The grooming salon workers are super great. If not for them, this review would get 1 star. The cashier named Memphis was super unpleasant and I'm actually afraid of her now such that I wouldn't want to come to this Petco again. She wasn't friendly in the slightest when I asked her to correct the price of my item to the website's price. Then I got confused about my total and she didn't even bother to break down my total purchase (3 items) to help me understand. She got really frustrated with me for asking only a few clarifying questions. She was either having a bad day or never learned good customer service. read more

Since there is no option for ZERO STARS I guess the best thing I can do is warn others. They cut my dogs neck with clippers. I didn't notice until days later that it was scabbed. I confronted the manager but since her terrible attitude and terrible customer service were the first thing I noticed when I walked in, I didn't expect to get anywhere unfortunately. She'll just keep doing it to other pets. By the way she acted I'm sure she's gotten away with it before. All I can recommend is always check your pets right after you get them groomed especially at this place. read more

Hate doing business with this location. The service is awful. Just awful and full of attitude. I can't believe this is a pet store with such unhappy people at the cashier registers. They rarely have bags and their justification is because "this is California". They don't honor their sales and find very technical terms to not honor it. I've frequented here and bought kitten food on several occasions. Today the lady with the blonde hair and beanie and red nails didn't honor the sale. She said cat food is not kitten food. Are you literally saying kittens are not cats? I have kittens and buy kitten food all the time with the sales that say cat food and the brand. It works. If it excludes kitten food they should say that. But "thanks" to her I "saved" money by deciding not to buy any of the food since they didn't honor their sale. Not going to buy my cat food from here anymore since they don't honor sales and only know how to hold up the line so they can find ways to justify not honoring the sale. Took my french bulldog for a nail trim and buffing because her nails were getting long and I'm not able to do by myself. I was particularly interested in her dew claws getting trimmed because they grow fast and were particularly long and I don't want her to incur injury. I mentioned to the tech to make sure she would trim those and was assured it would be taken care of. My dog was very excited when I brought her in, maybe because she was happy to see everyone or maybe she was nervous. She has been there a number of times, ever since she was a puppy - she's now four years old. Anyhow i picked her up and asked the tech how she had behaved and the tech told me she 'was extra playful." I paid, gave her a 20% tip and went home. Later that night when I was checking her nails everything was good and nails were buffed but I noticed they did NOT cut her dew claws, my main concern. I called back the next day - Friday - and was told there was no availability that day but they could take her first thing Saturday morning and finish the job . Saturday morning comes and before I am able to take her in the manager calls me and says they can't do the service because my dog's rabies vaccine was expired, as of that day (Saturday) and they can't work on any animals with expired vaccines, especially my dog since she was so active when I brought her in on Thursday. So now I have to wait to get an appointment for the vaccine and Petco won't even do the service the day of vaccination, I have to wait an additional day. This puts me out at least another few days, possibly a week or more since I checked a couple places already and they don't have any available appointments - San Diego Humane Society being one of them. My thought is they just don't want to do it, even though I already paid. I'm hoping my dog doesn't catch her nail on something and tear it before I'm able to get her shot. Why does this notification only show up on the day of expiration? I'm really upset and disappointed in Petco right now, they are my regular source of pet supplies and grooming services for my three dogs but I will be reconsidering this going forward. There are plenty of other options and places for me to spend my money. read more

I come here every now and then. Every once in a while I come in here to grab some doggy/pup stuff. It can get a little busy here so beware and be patient! I feel like they could use more cashiers perhaps? I came here about a week ago to get a travel luggage for my little puppy so I could put her in it while I'm driving far and EVERYTHING was so pricey ): But THANKFULLY I asked someone to help me and we kept scanning different bags and I found one for 50% off!! Sherpa brand. WHAT A STEAL only $20 instead of $40 (: The prices here are def more expensive than petsmart and other pet places I have been to. I only like coming here when I know there is a good deal going on. I have came here a while back to get my pup his shots and they are pretty good at it. I live close to this location and been going since 2018 for my dog Bellamy's needs. The staff is so friendly here! Everyone has been so nice over the years. They recognize Bellamy and give him hellos and pets. Eric on the floor is very sweet and helpful. He always checks if I need help. As well, Casey has been so awesome! We love seeing him. He's a hard worker plus friendly which is a rare combo to see. He helped Bellamy get used to his nails being trimmed to the point where Bellamy is not happy to into the grooming room but he approaches the door to greet Casey and somewhat willingly go back with him. Huge difference from the protest, slipping and sliding trying to get away and hiding in the corner shivering to now where he complies and is scared-happy to see Casey haha. My husband and I brought our dogs here for a haircut. KATYANA, the person who was supposed to cut my dog's hair, I asked her not to cut my dog's ears hair and tail, she very rudely turned her back on us and rolled her eyes as if she didn't like that we asked her to. Her behavior was so rude that my husband and I were shocked and just looked at each other for a few seconds!!!! In the end she didn't listen to us and cut my dog's ears hair and gave my dog the ugliest haircut ever. I don't understand, so what does customer service mean?! I paid a lot of money for rude and disrespectful treatment and a horrible haircut because as a dog OWNER I requested that my dog's ears hair and tail hair not be trimmed. I wish someone would take care of this review so that no one would be bothered by katyana's rudeness and disrespect. I always go to this petco for all my pet needs! They have a Thrive Vet and grooming. My dogs utilize both the groomers and Thrive. Eric always provides exceptional customer service whenever I am there! He is always delightful and makes my family and I love coming back here. He always goes above and beyond with helping you and whatever your pet needs. There is one girl though who is always rude whenever my family and I come, and we go pretty often. Her name is Rachel who is usually she is at the cash registers or I believe is a dog trainer. She seems to always be in a bad mood whenever we pick up an order or purchase something and for some reason we always encounter her whenever we go. read more

What an amazing service! My pup came in with super outgrown winter coat with knots (was literally a rag mess) and left with clean smelling cute looking doggy. I choose a very short cut because her hair grows pretty fast so I was nervous it won't look good on her but Petco nailed it! Niki the groomer was amazing with her even though my pup Chloe was resisting the service on her paw. Casey was also awesome on my pug, same thing, she is very hard to get her nails cut but he did it super quick and nicely. My puppy just finished his level 1 puppy classes and graduated w/ flying colors :) He's starting his level 2 classes this weekend, so we'll be coming around for another 6 weeks at least. He's also coming to Puppy Social Hour on Saturdays at 2pm. This is a really great way to socialize your pup in a controlled environment. The 2 trainers, Felicia and Julianne, are there to monitor the pups and make sure that things don't get out of hand. Felicia is Rocco's trainer and she encouraged us to start bringing him and it's been great so far! He's really learning how to interact and it's been a lot of fun for us to watch. As far as the store goes, it's overpriced and that's why I gets 4 stars instead of 5. The clearance items are decently priced, but everything else...I can find on Amazon for half the price. read more

The first time I scheduled an appointment at this location, I waited a couple of weeks because it was all booked. A week before the appointment, I received a call from them cancelling my appointment due to remodeling. I was bummed out because I was looking forward to get my shih-tzu groomed. Anyhow, I waited a couple more weeks until I was able to reschedule. I was so hesitant to bring in my furry baby. When I got to the place, I noticed it was packed. As soon as I walked into the lobby, the girl looked at me and said in a annoyed tone, "how can I help you?" With a big smile on my face I told her I was here for my appointment. She then asked for my vaccination record so I handed it to her. As soon as she saw it she grabbed it and said we cannot accept this. While she was scanning through the pages, she said, with a nasty look and voice, "Were these shots taken out of the country? I replied yes, they were taken in Mexico. She then said, vaccines outside of country are not accepted here. When she said that I got so mad because if I would have known this before I would have never waited this long. Also, the website does not mention anything about not accepting out of country vaccines. Please update your info. read more

Wish I could give them 0 stars for lack of customer service. I've been bringing my dog here for grooming for over a year and hardly ever had any issues prior to today. The groomers have always been really nice and timely. Today I got a message my appointment was cancelled due to someone calling out sick, (which I understand, things happen). But knowing this petco books weeks in advance, I booked this appointment three weeks ago. When speaking to two different ladies on the phone, I was appalled at their lack of ability to speak to someone in a professional and appropriate manner. I indicated I can only do weekend appointments and need to get in ASAP. This is on Petco for cancelling me & scheduling me the next soonest 3-4 weeks out is not going to do. Come in early, stay late, double book, comp my next grooming, whatever it is, you were in the wrong here, not I and both the ladies on the phone just argued with me versus offering solutions. I will not be returning to this Petco and I hope the General Manager re-trains these employees on how to talk to a customer (because they sure do need it!) read more

The girl with long nails, tattoos and nose piercing was RUDE and did not speak calmly or professional to us as customer. I believe her name is Nikki. Do not recommend her at all, who knows how she treat ur dog behind closed doors. We had apt on Nov 11 at 11:45am and arrived on time, she started telling us there was too many big dogs appointment today and she doesnt have any space or crate for my dog. She told us "doesnt know what to do" with attitude voice and we said we make apt month ago and she could have call us before we head over. And she said it just happened 10mins ago so she doesnt have time to call us. She offered us to come back next Saturday with 20% off so we agreed . Next Sat 11/18 we were 15mins late due to traffic, and she denied to take our dog. She was supper rude and criticize my dog for being too large. We should've just told her NO at the first time since we had appointment months ago plus arrived on time, shouldn't do her favor it was her problem and she was making like ours fault. We've stopped in a couple of times the past couple of days. Just got a 3 month german shepherd & spoiling her. Hubby bought about $200 worth of dog necessities, the day we got our puppy. A couple of chew toys, one that's chicken flavored. Two rope toys, which she loves to play. Even a star wars Chewbacca that she sleeps with haha! I went yesterday to buy some shampoo. Not really sure of what to buy at first. Did some research online & read the reviews. Ended up getting her Burt bees shampoo + conditioner. She's been itching so I am not sure if its allergies or bugs. The review that I read said they had the same type of dog & recommended this. No staff around to ask any questions. I'm giving this Petco 5 stars!! 1 - they always have my dog's dog food. I've been to 2 other Petco's and they never have my dog's food. When I ask about it they tell me to order it online. 2 - they have to he friendliest groomers and my dog always comes back with a good haircut. My dog is a mini schnauzer and I used to take her to another Petco to be groomed and she never had a consistent haircut. I would always have to go home and fix. At the Mira Mesa Petco, Michelle, my dog's groomer is always consistent with her mini schnauzer haircut. Michelle is friendly and caring. I appreciate those who treat my dog good! read more

Niki in the Grooming Services did an amazing job with my dog, Wyatt I brought him in for his first grooming appointment. I forgot to bring his vax record and was delayed 30min getting the information for him. Niki was so patient and allowed Wyatt to have his appt after all was confirmed, despite the delay. THANK YOU Niki! Wyatt was so happy to be there, and I could tell she made him feel very safe and loved. I am bringing my 2nd dog in two weeks to Niki. They have what I need- simply. But honestly, what lead me to this review at all, is a kind representative & very hospitable staff member who is easy to talk to and friendly every time I enter... Memphis! She's funny, kind and makes friends with every customer. Her friendly customer service is so appreciated amidst a not so kind society & "pandemic" situation. Agree with other posters on poor customer service and them treating customers poorly...need better training and be more helpful. There were 2 employees in the fish area and I was looking to get some fish but not once offered any service or even a hello from either of them after standing there for 10 mins. I decided to ask a question on the difference between the two fish...one said blue ram and the other said electric blue ram and the fish looked different around the eyes....she looked at me with a cringe like dont bother me and replied back sarcastically...."like the color". Don't waste your time trying to get your dog groomed here! On my first walk-in attempt, the grooming department was closed even though it said they were open online. An associate told me the groomers leave early if there are no appointments are booked. Then I couldn't book the services I wanted online and was recommended to walk-in instead. Next I tried calling them on two separate days but no one answered each time. On my final walk-in attempt, the groomer told me she couldn't fit me in until the end of the day and they didn't have any openings on the next day. Clearly they don't value their customers. We had an initial training session for our foster dog with Rachel tonight. We will have to work with a behaviorist before we return but I have to say I really appreciate Rachel's approach and philosophy. She was so patient with my dog, my 4 year old kid and I during our session tonight. She was very candid, yet sensitive, about what and how to work on some of our foster's issues. We are inexperienced dog people so I asked a million questions and she was so understanding. I look forward to joining one of her groups classes soon. read more

Kelton was really friendly when we checked out and gave us some great dog stories! 5 stars for Kelton! I don't understand why people complain about the prices of the stuff here- you come in expecting to pay retail price because it is a Petco and it is a chain pet supply store. If you want cheaper stuff, go to Walmart or Amazon.com or even Ross and Marshall's has some dog stuff. Don't give the store a lower rating because of the prices that they can't control! Bad experience. Its normally my wife who comes and pick up dog food but i was on my way home and she asked if i can stop by. I go straight to the bathroom to do the needful. As you can see from my pic, the jon was already occupied. If they just let all the animals go run amuck, there may not be any of these in the bathroom. Another thing about this store is they are constantly moving things around which makes it hard to go straight to what you need. A plus is that there are labels for easy finding of the brand you are looking for. I go to the register and the cashier is chit chattin away. Only 2 people ahead of me so i didnt mind too much, so i lay my dog food on the counter and leaned over it to go on my phone while I wait. Its my turn and a lady just walks right past me to the cashier and the cashier didnt say anything and rang her up. I didnt want to make a scene so i let it go. Not worth it.
