Today I went to this Petco store looking for a surgery recovery sleeve or something like that for my dog, who cut himself from running. He's been licking the area, and it's not healing well. I first stepped into the veterinary side and explained the situation, simply asking if they had a sleeve available for purchase. The woman I spoke with told me she couldn't recommend anything without seeing my dog. I repeated that I wasn't asking for medical advice--but if they had something to cover the cut. She kept saying the same thing. She was extremely unhelpful. I then asked an employee at the checkout, but it felt like no one at this Petco had any interest in assisting customers at all. I ended up buying some bandage tape and an XL plastic cone. When I asked about getting a cone in better condition, the one I picked up was scrtached, the same employee told me the scratches were "probably from shipping" and didn't offer to help find a better one. The only reason I stopped here was because I happened to be in the same shopping plaza, but I've always preferred PetSmart--and this visit reminded me why. Not only are Petco's prices consistently $1-2 higher on many items, but the customer service here was seriously lacking. People forget that when one receives a kind and sincerely service, in return they will win a customer. I didn't even get the intent to help me with this minor situation. They didn't even care about my dog. But hold on .. these are people who pretend to like animals!!! I'm confused. read more

I have a special needs dog, blind, diabetes, tumor in his pancreas, who is uncomfortable away from me for long periods of time. When I started going to this Petco years ago Jess, grooming manager at the time, understood the issue and would perform his grooming within an hour for me. She was awesome. All of a sudden she is no longer there. The new guy (sorry, didn't get his name) rudely said today that even though I had a 12:00 appointment I would have to wait three to four hours to pick him up because he was busy with several dogs and the fact that my dog is special needs doesn't make a difference.... It feels really unfortunate and ironic to be writing this review. Just the today, I was at the North Decatur Petco raving about how great their customer service was compared to my usual neighborhood store here at the Blue Diamond location. I come here at least twice a week. Some team members -- like the manager with glasses and another associate who also wears glasses -- always recognize me, wave, and know me as "the guy with all the tarantulas." I really appreciate the service I get from them. But the majority of the team is a different story. Tonight, I experienced the worst example of it at checkout with Martha. I came in to pick up more crickets for feeding, and before I could even get my request out, she said: "If there's nothing bagged up on the shelf, we're all out. You'll have to go somewhere else." She didn't even make eye contact, and she said it as if I was wasting her time. The manager -- standing within earshot -- immediately corrected her, pointing out that they had received a shipment just the day before and had plenty of crickets. Martha's response? She admitted she just didn't want to go get them and that this is what "other teammates would've said" if they didn't want to either. The manager personally got my 80 crickets, which I appreciate, but I was left speechless at the whole exchange. To hear an employee openly admit she'd rather lie to a customer than provide basic service -- right in front of her manager -- was shocking and discouraging. I understand it was an hour before closing, but that doesn't excuse this behavior. As a regular customer who spends money here multiple times a week, this kind of service is unacceptable. Don't take your dog to this Petco for grooming, because you have no idea how rude and careless they are when giving a bath to your dog. I scheduled a dog grooming with upgraded shampoo at this Petco. Now my dog's left ear is still bleeding, and both ears are all red. Besides that, he is still so dirty, which I showed the staff when I picked him up. I even doubt if they used any shampoo since I can't smell anything, not even a little bit. I don't know what I paid for. (Maybe they are sensitive, the photos of bleeding and all red ears are deleted by the system.) My dog is 5 and a half years old, it's not his first bath obviously and this has never happened before when I took him to PetSmart. Instead of having to pay to visit the Mandalay Bay Aquarium, this place was free99 and just enough entertainment for my 3 year old son. He was able to see cats, fish, turtles and snakes. It's actually located near Valley View and Blue Diamond Road. In reality, this is my back up Pet store location. My regular location was out of our specific cat food, so I had to drive a bit out of the way to come here and stock up. I like this place. The store is well stocked and easy to navigate. I really enjoyed the fact that even the food cans were "faced" and everything was clean. The cashier today was incredibly nice and helpful. I didn't catch her name, but she was great. Had an absolutely terrible grooming experience here. I had booked an appointment a week in advance, provided all of the information about my dog and brought the required rabies vaccine record day of. The groomer, Roman M, asked how old my dog was. We told him 6 months old to which he didn't say anything, took him back and asked us to remove his collar. He said our dog would be ready closer to 5:30. About an hour or so later, we get a call from Roman stating that our dog was "too scared" and that "he bathed the dog but he won't be able to cut his hair as to not traumatize him." I try calling Roman back because the call was rushed and I didn't get the chance to understand the situation in full two minutes later, to which we never received a call back. We show up to the store, Roman is nowhere to be found because he had to "run at 5:30" and we're greeted by the rude manager, Beth. I try to explain that our dog has been groomed twice before and that we received absolutely no forewarning, and Roman never asked about our dog's temperament or explain the situation at all. Beth cut me off multiple times and dismissed me, and essentially told me to deal with it because I "wasn't getting charged." Roman in his notes mentioned that he was "able to coax [our] dog into allowing clippers for a trim." Our dog's face, paws and behind was slightly cleaned up but the hairs on top of his head were erratically trimmed and uneven. Overall, horrible communication and lazy job. Our dog can get anxious as he is a puppy yes, but the groomers at another pet store there didn't operate in this matter. We don't come here often, but on our last visit, we were able to find our pet supplies quickly. I browsed the sections for the best treats for our pets. Reptiles seem to be in the middle of the store. Our son loves to check out all the fish and other animals in the store. Hubby had questions for the clerk and was able to get a better idea, so that was helpful. This is a small location compared to the Rainbow/ Spring Mountain location. Or maybe it seems more compact, the other location seems to be spread apart, more if that makes any sense. read more

I sometimes take my mini schnauzer here to be groomed. In the past, I was scheduled with Jess. And Jess did a good job grooming my dog. This time I got Ashley. Horrible job! She shaved everything including the paws! I asked for the bumbum area to be shaved so that it's clean. And chose a shorter trim for the body with a short skirt. I paid over $100 +tip for a job I could've done. On top of that, I did not receive a phone call that my dog was ready for pick up. I called and they said, they left a message. I feel like they do a pretty good job but I definitely wouldn't recommend it as an exceptional place to get your animals groomed. I would give it like a 6 out of 10. Also I have a bit of a gripe with this place because they've had to cancel appointments with me last minute because apparently my little 10 pound dog is too feisty for some of their groomers and only one of the groomers is willing to work with her. Went to the Blue Diamond location yesterday to pick up some zeolite crystals. Prior to walking in, I checked their website and it said in stock and available for pickup. Great! My bf and I were walking around looking for the item amongst the aquarium supplies when a petite, blonde sales associate with glasses I (she didn't have a name tag on) approached us and offered to help. Once I told her what we were looking for, it was obvious she has no idea what the item was. Maybe she's new? Idk. She walked us around the same areas we had already checked until she finally told us she'd check w her manager. I watched her walk away towards the side of the registers and talk w I guess her manager. She was there for all of maybe 2 minutes. I didn't see either of them look up the item on the computer. I waited for her to return by walking around the same exact area only to find her walking towards me then helped another family. ??????? Okay??? Wow, now THAT is not how you give stellar customer service, boys and girls. Far from it! I must've been completely invisible to her at this point, cause seriously... what? While scooping up fish, I asked her what she and her manager found out about the product she was previously helping me out with. She told me that "it must be out of stock" if it's not on the shelf. Huh.... Really now. I guess the online inventory must be incorrect then? Well, guess what. My bf who has continued to keep looking while I waited for the sales associate to ask her manager then ignore me completely had found the item we were looking for on a shelf facing AWAY from the aquariums but still in the same area. Had she not offered her "help," which ultimately became more of a distraction and time waster more than anything, we would've probably found the item much quicker. Petco, please train your employees correctly on items sold in their assigned departments and most importantly, train your employees to follow up w customers they had previously committed to assisting. read more

We went into Petco the other night they had a really good sale if you belong to their pet club which is free, you would save 50% on some items and they had deals throughout the store. We found a few items I wanted to buy. We asked a question to a young guy putting cages together he was very polite and nice telling us how much the item was. So we proceeded to the register where a woman was working she cashed us out and there was a little sweater for a dog that had no price tag and actually had a few spots that looked like the stitching was coming apart. She said I can give you 10% off, REALLY? Wow what a savings! She takes it back and said she will bring it home and let her Mother sew it! Would it not then be considered USED???? And she said she did this all the time!! Really? When does a store let employees take merchandise home to get fixed? We thought that was odd. So we proceeded to cash out and as we were walking out we were thinking it came up to too much because we bought some bulk treats that were suppose to be half off along with some other items. They were on sale 50% off but we were charged full price, So we went back in and the lady who cashed us out was not at the register we and we only seen the girl who was on the first register who was away from the register and not ringing the customer up. We asked her if the receipt was correct. We just did not know how to read the receipt if she charged us right, She says in a REAL snotty voice "YES IT LOOKS RIGHT DO YOU MIND IF I FINISH WITH THIS CUSTOMER?" And walks away and goes back to the register instead of saying let me get the one who just waited on you. NO we had to go FIND her! I asked her, her name which was Tiffany ~ because I was MAD my blood was boiling we just got over charged and your telling me it is correct then your gonna act snotty to me?? I thought to myself I wonder who is ahead of all of these workers to allow her to talk to customers like this??? I went over to the little office door which was open and she was inside. We asked her to look at the receipt and it was WRONG! So I said to her " I just wanted you to know your cashier was real snotty just now to us" Her reply was "Oh I am sorry" I was like " That don't matter I will just make sure she gets a write up about it," She says "Well I am the manager" in this voice that was not too pleasant, Kinda snotty. Most managers would be like what happened. Oh I will take care of it, thanks for letting me know. Almost as if it was a non caring way she acted and never said any of that, So I take it that she does not care how customers are treated or if they go back! So with this being said it is a shame to be over charged then to be treated like your a piece of whatever! Anyway we were correct, we were over charged and she said she had rang some up before and it was correct, well then why didn't ours ring up right? The animals I walked by whoever did take care of them the cages of the ones I took pictures of were clean and very nice. Would we go back? Hmmmm I don't think to this location. Layout is imperative to a decent shopping trip. The layout of this store has a rotunda like aquatic section with aisles radiating off of the back. After my bad experiences with PetSmart over on this side, I stopped in here for an 18" 15 watt bulb for my fish tank. Nobody was to be found whatsoever that could help me find what I was looking for. After walking round and round and round again, I could only find the extremely fancy bulbs for lizards and salt water tanks. My sister grabbed the cashier and she took me right back over to where the fancy lights were and said they didn't have any of the generics (that are available in Henderson) in stock. She said that some of the bulbs would be fine for goldfish, but I don't think a 10,000 island rays sunshine bulb (or whatever they had on the package) would be appropriate for cold water carp (goldfish.) I found a bulb and I asked to open it to make sure it wasn't broken. It was. I ended up buying the tamest looking bulb that wasn't broken, which happened to be a color enhancing bulb... For $17! Ugh! It gives off the weirdest yellowish tinge that I hate, but I had no other options. If layout, selection and price were better, and sales people easier to locate, I'd up the stars. read more

the groomer was nice until he caused my dog to have "clipper alopecia" which means shaving to the SKIN leaving no fur to the point that it burns it, leaves damage and fur never grows back in that area. will be taking him to vet on Sunday. i'm not a confrontational person - but this location should really be careful - someone else could easily sue for this. read more

Today was the second time I took both my dogs in to be groomed. The first experience went well, so I decided to try again. I picked up my dogs and they both seemed okay. The employee who checked me out didn't say anything otherwise so I thought everything went fine. But when I got home and was petting one of their tummies, I saw some cuts and red marks.
