3.5 stars To me, this Petco location is pretty good! I can bring my little guy (toy poodle pup) and he can sniff and prance and look around. They have a nice selection of toys, treats as well as food, some clothing options / clothes line (a little pricey!) and grooming and vet services. So, it's a one-stop shop for sure. I had my dog microchipped here and I've brought him to get his first grooming experience. I had Penelope and she did an OK job. It wasn't the most amazing ever (I wanted him a bit more fluffy, but she did say - and I know this - he hates the blow dryer). But she checked in with me on the size of the cut and how short she should cut. I'll probably bring him again to her. The only downside is that if you try to call the store, you probably won't get an answer. The store seems to be a bit short-staffed and it does get fairly busy so the check out line can get a bit long (with usually just 2 cashiers on). Other than that, it's a good option and I'll continue to frequent it for my pooch's needs. read more

One star is too much! I took my dog for grooming yesterday (6/10). It was her first time; she is 5 months old. I told them that I wanted them to cut a bit around her eyes, her paws, and her private area. I told them that I love her CURLS. I also showed them how I wanted her to look. Shameful, disappointing, and horrible treatment of Betta fish. As a multiple Betta fish owner, they are not merely "just fish." I can attest to them having their own individual quirky little personalities, my last being such a ham and a lover of being photographed. I went in today to look at some Bettas and was just horrified. They are very obviously not cared for, or even fed. The plastic containers contained no food and there were no air holes in the containers. It was a Betta graveyard. Such beautiful fish laying dead, some laying there for obviously quite some time, some looked like new deaths. It was just sad. This place should be ashamed. A store that's a place to care for pets and that does anything but that. Every living being is worthy of care and respect. RIP little babies, you did not deserve that life. I'm only giving this location 2 stars because we have been satisfied with the grooming. Not so much with the customer service. We've been coming here for about a year, since we first got our puppy. Initially, our experience was okay. Angelica, our groomer, took great care of our dog, and my dog also likes her. Once in a while, the appointment starts 15-30 minutes late, but we were okay, because we understand things can get busy and unpredictable. Our last experience was unacceptable. We check-in to our appointment on time, and provided the updated vaccine info. They spent 10 minutes looking for the record we sent that morning, and couldnt find it. We resent it, showed them a copy on our phone, the staff looked at it, told us they got it, and asked us to wait. About 30 minutes later, after the crowd cleared, we asked about the wait time and were asked for the vaccine records again. Showed them on the phone, and after another 15 minutes, they told us the records are insufficient. We can be understanding of their policies, but this cannot be shared with us an hour after our appointment. And pinning this on the new staff is also ridiculous. Management needs to train and supervise properly. Marianne told us that the person we first spoke with is new, said she can't give us our hour back, and turned around, sending us away. Unfortunately, we were also sent home once before already, because they couldn't find the vaccine records that were emailed to them 1 week prior. We have been patient with them the past year and learned to bring a hard copy, but our last experience was ridiculous. We will never go back to this location and seriously have to reconsider before renewing the Vital Care membership. Place is clean, I didn't go see the fish so I can only review on my experience buying some food for my 2 cats. I normally buy cat food online from a different retailer but they only sell food by the case. Petco doesn't have a huge variety of brands but they do sell individual cans in the stores so you can try them before committing to an entire case online. My girls loved Taste of the Wild, $1.29 for 5.5oz. Also bought some Whole Hearted at $1.09 which was probably the cheapest for higher quality food in Petco. I normally buy them Only Natural Pet and others online. I can't imagine feeding my girls Friskies or something similar. Its always best to feed your fur babies the best you can afford. There's always discounts for high quality food on online. The healthier they are, the less money you will have to spend on vet bills. read more

This review is for the employee who helped us out today. We went in looking for a small pet for my 4-year old son (his first pet). We originally wanted a couple of parakeets but those were sold out. Next we went for a hamster and would have taken one if it were not for this very knowledgeable and honest staff member... We were told that the hamster would probably not be good for a 4-year old, and listed several reasons (including, they would likely bite because a 4-year old doesn't really have the motor skills to be gentle enough. Yikes!) Anyway, they could have just sold me the hamster and hundreds of dollars of hamster items and let me walk out the door... instead, they actually cared about us, and more importantly, the animal. I'm sure that is not good for Petco's bottom line, but since I really appreciate the care and honesty, I will certainly be back when new parakeets come in and continue to shop there. The service cost around $100 and I was terrified looking at my pup after picking her up; it was a botched job that looks like it took them less than 5 minutes to do. Amazing humans and employees. They're caring and knowledgeable, and most of all patient. I rescued a dog that never had toys, socialization or a life really. He was always kept in a crate in a basement most of his 1 yr old life. So he's not the easiest to control yet but so loving that he won all the staff over for the ongoing help he needs (and I need too). Like obedience training to start and then dog bowls and food, and shampoo and the list goes on. I look fwd to showing photos of his doggy training and videos of his progress. I really want to like this location and have given it multiple tries, but they may be out of chances. The grooming team is especially bad. I took my dog in for a 10:30 bath and cut. I go about my business and realize about two hours later that I haven't heard from them. Usually it takes 1 or 1.5 hours, so I didn't think much of it. An hour and a half later (3.5 hours after I dropped him off), I call but there's no answer. I go to the store and see two women in the grooming area behind glass. There was no one in the reception area. I knocked on the window and the two women looked at me and then just went back to work. I did it again. Same non-response. So, I look for a manager and explain the situation. They come out and told me that they were behind (oh, really?). I told them that I needed to see my dog to make sure he was okay. The groomer brings him out, calls him "it" on more than one occasion. I tell her, for future reference, when you are behind, it's nice to get a call to let me know that everything is okay, but its taking longer. She tried to give me some line about their new phone. I was told it would take another 45 minutes to finish up with him. More than an hour later, I get the message to come pick him up. Full charge, of course, because who cares about customer service. Total experience was 4.5 hours to do a 1.5-hour cut, never really got an apology--just excuses. read more

I take my puppy to this Petco location regularly for the vaccine package which he finally finished. Yay! Now he can finally get groomed. I always watch puppies getting groomed while our pup would wait to get his vaccines. The groomers are so patient and kind with the pups. I couldn't wait to take mine! Today was finally his turn and he just had a face feet and Fanny with an added on holiday package that included clipping and biding nails, brushing teeth, extended brush out & a holiday scented spritz- basically he got pampered. When returning to pick up my pup I saw him getting his finishing touches and his groomer was sooo sweet and affectionate with my fur boy. He looks and smells amazing! We kept getting compliments on him from everyone on our way out and heading home. Rubi was my pups groomer & highly recommend her. I would give this location a 5th star but they don't always have what I need in stock and the vaccine clinic cancelled on me two weekends in a row. They were amazing aside from that and also affordable in comparison to so many other groomers and vaccine sites. read more

When I came to pick it up as discussed, they no longer had the food and had no recollection of the phone call. The staff seemingly does not communicate with each-other. But I understand that happens with people switch shifts. I asked to talk to a manager who provided awful costumer service. She did not make eye contact with me and was texting the entire time we spoke. The staff at this store seemed truly miserable and every question seemed to bother them. What is it about these little critters that bring joy to our lives. This Petco is fairly medium in size and caters to a few handful of pet products. They have items for dogs, cats, birds, aquatic life,reptiles, etc... I noticed mostly dog food, cat food, cushions, litter bowls, cages, carrying bags, toys and other accessories. One or two special items include ice cream and a non-processed meat shrink wrapped item in the little fridge. I noticed an occasional dog grooming service going on sometimes. They have a handful of adoption viewings with plastic/glass windows to see the cats/dogs up for adoption but seldom are any available at this location, only every once in a while. The have hamster, birds, fish mainly for sale on my most recent visit. Prices range from a cheap one serve canister for the cat to $50 bags of natural chow for the dog. This place is very chill and the staff so-so helpful depending on who. It is clean inside and staff seem to do their job well and answer question in an okay manner. read more

Never let Petco groom your dog especially "Maryanne"....this is what they did to our dog today....the groomer finished and said "it looks horrible"...we asked to make his coat a little shorter....instead she shaved him. When we complain, she lied to the manager and said we instructed her to shave our dog. Groomer then was caught in a lie and said she used one size clipper and there were lines in the coat so she used the next level down and couldn't get rid of the lines so she continue until he had nothing left. Yet she left random parts of his body untouched...the employees were very rude minus the manager who was basically speechless due to the incompetence of one of her employees. read more

I brought my dog in for nail trimming and tooth brushing, arrived on time however it was packed which i can understand it's a Sunday. However what i do have a problem with is when you guys wanted vaccination proof we gave it. One of the staff members said it was ok that it was cleared. We waited to be brought in. This place is a SH!T SHOW. I went here today for the first time, looking for a specific item for my extremely destructive 4 month old poodle puppy. I searched for someone to help me, the employees I saw all had a "don't ask me" vibe. Finally a woman with curly longish gray hair was walking by me and didn't make eye contact (don't ask me). I knew she worked there by the shirt she was wearing, but asked anyway, "do you work here?", I was met with a sigh and a what the F_ck do you want, look. I explained my situation, and what I was looking for, and the only way that she could have more demonstrated her disinterest in my situation, is if she actually said, I don't give a flying F_ck about you or your dog. She just said we don't have that, turned and walked away, as I was still talking to her. I just wandered around the store for about another 20 minutes , looking for anything that might solve my puppy problem. I encountered another employee a young guy, he was nice, but not really knowledgeable. I ended up just grabbing a couple of items and went to the checkout line. That's where the fun really began. There were only 3 people ahead of me, but the guy at the register was so stoned, it took 15 minutes for me to get to the register. I understand weed is now legal in NY, but you can't have someone like this on your register, he's taking 3 times longer than normal and can't count change. While I was waiting on line, there was another employee, right next to the stoner guy, but he was doing returns and wouldn't make eye contact with the people on line, because we'd expect him to open a register. By the time I was second in line, there were 8 people behind me, and only stoner guy checking people put, while the other guy ignored us. To make matters worse, the angry gray haired woman I encountered earlier, came by by 3 times to talk to the guy doing returns at the register next to stoner guy. She didn't look at the clearly angry people on the line either. When it was finally my turn, as I was being checked out, another employee started talking to the stoner guy who was checking me out, about some kind of employee promotion, I was like WTF? So to recap, they don't carry a fairly common item, the staff is rude, not knowledgeable and not coherent and can't even comprehend the simple concept of, if there is a line, and your doing "busy work", open another register. We go to this Petco location regularly and have always had a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and they always give our dachshund love, attention, and cookies! The groomers in particular stand out for their care, friendliness, knowledge, and skill. Years ago we took our dog to a different groomer and had a less than stellar experience, but once we met Rubi at Petco, we were hooked! Our dog adores her and it's clear that she loves him too. She always gives him a fantastic cut and is able to capture his personality in her work, and most importantly we know that he is safe and happy when he is with her. Poor customer service and knowledge. I went to the Petco Junction Blvd. to return an online item and was given a merchandise credit. When I asked why I received this when I paid with a credit card, I was told by staff it was their policy. I further questioned where is it stated and was told it's on the website and to contact customer service. I contacted customer service and was informed that the store need to contact them to process the refund and that I should go back to the store to do this. I normally get my baby Myla groomed by local groomers but I was never fully satisfied with the results until I tried Petco. Make sure to ask for Marian when you go in. She did a phenomenal job on my princess and she smelled soo good for days after her grooming. Not only did she look super cute but I was amazed at how soft and full her hair looked even weeks after (see pics for reference). This Petco is huge and clean. They have bones, plush and non-plush toys. I came here to get some squeaky plush toys for my dogs. They love it and fight over the same toy which looks totally destroyed because they love it so much. I bought the reindeer toy from online and both my dogs loved it. The grooming service at this petco location is spectacular! Rubi is amazing! My puppy (not so much of a puppy anymore) loves her from the beginning. She is so gentle and very thorough with My puppies brushing. I have a very protective German Shepherd and she took to Ruby right away. My puppy comes back to be smelling good and clean. Her nails trimmed and her fur de shedded! I highly recommend Rubi! I have taken my pup to other groomers before this petco opened and they were not able to do a great job and I would have a nervous puppy when she came back. There's one like 3 people working at one time with 2 at the register and 1 in the back doing god knows what. I went to buy some fish for my 30 gallon tank and immediately left and went to my local mom and pop pet store for fish. Texted them that I was there at 11:31am, with no response. I went to petco to get my Morkie groomed. The groomer was very nice and gentle with her. The location in Rego Park allows you to see the groomer work and your little pup is able to see you. I highly recommend and I will be going back. Rubi was my groomer :) read more
