Had my dog groomed by Kim, she was amazing! He is usually very anxious getting his nails trimmed but she was able to get it done for him. The team was also so kind, texted and called me once he was ready to be picked up. I went in today to possibly buy a ferret. The store was completely empty almost looked abandoned. I had to go up to the front to someone at the register to get help to look at the ferrets. I have owned ferrets all my life. I've had a total of 12 when the person came over to help me I had asked if I could see a female and he said he didn't know what was what. And then he pulled out a tag that was hidden, which had the price on it which was $450. I have never in my whole entire life scene ferrets being sold for that much. It was absolutely heartbreaking. To charge so much money for such a little animal that usually gets abandoned or euthanized if they don't get sold. Why even bother having them in store if one there's no one there to help you too the person that works there can't help you doesn't know the difference between a boyfriend and a girlfriend, which is kind of common sense. It's an absolute shame. No wonder why the store was completely empty. I am still absolutely mortified at the price of those innocent tiny little animals. The cashiers, mainly Diana, Kellie and Jaime are so welcoming, helpful and very sweet. They love to greet my dog as well and always ask if it is OK for him to have a treat! I've been coming here for training my dog on store manners and getting food it's expensive but I like the option of buy 10 bags of food get 1 free. My dog goes through a bag in five weeks. Not the cheapest food either. Wish they had more options on harnesses for dogs with wide chests and treats without a lot of byproducts. The self serve washing stations are great, I'd use them if my doodle didn't require so much care in blow drying the hair. If I could leave 0 stars, I definitely would. The groomer, Kiah, accused my dog of trying to snip/bite her when I was standing there. Kiah kept brushing my dogs hair in the wrong direction and my dog turned her head to look at her, not to bite. The groomer then recommended different groomers (their competitors) and then blacklisted my dog from Petco. We've been loyal customers, my dog has been going there for years and never once had an issue. The groomer was unprofessional and definitely has no idea what she was doing. The manager Carmen was extremely unhelpful and won't take any responsibility for this situation. I highly suggest not using Petco in Medford, Ma for any services. I had a really bad experience with the groomer here. She is the head of the groomers. But as soon as I talk to her on the phone, I realized she had an attitude. She is very use to not listen to people talking, but want to finish her talking first and doesn't try to really understand what a customer say. I had to talk really fast to finish my sentence. And even though I explain to her, my online booking account shut off is because I missed the appointment the same day in the morning, at a different location. She seems to insist it's because my dog is heavy matted, that's why I can't book online. (Which is not, I was able to book the brighton one and I actually was there, only thing is I was late and they couldn't take my dog. And the groomer at brighton location literally said my dog is not heavily matted and they can take me the next day which they have time slot). But she was not listening to me at all. When I bring my dog there, she spend extra time to exam him, and I can see she really try to find a prove of her existing perception. And then it comes to another very bad thing. I explained my dog is under 51 pounds, which is according to the petco policy, under 51 is medium dog. But she keep saying his breed is a large dog, however, as a "professional groomer", she should know that each individual is very different even in one breed, that's why petco has the standard of weight. If she doesn't agree with that, she should negotiate with petco, instead of push me to choose large price. If she believes a number close to 51 should count as 51(he is 49), then petco would put to 49, you can't just around up like that. So funny is, the weight scale is behind the desk, she intentionally use her body blocked the screen. When she lead my dog on the scale, I can clearly see she freezes a moment(which should be realizing oh I was right, he is just 49), then she signed very slightly annoyingly, and make my dog changed position(which she was trying to let him sit more in the middle), and then still she doesn't seems to like the result, she tried it again. And then she just walk to me and said, "he is right around the 51". I really should have just get in and check the number, but is really back in, I was too polite to go into their work area, but J paused a second, and feel something is wrong. I asked her, what is the exact number, I wanna keep in track of his weight. And she said"just 51". Oh what a number. Again, I was too polite and I really thinking through this on my way home, and realized more wrong about this. Right after I got home, I weight kylin on the scale, you know what, 49.6. Interesting, huh. And then the next very bad thing is, when I call back to brighton location and see if I can book the next day. They told me she wrote a note that kylin is not cooperative and is not safe for them to do dematt on him. I was shocked! I was there the whole time watching them do the test round. He was so CALM the whole time!! I literally should record, I just didn't know people can be so mean like this. The only thing I see is he coughs. Which when she, the head of the grooming salon, the manager, the professional groomer, brought my dog out, she didn't even notice she had the leash on him so tight! It's chocking him! That's why he is coughing. I loosen it up, he felt good right away. That's professional? And he is uncooperative? My time with petsmart since he was a little, everyone is telling me how my dog is so calm, cooperative, behaving so well. And there is another petco groomer did the same, she did his paw and ear plugging all together, of course is so sensitive and he doesn't want her to continue. You suppose to take a break, professional. I shave him myself, and the most he does is to hide his paw to me. Back to that day, I was there the whole time and dangerous working with him because he is not cooperative? That's a shame. She literally took another dog before mine, that the dog was barking really hard, hyper energetic. She was literally taking with the owner how the dog kind of hard to control and act out. I don't personally against anything, I know it's a breed thing. But, I can clearly see how she is double standard. Collectively, the whole experience is awful. I am too naive and naturally think people are nice. Now I know one being "professional", doesn't means they are good people. They can be selfish, do whatever they want to do to get the result they like. And give attitude to customers just because they want to. Fine:) read more

They carried the brands that my previous shop had (Stella and Chewy + Tiki cat) which I was really excited about, because I have only been able to find these at smaller stores or online. Such a better location and experience than the Petco in Everett. This location is clean, brighter, bigger and has more of a selection of everything. The staff here are great - my kids wanted a fish tank and they were very patient and gave great advice. It was really great to think and know that they genuinely care about their animals and didn't try to upsell us on anything. They gave us some really good advice and we are now going on three months with our fish still alive! This location is conveniently located next to Wegman's, Marshals and Dicks Sporting Goods. Plenty of parking and it wasn't too crowded. The location is very clean and well maintained. We highly recommend this location specifically for your pet needs. Conveniently located in a plaza with Marshalls, Kohls, Wegmans, and Dicks, this Petco is probably my most frequented one because I typically need something at the other stores. The stock fluctuates frequently. At some points they'll have everything you need and that you're looking for, and other times they'll have only half their stock. I haven't quite figured that out. The staff here are either extremely helpful or could not be less interested. I've found no in between (which seems a bit odd?). I've had great service and great experiences, and I've also placed online orders and then had to wait a half hour for the slowest person ever to find the merchandise that they emailed saying was ready. Overall: convenient location, typically decently stocked, staff mostly okay. My dog likes it here very much because he likes picking out his own toys, so I'll be back. Frequently. read more

I am pained to give a negative review because Petco does such great things in their respective communities. However, this location has all around operational issues that could use some better management. I've tried to place online orders for pickup multiple times only to have all or some items not available and the order is cancelled. If this happens occasionally, no big deal, but it has happened with every order. I've never been able to pick up a full order. Apparently inventory tracking is non-existent. The wait in line is also unnecessarily long and slow. I've never seen more than one cashier even when long lines start to form. This last one is just a Petco thing in general but not carrying brands like Friskies and Fancy Feast is a bummer. I get the whole health thing but cats are picky! To go to a pet store but still have to go to another store for pet food is a little ridiculous. Petco should be a one-stop shop for all pet needs. read more

I took my wheaten terrier in for a groom. He's a bit fidgety and bites at the vacuum used to dry the animals. Roughly 20 minutes after I dropped him off one of the groomers called me to say that they were unable to groom him because of the biting. I understand that you need some cooperation when grooming a dog but they were completely unable to adjust to what I would consider a good dog who is a bit fidgety. Not to mention I waited for 25 minutes at the counter before anyone came out to see me. Just a completely incompetent grooming staff. Oh, and they also charged me $33 for what was ultimately a bath that I could have done myself. read more

I just bought 1 cute little fish for my fresh water aquarium and the fish was carrying ick! the little fish died within 3 days and has infest my whole 10 gallon tank (5 fish) with ick. i am very upset. every time I get any fish from this place it brings some kind of disease. The clerk checking me out (the only clerk available) refused to wear his mask over his nose. Before I approached, I asked him to please cover his nose. He pulled it up, but then as I stepped forward he pulled it back down. I stepped back a good distance while he rang up my purchase, but then again asked him to put his mask on or to step back before I came up to put in my card. He did the same thing of pulling the mask up, and then as I stepped forward immediately pulled it back down. If the staff can't be bothered to actually wear a mask properly, even when asked twice by a customer, and when it's required by order of both the state and the city, I will not be shopping there again. read more

Would be Zero if I could post w/o having to place an actual star. Anyhow-I've been speaking with Petco for over a week now. My cat needs specialized prescription medication, which it has not been a problematic issue obtaining a prescription from the vet for other food services pharmacies. Petco has insisted they have sent a requisition for a prescription to my vet a no. Of timrs. My vet insists that they have never gotten a requisition and that they have many problems with Petco and their Pharmacy. I insisted to speak to the pharmacy customer service ( in the Philippines) said no. They insisted I get a fax number , then insisted that my vet had said no to the prescription. This was right after I'd spoken to the admin at the vet and irl texted with them and said as soon as requisition came in they would accept it and send it right back. I got a good deal on this food, but it's definitely not worth the pain. I asked to speak to a supervisor they said none was available but they COULD CALL ME BACK. They can call me but can't call or email my vet?!?! BTW all online pharmacies are able to call veterinarians not the opposite Petco insists that they ( my vet) call them. A friend ordered some items for my dog for Valentine's Day. The order included an item that my dog doesn't eat, so I came here to exchange it. I brought the packing slip with me. The first cashier I saw said I could get something and then come back to the register. She scanned the item and let me know the price. I grabbed some dog treats and came back to a different cashier. I explained the situation again and expected this to be super easy. Well, the cashier was quite rude and said I needed the receipt and told me to pull up the email. I again explained that this was a gift, and the packing slip was all I got. After several sighs, the cashier let me know that they would need to call in to get the order number and price, but it would take a long time. They sighed again and let me know that they did not have a phone. I said that I did not mine waiting, so off they went to get a phone. When they called the order in, the cashier's frustration about having to do this was visible. There were even more sighs, hands to the face, and voice raising. I felt so uncomfortable standing there, and it was embarrassing listening to the cashier being rude on the phone. At one point they told the person to hurry up because there were ten customers in line (I turned around, and there were two...). Eventually the information needed is obtained, and my exchange is started. The cashier then tells me that they think the price they were given over the phone is incorrect because it doesn't match the Petco.com price (it's too high), and they are going to do the exchange at the Petco.com price. Whatever. Just get it done. I left baffled at how rude the cashier was towards me and the person over the phone. I get that it's extra steps, but it honestly took maybe 5 minutes once they were on the phone. At one point, I just wanted to say forget it and leave without the exchange to avoid listening to the cashier yell over the phone and be so visibly frustrated at having to do their job. read more

Brought my dog in for self wash, not too busy, will be bringing her back for sure. $12 self wash gives you plenty of warm water, puppy or adult shampoo, conditioner, towels, and use of a hand dryer with two settings to clean your pup. Good find, helpful staff. read more

A review about the pet hotel/extended pet stay. Pros: Very friendly staff, and large store. Cons: Brought my dog in for about 10 days or so for a pet hotel/extended pet stay. Before we took him in, we gave him a full bath. However, within the span of 10 days, he came back pretty filthy, smelling of urine, feces, and also, not to mention, he did have a LOT of liquid/smelly odors (like he ran into his pee puddles) on his face. He had lots of small particles of eye gunk which he didnt have just before his stay. We werent able to see his cubicle where his bed and food were kept, and they told us he is to be in one of the cubicles in the middle where no one but the employees would see him. I was just concerned as to the cleanliness of his cubicle (since we left him for 10 days) as if they actually cleaned his stall every day (seemed like they cleaned his stall only once or twice within the span of 10 days) or if they didn't clean it at all before the previous dog had left. Was very concerned about the cleanliness, and yes I do like to have my dogs stall kept clean since we had payed over 400 for his hotel stay. read more

Today we went to 3 different pet stores looking for a chameleon. We were so happy when we finally met Kyle. He was extremely knowledgeable about how to care for a chameleon and even knew all the best products to purchase. He answered every one of my hundred questions with patience. He assisted us with every product from the tank, to plants, food, lighting, etc. The Medford location was out of the way but it was well worth it coming to find Kyle who truly cares for all the animals in his department. The excuse was "you should bring your dog here during the week so we can spend more time on him." Really more time?! They took four hours! I had a thriving freshwater aquarium before buying a couple fish from this store. The disease they carried wiped out my beautiful tank and now for the price of a pair of Chinese algae eaters I've lost 20+ fish and will likely lose the rest soon.
