First off I am rating this a one star just because there is no hate it button! This afternoon I took my 5 month old Pomeranian puppy to the groomers at this location and honestly I am furious with the lack of professionalism ! The groomer at first when I took him in he was very rude and looked bothered by my questions (which obviously I asked because it was my first time taking my puppy to get groomed there) I showed this guy a picture of the famous "bear cut" which my puppy already had and needed a trim , and asked him if he had done that cut before and said he has. I left him there at 2:00pm , later when I noticed it was already 5pm and nobody has called me , I immediately called and someone said the groomer was barely working on him. I picked up my puppy at 5:30pm and this is the cut he gets. I am so upset!! Now I question myself, are they really qualified to deal with animals? Are they trained properly to be groomers? Horrible experience. I drove far out of my way to this petco so that I could pick up an item that I ordered online. This was the only petco even remotely close that had the product so I made sure to purchase it as soon as I saw it. When I arrived to pick up my order I was told that my order had been canceled before I arrived because they sold it to someone else. Although I was refunded I was not offered an apology or any other type of compensation such as a be our guest coupon. Please give Kim a raise. My dog ran out of food on a Sunday afternoon and the earliest I could get to Petco for more was later that evening. It was 7:01pm and I found her locking the door because (I didn't know) they closed at 7pm. I asked her if there was any chance to purchase a bag of food fully expecting to be turned away, but she let me in and checked me out, all while being very friendly. It's clean and nice, but one issue I have is that you can never find a staff member when you need help on something. There is always one or two at the register and it seems like the rest are hiding somewhere... I'm glad they carry Natural Balance and Wellness, which are probably the only good brands of pet food they carry in the entire store. And, of course, the care sheets. Their smaller animals are kept in clean environments. None of them seem sickly or show any signs of stress. I'm also glad they host adoption events, which I know every large chain does. :) I always try to donate when I can. One thing that does miff me is the "Designer Dog" books they have... But that's another matter. Overall, they have what you need - just good luck finding someone to answer your questions. read more

I went in to buy a guinea pig. The three workers who helped me out really helped me out. By scanning what I needed to buy (A cage, bedding, food, chew toys, the guinea pig itself) using the online discount, I saved a ton of cash. And was so happy to have a new furry friend. All the guinea pigd looked healthy and in shape. I had been reading up previously on what to look out for and they all seemed in the clear. It was honestly hard to choose. I finally did indeed choose one though. I chose a female guinea pig . I named her Shaka. She was on sale too! That was awesome. Dear Petco at Porter Ranch, I've been a proud pet owner and have been coming to this location for my dogs grooming + haircut for the past 4 years. My dog is 5 years old - so ever since I've had her I've been bringing her here to this location with no problems. Until a week ago... The woman who usually cuts her hair is gone (her name is Ashley) she was so sweet and did a fantastic job. That's why we kept coming back. We called and made an appointment - they cancelled the appointment with out notifying us. We rushed to get her there on time only to find out they weren't able to take us in. When we asked why they didn't call they said they only called some people. What does that mean some people? Why aren't you calling everyone? I should've know there was something wrong from that point but I gave them the benefit of a doubt. There was a new person named Dominique who took the appointment. After two hours I dropped off my dog he called and told me that my dog bit him and that he was not able to finish her haircut. I immediately apologized and rushed over there with my mom to see what happened and if everything was ok. When we got there our dog was really happy to see us. Dominique told us he didn't have any marks and that he was fine but he wasn't able to finish her cut because our dog was being aggressive. He gave us a coupon and told us we still needed to pay for it. I need to mention my dog looked crazy - she had the top of her body shaved and the rest was all long. He also said he cut her nails and cleaned her ears. Anyway we walked up to the register to pay for the ridiculous service UNTIL I NOTICED there was a huge CUT on my dogs LEG!!! She was bleeding and it looked like it could get infected... So let me get this straight you cut my dog and blame her for biting you? You don't know how to do your job and LIE to us about what you did and make us pay for it? We were loyal customers and you broke our trust. I also failed to mention he said the dog must have been Traumatized by a previous groomer. What the hell we have been bringing her to Petco all these years!! We asked to speak to the manager and he of course wasn't there. I left my number but did anyone call? OFCOURSE not! I'm very disappointed with the service and low quality people here. If you pride your huge corporation to service pets then make sure you hire the right people or do a good job training them. I didn't pay for the cut and I will never return here for anything ever again!!! I'm glad my dog is ok and hoping they didn't do anything worse! I am extremely disappointed with the service I received from Petco! I took my dog for grooming, bathing, clipping nails and brushing his teeth. First, since I was seven minutes late, they did not want to take care of me anymore. I had to ask for the manager to get an exception done. Not the best first impression at all! Ashley at the front seemed not to like her job as she looked indifferent. No personality at all! After 5 hours I finally received a call that my dog was ready. He was kept in a small cage, no water and no food. Once I got home, he was drinking almost his entire bowl of water. I will not return to Petco for sure. Just awful! read more

I went to the porter ranch store because I was meeting someone for lunch in the shopping center and I was early. I accidentally picked up some doggie conditioner instead of shampoo by mistake. Not Petco's fault... I just didn't read the label carefully enough. Anyway, they don't have saltwater fish like the Santa Clarita store does. Since I don't work in this area anymore, I probably won't be a regular. It s nice and clean like most of their stores, and the staff is usually friendly and helpful too. read more

I had to update this review to include a recent grooming experience we had with our 9 year old German Shepherd. First of all hes a pain. Doesn't like to be bathed or brushed. We took him here because frankly I don't trust most groomers. I like that the groomers here are behind clear glass so we can see whats going on the whole time. Bottom line is he came home clean, and well brushed out. All of his excess coat was gone, and he was happy. We were charged 39 bucks, and it was well worth it! I will come here again for sure. The cashier greeted me as I came in but understandably could not leave his station to help and I asked him to point me in the direction of the product. I ended up being helped by Victor, the manager. never again will i take my pomeranian here! today my boyfriend drop her off for grooming and was ask how short to cut the hair. he told them a bit short and leave her puffy. they cut it so short that i hardly recognized her. plus they gave her a regular bath which i couldve done myself at home. her hair was so uneven and it look horrible!!!! when i took her to petsmart for the first time grooming they used the white shampoo for her hair since shes white and also gave her a bath with the chi shampoo which left her smelling good for weeks. this place just gave her a regular bath. if i could give them 0 stars i would. i dont recommend this place to anyone!! keep in mind my babyy is only 2 pounds how hard could've been that they messed up her hair. read more

I love how they communicated with me, I was so worried to leave my puppy because it was going to be his first haircut and I didn't know how he would act. Also I had an appointment the groomer that groomed my puppy is Cathy she called that same day at around 12pm and asked if I can bring in my puppy earlier than the scheduled appointment because there was a sick call, which worked out fine because she got to spend even more time with my puppy which is important that way they get introduced to the grooming process. This petco had a very friend staff who cares about animal. I was there looking for cat food for my elderly cat and one of the staff people were very helpful. My cat was having trouble with keeping her food down. I wanted some cat food with low in protein and the clerk there was very sympathetic to my cat being old and knew what what kind of cat food I needed. Petco groomers are pretty good overall, but Jalen at Porter Ranch is fantastic. He truly seems to like my dogs and cares for them. We couldn't be happier with the service we get from Jalen. We have three (big, medium, small) dogs. read more

I went in there today to get some cat stuff for this feral cat who adopted me. I needed help and Kevin the manager saw that and he really helped me and listened to me and even walked me out with the stuff. He even found some coupons! He saved me money. He made me feel so much better. I wanted to cry before because everything is so expensive. But he really helped. His customer service was amazing and it was exactly what a neighborhood pet place should be. I will be returning again soon. I'm giving a 2 stars rating instead of only 1 star because I like the dog trainers at this Petco Porter Ranch location, but I'm never going back to take our 8-month old labradoodle there anymore for grooming. The 2nd to the last time we were there for grooming, we requested them to trim just an inch off our dog's hair which they did for no extra cost. However, they forgot to do the sanitary trim, belly, and some parts of the legs. I let that go because it's too much of a hassle to go back and complain. Then during our last visit for our dog's grooming, I requested the same cut and I was told that I have to pay an additional $41 for a scissors cut on top of the $47 bath with hair cut service, so it's $88! The person who checked us in (not the actual groomer of our dog that day) said that I was billed wrong last time by someone new and didn't know about the pricing. Let me tell you that she was not a pleasant person to talk to. Her demeanor was borderline rude. Anyway, I told her that they missed doing the sanitary trim, etc. last time and she looked at our dog and said that she doesn't see it. Of course she didn't see it at that moment because our dog was sitting down. We opted for just the trimmer cut down to 1 inch so we don't have to pay the extra $41. When we picked up our dog, the same rude person told us that we'll be charged with just the bath service because they couldn't finish trimming the lower parts of his body. She said our dog was snappy and bit the groomer so they stopped because biting is unacceptable. I get it that our dog needs more training and that he appears to be scary when he gets irritated because of his large size. He's not fond of grooming/brushing like he tries to bite the comb, but he likes to bathe. When they said that he bit the groomer, I felt bad for her but it probably wasn't a hard bite that breaks the skin but a kind of bite to just give her a scare so she'll stop grooming him. I should know because I give our dog weekly baths, blow drying, ear/teeth cleaning, and hair combing myself in between our trips to the professional groomers. It just takes patience, treats, and some tricks to get our dog distracted to get it done. I asked if they were not able to trim his nails as well just so I know, and the rude lady confirmed in an annoying tone "We didn't trim his nails too because your dog bites!" It's the way she talked to me which was irritating. I'll just try other groomers in the area who can handle big dogs with care/love. I wouldn't take our dog to Cruella de Vil like I wouldn't have a mean babysitter for my kids. read more

The worst! Customer service is poor! They don't answer your call, you need to call three times in order to get a live person on the other line. I called for a simple peddicure for my pet. As it happens, I found out that if your pet is new to Petco, they Require a rabbis proof in the form of a document, that they call "physical proof" that your pet has the vaccine. This with the purpose of protecting other pets, which is understandable. The problem comes when you are told that if you don't have the document that contains the pet's ID, it's not enough to show evidence with just the collar rabbis token that contains the pet's ID and it's not enough to see the information inside the pet's microchip! So I asked: My pet has all the vaccines including rabbis, but please answer my question and entertain my curiosity, so if I were to have a new pet, where else can I get the vaccine other than in a pet place like yours? The lady on the phone said: Oh! well! You need to get it from a vet. So I asked, "Do you have a vet? She answered "yes" so, what you are telling me is that you have the worst customer service there is over Petsmart.... I would never trust my pet to Petco!!! End of conversation.
