There were two cashiers and one walks off even though there's still a line. And the only remaining one is talking to her friend at the register. I asked her to call for more staff. She did. A tall guy walks up and checks out one person and then leaves. Even though there's still a line. You want people to shop in your store? Why are two separate cashiers leaving after a single check out? This location is a joke. They handle animals as a service in the grooming department. When booking the appointment, I was told to bring updated vaccination records in which I did. I then get told that they needed a document that states the next due date to ensure it is up to date. I had brought the same document when I first brough my dog here. So why is this time different. There was nothing indicating I needed to bring paperwork that showed the due date. What could have been a simple process as Jessica stating let me call the vet's office to confirm, turned into a huge blown out argument. It wasn't until later after she had gone off the handle yelling at us that she said she would call. This is when the manager got involved and heard Jessica's side of the story. Don't know why she needed to get into it again when the manager was clearly standing right there hearing everything. She of course storms off. While waiting for the manager to speak to us, he rudely asked okay so tell me what's going on. We were just thinking he was going to go after her. His response was " Well I'm still standing here!" He then proceeds to tell us that customers are responsible for bringing in the vaccination records. That's common sense. Which we did and was still told so in a condescending way. The main point wasn't the fact that the vaccination records weren't accepted. The issue was the way it was approached. If she was ultimately going to pick up the phone and call the vet's office, then she could have done so. I went into my vet's app and obtain the record showing a screenshot of when the next shot was due. Jessica could have just easily explained the process and apologized for any confusion the Petco app may have given. Ultimately we were asked if we would still like to leave our dog to be groomed. Like we would after that interaction. For people who handle animals, they are rude and seem miserable with their own lives. I never had such a bad experience. My dog is medium size, I took her to this place, and I told them she needs bath, nail trimming and haircut and cut the hair between her pows. Total was $90, which I had no problem to pay for the service. After 3 hours they called me and told me she is ready for pickup. I got there and picked her up,and when I looked at her nails,wasn't trimmed , the hairs on her paws were not done, ask why? She said your dog won't cooperating!!! We did have an appointment. Neither my daughter nor I were told of a 3-4 hour grooming time. The groomer who told me did not have the best customer service. Too many dead fish in the tanks and cups, which is very sad. Saw several dead fish in one visit. Fish should be taken care of better than this. If they aren't selling quickly enough, then have a smaller stock and care well for the ones that are there. Also, saw someone buying fish that don't get along with plans to put them in the same tank. Employees should be taught about this and on the lookout so things like this don't happen. Prices here are slightly higher than at other Petco locations in Southern California. Also, the bathroom situation is terrible. It's kept locked and have to request multiple times to get let in. Then when finally able to get in, it's disgusting. I have been a Petco customer for almost 20 years. I will never spend another penny at Petco after my experience in the Glendale store today. Petco mailed me coupons and I brought them in to redeem. They expire on 11.5.2025 and the POS had an error message saying they were expired. Obviously a glitch. The "manager" Stephanie came over and told me to call customer service about the issue. I've been a retail manager and the proper way to assist a customer is to 1.honor the coupon and staple to a receipt for your accounting department, plus roll up to your boss the issue you are having with said coupon or 2. Call customer service yourself to make sure that you take care of your client. I was on the call for over an hour trying to get the coupon on my pal rewards so I could use it in store. At the 30 minute mark, I mentioned to "manager" Stephanie that the customer service representative told me that the store should have accepted the Petco coupons and that the employee not the customer should be calling customer service. She told me that she could call and I responded that I've already been on the call for 30 minutes so what's the point. I also mentioned that making me call about a coupon sent from Petco is not good customer service. She shrugged her shoulders, rolled her eyes, and walked away. If I am the DM, I would immediately pull her off the sales floor and keep her in the back so she is not engaging with clients. I would also put her on a Performance improvement plan as she acts like a high school girl with clients, instead of behaving like a professional manager representing a world class company. Extremely Disappointed -- Wrong Item, No Help, and Rude Service I bought a dog pen from Petco, but was given the wrong box. It's a massive box that barely fit in my car, and now Petco is telling me I have to return it to the store to exchange it. Today I showed up for a grooming appointment and was immediately turned away by the groomer, Melissa. I asked to speak with the manager, Nicole, who spoke to Melissa and then told me she thought my dog could possibly have a health problem based solely on an offhand comment, and that even if I showed her a vet's note that confirmed there was no health issue, she would not accept it nor allow my dog to be groomed. Nicole was unnecessarily hostile and kept changing alleged policies, then started making accusations that I was making things up. I repeatedly asked if I could call the vet and have them reassure her and verify that everything was fine, but she refused. I'm still unclear as to why we were singled out and insulted, it was completely unacceptable, and the worst customer service I've ever encountered. Curly's appointment was at 1:45pm but we arrived at 1:53 due us having a hard time finding a parking but the receptionist told me that we were late and that they could not accept Curly anymore. I came in to get a number of supplies for the new fur baby. It has been a number of years since I've been in to buy anything for a pup. I'd been buying for our fish but that's about it. I was able to find what I needed but needed to find the right people so I could ask my questions. I needed a brush, shampoo, food, etc. In the past I'd had a different breed of pup. This time around, I needed whatever was appropriate for a Yorkie. I wasn't able to find anyone on the floor for the longest time. Then when I was able to find someone they weren't real friendly and certainly didn't seem all that interested in taking the time to help me. He said that he was going to go and find someone to help me. Instead he was in communication with someone via walkie. He was able to get the answers from them. I felt the shampoo suggestion was rather vague and wasn't helpful. I didn't like that part. I went into the next door Ross I believe it is. There I found the same shampoo for less than 1/2 the price of what I paid here. I also bought a pet deodorizer here but that didn't turn out well. I am hoping to be able to return it in the next day or two. It caused a nasty residue on my pet and it looked terrible, like severe dandruff. I really would have appreciated help with the dog tag that I needed to make as well but that wasn't going to happen. It would have been nice to find a shopping cart available too but there weren't any. My little one is handicapped but doesn't have a wheelchair or stroller so a shopping cart would have really come in handy but hopefully they will have 'em available next time. Fingers crossed. I also hope to find a harness that is the appropriate size for our fur baby the next time we stop in. There didn't seem to be too many available in the first place, and none of them in XS. read more

Our poor dog was held at the groomers for 6 hours! And asked why, their excuse was "We weren't able to reach you"!? If there was an option for -10 rating, this groomer Angie and the other groomer working that shift would certainly have receive it. When I finally picked up my dog at 2p and enquired why didn't we get a call.. she began saying I called and texted the number that Lucky was ready for pick up at 11:05a( this was logged in their systems)- no contest there! I will note that my wife nor myself DID NOT received any calls or text messages from PETCO or the groomers. She kept insisting she called and texted the number. When I asked which number of the 3 that's on file did you call and text she said it doesn't matter. It does matter because the number on file she called was my wife's department line which is answered by a live person and if she did text that number then duh, no response because its a business number. And if she called that number(Which i don't she did) some one would have answered the call and would have rerouted to my wife's direct line. And by saying you texted that number, that's like me texting PETCO's main line asking for something, and guess what I'm not going to receive a text back. I should note again there are two other numbers on file which are both our cells. If this was my business and my employee said I'm not getting a response from the number I'm calling I would have said, have you tried calling the other 2 numbers on file. How lazy do you have to be not to call those numbers. And what pissed me off was, she tried to put the blame on us that we didn't call! I did call because if didn't my poor dog would still be there! Both your Vetco team members and groomers did even not meet the lowest expectations. Groomer returned dog smelly and wet and hair was coming out of him for days. Paid 100 plus a tip, but in hindsight realized they ripped us off for barely a wash and "dry". Both the receptionist and the other staff at Vetco in Glendale, CA did not clarify that shots in a series would have to be paid each time, which is insane the first place. I asked if the shots were all covered with the first payment and they said yes. If I knew they charged for subsequent shots, I wouldn't have done the series of shots, but that's probably why they didn't say at the first visit, so that they could make more more money off of you on the next visit. Doctor and tech both didn't bother to clarify or even print the prices for the subsequent shots on the estimate paper I got on first visit. Lastly, the doctor tried to up charge us by adding on a bunch of unneeded tests on first visit. Receptionist on second trip also gave us a hard time for barely being 10 minutes late after my dog had an accident in the apartment. When we got there at 9:10, their office was empty. I have other pets in the apartment and I couldn't just leave the mess and let them be exposed, but receptionist there DGAF and gave attitude on phone and on arrival. She should lose that attitude if she doesn't want more complaints. Called customer care and they are as useless as a screen door on a submarine. Absolutely disgusting service and company, i'll stick with Chewy.com and my original vet office. read more

Not sure if this review will even make a difference after reading the other reviews. The service at this location on Sunday is particularly bad, no pun intended if you're Christian. On the rare occasion I have to go in on Sunday to order crickets for my school's science lab, the order somehow gets lost after a call is made over the intercom. On average, I have to wait 15 minutes and then remind the cashier, even though there are staff standing around, cracking jokes and not following up on the order. During my visit here a couple days ago, I was shocked by what I saw at this Petco: Betta fish stacked up in little cups with no heater in winter! The ironic thing is that I had gone here in hopes of finding things that would improve the living conditions of a betta fish that used to be in a cup and rescued from the 99 cents store. I looked at different tanks, rocks, toys, and plants the guy showed me, all of which I bought. I have even invested in a small heater knowing betta fish are tropical creatures and need to be in water which is 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Basically, I've been doing whatever I can to make this little betta we have a bit more comfortable since all the research and basics on betta point to making sure they live in the right water temperature, have adequate space to swim, and have some plants/toys to play with or hide in. Yet here I was at Petco, a company specializing in animals and selling items that should make the betta's life better, doing all the wrong things themselves. The weird part was the Petco rep telling me all about what my fish needed and could benefit from (selling me all kinds of stuff) while keeping the fish they sold in the worst conditions. I mean look at these creatures. They are so miserable they look like they're almost dead, especially the female betta that could actually be kept in groups in a nice tank since they don't fight other fish like the males do. I wonder if they even feed them. :/ This seriously looks bad, Petco. I hope you will come to respect these beautiful creatures and give them the proper living conditions they need. If I could give -5 stars, I would. Terrible management and poor service. A group of us (4 people and 4 dogs) arrived at this PETCO today for an outing of Halloween, treats and food shopping. We have large dogs and were using this opportunity to socialize and expose them to a store with people, smells and animals. We do this often and are usually treated respectfully as others seem to appreciate our efforts to have disciplined pets. We found quite the opposite at this Petco location where the manager (who refused to give his name but believe it is Ramon) verbally accosted us and forced us to leave the store even though we were shopping and attempting to purchase a large amount of food and treats. To begin, we usually take things slowly in the stores so that the animals can sniff, get acclimated, in order to proceed calmly. After checking out some of the front displays, two of us stayed at the front of the store near the closed vet checkin while two went a few isles down towards cat treats and food. At no point were any of the dogs misbehaving or acting aggressively towards any patrons or pets. We had received only smiles and waves; making a child's visit as all the dogs downed as they passed by. I say this to show that not only were the dogs not being a hindrance but also to demonstrate that anyone who has been around a dog for more than half a second can clearly see what we are doing. There has never been any confusion from the general public as to what we are doing. Often we are asked if they are service dogs or training for competition but still obvious as to the goal of socialization in public environments. We are not trainers, just pet owners. However, after only a few minutes, the manager Ramon came up to the two of us at the front of the store and said, "What are you doing here?". Though we thought it was painfully obvious of dog owners being in a pet store, we responded with "training the dogs to be in the store and shopp.." but before we could finish the manager cut us off saying "you can't be in here. There is no training in my store. This is my store" when asked why he stated that this is private property and we were not welcome. Only after the third time of us explaining that we were with others shopping did he stop accosting us insinuating that we were somehow trespassing in a place during its business hours. The only thing left to do was for all of us to return our items to the shelves (over a 100 in treats and food) and leave since it was now clear that this was "his store" and he didn't want any customers. Ramon made the situation very awkward and unwelcoming and because of this, there will be no future orders from us and we will not be returning to any PETCO. When we reached out to corporate, they just vaguely hoped we had a great day and that they could gain our trust again without offering any solutions. read more

Love PetCo, but this location does not have great management! They are also marked as being open at 8 am today, but was rudely told that they open at 10 am with no signage of new hours! PetCo should really do better rather than having people wait for 20+ minutes outside... read more

Used to enjoy coming here for my pet goods (I have dogs, cats, fish, and turtles) but now you can't even get service. Came in on a busy Saturday....only 1 employee working the check out line, there were 2 female employees restocking but they weren't working because they were leaning against the shelves gossiping about other people at work. I asked for help to get some fish. They paged for help in aquatics, went back to gossiping and I waited 15 mins with no help so I walked out. read more

Visited before COVID-19 Started bringing my dog to this location for grooming instead of the La Canada site. I like most of the groomers here because they don't try to sell you more stuff and their prices seem to be more reasonable. One of the groomers unfortunately doesn't made suggestions when he should have. I requested a bath for my dog which was fine, but I noticed when I picked my dog up that he seemed to be matted. What my dog should have had was a cut/trim in addition to a bath, but he didn't call me to make that suggestion. I complained to the groomer who released my dog to me. She said that that particular groomer just wants to do what the customer asked for, not do what is best for the dog. I was very disappointed. I ended up having to bring my dog back earlier than anticipated in order to get another bath WITH a cut. Plenty of free parking in a shared lot. read more

Wonderful customer service here. Darren was so helpful and sweet when we brought our cat to Vetco. He helped us pick out what we needed. He also has a way with connecting with animals because our cat looked like he loved him more than us lol. He also explained everything so well to us. Went here to check out the aquatics department and see what kind of freshwater fish were available as I'm new to the hobby and find all of this really fun and exciting. Was really impressed with the quality of this store at first! But upon finding the fish that I wanted, we (myself and my partner) asked Natalie (the manager on duty) if someone was available to get the fish for us. She looked at both of us (two gay men) and said, "The person who works in this department went home sick." My partner said, "Are you able to get the fish for us?" And she said, "No." My partner said, "So we're just not able to get any fish? I used to work as an aquatics specialist... I could even get them myself." And she said, "No. You'll have to come back some other time." My partner said, "I've never experienced this before. So you're saying that you're refusing to get the fish for us? We're paying customers..." And Natalie looked at us, shrugged her shoulders, and said, "Sorry." And walked away. We both then went to the cashiers and asked to speak to the manager. It was at this point that we were informed that Natalie WAS the manager and that she was the only one in the store, at the time, who was properly qualified to get fish for customers. I used to work customer service. I understand if she was busy and am totally sympathetic! But not once did she say that she was busy or with another customer. She just flat out refused to help us. Her lackadaisical, unfriendly, and (possibly) homophobic attitude turned a positive experience into a negative experience. The only reason I'm not giving one star is due to Melanie and the other cashiers/store associates. They were all so kind to us and apologetic over the entire situation.
