At the petco salon I've found a groomer that I can trust with my dog. Her name is valerie, my dog doesn't come back scared she takes her time with him which is fine with me. 2 hours I can only imagine how difficult that job is. i usually go to this petco just to purchase my dog/cat food because 99% of the time they don't know what they're talking about nutrition wise but want to recommend shtuff but let me tell you today they DROPPED the ball. i was in store looking at fish for about 30 minutes and not one person asked if we need help but i saw an associate taking their sweet time talking to a family. when i was ready i continuously looked for an associate, no one around. i went up to the front and waited patiently to ask one of the associates for help in fish. he said "i'll call someone over" i asked if i should wait by the fish and he said yes. 20 MINUTES LATER no one shows meanwhile i saw one associate filling online orders and another literally just staring at their products like they were shopping. looks like petco just lost out on $150+ dollars because i'll take my business to petsmart down the street and get service there. read more

I really like coming to this Petco grooming service because of the friendly and pet-knowledgeable groomers. Erica, my dog's groomer, is so polite, friendly and diligent. She takes the time to explain all the haircut styles and what she thinks will be suitable for my dog's breed. She has treated my dog extremely nice and groomed her to precision. Erica has also been very flexible with changing appointments two or three days prior due to my vehicle being out-of-service. She always has a big smile for us when we come in. So far, she is the only groomer that I trust to groom my dog and I really like her bubbly personality. She gets "two thumbs up" for the excellent work she does and her priceless smile. This petco is probably one of the kind (in a bad way). I went in to get some small comet goldfish for my little fish tank in the backyard, they were like 20 cents each. People use them to feed other fish but i keep them as pet. I wanted to get 20 of them and they didnt wanna sell them to me. They said they can only sell 2 of them because of my purpose. I asked them what if i wanna use them to feed my big fish, and they said no because I already said im gonna keep them as pet and they r gonna grow bigger in 20-30 years .... like are you kidding me? I had these fish for 3 years and they died thats why i wanna get new ones. And i dont just throw my fish away, i buried them. Let me take care of my pets, you dont need to tell me what to do, what i should do and how many i should get. Rudest customer service ever. I even asked them if i can just get 5 then, and the girl was like "no my manager said u can only get 2 because 5 would destroy our environment" ... WTH????? I made an appt at the groomer center and the girl gave me the date and time. So finally the tome has come and my husband gets there to take our puppy and the girl says "your appt was at 11:30 not 1:30. We let them know Petco left us a voicemail with the time and appt time of 1:30 yet she stated the person probably read it wrong. Didn't even bother to try to fix the solution after we waited already 3 weeks for an appt and for this to happen!!! Ridiculous and very unprofessional. My animal died three weeks after having him and they wouldn't give me a refund because I was out of town and couldn't go to the store within the 30 days and I called on the 31st saying he died a week prior and they said sorry there's nothing we can do for you and I spent a lot of money there they lost my business he came home with pneumonia from that Petco they must be sick there not cool at all I loved him they are cruel! read more

Great grooming service. The stylists were very friendly, social, and had lots of care while grooming my small Maltipoo. He loved them just as much as I did. Although, some of the products petco carries (more specifically, choke collars) bother me a lot, I can't deny their awesome grooming. I was told he'd be done in an hour, and he was! Fastest service I've ever had. Petsmart usually keeps my pooch from 11am to 3pm just for a bath, and they charge me almost 20 bucks more then Petco does. I can safely say they've just stolen a loyal petsmart customer ;) read more

We have been going to this place for a while now because it's the only Petco in our area. We have heard good about the Petco yearly Services you can get for your dogs. So we decided to get the yearly service but every single time we come in they always seem to try to overcharge us for something. The people here seem to be very unprofessional and so far for the past couple of months we have had a pretty bad experience. I think there's another Petco opening up near us and we'll just be going to that one instead. read more

I just got back from taking my 8 month old puppy to her first pet store. She was immediately greeted by the store manager Sherry with a treat because my dog was really scared. But she felt better after that. She ten showed me to the food bowls and explained them. VERY HELPFUL. Then when we were checking out, Niccole and Linda wanted to pet my dog and gave her treats and even sat on the floor because my dog was nervous. They were very very very helpful and sweet and I will be coming back to this store for all my pet needs with Olivia. read more

Unfortunately I don't take my Siberian Husky here anymore because they kept the dog for an excessive amount of time on more than one occasion, and didn't have the professionalism to call the owner. I have had to wait for hours longer than necessary, only to find out that because nobody bothered to call, the poor dog had been caged for hours, waiting to be picked up. There is no excuse for this kind of unprofessionalism. The other groomers in the area are much better - I have had better service at Tender Touch, for example. I sometimes come in to have my two dogs' teeth brushed, but I do not trust the groomers to hold my dogs for a bath or other services. I hope the Petco manager reads these reviews and corrects the situation. read more

This Petco is smaller than other locations I've been to. It's not very spacious. The tight spaces aren't convenient if you want to take your dog with you. At times, some products are out of stock. I usually dont have any problems with Petco in general, but will no longer continue to shop here. I went in to buy flea and tick medicine for my two dogs. When I was checking out the cashier suggested I get a different type, so I did. Turns out the kind that she suggested was extremely dangerous and basically poison for my dogs. Luckily I did some research when I noticed my pups acting weird after I applied the medicine and was able to wash it off before there was any damage. Sentry flea and tick is a terrible product that has even killed animals, and the fact that it was specifically recommended to me is awful. This product shouldn't even be sold! When I returned the product they were not even phased by the fact that they suggested and sell such a harmful product. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. read more

If those of you didn't already know, in July my puppy Otis passed away suddenly after a visit to PETCO. Basically, i sent him back for a routine puppy cut and i got a call 40mins after saying to come pick him up he fainted or had a seizer during his bath. I found myself very confused because my dog was perfectly fine before me taking him to get groomed. I took him to the vet right away and they said he was perfectly healthy, but he had fluid in his lungs caused by a blow in the chest or an electrical shock. Well, nobody ever touched him in a violent way and he had no way of biting a cord or getting shocked in anyother way at home. The sad part of the story is that we spent all the money we could to try to save Otis, but it's not about money...its the fact that this innocent puppy had to suffer a whole night... The wierd thing is, the PETCO groomers were acting very suspicious. When my family and I went to pick him up, they all looked scared and like they weren't telling us the whole truth. Then, those employees called numerous times through out the day to get Otis's status. But the reason behind this letter was the fact that the male i spoke to on the phone stated Otis fainted while taking his bath. Well, he then told my mom Otis fainted when they were introducing the clippers to him. First of all, Otis has been there before...so there was no need to "introduce" anything to him. Then i realized, why would they blow dry a dog that supposibly collapsed during his bath?.... Today, after a 21/2 month wait for a response, we recieved a letter in the mail from corprate basically saying..."we are sorry for your loss. We reviewed the videos and can not discuss what occurred or show you them, but will assure that the proper disapline is taking place towards those employees involved with the incident involving Otis and we sincerely apologized for what occurred." DO NOT SEND YOUR DOGS TO PETCO TO GET GROOMED. if those employees would have just said...this is what happened and take him to the vet, we would have not let that poor puppy suffer all night with no oxygen and pain thinking he was going to get better. Nothing can bring Otis back but i just can not believe we were lied to this entire time. It was bad enough that they make you leave your pets there for 4hours locked up in a kennel, but my gosh they cut my family real deep. Im sorry otis.... read more

I love going to Petco to pick up some treats and toys for my cat and other pets but the costumer service is a little bit lame, I always have to wonder the store to try to find someone. I have been coming here since they open to have my dog, Annie, (Also a Shih tzu} washed and groomed by Sean. They have never kept my dog more than 5 hours. They do great work and are very friendly. They have called me each time to let me know shes done. I recommend this place since I have tried Pet-smart a few times, before Petco was opened. There I had to wait as much as 9 hours before they called me and also I went in thinking my dog was done just to see the groomer cut my dogs paw then they did it again on her other paw. They even had to take her to the vets inside the store to get the bleeding to stopped. That time I had waited 6 hours before I went in to pick her up. I can understand that it happens but not on both paws. My dog wasn't even moving for her to cut the paws like she did. But Petco has been really great ! read more

And cause she has a heart murmur that she was born with it. Said I had to the take her to the vet to get the doctors okay. Holly was one of the nicest groomers my Charlie met and did a spectacular job on him even though we were only a walk in. Not only that but the cashiers were so nice and spoiled my boy with treats. Took half a day. Groomer was rude and condescending. Looks like dogs are all dropped off at the same time in the morning when the contracted groomers roll in and start trying to figure out the schedule. My dog was not happy at pickup, and she's a very overhappy dog. Icing on the cake: Groomer said she could not do a good job because my dog wiggles too much; she then charged us $10 extra because she had to get assistance from another groomer. Really. Not sure where their groomers come from, it's all quite impersonal and assembly-linish. I'll stay local from now on with proven and affordable groomers such as Thrifty or Happy Pets. read more

I went into the store today to purchase a hamster and an employee named Katrina (young woman with dyed hair) gave us TERRIBLE service. she was very rude and would tell us she wouldn't sell us the hamster until we bought the most expensive items and didn't believe us when we said we had a tank and other supplies at home. The same employee gave my brother terrible service again when he went to get a snake. he asked to see a snake that he had handled before since he had his eye on it she wouldn't let him see it because it was "mean" but he held it before and she didn't say anything then. she had the same excuse for ALL the other snakes in the store. i understand she cares for these animals but if she wants them to get a good home she needs to stop being so rude read more

Horrible!!!! I have seen many in compassionate people in my life and this lady that worked there at the bird section was one of them I brought this little new born bird that fell from a nest and was left in the sun for a long period of time we just barely gotten home in the afternoon so we couldn't just leave the poor thing there so we decided to go to petco and ask what we could do and the lady had the nerve to say give it to a rescue or basically to let it die there isn't anything we could do about it. Like wtf? She didn't think anything of it didn't look at the bird and was in a rush to do something else. She didn't feel bad for the little bird. Can't believe petco has workers like that for a pet store but I guess it's just another paycheck. Never going here ever again. I have 5 huskies and a kitten all there all well taken care of and with a pet plan. For a pet lover or someone who has a heart and is compassionate for others no matter color, gender or an animal shouldn't matter as long as they can help them even if it's about to die anyone would do there best to keep it alive or anything in there power to see it a bit better...at the end of the day we went to another pet store Petsmart this awesome lady told my bf to give him baby bird food for the time and hope for the best. I made an appointment for my dog Snowflake at 11:30 am. At 2:30 I hadn't received a call to see if he was finished so I called. Desirae informed me he would be ready hopefully by 3:30 or 4. I was slightly annoyed as I didn't see the point of making an appointment if it was going to take 5 hours but I pleasantly said thank you and would wait on a call back. Around 3:30 Desirae called me to inform me Snowflake "didn't like" the shaving process and was flipping around on the table. Out of concern for his safety I should pick him up. At this point I was EXTREMELY annoyed because I couldn't see why it had taken 5 WHOLE hours to even get to him. She had also mentioned he may in the future need to be completely shaved as some of his hair was matted and since that's not what I wanted she didn't want to continue. For this I'm wondering shouldn't she have just ASKED if I wanted him shaved down to rid him of the knots. I picked him up and he hadn't been bathed or anything just a strip of hair shaved off his back and a part hanging over on his bottom area that hadn't been shaved completely off. My dog looked an ABSOLUTE mess!!! She then informed me I wouldn't have to pay! Not that I would have anyway! I will never bring my dog here again! ONLY reason I made this appointment was due to the lady at Thrifty Pet Grooming on Frederick being booked! read more

So ive been shopping at this petco for over two years now. Easily over a $grand$ ive spent at this petco. Upon trying to buy some feeder mice i was met with the same legal paperwork that petco is required to have you sign when buying a living pet. No worries i think to myself as i always sign my name and then just write decline to provide my address and such and there has never been a problem. This time though when i filled out the paperwork the exact same way i was told that i need to fill it all out or they could not sell me the feeder mice. The person was new to working there so i figured if i spoke to the woman at the cashier she would be able to help me out. She told me i was right in that i didnt need to provide every piece of info, yet made zero effort to tell the other petco worker who had been dealing with me at first. Instead she just stated that i didnt need to fill it out. She made no effort to inform the coworker of this and due to the frustration of dealing with incompetence i decided to spend my money elsewhere. read more

I use the grooming salon at this Petco for my Shih tzu. I have always been pleased with the wash & cut they give my dog, and the prices keep me coming back. The biggest con is the huge amount of time they keep the dog in order to do the grooming. When I drop him off, they usually give me an estimate of being done in 5 hours! And then they always fail to call me let me know he's done. Anyway, I think the work and price make this slow grooming salon worth the hassel. read more
