour de-shedding. Basically I paid for the whole expense. What did I get? HORRIBLE service. Some rude old man received me very rudely, and kept telling me my dig wasn't THERE?? I almost flipped. Apparently they can't spell basic names. Second, my dog was basically untouched when I got her. Just damp. Her hair was not trimmed, she did not smell nice, she still had matts , her nails were NOT trimmed or filed. She was still shedding. I also got no bows/bandana (which comes with the deluxe), or "treat" bag. Nothing. Apparently the dude who "groomed" her went on his lunch break, and what? He didn't finish? They didn't give me a review, or anything. So if you don't want to waste your money, go elsewhere. This place is probably the bottom of the barrel. A bunch of lazy asses.
