Parakeets food dishes were completely empty , seems no body changed food for a day or two , even water seems dirty , one of parakeet seems sick . Absolute horrible experience. We brought in our puppy to the groomers for the first time and as we arrive to pick him up he is sitting on the floor under where they are grooming other dogs in a pile of dog hair. The groomer then proceeds to inform us our dog has neurological issues and to see a vet right away. After an emergency vet appt of course we find out the dog is perfectly fine. Also our pup never sheds ever! Now he's hair comes out in clumps the moment he picked him up and it hasn't stopped. He's nails we're also razor sharpe after the appt. We will NEVER be coming back. This has to be one of the most unprofessional places I've been to. I take my baby for grooming at 1, est pick up at 3. I call at 3:30 since they forgot about me (keep in mind this is already long hrs for dog in a cage), they tell me he be ready by 4:30. I get there at 5 to be on the "safe side", the lady gives me some bs that my dog is this and that, says 15 more mins. I left at 6:00. I am not exaggerating. My dog was at this place for 5 hours straight. I asked for a discount, they refused. I paid almost $60. Poor baby freaking out until we finally got hm he felt safe again. Super thirsty and hungry. No dog deserves this treatment. No customer should be waiting for 5 hrs to get their baby back. She just yelled NO! as I was walking away she yelled out THANK BEST FRIENDS FOR ME!! For a person that rescues cats she had no heart. So I decided to stand in petco at the door way to see if anyone might want him. I even asked the workers if i can stand here and they were fine with it. The Just Cats rescue lady saw me standing there and told me to go away because she's selling cats and that it was illegal for me to stand there. I told her im just looking for a home for him. As I write this review, I must acknowledge the great treatment I've gotten here for 5+ years. But something has happened. In the past month & a half, every time I try to bring my two small dogs in for teeth cleaning & nail trimming, they've only had one groomer working, and that person is usually visibly exhausted and overworked. (Often they actually comment on it) Over the years, we had gotten to know everyone and received amazing treatment, but now we're constantly turned away & today was the last time. My baby has gotten exams, vaccinations, and a bath at different locations and the Petco Company is so satisfying and very helpful. When my baby is sick I always ask for the best options and they always help me with what I need! Store manager at Porter ranch, Nicky, was very rude and unhelpful and I had to do my own research to get your info. First off I would like to start by saying I have been a long time customer of Petco and have spent a lot of time and money there. I have also volunteered my time with animal donations and am I huge animal lover. Now onto the issue. I had a printout of an item from your own company Petco.com for Royal Canin Dachshund dry food 10lb for $35.99 and instore price $41,99. As I checked out I simply asked to price match it with cashier associate, and she said no problem, just need to verify with manager. Nikcy came back saying that we can not match our OWN companies web site. So I asked to speak to her and explained, its PETCO and she just did not want to hear anything I said and brushed me off. So I explained to her I could go down the street to petsmart where they would be happy to take my business. I asked Nicky for corp # and just gave me the online sales 888# which was no help, I went back and asked her for your name and contact info and she rudely stated NO. This has been my only unpleasant experience with Petco, but I will make sure Its not recommended unless something is done. Some people aren't made to be in customer service and your manager Nicky is one of those. I have been in retail for over 15 years and this was completely unprofessional. I have a lab/rot mix. She doesn't have long hair or need elaborate primping, but it's difficult to bathe her in my townhouse. For a long time, I was super averse to paying for something I could do myself but life got a little more comfortable for me financially and I took the plunge for the grooming last Christmas. OMG, Penny smelled so good. She smelled like gingerbread cookies, and she was SO soft. I was hooked. I don't bring her all the time. She's an inside dog now, so she doesn't get as dirty as she used to when we had a yard. So, I wait for Petco to send me a 25% off email or for my Petco Rewards to give me a $5 coupon. Essentially, I wait a month or two and get her groomed for about $25. It's perfect. And so is she when she gets home!!! They do such a good job of getting her soft and all her extra hair combed out. Sometimes, they send her home with a bandana around her neck. That's always super special, and it lets me know they take pride in their work. The girls there are generally very kind and knowledgeable. Penny gets a little scared about going back there, but the staff is very understanding and gentle. They are very communicative with me about when Penny is ready to be picked up and that she's doing ok. As for shopping at the store, I don't generally do my dog food/supplies there. I frequent Kahoots nearby for that. But there is tons of selection for those who want to make it a one stop shop, and everything is well organized. The prices are very good and the staff is knowledgeable. I'd recommend shopping there too, for sure. read more

I have been taking our senior dog here for a while now. The last time was in November 2012. I called today to make an appt. to get her groomed, no haircut, and was put on hold while they checked the schedule. Next thing I know, someone else gets on the phone and tells me that because my dog is a senior, they can't groom her. What?? I told them she had just been in a couple of months ago and she was a senor then, nothing had changed since and asked why she couldn't be groomed now. I was told that Petco is "cutting back" on grooming senior dogs because of the liability. Hmm, interesting as I ALWAYS sign waivers when I go in. This person also said that it was due to insurance and liability issues with older dogs. She then said that I was told this when I brought my dog in last year. What?? Really?? This was news to me and when I told her that she said, "Oh, well, I apologize if they didn't tell you but..." My dog may be a senior but she's in better health than some dogs half her age and I can guarantee you that I will NEVER step into a Petco again because to me, this is bogus, akin to discrimination! The first thing I'm going to do is call my friend who has 3 senior dogs and takes hers to the Petco in her area as I don't want her to run across what I did. I guess we'll have to let all our friends with senior dogs in on the new policy and find a new place for our senior dogs...good-bye Petco, you've lost this customer and soon, many others, for life! read more

The following review is about the branch on Tampa; the bottom paragraph is about the Porter Ranch branch. "Alright, I believe this is my first 1 star review, and I believe I am completely justified. I have been in the market for freshwater fish and due to the proximity of both Petcos, Porter Ranch and this one, I have visited both a few times in the past couple of months. I have yet to meet "Eddie" the fish expert that everyone is talking about, but I don't believe it matters when the quality of the fish, or lack thereof, gives enough proof. On my last two visits in the past two weeks, I scouted the tanks and was able to count a total of 10 Sick fish and 18 Dead fish! That makes 28 Sick/Dead out of a total of no more than 70 or so freshwater fish. I was just amazed how little the fish are taken care of. This is not even counting the many sick/dead betta fish that Petco always has nearly 40 of at each store. I went again today and saw that they finally did some maintenance/cleaning of fish and saw only 1 dead fish but this was out of a total of maybe 15 fish available. I spent more time looking at the Betta: there were 3 dead and the many others had unbelievable amounts of feces covering the bottom. I think 4-5 visits with no purchases and same results each time in the fish department is enough, no matter how close. I will no longer be visiting this particular store." The Porter Ranch branch is better, and I did buy a few tetras after a thorough inspection. BUT (Sadly I also saw a MM platy eating another very sick platy with horrible popeye and ripped fins; this was very clear to see and don't know how this went on without my telling the employee that this behavior was in fact NOT normal for platies, and that the popeye would kill the fish if the other didn't.) I would personally recommend the Petsmart on Victory blvd. The few times I have been there I was helped by a knowledgeable employee, and ended up purchasing the ten fish currently in my fully cycled tank. read more

saw many bad reviews on here, so this is for anyone that is skeptical upon reading all the negative. I brought my cat to be groomed here for the first time...had an incredible experience. He's usually very easy to groom but is so angry at me after, he makes himself throw up. After leaving petco grooming he was actually in a very good mood and didn't make himself vomit. Three stars for them. For the girl named Frog in the comments, complaining about price gouging...disrespectfully, she's an idiot. Clearly with Covid, stores are doing what they can to keep people at home and not shopping in-store. Those are called...incentives. Before picking up my cat from grooming I ordered several items (including his flea medication) it was on sale in store and online for $60 but if you order online for pick up you get an extra 25% off. So that's what I did. Two more stars. I picked up my happily groomed cat and my order 25% cheaper and was on my way. If I saw something cheaper online I would not complain about it...I'd buy it. If you have a problem with the prices, respectfully, go elsewhere. This petco was nicely kept and the employees were delightful. Thank you! read more

The groomers were delightful cat whisperers who were able to calm my cat Max, who can be aggressive. They also discovered that the nail covers had interfered with regrowth of his nails. So they cut the nails rather than re-applying the nail covers. I had him checked out by the vet after the grooming visit and was relieved to find out that he seems to be ok. The vet will continue to watch him until nails have fully grown in. read more

Times are difficult and being disabled, I'm incredibly happy to get out for an hour a week. I went down the hill to our local Petco on Rinaldi in Porter Ranch. I was looking for an identical window perch for our kitties. The inattentive clerk said it wasn't in stock despite the website stating otherwise. He said order it online and pickup curbside. Their website went down in the middle of creating a profile and wouldn't accept my credentials or change them. I called customer service where I was on hold 1.5 hours. This is at 8pm. I gave up and tried again the next day, pretty much the same thing so I called the store directly and was told to call customer service. Finally fixed it on 3rd day but my confirmation order stated item was $34.00 on sale but my bill was $56.00 and still haven't received item! Love this Petco! It's super clean and everything is organized neatly and there are tons of products. Products you can't find at other petcos. The cashier was also very friendly about questions I had. Also super nice and helpful to know that petco price matches! Yippy! So whatever - and I mean whatever - (treat or toys for my cat) I'm about to purchase I go on petco.com while I'm at the store and I pull up their online prices. And show the cashier that price. I wish I could have adopted another cat. They were all cute, playful and comfortable around other humans. One suggestion to visitors: PLEASE! Don't hit the cage of the kitten/cat! I saw a man approach a sleeping cat and poked him. Obviously, the cat will react! (You wouldn't want a stranger hitting/poking you). Since, the cat hissed at him the man began hitting the cage. Took my little dog here to get groomed. We were greeted nicely and i left her there to be groomed. They told me it would take a couple hours so i left to run some errands. I got home and not even 10 min later Jeff called me to tell me to come pick my dog up. He said that she was biting. Side note: my dog NEVER bites unless she gets anxious or scared. He proceeded to tell me to take her elsewhere since neither him nor his coworker could groom her and that he "rarely turns people away". They made her look terrible it was so sad. I understand that my dog was anxious but it makes me wonder what they were doing to make her anxious. Also.... it's kind of their job to groom. I'm sure my dog wasn't the first nor last dog to get nervous while being groomed. Will not make the mistake of bringing her here again. read more

Love this place, usually well stocked and the people are nice. I don't have my dogs groomed here, however, I went in there with my new maltese one day after trying to wrestle bows into her hair and the groomers did me a solid and did it for me. Again, my groomer comes to me; however, I will definitely be taking my new Maltese in there for facial and coat-whitening treatments every few weeks. My chi, loses his little mind every time we visit this place, which for him I'll grant you is a very quick trip from sane to batguano, but it's fun to watch and they always give him freebie treats from the treat bar so we love it here as a family... read more

Even helped us out look for the food. This location didnt have any food left in Stock but he called multiple stores to find some. Had them hold it for me until I get there. Very helpful. ASHLEY was the one who helped us and i would definitely recommend her! Took my rescued pit in for her first grooming ever. Paid about 40 bucks to get her ears and teeth cleaned, nails cut, washed with scented soap, brushed & dried. She was done in about an hour and a half. i was very happy with how shiny her coat was and how bright her white chest was. She even got a pretty pink bow and a "Best in Show" dog tag. The only reason they did not get 5 stars is because the actual store was not well stocked. They did not have a good selection of collars or leashes. read more

This place must just have terrible management. I walked in a few months ago and was shocked at the state the store was in-- it literally looked like it had been ransacked. Stuff all over the floor, employees were literally stepping over it. I then noticed that a lot of the shelves had things thrown/piles on them with no organization. Employees weren't saying a word about it, just carrying on as if it was normal. I overheard a customer asking if there was a big sale or something happened and the employee simply replied, "No, it just gets messy sometimes." Fast forward to yesterday, I walked in for the first time since then, and it was less messy....but still quite messy. Certain shelves still had things piled on, some of it on the floor. I was looking for bully sticks. I found the aisle where they had their bins of various dog chews and bones, and they were almost completely empty. On the next aisle I found bags of chews and bones hanging up, but realized that not a single one had a price tag on display. All the price tag holders were gone. Whoever is managing this place clearly could care less about the place being clean or organized. I've lived around the area and been there enough times too that I can say they've always been low stocked when I've been there too, it's not even a more recent thing (which I would understand). Kahoots down the street is a much better option and never disappoints. read more

First off I am rating this a one star just because there is no hate it button! This afternoon I took my 5 month old Pomeranian puppy to the groomers at this location and honestly I am furious with the lack of professionalism ! The groomer at first when I took him in he was very rude and looked bothered by my questions (which obviously I asked because it was my first time taking my puppy to get groomed there) I showed this guy a picture of the famous "bear cut" which my puppy already had and needed a trim , and asked him if he had done that cut before and said he has. I left him there at 2:00pm , later when I noticed it was already 5pm and nobody has called me , I immediately called and someone said the groomer was barely working on him. I picked up my puppy at 5:30pm and this is the cut he gets. I am so upset!! Now I question myself, are they really qualified to deal with animals? Are they trained properly to be groomers?
