The time has come that we have gotten a puppy! Growing up we had dogs at Kahoots was always our go to store to go to for dog food, treats, and all the great basics. The people who work here are truly the best and super kind and knowledgeable. We came in for some dog food and also got a bully stick for our pup as well. When we checked out the employee gave us some sample bags of the kahoots brand food which was so nice considering we have to figure out what brands and foods he likes most as a growing pup. Excellent location. Very big with lots of choices. Upon checkout I was asking about their brand of dog food for a potential switch, and I was given 6 different sample bags for the dogs to try! We adore this store and the employees. I can't say enough good things about Kahoots (all locations) but this is our home store. The employees have great customer service and really show they care for all animals who visit. Every time we walk through the door, they know my girls names, greet us, give us treats and have a wealth of knowledge to share when it comes to any questions about nutrition, treat comparison, anything grooming related. They always have different incentives and drawings, they host rescue events, vet clinics, and free community events where you can take photos with your pups (animals), get cupcakes, dog friendly ice cream/whipped cream, etc. We'e been to many. Every Kahoots store we've been to, Solana Beach, Poway, Rancho Bernardo, we're met with the same greeting and knowledge. What's more is they carry an amazing assortment of products. I could go on and on about the trusted brands they carry that we use to keep our girls healthy and eating a nutritious diet. They even have their own brand of dog food and treats. Some of our favorites include the beef and lamb lung, and beef or turkey chips. We've also just bought (but haven't tried) their raw patties. If you visit them and have questions, they always have well informed answers. Last plug is that their prices are competitive and I find in many cases cheaper than the competition and even online (amazon or chewy!) I was looking for some birthday treats for my dog and I called Kahoots to inquire about what they had in the store. Anabelle was very friendly over the phone and mentioned all the different options they had: cake mix, ice cream mix, "pie", treats. I headed into Kahoots later that day and I was able to find the birthday area myself and proceeded to text my husband all the options we had. One of the employees working asked if I needed any help and also asked about my dog, which I thought was very nice. I ended up getting some pumpkin cake mix and cod skin treats. Anabelle actually rang me up at the register and when I mentioned that I had what I needed for my dog's birthday after she asked if I found everything, she recalled that I had phoned earlier. Staff was friendly and pricing comparable to other more upscale pet stores I go to. I am sure my dog will love the cake! read more

Kahoots is so much friendlier than your big chain pet stores. The staff here is always friendly and give you the best customer service. It's like they care more about the animals here than at the other big pet stores. Every time I come in here with my dog they always give her the best attention. They are quick to give her treats and scratches. They are also very knowledgeable in pet supplies. I asked what the best dog food would be for my puppy and they told me all the breakdown of what they had in stock. I really appreciate that cuz I know my dog has a sensitive stomach. Prices here a little bit higher than other places but it's worth it just to get the personal customer care that they promote here. Bad thing is I end up getting more than what I expected when I came. I enjoy going to the Kahoots Pet Store, in Rancho Penasquitos. One reason is Erica, who is so friendly, knowledgeable, and an over all delight to talk to. Actually, everyone at Kahoots PQ, is friendly and helpful, but I have had the pleasure to interact with Erica, most recently, about my dog's digestive issues. The vet wanted him on a special diet, which he hated. I tried several other pet foods that fit the criterion that the vet described, but, again, my dog would rather not eat the food prescribed. With so many folks wanting to ask Erica questions about the product's offered, or advice about their pet, I waited my turn and she was able to think of just the right food that would satisfy both the vet, and my discerning dog's palette. Kahoots PQ is a very friendly place where, I noticed, people tend to congregate around the bird, Willie Nelson, and talk about their pets. My dog loves going there too! He is greeted and welcomed as I am and we enjoy a trip there several times each month. My husband and I went to one of their adoption events last weekend and we ended up bringing a puppy home with us. Before leaving the store we decided we should buy a few things for the new pup, so Emily offered to help us. Emily was nothing short of helpful, friendly, and just such a pleasure to deal with. She helped us try on different harness and collars on our puppy until we found one we were happy with and helped us find the proper food for it too. This location for the Kahoots Pet Store branch is the BEST I have ever been to in San Diego. The employees are always SO friendly, GENUINE, knowledgeable and the list goes on. Primarly, this review is for Erica/Erika (spelling?) - the manager. =) Every time I walk into the store and she is there, she always is so welcoming to me and everyone. I specifically had a question about raw dog food and she was so knowledgeable on it. She also offered me a variety of selections they have here at the store. Also when my dog is not feeling well and had an upset stomach, she recommended the pumpkin purée to me and also one in powder form I believe. They 95% of the time have everything I am looking for in stock except for the Turkey jerky but I called all Kahoots pet stores basically in San Diego and they were all out including this one but that's OK - I don't believe it was the store's fault. And, from time to time, they offer teeth cleanings for animals, specifically dogs! I haven't taken my dog yet for it because she hasn't needed it since I brush almost daily but if that's what you're looking for they have this option here. It's very easy to find parking and very easy to locate the store. They hire the best staff here and overall their service is amazing. Two words. G pig. Yeah. Ya hurrrd me. I'd like to say I come in here to buy treats for my pups but truth be told - I love staring at their g pigs. That's what my mom calls guinea pigs. Hence why I call them that. I was originally peeved at this store (when they first moved in this strip mall few years ago) as they probably bankrupted the small mom and pop pet store that resided in the same mall. Not that I was a fan of that mom and pop store. It's just the whole David and Goliath thing. You know. I'm weird like that. But I've been coming into this Kahoots location for some time now and I have to say that the employees are so friendly and knowledgeable. The pet treats here also seem more affordable than their personal Goliath competitor (hello Petco and Pet Smart). The store is always super clean and organized as well. I stopped in today after lunch because, um, I kinda *mentally* adopted a g pig that I've been eyeing for several months. Poor "Patches" (that's what the store, not me ok, named him) has been there for several months and I feared the worse for him. I wuv him. I was distraught when I didn't see Patches today. The awesomingly amazing girls that work here (Mai Ling and Robin) took the time to explain what happened to Patches (he went back to his Holistic breeder). Mai Ling also went out of her way to educate me about g pigs too (costs of owning one, their diet, maintenance). I was blown away by her knowledge and just over all genuine care she had for animals in general. So there ya have it. My diatribe about g pigs. The End. Oh I did buy two dog treats for the pups . Staff is always so helpful! Steven helped so much about choosing the perfect dog food for my Frenchie who just had pancreatitis. He's allergic to chicken and starch. Got a new puppy earlier this year and he starting ripping things up to shreds. From seeing that and experiencing painful little hand bites, I quickly learned that puppies - albeit very adorable - have razor sharp teeth that can really cut ya! He tore up Nylabones like there was no tomorrow, so I was beginning to get concerned about how much he might be actually ingesting. I turned to Kahoots for more natural options and they did not disappoint! The manager at this location was so helpful and you can see that she really cares about her store and customers. All of her recommendations (bully sticks, yak chews and beef cheek rolls) have been a hit with the little fur baby. Alas, no more razor teeth bites for me!! I am a surprised, but enthusiastic customer! We purchased two betta fish here and received the best customer service. We purchased my son's betta fish at one of the local fish specialty stores. We thought we did everything right - went in several weeks ahead of time to get info on what we needed, set up the tank as they described, purchased a heater, water conditioner, and bacteria starter, and then we waited a week before we allowed him to bring home the fish. Acclimated him to the tank as they described, and he died within 48 hours. Bought a kit to test the water and didn't see anything major wrong, so we got a second fish which died in 48 hours. Meanwhile, we did the same set-up with my daughter but took her to Kahoots. A woman with brown hair helped us (wish I caught her name because she was so, so helpful), and my daughter's fish did great! Went back to Kahoots to see if they could solve the problem of my son's fish. They tested our water (for free!) and didn't see anything major wrong (our water is a little hard), and then the same woman asked us where we bought the fish. She said that the specialty store uses a special kind of water, and that the Kahoots fish are in Arrow Head. We got my son a new fish, used Arrow Head water, and his fish is living and so, so happy! So two dead fish with specialty store and two happy fish with Kahoots! the woman helping us was so knowledgeable and helpful. I would defenitely recommend Kahoots, even for fish! We are getting a new puppy today and called and went into this location yesterday. Zach answered the phone and then answered all of my stupid questions with a can do attitude. Then my wife and I came in to get a new name tag, dog bowls, dog bed and food also. Zach (and the rest of the team) was extremely helpful and gave us great advice on everything we needed. He had a smile on his face and genuinely seemed to love his job. I run a small company with 10 employees. Zach is the kind of person that I would love to have working with our team. I'll keep this short and sweet for once. It's nice that a full service pet store is now a little closer to me however I'm not sure that I'm fully committed to them yet. As with many retail pet stores, the interior is bright, clean and provides many options to the average pet owner and to the type of pet you own. The staff here is friendly, outgoing and seem knowledgeable. The only reason I cannot give more stars is because the addition of this place will possibly mean the decline of a mom and pop pet store in the same area and I always have a soft spot for the underdog. read more

So my cat has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma. It's heartbreaking and I'm frazzled and overwhelmed with it. I walked into this Kahoots hoping to find some food he would be willing to eat and maybe some CBD oil or something that would help make him more comfortable. The employee, Don, was extremely helpful. He didn't have all the answers, but he was very compassionate and empathetic and patiently took the time to walk around the store with me to compare labels and explain things to me that I otherwise was unaware of. The store location itself is pretty small and seems to have more dog stuff than other animals, but the quality of service well makes up for it. Needed some supplies for our first puppy! Immediately when I walked in, Erika greeted me and was incredibly helpful with directing me towards what I needed.
