Very horrible experience! My partner is a fish hobbyist and constantly buys supplies for his tanks. We came in yesterday, andas we waited for our turn to pay, the customer who was already with the cashier left visibly upset with her interaction with the cashier, Ashley. Then it's our turn and ASHLEY was so incredibly rude to my partner and I off the bat. On top of that, she gave us such a hard time, that we ended up being at the cashier counter for way longer than we expected or wanted. She spoke to us with such a RUDE attitude/demeanor then handed us our receipt without saying anything but a loud "NEXT!". My partner and I looked at each other in disbelief about that whole interaction. I'm not asking for a smile, just asking for the employee to not go out of their way to be disrespectful. We purchase tank/fish supplies weekly and will stick to mom and pop shops who treat their customers with respect. PETCO needs to hire employees with actual customer service skills or they will lose customers' money. read more

Service ranges from average to bad. One time it took forever for someone to help me in the fish department. Once he came over, he was nice and friendly; however, the store lacked the product I needed. However, they do have a trainer there who not only teaches classes, but gives free seminars on saturday and tuesday for potty training and obedience, respectively. disappointed with my petco experience. I went to petco to purchase some fish for my tank. Upon looking at the tanks there I noticed a large amount of the tanks had "tanks under observation" which is code for: fishes have infections due to poor care. I should have taken that as a red flag but the employee assured me that the others were fine. After choosing our fishes, the african frog died immediately after being bagged. The employee opted to just aggressively get another one for us instead. Shocked by the man handling of the fish I thought it would stop there. But sadly it didn't. After getting home and correctly acclimating the fish and frog we noticed almost ALL of the fishes were ill and the frog had RED LEG. I have owned many fishes and tanks and have never had this happen to me. I called Petco asking what I can do and how I can get a refund for the sick fish they knowingly sold to me. I was asked why I couldn't just tell the fish were sick? and just to put them in a plastic bag and bring them over. I can gladly say that moving forward I will never support Petco and their horrible care towards their animals and will be shopping from actual specialty stores. read more

Not a huge fan of this location. The staff seem to be a bit inattentive and generally not amused. This is the only pet store location where the staff genuinely seem grumpy. I used the grooming service here for the first time. I normally go to a private groomer but it's usually very expensive. For the price I think you get what you pay for. It's definitely not bad. It could be better. I guess what I missed was the little scarf and perfume they put on her. Overall it was good. Id go back again if I don't have the money to go to my usual groomer. read more

I like coming here better than Petsmart because they have beeter cat toys. Other than that it's the same old same old. Most chain pet stores are exactly the same. They have all the necessities like litter, dry food, wet food, dog food, leashes, collars, tons of toys, then of course all the cute rodant stuff. Makes me miss my bunnie... I digress... I love this Petco location! Close to home and the staff are helpful, friendly and love any fur baby that walks in the door. Right off the freeway and next door to in n out :) we fed our previous dog, Blue Buffalo-grain free. We thought we were getting quality food/treats/teething bones for our two new sons. The worker asked what breed puppies, we have one Husky one German Shepard- it turns out the best food for our breeds is blue buffalo-wilderness! We were so happy for their help and suggestions, as always. Also gave us a great website to checkout for husky puppies. This review is for the grooming services. My dog has been here a few times, it is convenient we usually only have to call a day or two in advance. However I won't be bringing my dog back, my dog is always uneasy when taking him to this particular groomer. The ladies doing his hair also complain all the time that he is difficult. read more

I took our Yorkie today for an 8:00am appointment, they talked me out of the full haircut because she was squeemish with the groomer and very nervous. He said they can do face paws and private area. I come back almost 4 hours later to a dog that aside from the private area and filed nails looked almost exactly like she did when she went in. They did bathe her, but they couldn't trim her face or paws, they didn't even brush her out very well. I feel ripped off and am tempted to demand a refund because groomindales guaranteed me that the could cut her hair. They could have at least brushed her better for the lack of service completed. read more

I purchased a pet turtle for my son and decided to go here first to get things that I would need. Read somethings online as well as the starter pamphlets they provide there and started getting things that were listed. The worker was ok but told me a lot of wrong information. For instance she told us we couldn't put rocks in the tank because turtles aren't smart and eat them, even tho the turtles they sold there had rocks in their tanks.I ended up not buying anything and going to a mom and pop store up the street that were very informative. read more

I purchased a rabbit habitat on line and picked it up in the store. My total was $89.54. I returned the item the following day (in an unopened, undamaged box) and was only given $88.68 credit. Pretty good scheme. I called the store, the customer service line and the on line chat but no one was willing to help. I realize it's only a difference of .86 but that's not the point. Bottom line. This is specifically for grooming by Lupe, she is amazing! Our dog can be very difficult to work with and can get aggravated when people are in his face or messing with him but Lupe can work with him so well we won't let anyone else touch him. I knocked the review down a star because while she was out of town we took our cocker spaniel there and he was only there for 30 minutes before we got a call saying we needed to pick him up because he wasn't cooperating, they barely shaved his back. Thankfully they didn't charge us otherwise that would have been a totally different issue but because of that we had to do a horrible trim at home as he was already overheating. Lupe is back, they say 3 hours, I get a call in under 2. If you take your dog here request her, you'll thank me later. read more

Bad experience with the grooming service. We took our dog for grooming services yesterday, and all of a sudden I got a call saying she had a broken canine tooth and bleeding. The only explanation I got was that she was "acting crazy" when she was placed in the kennel to dry off. My dog has been in kennels at the vet and NEVER have we been told our dog was "acting crazy." Instead, everywhere we go, we've been told our dog is very calm. Even the ER animal hospital where we took her yesterday said she was a very calm dog when they took her to examine her- and it was their first time seeing her! Petco's explanation is not satisfactory- no dog will act erratically without a reason. The "crazy" behavior described by the Petco employee is not sufficient. read more

Took my lab here a couple times before for grooming and it was a decent experience, but today it was just terrible. First I called to make an appointment for 12.30, they say yes so I went to drop Wally off. This young guy (forgot his name) gives me very bad attitude mentioning he was about to go out for a smoke, which he did and didn't receive my dog, then another lady comes to the front and complains about how busy they are and that she's starving and getting in a bad mood, she didn't do the process to receive Wally, just waited for the guy to come back from his cigarette break to do it and he mentions how he has been waiting for us forever, I told him we were on time at 12.30 and he mentions that the appointment got lost (WTW?). When they finally take Wally in, this guy is behind my dog pulling him from behind while my dog is seating, therefore, not going anywhere! Then he goes to try pick it up, Wally is 82 pounds so all he did was just annoy and upset my dog. If this guy just called him, Wally would have followed him easily! 4 hours later (yes 4 hours!!), my dog is finally free. To top things off, Wally's bordetella vaccine was due last month and they didn't ask me for proof to make sure he's healthy enough to be in there with other dogs (he did have his vaccine done). Their attitude, their manners and their care for dogs is just plain awful. I will definitely make it up to Wally with lots of TLC and treats NOT from petco. read more

This is just for the grooming. I always want to give groomers a benefit of the doubt. I came here early this morning, and realized I actually made an appointment with the Torrance store. Which I never groomed with Petco before. So I asked the lady who was older if she can take me since I was in this store already. She was able to take my puppy. I didn't get a very good vibe, but like I said I didn't want to doubt her. I left my puppy for over 4 hours...(and now reading over a few earlier yelper's reviews) My puppy came out with a very choppy look. I was very disappointed. Not just that I had to turn around because she didn't clean my puppy's ear. 4 hours?! If I'm not getting the service I pay for, then why list it as apart of the package? Okay my puppy obviously can't talk for herself, but when I leave her with a big chain stores like "Petco," I expect my puppy's service to be as reputable as they "think." I come to this store pretty often other services reps are very nice and helpful. But grooming is another issue. Please, please Petco if you truly care about making customers happy..we'd be happy to see our fur animals getting at least a "fair!" grooming service. Never grooming with Petco again. Update: I later noticed while playing with my puppy thst her back paw nails didn't get clipped. I was so sadden due to my pyppy having to spend 4 hours alone and afraid and not receiving proper grooming experience. I was able to get a refund. But that doesn't take away the terrible experience. read more

Petco... Where Toto goes! Sadly as much as I love my adorable puppy he's not accepted in most places, I consider Petco his mall. I've go to Petco mainly because of convenience especially when it comes to nail trimming and grooming. He's already entered in the computer system so I don't have to remember to bring a copy of his Rabies shots or updated vaccination. My dogs a Morkie (Yorkie/Maltese Mix) and I personally like his hair to be a little long. I prefer Petco because while I leave him getting his pedi I can easily go shopping for food and other items he may need during the 10 minutes it takes to trim his nails. I previously had a horrific experience with the Encino Petco in the grooming department, I originally requested to have his hair trimmed and they ended up shaving him. Since then I haven't been back for grooming and I'm not 100% confident at other locations, I would definitely want to see a sample of their grooming before I have my dog groomed there. This one is one of my favorite Petco locations, they have a large grooming department and the staff there is extra friendly and do a great job with Toto's nail trim! In addition they have a large dog selection that includes adorable doggie ware, sadly their selections consist of more female clothing - I don't know if Toto lucked out or my wallet. This Petco location also has a Doggie treat buffet where you can select different gourmet treats for your dog. Honestly I never get anything from here, first off I'm not that bougie even though I have a spoiled lap dog, second I have seen people try to give their dogs samples and then toss them back and finally, I have seen flies on the treats. Overall it's a relatively large store and the people there are friendly. When there's a line they usually are quick to open up additional registers and their large variety of shelf items are reasonably priced for the most part. Their holiday section is usually the cutest and well themed! read more

Feeling so mad . Bought a bag of dog chew on 05/09 and the expiration is July 2016. However, when I opened the bag and about to feed it to my dog, there were insects crawling and flying out of the bag. Gross!! And the food inside already had a lot of white & yellowish stuffs look like mold. It was so gross. I went back to store the next day (after the day I opened it) and talked to the manager. I didn't even get an apology from the store manager for selling such this bad quality food supply to customers. read more

I've been coming to this store for a while I'm not a regular but since it's close to my job it's convent to stop by. Yes the cashiers are a hit or miss. I had one older women once that looked frustrated like 3 weeks ago but not today I had a younger girl who was friendly and helpful. I like that this store is well stocked and clean. The staff I've in countered where nice and welcoming. The birds look ok, cages where neat & clean. The offers items for all pets but I enjoy the cats items are unless they have about 4-5 isles of cat food and toys. I hope that this location keep up the good work! read more

I liked Petco as a store but I was soooo disappointed with my dogs' grooming experience here :(. I paid for the upgrade shampoo and conditioner and whatever else specialty stuff they recommended for my 2 year old pit and 12 year old chihuahua totalling over $80 just to get worse results than a basic wash at Petsmart. My chihuahua still had a dingey belly after the wash and they said her skin was just like that because she was old. My pitbulls ears still had dirt and they said they can't really do too much with that because his breed is prone to getting ear infections so they pretty much just left it alone. Then they couldn't finish their nails so they told me to come back 2 days later and I thought ok maybe when I come back they will do more than the nails and finish other things like their ears and such. Sure enough, I told them my concerns about how they don't look and feel freshly cleaned and it's only been 2 days and they just said the same reasons/excuses and only offered another bath for my chihuahua. It's been nearly 3 hours and they are still telling me I have to wait before they finish her up because of other customers ahead of me... um, I shouldn't have had to come back in the first place! Another day wasted here at Petco. Keeping my business with Petsmart since they had my dogs both looking and smelling fresh for over a week after a basic bath, well worth the wait when they're too booked for a walk-in. read more

THEY GAVE MY DOG FLEAS!!!!!!! I will never never be back to this PetCo ever again! Let's start off with the grooming department. The one lady that was working there that morning was slower then dirt! It smelled like old wet dog. Ok I get it, Dogs get wet there but it just smelled bad! And when I went back to get my dog she hadn't even had her nails trimmed. I went to pay the over $40 bill Yes $40 + for a dang bath. I waited in the store so my dog wouldn't see me and try to jump out, cause the dump lazy women that was cutting her nails on a high table didn't even tie up my dog so she wouldn't jump down over 5 feet to the grown. I get what you're thinking, "she's a dog she jumps that's what dogs do....." Yea she does jump, and the last time she jumped from that high she broke her leg! She's a little thing of a dog, about 6 pounds, and a jump from that hi could break something else. But back to the lazy ass groomer. She was cutting her nails and hurt my dog.... My dog bit her!!!!!!!!! My dog has never, ever, ever bitten any groomer ever! She never even bit the vets that were x-raying her broken leg when she was in the Pet ER. She just doesn't bite! So she must have done bad things or hurt her well I was gone. So a week later I noticed my dog had fleas. She hadn't been much out of the house since her grooming trip, and since its been to hot she hasn't gone on any walks. So Hummmm were could those fleas come from? I'm going to say from that dirty lazy witch of a groomer. I made the mistake of going back for some dog food, and that nail filler they sell on TV, because I wasn't going to have her nails trimmed for a while since she was hurt. The store was dirty and messy and didn't have anything in stock. And there didn't seem to be anyone around to help me. And and and! I found that nail filler @ CVS for $10 cheaper!. Shame on the veterinarian that was supposed to be here at 9:15am. I rushed over here to be one of the first ones and was surprised there was already a line. I waited patiently for about 20 minutes and then was told the vet "was running late" about 30 minutes. It is now 10:40am and he's till not here! WTH! Their new remodel is really nice! I love how open it feels now. Only reducing one star since I have seen dog poop right outside the door. If they included doggie bags and a trash can outside that would be ideal in helping clients who have dogs, to clean up after themselves.
