I'm always in the market for local pet supply store to try out, especially if it saves me a 45 minute drive. We searched Yelped and this place popped up. They are located within a small shopping plaza. It was quiet during our visit on a Sunday afternoon so there was ample parking. The shop is a decent size with a mixed variety of brands I'm familiar with and some I am not. They carry Nutri-source which I haven't been able to find anywhere else aside from a pet store in Redondo Beach. They also carry Against the Grain canned food which has one or two ingredients--perfect for our pup that has a sensitive stomach. The owner was welcoming and provided a lot of information. It was our first time and it was a good experience. We will likely be back! read more

I am extremely disappointed by my experience with the owner of Rock Dog & Cat in Eagle Rock. I parked in a designated accessible parking space using my valid, DMV-issued disabled parking placard. Instead of minding his own business, the owner approached me and questioned how I "got" a handicap placard because he assumed that I didn't appear to be disabled. That question was inappropriate, invasive, and discriminatory. Not all disabilities are visible, and no one owes a stranger--or a business owner--an explanation of their private medical conditions. The DMV has long recognized that many qualifying disabilities are invisible and do not require someone to use a wheelchair. I simply told him that I have multiple medical issues, because frankly, I shouldn't have had to justify my disability to someone who has no authority to question it. His assumptions about what a disabled person is "supposed" to look like are outdated and harmful. In this day and age, it's shocking that a business owner would make such ignorant assumptions and confront someone over a legally issued disability placard. And then he walked away with this look on his face that will stick with me for a while. People with invisible disabilities already face enough skepticism without being interrogated by strangers. I hope the owner educates himself about invisible disabilities and treats people with more dignity and respect in the future. No one should have to defend the legitimacy of their disability just because it doesn't fit someone else's stereotype. This is not the first time he has done this, a year ago somebody gave him a review for disability discrimination as well pertaining to the handicap spot that he erroneously believes belongs to him just because it's by his storefront. You should be ashamed. read more

This little independent pet food shop is wonderful. We had been using Chewy because we thought it would be easier for us but our order has been floating around in limbo for over a week and we ran out of cat food. So glad I finally stopped by this place- they stock Weruva, BFF, Tikicat, basically everything we needed. Fair prices and friendly service! Very high quality pet food brands. Easy parking lot too. I love to support small businesses. That being said, I am sorry to say that I had a pretty unpleasant interaction with the business owners. I have been to this store several times with my dog and have gotten food and treats. Today I came in and was just browsing when the owner asked if I was looking for anything. I honestly didn't have anything in mind. Sometimes I just like to browse to see if there's anything that interests me. That's the point of shopping... so I replied that "I'm just looking." He responded begrudgingly under his breath, "This is not a museum." I really did not like this interaction and felt really put off by it. I buy my dog expensive dog food here. It's expensive everywhere, though. The employees are friendly and it's right next door to a good poke place, which is an added bonus. I hate to see a place go downhill like Rock Dog has, but it's my understanding that ownership had changed. I've seen a difference in the quality of service and noticed that the usual staff are no longer there, only two gentlemen who aren't very helpful or friendly. The last two times I went, they were out of my usual stuff so I had to go to another store to get it. From now on I'll just go down the street to Off The Leash (great selection and prices, helpful employees) or Urban Pet (closer to home). read more

This is my favorite local pet store. The staff have been so knowledgeable and kind on every visit. The store may be a bit small, but their inventory is extensive! Lots of great options and reasonable prices. Today, I visited the self-wash, and it was fantastic! For $15, I had free reign of the wash machine for my pup for 20min. My dog is on the smallish end of medium so 20min was more than enough time. I had access to shampoo, conditioner, flea treatment, and dryer. There are only 2 wash stations, but I went on a Tuesday at 5pm and it was just us. The staff member was nice and helpful. So happy I found this place! :) read more

Rock Dog and Cat definitely filled the void not just of this new tinie-tiny strip mall next to 7-eleven but the seemingly hard to find Holistic & quality pet food and pet products in the Eagle Rock area. I have 3 delightful pooches and a canary named "Vino". My corgis Patrick & Paris and my miniature schnauzer Mr. Bertram Von Schnauzer are my pampered spoiled rotten little children - "my preciousness" LOL, I was really thrilled when RD&C opened their doors for business, not only they are close to my shack here in L.A. but they carry a lot of the Holistic pet food that your regular Petco or Petsmart won't carry. They have Holistic Select, Wellness, Diamond to name a few, you could also ask the owner to order the brand you like for your furry baby if it's not available in the store, just make sure you order in advance, this is still a Mom & Pop store so don't expect them to stash all the holistic brands available in the market. But with that kind of option available, I give them a whopping Four paws-up and I'm sure my furry babies would agree!!! I'm not going to lie, when I came in I was a bit of a wreck. We had just decided to adopt a dog and noticed that he was having a hard time chewing hard foods. I brought him into Rock Dog and Cat to look for some soft food for him until we could get him into the vet. I explained the situation to the owner and he was was very no nonsense and marched around the counter to take a peek into the dogs mouth. Right away he noticed his teeth weren't looking too hot and suggested I reach out to the adoption place so they would cover his dental costs as that is something they should have done before adopting him out. He also sent me home with some food samples that my new pup could easily eat without pain. I might have started crying in the store and for that, I'm sorry - super emotional week apparently. Anyways....fast forward to now - our pup had 3 trouble teeth extracted and is happy as a clam now. We ended up continuing to use the food he gave me as a sample because we really liked the ingredients and our dog is stoked about it as well! I love supporting a small and local business and would prefer to go here instead of Petco! The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. I needed a flea treatment (oral meds) for preventative treatment for my pup, and they quickly recommended a spray over an oral medication. I was happy to learn that their recommendation worked and is a much healthier alternative to my dog taking monthly medications for fleas. The "Wondercide" spray has really been working for us these past few months. They also had the grain free puppy food brand I usually purchase from Petco. Great selection in this small store. Even though this place is a bit out of the way for me, I don't mind making the drive (and this is coming from someone who orders everything online) because it's an awesome little shop! The employees here are all extremely friendly and knowledgeable. When I first got my dog she wasn't eating and I was really stressed out. I came here and they loaded me up with a TON of different free samples - and she really ended up loving one of them! They really helped me with the stress of trying to figure out what food to buy her and prevented me from wasting money. My dog is a maltese and he is prone to allergies, finicky eater and he has been licking his paw. I've been here about 3x in one week lol! I'm gonna be fair and honest...please don't take this 3-star review as a bad thing. It's just honest. I went in a few weeks ago looking for cat food for my mom's cats (aka the ones I dropped off for summer vacay in 2011 and never picked back up!). I was looking for 2 specific natural brands, Holistic Select and Lotus - neither is very hard to find and is carried at most pet supply stores including Petco and Centinela. This is a cute little shop, but not a very large selection. They had neither brand, or my back-up brand Merrick. They did have a few other brands, but cats are picky. I didn't want to just get something else and risk the cats not eating it and we're stuck with expensive-ass uneaten cat-food. The shop is also not near me, I just happened to be in the area so going back to possibly return it was out of the question. The owner was SUPER nice, helpful, talked to me about some other options, and even offered to order the brands I was looking for. I opted out, again because I likely wouldn't be back in the shop due to location. I did feel like he had spent so much time with me and was beyond helpful, so I bought one of those feathers on a stick cat toy...I figured, ehhhh spend a few dollars and support the new local shoppe! He's familiar with dog behaviors - which is a huge plus -..he's not the type to just want to immediately coddle and swarm your pets..he understands boundaries. Since I left my original review, they've also introduced us to: - Goat milk for my dog with thyroid and allergy issues - she loves it, and I see a huge difference in her skin and hair. - Raw frozen food in place of the previously freeze-dried food for our dog with bladder issues and now also for our elderly dog (who has heart disease and is slowly declining). Our sweet old guy has severe IBD and can't keep ANYTHING else down anymore. Thank goodness this food worked. Yes, 2 out of 3 dogs are on a raw food diet, because they're fancier than I'll ever be. Whatever it takes for them to be healthy and happy. My dogs all have issues. And this place helps a LOT. Seriously. Almost every suggestion they've made has improved things, and their exchange policy is generous when something doesn't work out. Love them! read more
