Extremely unkept store, there's homeless encampments on the other side of the fence in the parking lot. There was dog pee on the floor, 1 gross and 2 safety hazard/liability. Who ever it is that works with the fish here are extremely careless. The guy was switching the bettas out of their tiny plastic container but he was rushing aggressively and the poor fish were swishing back and forth. this store always gets me upset at how bad and cruel the workers are. Only once or twice have I seen a worker properly tend to the animals and i've been here MANY times. I live near this area. I'll never shop here or any petco for that matter. Absolutely the best!! My Brother is a developmentally disabled adult. He went in today to purchase new fish and Charlotte went above and beyond to help him select the fish, care for the fish, etc. She was very patient with him and told him to come back whenever he needed assistance. When he had a payment problem, she calmed him down and solved the issue. This Petco doesn't even deserve a one star, but I can't leave 0 stars. Today was the last chance for Petco stores to keep my business, since I haven't been shopping in these godforsaken stores in months. The customer service in here is absolutely disgusting. I went in to purchase a heater and decorations for a 60 gallon tank I just purchased and am in the process of setting up. The tank is not even filled with water yet. I purchased 5 white skirt tetras because they are 5 for $5 and match the black and white theme I have started in the new tank. Sarah is who was on the register today at 2:00pm when I checked out. I had a few price matches from the Petco website. Sarah asked where the fish are going and if the heater I was purchasing was for the tank. I answered her and immediately she responded with, "Well your fish aren't guaranteed then because the heater isn't cycled through." So I corrected her and said they were going in my already established tank that I have had set up for 6 months. She ignored me, and when my transaction was finished she wrote on the receipt, "No guarantee on fish." I brought this to her attention and told her AGAIN the fish were going in my already established tank, and she wrote, "Going in 'another tank'," in quotations because she thinks I'm lying about where I'm putting the fish, which I don't believe is her judgment call to make. My family has already submitted a complaint on Sarah before because she is disgustingly rude, unwelcoming, and condescending. I spent over $80 in the store today because I had a $10 off 30 coupon, and I didn't even get to use it because she distracted me with her attitude. In conclusion, I will not be giving Petco anymore of my money. Will be shopping at Petsmart for all my fish needs from here on out. I just had both my Akitas groomed at Petco grooming - 2 separate days, but had the same groomer for both. I was very pleased with the level of detail Carlos gave both of my dogs! He did an excellent job and I highly recommend him! I will be bringing them back to him! I found myself needing this small store. By unfortunate circumstance, our local Petsmart no longer will be carrying Avoderm products, the one dry dog food I have found acceptible for my Lilly pup, little Miss Finicky herself. But they carry it here. She thinks she should be eating people food, so I still have to do some voodoo, like adding a little wet dog food, or crumbling some Stella and Chewy's biscuits over the top and adding some homemade chicken broth. What crazy things people will do for their pets! Turkey or Duck seems to be her flavor, and they do carry the turkey in large bags. While this is a few more miles down the freeway, at least it is there. And they are competitively priced with Petsmart, with membership card and all. Petsmart is still larger, and seems more organized, a nicer store overall. But keeping the pup happy is my ultimate goal here. So here I will come. read more

I adopted a shelter pup and he has been my Sunshine My lil guy thinks hes a wolf pup now. I encourage Pet Adoption at the local shelters . The Dog Shelter on Van buren would be stoked to see him happy+ brave - Pappi is definitely adjusting very well. Let me just say..... my sweet pup is not feeling the leash or the harnass on his body. Wow! Let me start off by saying that I left this place today happier than I have left any other store in a very long time! I went in stressed out to buy some flea medication for my poodle. I have been worrying about this for a while so of course, I wasn't in the best of moods. However, this changed when I came into contact with the wonderful employees of this store. First employee - by the name of Robert - thoroughly explained which flea medication was the best and how to use both the Topical Prevention and the Flea Collar. He recommended some sprays to help clean my couch as well as different brands for different things. He was extremely helpful and was knowledgeable on the products. I hate going places and asking questions to only get a few words in reply and the typical "I'm not sure, check online". Robert was on top of it and knew exactly what he was talking about. He helped me choose my products! Next, I came across Emmett and Katie. Emmett was awesome!!!!! He price matched some items and I was able to get a better deal than if I were to use my coupons. Money's been kind of tight lately so I was so shocked when he was able to save me at least $40! He was great at customer service and made my father and I feel right at home. He explained in more detail how to work this flea medication and recommended the best product for ya. This is where Katie comes in! Katie was a super awesome addition to this experience. Her and Emmett actually spoke to you, not "at" you. They really treat you like a human here rather than a robot like most places. Over the past year or so, I have been training a Goldendoodle puppy to be a service dog. Since Petco does a lot to support service dog organizations in the area, I try to support Petco with my business. I most often use the Riverside location on Tyler. I have spent several afternoons and evenings at their puppy playtime, which is a great opportunity to allow your puppy to learn how to socialize with other dogs. I especially like the puppy playtime, because it tires my busy boy out and because the playtime is supervised by a dog trainer. I like this, because the trainer is able to nip potential problems in the bud. I also attended puppy training classes at this Petco. I was very satisfied with the course. The instructor was knowledgeable and the class sizes were small. I have also used their grooming services at the Tyler store. Since my puppy already viewed the store as a happy place, taking him to the groomer was a positive experience. I have had my puppy groomed at the Tyler store three times. The first two times I was satisfied with his groom. The third time my puppy's neck got cut. Although I am not happy about the injury, Petco has been very decent in how they have managed this situation. They have provided products to treat the wound, offered to pick up my puppy's vet bill and will be providing me a refund on my groom fee. I believe my puppy's injury occurred because the groomer was working the grooming department totally solo. My puppy was the last dog of the day, the groomer had to be fatigued from a busy day. I am not happy about my puppy being injured, but am please with how Petco managed this issue. read more

I love coming here. I love to just walk around and peek at all the critters. The smell of the store is phenomenal. I wish I could bottle it up and use it as an air freshener. Another reason why I come here is because I started a new diet (it's gunna sound kinda crazy!) and it requires me to eat dog food. Dog food is cheap and doesn't have a lot of calories. So I come here to stock up. I also have a few cat children that I have to provide for so I buy all their necessities here as well. Overall, fantastic store! read more

I'm so disappointed with my experience at petco. We took our two shih tzu/poodles to get their first grooming. My poor baby is now traumatized, because they cut my dog during the grooming. They claimed he wiggled during the grooming, which I'm assuming MOST puppies do! They had to rush my pup to the animal hospital, and he had to get three staples put in him! Although they paid for the vet bill & compensated the grooming. We still had to pay for our other puppy. My baby now has to wait ten days to get his staples out & cant enjoy playing because of this incident. Went into this store for VETCO to get vaccines for my kitten. Not only were they checking and giving shots to animals right in the open in the back on the store, but it was also unsanitary. I did not see once the vet wash her hands or even put on gloves, and right after, she assisted a dog again didn't even wash her hands. The workers seemed very unprofessional, lazy, and did not even give us any information about the shots my cat needed even when asked, only gave us very broad information instead of recommending what he needed since they are the ones that are supposed to know the best right? My complaint is in the afternoon and the sun blazes through the top two windows above the door so blindingly you literally can't even tell what card you're pulling out of your wallet. The guy who I spoke with said yes nail trims are walk ins only and you have to get here before 7:30 to give us enough time. David C is the worst retail manager I have ever experieced in my life. I had a full shopping cart, and was waiting to get fish while David was getting fish for another customer. My turn came, and at 7:30PM he told me he was too busy now and it was time to close the store. I was shocked. I said if he needed to take care of something more important I could wait a few minutes. David said no, I couldn't purchase any fish because he was understaffed, had to close the store, this is how he was trained, and was going to stay 2 hours after closing as it was. I could of had my fish by the time he listed all his excuses, and if he was already planning on staying 2 hours after closing, what's another 2 minutes for a customer with a full shopping cart? I can't believe I have to leave a review this bad. David needs a job that doesn't involve interacting with customers, because his lack of common sense is astonishing. I have a lot of pets and was about to sign up for Petco Pay, but that will definitely not be happening. Petco just lost a lifetime customer. We recently got a rescue. A very large dog with many issues. The employees are not only Kind to our dog but very knowledgeable of products and information relevant to our concerns. Nicole, in training has been so successful training us as well as our dog that we're signed up for the second set of classes for adult dogs. We've had our dog groomed here recently and was very impressed with how much time Brandi took getting acquainted with our dog getting to know the quirks and fears he demonstrates. Overall, so very happy we come here. I hate mentioning names of employees without including all as each one has been so helpful in our transitioning, after 30 years with no pets, back into pet lover mode. I can tell DO NOT to take your PET to be groomed. Over the years i have taken my pets here stopped for two years because the service and the ability for them to keep appointments or schedules. Today the Manager Sarah is the high scale of rude manager she should lose her job. I have an appointment for both dogs (after waiting a month) took the first dog . The second dog they turned away because they said it would take too long to groom but could schedule in another month. I spoke to the manager of the store and she blow me off to talk with Sarah. She then said come get your other dog what terrible person to put a dog in a cage and after 1/2 said come get your dog. I can only think what my dog would have through with SUCH EVIL PERSON. We ask for their corporate office which was a number to know where it was their It DEPARTMENT. I would tell you friends and family to state away and NOT go to PETCO Riverside Tyler. Just had a nasty experience with a cashier named Josie. I was questioning whether or not my $10.00 coupons had been used -- they had, but I hadn't figured out the $8.00 plus tax on my $100.00 order. I was showing her the receipt and I was trying to figure out why my order, after coupons, was still over $90.00 when the whole order, including my donation, was $95.00 BEFORE coupons. Instead of walking me through it, she was condescending, rolling her eyes and smirking, especially once the "manager", Durian/Dorian came up, who looked to be all of 17. The whole time I'm explaining that yes, I overlooked the almost $9.00 in taxes, but I still felt like my coupons weren't applicated, her and Josie were smirking at each other. Durian/Dorian then tells me, in a tone one couldn't take very seriously, that her and Josie "will be having a conversation". I'm sure they will. We shop here all the time, and have for years. We always happily make donations with each visit. If I have a question about my purchase (not to mention why customers are now being charged for bags), then I feel my issues should be addressed without condescension and a nasty tone, which only escalated things to an unpleasant level. The grooming manager at this location is totally inept. Ashley normally groom's my mini Schnauzer, but was off today. The manager and other groomer today totally butchered my mini Schnauzer. They say she was too matted. I explained that this was the condition I always brought my dog in to the groomers. Ashley NEVER once complained about my dog being matted. Ashley just went about her business and ALWAYS did a fantastic job. If you use this location for grooming, ask for Ashley and beware of the others.
