Went here today for a shot clinic for my senior pet. While I would give Vetco and their accessibility to affordable shots five stars, the customer service part of the store itself is lacking. After spending time in line at the clinic and then trying to pay with Apple Pay, which was down, I asked if I could use the restroom. I was told that they are not open to the public. Hmmmm.......I think the slogan for Petco is, " Where the pets go.'" Well, they don't let humans use their bathroom even as a paying customer with a 17-year-old dog in mid-July. When I got back to the car it said it was 110 degrees. The initially polite cashier who later claimed on the phone to also be the manager recommends you go to Aldi with your pet in tow as "theirs are really nice." I get how businesses have to crack down on who uses their facilities due to theft and just lack of respect for cleanliness, but being denied usage of a facility where you have non-service animal is a bit ridiculous because, well, they're a PET store. He even seemed happy with himself for the recommendation (like doing me/us a favor?) which didn't help solve my problem. So I decided to call and speak to the manager and it turns out he was/is the manager. Another hmmmm. If that's the case, he needs to work on his soft skills or at the very least have signage that indicates there is no public bathroom as policy. I remember the Palm Springs location associate once said to me they recommend TJ Maxx's bathroom next door. He acted the same way like it was a bro tip. So this seems to be a pattern and I'm not sure how these other corporations feel about being the rest stop for a neighbor. I drove to Petsmart down the street and used their restroom with no issue with my dog, bought something I didn't really need, and donated $2 to their charity of the day. I have taken my dog to Petco groomer several times a year and when I am in town . The groomers were always nice and did a good job. It seems everyone that I used in the past has moved on to new places . Sometimes the cuts were not great but he is a dog and it will grow out in a few weeks . This last visit was a completely new experience. I picked him up and realized immediately it was a bad cut but after waiting over 3 hours I felt like it was best to tip well and say nothing . Once I got home and tried to brush him I realized that every hair on his head seemed to be a different length .It looked like I had done it myself , why would they even think it was the proper haircut ? It was not just bad it was a mess. The following week I found a new groomer and she did the best she could to fix the mess. I will never return , it's not the place it used to be. read more

Don't waster your time or money. They don't honor their own coupons for their "first free exam" and then they try to package vaccines that your pet doesn't need including a very overpriced microchip that comes with three free visits within a year that you won't need considering that most vaccines are 1-3 year boosters and even those are overpriced. We had an appointment and arrived where we spoke to "Emily" who was very rude and abrupt and trying hard to tell me that my dog could only receive their one year vaccinations as her previous vaccines expired a month ago. I asked her if I could speak to their veterinarians and that's where the conversation took a bad turn as there wasn't a licensed veterinarian giving the vaccinations as they only had a vet tech. I wasn't allowed to speak to that vet tech either. It was then that we decided to take our business elsewhere as there were too many red flags. I came in for a particular brand and flavor for my cat. She has been a very picky eater at 15 yo. I tried Stella and Chewy's and she went crazy for it. So I went back to get a 30 day supply and they had a limited amount in the store. When I went to check out Casey and Emily were helping me. I asked Casey the cheapest way to buy these packets of wet food. She literally did a search to find me a cheaper price via competitor. Because they will match pricing. I was super impressed by the way she took her time and helped me with exactly what I needed. I was able to save a lot of money by taking the extra time with her. This Petco has had some staffing changes that are very positive. I believe they hired more staff. I would highly recommend the Palm Desert store as they went that extra mile for me. read more

I like that this petco is never really crowded and they have a good selection of treats. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I had to get our dog some greenie pill pockets for his allergy medicine and they had a sale on some blue Buffalo teeth bones so I picked some of those up too. It can be confusing sometimes with the petco pals rewards price when that item is also on sale and when I asked the sales girl she didn't know which price was correct. I was unable to find a 4 pound bag of a certain dog food anywhere. I stopped into this Petco (Palm Desert) I was able to speak to the manager Casey. She was very willing to help me she was able to lead me right to the dog food I was looking for. Casey also let me know that in the future if they didn't have the food in stock to let her know and she would order it for me. This store is very well stocked and very clean. All the employees were very polite and friendly paying a lot of attention to my dog and giving her plenty of cookies. I highly recommend this pet store. read more

With the cold weather, my gals needed a harness that would work with their winter wardrobe . Chi's are not the easiest as they are so small and I am always concerned about harnesses, vest, etc tugging on their trachea. I am telling ya, I felt like a crazy women in a wardrobe room at Macys. We must have tried every harness, etc etc on, in the store. Storm was SO VERY HELPFUL and patient. We eventually found yes the "perfect harness(s)" This is a good 90 minutes later. I stopped by this Petco location today because I was running an errand next door. This is not the usual Petco that I go to. An employee greeted me with a smile and a warm "hello" when I walked in around 2:30pm. They get one star for that. A couple of minutes later, I noticed a cart with a lot of Bettas on it. Their water was filthy and there was dirt covering the Bettas' holding cups. This cart was left in an aisle and I don't know if it had been there for a few minutes or all day. I was totally disgusted and shocked by the conditions that these fish were living in. If I didn't already have a male Betta living the good life in a 46 gallon aquarium, I would have rescued one of these little guys. I checked on the conditions of the rodents. Their cages were clean and the animals appeared to be in good health. I left without buying anything. I was too appalled to give this particular store my business. I went in and the customer service was not bad but I'm slightly disappointed. I bought a travel cage for my guinea piggy and Surprise there's a LIVE spider in the cage. Oh and there was a dead bug as well, really disgusting. I don't think I paid money for me to kill a tiny bug and clean a dead one. I was EXTREMELY nervous about taking my darling boy (kitty) to get groomed for the first time. I looked at all the reviews and got really nervous from some of the horror stories. My baby really really needed to be shaved from all the matting. I took a leap of faith and made the appt! Sheryl did an EXCELLENT job! Being as my kitty is unbelievably scared of everything and super shy, i honestly didn't think we'd be able to pull this off. But she made it happen and was very kind to him. Great shave job... Except that was not what I ordered. My border collie has two coats and should not be shaved. Megan and I discussed this and she let me choose a length that would protect his his hide yet clean him up. I think she had to go way shorter than planned to match up with a section that probably got shaved by accident... Just under his front leg, there is a patch of bare skin! Also the fur on his front legs *is* the length I wanted, and will now grow out longer than all his other fur. They were quick, easy to book, and seemed to treat my dog very well... I just love this store, especially this location. The selection is thorough and the stock always seems full. Storm and Bruce are stellar employees. I can not say enough about them. Storm is delightful, helpful, knowledgeable and so sweet to my pup Sonny Lee. He helped us with harnesses and with a great attitude! Bruce is always so nice at the check-out, always gives love to my boy Sonny and always in a good mood. My New Go to pet store for supplies I called ahead of time because I do dog grooming and my curved grooming shears just broke on me but an awesome guy named Bruce answered the phone and set the very last pair of curved shears aside for me So I went online really quick and did a curbside online order and drove right over 15 minutes later and they literally brought them right out to my car! All I had to do was call the store and let them know I had just placed an online curbside order and give them my name then show my ID at the car and they handed me my scissors Thank you so much Bruce!! Purchase dog food /treats at PetCo. Love their products. Finally started using their dog grooming services. Dismayed that the groomers were "on break, or on lunch" at scheduled grooming times. When they were called by the front desk that a client was waiting, they acted put out. We had an appointment! After the last grooming, our dog got mange. Our dog does not go to pet parks, etc. she only goes in "public" to get groomed. Thinking back to "breaks" when appointments are scheduled, makes us wonder if they clean all grooming materials between dogs. We think not. today August 27 I went to the Petco store in Palm Desert with a friend to have his puppy vaccinated. After we got the puppy vaccinated we were in the checkout line and were given the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I was truly disappointed in the attitude and the lack of kindness displayed by the manager by the name of Tyler. We asked him how we could apply the discount that was due to my friend who is a member of the Petco veterinary services. For some reason it appeared that he was having a very bad day and his answer was to go to the the website. I asked him very nicely once we navigate to the website where do we go from there ? He then replied curtly and said go to the website and turned away. This upset me so much that I asked him nicely one more time who the manager of the Petco store for that location and sadly he said that he was the manager and walked away. Next to us was an associate who turned to us and said how can I help you.? We explained to her that all we were asking for was how to navigate the website to apply the discount that was due to the vaccination protocol. She explained to us how to do that and that is all we were asking for. I was very disappointed in his lack of kindness and left the store angry for receiving that kind of treatment. This guy needs a course in dealing nicely with customers. Someone needs to do a review of his performance and a reprimand for treating loyal cust in that fashion. I am going to never return to that store and I'm going to encourage all of my friends and family to not go to the Petco in Palm Desert with that kind of attitude displayed by the manager of the store. Oh no...this place brings tears to my eyes. I want to apply as Manager and clean things up. My kids cry every time we visit. I wish I was undercover PETA. I'm sure cute little sea horses fall into some kind of protection law? I would first use the entire staff to come in and remove all of the dead animals and then after using them to clean the place up I would let them all go, as in good bye old staff. Thanks for nothin'. Every fish tank has a dead fish in it. All of them have mildew, mold and parasites. None of the tanks water levels are where they need to be and again...tons of dead fish every time I go in. There's only one person working at a time so there's no one to talk to about this mess and if you could find this person it's not worth it because they simply don't care. The place smells like ass and it's poorly lit. The little dog treats in the middle are always covered in flies...ah! I can't even write any more...I'm mad again. District Manager reading this?
