Visited before COVID-19 Started bringing my dog to this location for grooming instead of the La Canada site. I like most of the groomers here because they don't try to sell you more stuff and their prices seem to be more reasonable. One of the groomers unfortunately doesn't made suggestions when he should have. I requested a bath for my dog which was fine, but I noticed when I picked my dog up that he seemed to be matted. What my dog should have had was a cut/trim in addition to a bath, but he didn't call me to make that suggestion. I complained to the groomer who released my dog to me. She said that that particular groomer just wants to do what the customer asked for, not do what is best for the dog. I was very disappointed. I ended up having to bring my dog back earlier than anticipated in order to get another bath WITH a cut. Plenty of free parking in a shared lot. read more

If I could give -5 stars, I would. Terrible management and poor service. A group of us (4 people and 4 dogs) arrived at this PETCO today for an outing of Halloween, treats and food shopping. We have large dogs and were using this opportunity to socialize and expose them to a store with people, smells and animals. We do this often and are usually treated respectfully as others seem to appreciate our efforts to have disciplined pets. We found quite the opposite at this Petco location where the manager (who refused to give his name but believe it is Ramon) verbally accosted us and forced us to leave the store even though we were shopping and attempting to purchase a large amount of food and treats. To begin, we usually take things slowly in the stores so that the animals can sniff, get acclimated, in order to proceed calmly. After checking out some of the front displays, two of us stayed at the front of the store near the closed vet checkin while two went a few isles down towards cat treats and food. At no point were any of the dogs misbehaving or acting aggressively towards any patrons or pets. We had received only smiles and waves; making a child's visit as all the dogs downed as they passed by. I say this to show that not only were the dogs not being a hindrance but also to demonstrate that anyone who has been around a dog for more than half a second can clearly see what we are doing. There has never been any confusion from the general public as to what we are doing. Often we are asked if they are service dogs or training for competition but still obvious as to the goal of socialization in public environments. We are not trainers, just pet owners. However, after only a few minutes, the manager Ramon came up to the two of us at the front of the store and said, "What are you doing here?". Though we thought it was painfully obvious of dog owners being in a pet store, we responded with "training the dogs to be in the store and shopp.." but before we could finish the manager cut us off saying "you can't be in here. There is no training in my store. This is my store" when asked why he stated that this is private property and we were not welcome. Only after the third time of us explaining that we were with others shopping did he stop accosting us insinuating that we were somehow trespassing in a place during its business hours. The only thing left to do was for all of us to return our items to the shelves (over a 100 in treats and food) and leave since it was now clear that this was "his store" and he didn't want any customers. Ramon made the situation very awkward and unwelcoming and because of this, there will be no future orders from us and we will not be returning to any PETCO. When we reached out to corporate, they just vaguely hoped we had a great day and that they could gain our trust again without offering any solutions. read more

Can't believe what I witnessed ! Wow!! Horrible customer service. As I was at Vetco. I witnessed an employee ( Hispanic, buzzed cut hair cut) in the morning of 9/5 at 7:59 am (check your schedule. He might even be an over night restock employee) rudely kick out an elderly lady customer who accidentally walked in with a grooming customer. Ask the Vet receptionist, as she also witnessed this. Obviously, she was in her right to believe the store was open. When the gentleman (worker) approached her he began to yell at her telling her " I already fuc***** told you we open later. You need to get out, GET OUT NOW! Learn how to fuc**** listen!" He then escorted her to the door still yelling at her and as he slammed the sliding doors behind her, he called her a Fuc**** Bit**! I speak on the customers behalf because as bystander this behavior should not be allowed nor tolerated at your business. Went here to check out the aquatics department and see what kind of freshwater fish were available as I'm new to the hobby and find all of this really fun and exciting. Was really impressed with the quality of this store at first! But upon finding the fish that I wanted, we (myself and my partner) asked Natalie (the manager on duty) if someone was available to get the fish for us. She looked at both of us (two gay men) and said, "The person who works in this department went home sick." My partner said, "Are you able to get the fish for us?" And she said, "No." My partner said, "So we're just not able to get any fish? I used to work as an aquatics specialist... I could even get them myself." And she said, "No. You'll have to come back some other time." My partner said, "I've never experienced this before. So you're saying that you're refusing to get the fish for us? We're paying customers..." And Natalie looked at us, shrugged her shoulders, and said, "Sorry." And walked away. We both then went to the cashiers and asked to speak to the manager. It was at this point that we were informed that Natalie WAS the manager and that she was the only one in the store, at the time, who was properly qualified to get fish for customers. I used to work customer service. I understand if she was busy and am totally sympathetic! But not once did she say that she was busy or with another customer. She just flat out refused to help us. Her lackadaisical, unfriendly, and (possibly) homophobic attitude turned a positive experience into a negative experience. The only reason I'm not giving one star is due to Melanie and the other cashiers/store associates. They were all so kind to us and apologetic over the entire situation. Unbelievably rude here at this location. It was my first time here and I made an online appointment to arrive at 4:15. I arrived a few minutes late because we drove in traffic about 20 miles. My poor pup is losing some of his fur in the hind quarters. When I arrived the front desk "clerk", told me that I can no longer be seen and that I put down the wrong appointment needs. How would I have any clue about which option I was supposed to choose? They didn't call me or email me after I made the appointment to ask any questions or to make sure because I was a first time client that I chose the right type of appointment. After decades of using the same Fantastic groomer in Burbank I decided it was time to find a groomer in Glendale. It had to be a place I could walk to so I tried a place around the corner from me and my shy and squirrely 5 yo Shih Tzu came home bloody in 3 spots. I next tried Petco and was pleasantly surprised when they reported her to be calm and relaxed during her grooming. She was clean, cute and happy when I picked her up. I have had 2 different groomers both did a great job and both times my pup seemed fine and un-traumatized. I would definitely recommend Petco as booking is easy online or with a call. All the groomers seem very gentle and sweet. They do all the necessary services in a full grooming including brushing teeth for a very price. read more

Apologize to all other dependents - my review is about the grooming service. Took my mix poodle about 3 weeks ago- first time and the groomer - Mike- seemed nice and knowledgeable. I paid the regular price plus extra for de shedding - explained that I want a poodle cut and ( I even apologized that my dog sleeps on his back and hard to comb and it is ok if he stays matted. I want everything else trimmed). He even commented that he is not bad and he can comb his hair). I get my dog in a good reasonable 3 hour time- I have to rash back to work- I tip him $20 dollars- my total pay is $110 I bring my puppy home After work tired. The next day I look at my puppy and I am stunt. So stunt that I was really going to go back to Petco and ask Mike what and why did he do this to my dog. But became it was before Easter and I was in lent I did not go to Petco and decided to le it go. But the more I looked at my dog the more I wanted to save other dog to be mistreated like this. So I called the customer service- a nice girl- o asked to speak with a supervisor but nobody was available. I have explained to tue customer service what happened and she asked for Petco location, the day of service, the groomer's name and asked pictures to be sent to her email- which she received and was stunt by seeing " the groom job". 10 plus days passed- still waiting for that supervisor. So I did everything I could to not to write a bad review but Petco- I buy so much from you and you treat my pet this way and no even call and see what has happened??? The order was placed to take advantage of the 25% off $150 but the remaining items were not honored at that promotion. The new discount was only 10%!!! If I could give a 0 star JUST for their management, specifically the manger named "Penny". We've been Petco customers for almost 10 years; dogs, birds, fish, turtles. You name it. & if you're familiar with Petco you know they're not cheap. So we've spent thousands of dollars. Today we purchased two crates for our new dogs. $106.99 for a 22' inch new (or so we thought) crate. NO WHERE does it say it's used, partially used, return, anything. In California you MUST state if the item is being sold as new or used or even just slightly used. It was tucked in with other crates at the same price. We picked up (2). One was brand new, one was used - HOWEVER both had tape on there, in response to when she said "why would you purchase it if it looks like the tape is covering the box". They all had tape. We came home, opened the crate about 30 minutes after we left the store. The crate had dog hair, scratches & what seems like dried up drool everywhere. No big deal right? Well yes, big deal. If you're knowledgable with pets & pet hygiene, you would know it's super common for dogs to spread diseases. Especially to puppies. So this used (but advertised as new) crate wouldn't work for us. We kindly called the store to see what can be done prior to us driving all the way back. The manager picked up the phone - Penny - from the moment we mentioned the issue, we were cut off multiple times with her rushing to get off the phone AND.... I quote exactly what she said.. "I'm familiar with Armenians and the fraud they commit....(...)" "I used to work at a gun store I know Armenians and how they are...." "How do I know you didn't open it and use it.." "Well what do you expect me to do...." Racist. Stereotypical. Working in Glendale, with customers in one of the busiest shopping centers... come on. Yes we know Glendale's population is largely Armenian & yes I am Armenian. Does that mean anything? No. Avoid this store at all costs. I've given them chances in the past, but besides horrible & racist management, the store is not up-kept, there's urine everywhere, the management constantly yells at customers PLUS their employees! & is too busy petting other people's pets instead of focusing on bettering their service. I always come to Petco to care for my pets because it's the only pet store around me that carries multiple options of supplies but I am very disappointed and dissatisfied with the small animal manager. I was going to purchase a little Syrian hamster and the manager literally unprofessionally chased after the hamster to grab it, and then dumped the hamster into a box. They told me that they recommend the Living Things Habitat for hamster which is very popular but too small for a hamster. The manager was forcing me to purchase that habitat but I knew better and declined. The groomers are not good at Petco either. They cut my dogs nerve in her toe nail and tried to hide it while I was paying . They shoved my dog out of the gate and let me go. I am very dissatisfied and don't recommend it to anyone else. I do some occasional pet supply shopping here (food, treats, bags) but after moving to Glendale, it's been my spot for grooming - baths and haircuts. Nicole the manager runs an excellent shop, and I've noticed very little turnover here, compared to my old Petco groomers in Pasadena which had constant turnover. I must give major accolades to Bree, she's an absolute joy and an excellent groomer. My dog is pretty easy, but he's always comfortable and happy in her care. She's always done ahead of schedule, asks the right questions ahead of time, gives a report at the end, and does an all around stellar job. Plus my little guy always comes out looking dapper in a free bowtie or bandana! Appointments can be made over the phone. I usually get through a lot faster than at the Pasadena location. There was a 2-plus week wait when they first reopened, but generally you can be seen within a day or two, depending on your groomer of choice. Check-in and check-out are both quite easy. Just fill out the emergency form upon arrival, and take your receipt to a cashier upon pick-up. During the height of the pandemic, they had outdoor check-in for grooming, which could be a little tricky to attract attention, but last time I went in they had gone back to indoor check-in. The one flaw here can be communication. Sometimes you think you are asking for one thing, but are actually asking for something more expensive and the staff doesn't mention it. So if prices are important for you, just be super clear and ask all those questions up front so you're not surprised when you get the bill. The store is nice and clean so thumbs up for shopping here, and if you need an awesome dog groomer, Bree is your girl. Be sure to tip! read more

I only come to this Petco when I'm in a pinch. They do not sell live feeder rats. They only sell live feeder mice, and at relatively expensive prices. A small mouse here cost me about $7. For that price, you can get a small rat at other pet stores. A small mouse of this size should have cost only $3. Aside from the high prices, the customer service and store layout is confusing and inefficient. I walked around the entire store and couldn't find a person or place to order feeder items, so I went to the front register for help. A female cashier charged me and placed my order over her walkie talkie, and I stood waiting by the register for another 5 minutes until another associate finally came out from the back with my items. Very disappointing experience after years of coming to this location . This review is specifically for Grooming Department working at Glendale location on Monday, February 26 between 8:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and NOT for the store as a whole The customer service of one of the groomers (a woman at the counter, around 830) was terrible. I walked in- on time, and politely greeted her "hi, how are you" and she barely acknowledged me, and did not acknowledge my dog, which was just unprofessional. She was kind to the gentleman that walked in behind me as I believe she was the groomer for that dog but it would've been nice to receive the same treatment. There was a nice gentleman that came behind her that helped me out eventually. My groomer was over 15 minutes late - iced coffee in hand - with what barely qualifies as an apology. They just did not seem to care about my dog at all. I've been coming here for years but my normal groomer no longer works at the location. I guess if they know your dog they may be kind and professional but if not it seems like they don't try very hard. I highly recommend training at this location on customer service, and kindness in general. It was a very unfortunate experience that left me feeling very uneasy about trusting them with my dog. Review for Puppy Classes with Katie Only! I would not recommend spending your money on puppy classes with Katie at Petco. My puppy has learned "sit," "down," "speak," etc. at home with me and hasn't learned much with Katie. Pros of the class: puppy socialization time. Your puppy has the opportunity to play with other dogs within the tiny training area. Most of your training "session" will just be watching the dogs play with each other. Puppy does get tired out so that's another pro. Parking is plenty. There are seats inside the tiny training area to sit on but not a lot so don't bring your whole family or children. Katie does love dogs and communicates with them well. Cons of the class: Katie is very friendly but I wouldn't recommend her as a trainer. She spends almost the entire training session telling stories about herself and her family and pets instead of training. What she knows about dogs seems like just having raised them rather than professional training. Sometimes her previous class will go way over the hour and we, the next session, are left waiting and will even be let out early. Our time and money is not respected. We only learn about one command per session but only spend about five minutes actually practicing it because then you have to wait for the other puppies to practice it and then Katie gets distracted and starts telling stories again. You have to bring your own treats, water, and poop bags! There's little seating and it's within a tiny area within Petco so don't bring your whole family. Overall, these classes were a huge waste of money and we feel so scammed that we spent so much just to bring our dog to socialize with other dogs. We could do that for free at the dog park. Whenever Katie gives any insight into dog behavior, it's nothing we haven't already read online. read more

Love this place! I come here with my dog for their classes. We have taken puppy 1, puppy 2, and now are enrolled with the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class with Patrick, who is fantastic. Everyone in the store is really friendly. If you have a puppy, ask one of the staff members if there are any coupons. They have a booklet with lots of good deals on food, treats, beds, and collars! Pros: -Free puppy socialization classes. Saturday they have a playtime for small dogs and Sundays they have a playtime for big dogs. Be sure to bring your paperwork to show that your pup is up to date on their shots. -Their classes are fantastic. I recommend taking a class from Patrick. It's positive reinforcement training. -they have a restroom for customers in the store in the right hand side. I've managed and hired a lot of staff in the past decade. Someone that present and aware is usually a great asset to a business. Great vibes. Keep it up. I spend about $300 a month every month on litter, treats, supplies and large amounts of wet food for my two cats and only at Petco because you guys are a lot higher vibe than Petsmart.
