The only reason I keep coming back is because of the coustumer service james gives (everyone) I have to say I was very surprised this time I came back to get saltwater fish because he wasn't there and there was an older brown haired man who was the opposite I stood there waiting for service and he didn't even greet me, and From what I heard he is supposed to be an "expert". Although my dog puts his paws down as we get close because he hates going to the groomer, I always take him to Petco for grooming. I've had other places I've taken him that are super overpriced or they have him the entire day and finally found a place we like. I try to only schedule him with Vanessa because other times we tried other groomers there, my dog comes back with uneven hair cuts or things not done, like his nails still not cut, etc even though I pay for the full groom with the pick 3 spa package. It is definitely not cheap but it is better priced than other places I've tried for the same level of services provided. Generally I have always gotten him back after 2-4 hours and he smells wonderful and looks adorable. read more

Made an appointment with the Vetco Clinic at this store for today at 6:15. Arrived at 6:00 p.m. and checked in with the girl inside. She asked if I would wait in the car until my appointment and she would call me when they were ready for me. I sat in the parking garage for 45 minutes and was never seen. The clinic closed and by the time I went upstairs they were all gone. While I do not blame the store, Vetco is part of Petco and it was this location that I was forgotten about. I can think of a million other things I could have done with my 45 minutes than sit in a parking garage only to be forgotten. Thanks for nothing Vetco. RUDE, ARROGANT AND DISRESPECTFUL. I've been using the same Petco grooming service for two years. Never one complaint abut the cuts for my dog. They have the cut number in the computer, I drop him off and pick him up later. I've had the EXACT same experience at different Petcos AROUND THE COUNTRY. Today, when I brought my dog in, I mentioned the tail was a little sort last time. That's all. The associate began to ask me a list of questions regarding every aspect of how I wanted my dog groomed. I could not reasonably answer ANY of the questions, since I was NEVER asked them before, ANYWHERE. As I expressed my concern to the associate he insisted he was required to ask these questions, so that I don't complain after the grooming. I assured him I had no issue to complain about, but I was frustrated about these questions, for which I had no informed answer. He suggested I consider GOING ELSEWHERE. I asked to speak with the manager but only the assistant manager came. I expressed my frustration and concerns for which the assistant manager's response was that I should put a review on YELP. NO suggestion as to some in-house remedy. Let's be clear. I am not complaining about Petco's general demeanor and performance. Just the associate's arrogant, rude, condescending behavior and the assistant manager's unwillingness to address the matter directly. No one should be treated disrespectfully. read more

I haven't been here in awhile and was in the neighborhood. I decided to stop in to grab my babies food. First off, I walked in and seen how clean it was since the last time I had been. I was greeted right away from the cashier. As I was doing my shopping I was approached my store manager Darryl. He offered assistance and asked about my furbaby! (That has never happen before here) He told me about the specials they have going on and if I needed any additional help I just have to ask. I was taken back because I was never even greeted last time I came in. I'm posting this because something so simple like a hello or may I help you? First let me start off by saying my first job was at a pet store and I worked there for over 2 years so I know about customer service. I went into this Petco today to get a replacement lamp and UVA lightbulb for my turtle, simple right? Well I wound up waiting for almost 20 minutes for someone to help me until finally an employee came up to me and asked if I needed help, after I complained about how long I had been waiting the employee used the excuse that they were "understaffed today." While I can relate to what that's like that's no excuse to have a customer wait for almost 20 minutes just to get help, the store wasn't even crowded there was no reason why an employee couldn't have helped me sooner. Another thing that ticked me off was that I found an employee in the dog food section before I was finally helped and asked her if I could get some help in the aquatics section and she told me "sorry I can't help you" and instead of getting another employee to help me she kept working away. That is completely unacceptable and is horrible customer service. If you can definitely avoid going to this Petco, the staff are awful and don't know a thing about customer service. read more

We enrolled our dog for the beginner level training at Petco Westwood. Unfortunately it was a very bad experience and we ended up wasting money and time for no real value. We don't believe the person in charge of the training is an actual dog trainer; she works at the cashier and we think they gave her this side gig which could save them money but is very disappointing for clients. We stopped coming after the first 3 sessions as we found there was no actual content in the class! We were warned that at Petco you might not get good trainers and it depends on your luck. I guess we were unlucky. Currently training our dog at a legit program and wish we started there instead of putting our time and money in the wrong place. read more

Came here because I was evacuated this morning due to the skirball fire and everyone in the store especially Darryl the store manager was super nice. I was looking for the disposable cat litter trays which they ran out of when Darryl said he'd give me the cat litter for free if I just bought a new cat litter box. I was fully expecting to be ripped off, but to actually have someone be compassionate on such a stressful day is a blessing. My day was totally ruined by this store grooming department. I called on Monday, 8/6 to make an appointment to get the dog groomed. So the guy on the phone, Luis (Louis?) suggested Wednesday at 3:00pm, to which I agreed. He then proceeded to lecture me on not being late because they needed time to wash the dog, blow dry, and blah, blah, blah. I thought it odd that he would assume a customer would be late without knowing the customer, or without the customer having a 'lateness' history. But whatever, I didn't want to argue with him and told him I could make it at 2:30pm, if he preferred. I got there at the appointed time, only to find out that the grooming dept was closed--as a matter of fact, it was closed Tuesday and Wednesday. So the guy I spoke with, supposedly Louis' manager, told me very UNAPOLOGETIC ALLY, that he could give me another appointment for the next day. So I said, "that's it? No apologies, no nothing? I left work 2 hours earlier for this". He said, "sorry, I'll give you a discount." I just left the store flabbergasted. Like a discount could just solve everything that went wrong, without a sincere "we are terribly sorry about this. I'll do my best to try to make this right" This manager had no customer service skills whatsoever. And as for this Louis person, he does not deserve to have a job. Even at Petco's. read more

I like this Petco because they have a big parking lot to go along with their big store. They have a large selection of different pet food brands and lots of pet toys and accessories. The thing about Petco is that their prices are a little high, but they have everything you could ever need. If you need a specialty brand food though, like one recommended for a specific ailment, they won't have it. I learned this the hard way, but it's not that Petco doesn't carry it. It's that the veterinarian recommended stuff can only be sold at vet's. Anyway, for everything else, I come to Petco. read more

This is the only Petco where the employees need to get credit for being friendly and helpful. My dog (Bichon Frise) had a skin allergy and kept biting his legs and paws. We thought he got allergic from the weather or grass outside the house and i never thought it would be from the food because i really watch whatever go to his mouth. Today, i came here and got confused which allergy medication was good for my dog and suddenly a female employee named Norene offered me a help to pick the medication and she asked me what kind of food i feed my dog. She told me some dogs are actually allergic to chicken and i just realized that my dog started to get skin problem since i changed the flavor for my dog food from red meat to chicken (still the same brand Blue Buffalo). I never thought chicken could cause an allergy to dog. Norene also helped me to find best medicated dog shampoo. When i checked out, the male cashier was super nice. I would give a zero if I could to THE GROOMING DEPARTMENT! Two separate times, I called to book a bath AND cut for my golden and both times they told me I was only booked for a bath, with no time for a cut. This time, I was mad and the groomer said the employee was new, as if that was an excuse, and completely unapologetic. She was as rude as they come! I was VERY specific about what kind of appt I wanted.The groomer was SO rude and told me she would NOT bathe my dog.... to punish me for the miscommunication, I guess! I will never go back there again, for grooming, food, toys etc..... Too many great places with nice people and customer service. read more

I went to Petco on a Monday at 12:30pm. I wanted some shrimp and a fish. I asked a guy to help me, and he looked lost, but tried to help me. He tried to scoop out the fish with the plastic container instead of using the net. I suggested he try using the net. He got an oversized net and tried with that, but did not put water in the plastic container. I informed him that there needs to be water in the container since that's where he's going to put the fish after he scoops it out with the net. He apologized and said it was his first week, then proceeded to the faucet to put tap water in the container. I said no, it needs to be aquarium water. At this point, I suggested that he go get someone else to help him with the fish. He said there's no on else. "NO ONE ELSE?!?" Then he mumbled about another lady but she wouldn't know either. THERE'S LITERALLY 2 PEOPLE WORKING IN THE ENTIRE STORE! There were about 5-6 customers in the store. So now, the fish is in the bag, and he tries to tie the bag off by tying a knot with the bag itself. I said, no, you need to use a rubber band, and you need to put air in the bag so the fish can breathe. He couldn't figure out how to do it. So I did it myself. Now comes the shrimp. He tried and tried, then I suggested that I do it myself. So he gives me the net, and walks away without really saying anything. Now we're at the register, he's the only one around, the other lady walked outside ignoring all 3 of us standing in line at the register. I had to call him over to the register to help us. He didn't know how to ring up the fish and the shrimp properly. The other lady that worked that came back but started to walk away as if she didn't see us. I called to her to help the other customers, then she acknowledged us and came over to help. Neither one of the 2 employees smiled, or said hi, or even acknowledged us unless we called out to them. The 1 guy that tried to help me had no idea what he was doing, and he said that the other lady wouldn't be able to help either. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON at this store?!?! Went here today to have my dog get a thorough bath after a camping trip. Told the groomers he had sap on him and in his paws. Got home and he still had the sap in his paws and a huge clump of it on his stomach. Called the manager and he just kept saying okay. Won't be going here again. read more

********REVIEW FOR DOG GROOMING******* **The reason I am writing this review is with the hopes that no one has to go through what my dog did today or experience the poor service that I did as an owner. Please stay away from this Petco for grooming and all Petcos for that matter. It is clear to me after today that Petco does not hire employees that care about animals which leads me to believe that Petco does not care about animals as an organization. I dropped my small dog off at 9am for a scheduled grooming appointment. When I arrived they had no record of my appointment (a general manager from another Petco doggie daycare handled the reservation for me as a curtesy to rectify a situation that happened at their facility). The groomer told me they could squeeze my dog in and he would be done at 1:30pm. This was a lie. After battling LA traffic, I arrived at Petco to demand to speak with a manager and take my dog home. It was 4pm when I arrived...they had him on the table and were still working on cutting his hair. It was 4:30pm after I had yelled at the manager and my dog was finished. That means he was there for almost 8hours?! They told me that they had just started on him "a couple of hours ago" meaning that he was in his crate waiting to get groomed for over 6 HOURS?! Petco regulations mandate that groomers cannot take dogs outside to go to the bathroom due to liabilities. So my poor dog was locked up in a crate while the groomer groomed her other appointments and "squeezed him in" 6 hours later. This is horrendous. She should have common sense to look at her appointment book and say "no, my schedule is full and I'm the only groomer here so I can't take your dog today. sorry there was a miscommunication with the managers about your appointment, but I can't take him today." That would have been the proper training and ethical thing to do knowing that my poor dog would go without food, water and sit in his crate for 6hrs and left to poop and pee in his crate. When I spoke to the manager about this terrible treatment of my dog and asked about my reservation she lied to my face first saying "there was no reservation, you were just supposed to drop your dog off in the afternoon" to changing her story and saying that she took down the reservation and left it on a piece of paper in the groomers room, but they must have missed it. Either way, regardless of the reservation I told her that the groomers need to be trained to manage their schedule so that dogs are not left in crates for hours on end! To which she said,"they are supposed to take as many dogs as they can" aka it's all about the money for Petco. A good groomer (and I would know, my sister is a groomer with her own practice in MN) takes on only what they can manage so that dogs are NOT sitting in crates all day left to poop and pee in their cages. She says no to walk-ins for just this reason. After this experience I will never patronage a Petco ever ever again. They do not respect animals and see them only as money. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

I far prefer the Petco in Santa Monica. It is much cleaner, and has a full and competent staff unlike this one on Westwood Blvd. While I do not have a dog (I shop here for my cats), I always stop and watch the groomers with the dogs. EVERY time I observe them they are handling the dogs roughly. They DON'T talk to them to soothe them or comfort them, as the wet dog stands there shaking from cold and fear. Sometimes because the groomers are paying almost no attention to the dogs while they chat back and forth with each other, they nic the dog; it yelps and they continue on without comforting the dog. If I had witnessed this just once, I wouldn't say anything, but it is literally EVERY time I go there. Dog owners, do NOT have your dags groomed here unless you stay and watch! read more

DO NOT purchase any saltwater invertebrates or fish from this store. The conditions are horrible and the staff have little to no knowledge about what they are doing and the animals they are caring for. They leave dead fish in the tanks, the fish are all diseased if not yet dead, and they do not know how to species seperate (fish are killing fish and fighting). The names of a majority of the fish and corals are even wrong, and the employes cant tell the difference between right and left when it comes to telling you what kind of fish is in the tank and their behavior etc. Long story short, the purchase and introduction of some of their invertebrates to my tank (snails) has resulted in the decimation of my 65 gallon tank and all of its 4 to 5 year old inhabitants. I am absolutely apalled with Petco Animal Supplies and heed warning to anyone thinking about stepping foot into this location, or any other for that matter. read more

I rescued a dog from the shelter and took him directly to Petco for grooming. His hair was really matted, so it knew it was going to be a tough job. When I went to pick him up, they told me they cut him with the clippers because of his matted hair and stopped. No bath or anything. I would have been more understanding had they have called me right away. Instead I waited 2 hours and still had to give him a bath when I got home, and make an appointment elsewhere for the next day. read more

Anti-customer service. I gave them two stars because I'm not completely heartless and have worked in a retail/customer service environment before, but this was literally such a wack experience. I came late morning on a Thursday.. not busy at all.. i noticed maybe 3 employees on shift and one busy grooming a dog. I took it upon myself to look for a particular dog food and when I couldn't find it i asked for help. The first associate i saw was unpacking dog toys and she told me they didn't carry that brand, so i asked to be referred to a similar one and she told me she doesn't know and that i can wait for her co-worker to come back from the bathroom who might know better.. okaaayyy fine. I took my daughter to look at the fish while we waited. I noticed another employee in the room by the fish, cleaning a bucket, and assumed he was busy so i left him alone. There were a few small children there looking at the fish and other animals (i guess its cheaper than visiting the zoo lol). He came out of the room looking rather annoyed by their presence (not sure why, they were just looking around) and FINALLY asked if anybody needed help, but he made sure to let us know that he doesn't know much about the fish. So not only did you assume we all need help with fish but it sounds like you don't want to help at all. I told him i needed help with dog food and he said something unintelligible and went back to cleaning his bucket. WHAT?? I'm sorry, but unpacking dog toys and cleaning a bucket is lower on my list than making a sale or helping a customer. I don't expect them all to be experts on everything pet related, but if i were them I'd make sure that the customer feels like I'm at least trying to find someone who can help. Not only is that just customer service 101, but then I'd have an opportunity to LISTEN and learn from someone who does know what they're talking about, so i can help future customers with similar questions. Eventually the first woman i spoke with came back to help me and i left with some dog food. What a moody work environment. I could understand if they were super busy and stretched thin, but this did not appear to be the case. The friendliest person was the woman who checked me out (according to the receipt her name was Alicia). Too bad she wasn't around the whole time i was there. Not sure if this is a management issue or what, but these folks need some guidance and standards. To be honest I wouldn't feel so compelled to post this if the attitudes of the employees were even a shade friendlier. I really wanted this post to be a constructive critique rather than a scathing review. if who ever replies to this can give me more than a "we don't train people to be rude, sorry you had a bad experience hope to see you again soon!" I have gone to this Petco for a number of different things, and in fact its the only Petco I go to in Los Angeles. There customer service is wonderful and the staff is very knowledgebale. I have taken both of my dogs to get groomed here a number of times and have always been happy with the results. I recently decided to start my first fish tank. All the staff working in aquatics was very nice. One of the managers, Colton was extremely helpful and was able to answer any questions I had (which were a lot!). They have a great collection of fish (both saltwater and freshwater) to choose from. Colton first set me up with a 40 gal tank and then a week later helped me choose the right fish to put in the tank. It was a long process, but the staff was very patient with me and made sure I was 100% happy and confident in my purchase. I definetly reccomend checking out this Petco. The staff is great, and the store is clean...plus THEY HAVE PARKING! :) read more

After reading so many bad reviews on this Petco Store, I was weary. However, a good friend of mine swore by the groomer, Marisol, so I thought I'd give her a try. I have had 2 experiences at this Petco. Both were different, yet neither were positive. The 2nd wsa the most pervasive, but I feel the need to mention both. For the positive: They have ample underground parking. Great pro for this area! For the negatives: 1. I took my dog there at Christmas time for a "photo with Santa." I found the experience to be DULL and lifeless. The "Santa" was a young, 20-year old guy who had no expression, didn't know how to handle dogs, and CLEARLY DIDN'T WANT TO BE THERE. He barely held up my 5lb dog. He almost DROPPED HER! I WAS SOOOO DISAPPOINTED in this experience. If the money hadn't been a donation for charity, I would have demanded it back. Total waste of money! Totally uncomfortable. 2. About 5 weeks later, I made an appointment for grooming with Marisol. The appt. was for 11:30am. I arrived at 11:34am and was told that Marisol just left for lunch but that I could leave my dog there for when she returned (in 30 mins). I explained that this was our first time here and that I am very specific about what type of groom I want (my dog is long-haired) so I wanted to speak to her in person. FURTHERMORE, I was NOT going to leave my dog in a cage for 30 minutes more than necessary just because the groomer decided to go to lunch at the very moment that my appointment was supposed to start. So, I meandered around the store for 30 minutes and made a purchase. Just as I was paying, Marisol came over to the register and introduced herself. It was at that time that I learned that she is the ONLY GROOMER at that store. She then told me that she had 3 DOGS IN FRONT OF US. At this point, I was NOT a happy camper. I made an appt. for 11:30 knowing that I had 1 hour for lunch and then a meeting back at work at 1:00pm. This was RIDICULOUS! I decided not to leave my dog to get groomed and left, although cordial to the employees, I WAS FURIOUS. I wasted my time and energy and left without the service I had intended on having. CONCLUSION: This PETCO is gives this company a BAD REP! It is entirely under staffed and has TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS STORE! My business will now be 100% with Pet Smart. read more

The staff at this Petco are very friendly, always smile and say hello when you walk in. I am a fish breeder, so I mainly visit the aquatic department. For some reason, they always have dead fish floating in the tanks. Not a wide variety of fish either. They carry mainly generic tetra breeds, not much to look at. I would have scored them lower, but like I said, the staff is great and friendly! read more

This review is for the Petco Westwood Grooming....I brought my German Shepherd here for a total grooming, meaning shampoo, de-shedding, nail cutting, anal gland popping etc. First of all, Petsmart gave me a price of $58 for the same thing, but Petco's price was $79, the only reason I took my dog to them was because they had his vaccine record there from before. When I went to get him, they said they couldn't cut his nails, they couldn't dry him totally, which meant that he wasn't properly de-shed and when I brought him home, his hair was all over the house again. (The main reason I took him there was to get rid of his shedding) They have a bunch of young kids grooming dogs whom obviously have no idea what they are doing and can't handle a big dog. read more

I came into Petco today just to hear our favorite groomer Luis transferred to La Brea. The other groomers there are very nice but Lucy loved Luis so much. Their sale bins always have non sale items and even the items that are on sale don't have the discount stated on the signs. I tried to go to grooming on a weekday afternoon. The groomer said that she was going home sick and no one would be working in grooming until the next day. Another time, I went to puppy play time and there was no one there and nothing set up. In short, I have attempted several services from this store and have been disappointed repeatedly. They did make the store look nicer recently but I haven't seen any improvement in the items they carry or even the store flow. read more

If you want your dog or puppy trained come here! Ana will make your special little guy or girl behaving and listening to your every command no matter their age or where they came from. I have taken my puppy, Astro, since he was 3 months old. Ana has made him an amazingly well behaved dog and he is now working toward AKC.He is obedience trained. Ana also has trained Astro all the way up to Adult 2 and he's not even a year old! Astro also loves coming here to do introduction to agility. I bought 11 fish from them and I specifically told the sale person they will be going in fish bowls. He sold me water balance liquid and promised with this I would be fine. I followed instructions exactly and out the fish in 3 large vases.(4 and 4 and 3). All the fish died in less than 5 hours. I took them back and they would not give me any credit whatsoever. Total expense was $48 plus change, and I did not get anything in credit, not even a dime. I do not believe this is a way for a big company to do business.
