I stopped at Petco today after a visit to the Vet. Unfortunately, my dog does not like getting her nails clipped. Because of this, the vet recommended a sedative. I had an appointment to pick up the prescription and made an appointment for another date for the nail trim. I was a little leery to go the prescription route - let me say I trust the vet very much and also understand that for some dogs this is the only route - however, just for me personally, I wasn't 100% sure. I happened to stop at Petco to pick up some treats on the way home and also to look at nail clippers, thinking I could do it on my own (not sure why, but don't we all have those moments?). While at Petco, I was quickly approached by an employee, Noah, asking if I needed help. He led me to the clippers and made his recommendation. He also recommended the Petco groomers, listening to me explain my dog's temperament. He still recommended their services, providing additional information. So I followed him to the groomers section. He was very nice, helpful, and had such a great attitude. He took the time to meet my dog (I should note she is a rescue and doesn't always warm up to people). I'm so happy I listened to Noah because they were able to clip her nails. They were very patient with her and worked with her. I was so impressed with the entire experience. They made notes in their system so they would have information about her for next time. And you can bet I will be returning after this experience. I have my Westie groomed here by Roxane and I almost always get great compliments from other dog owners. The two things I will say about this store and possibly all of The petco's is that you are not allowed to add on your tip to the final total at the cashier. Which means the poor groomers who work so hard doing what I don't want to do, usually get screwed out of tip, So, heads up, bring extra cash and tip generously! read more

My lil puppy went in for a nail clipping (clipped the nail too deep.).. and she made my dog scream, and I have never heard my dog do that ever!! it broke my heart. I brought my little puppy by appointment today at 10:30. Was told he'd be ready in 1.5 maybe 2 hours. 5 hours later I just went to pick him up and he was still getting cut. Then I get attitude from the groomer. She doesn't finish the puppy and just plops him on the counter. Unfinished puppy, hair every where. If it takes 5 hours to doo (get it?) your dog then they should tell you that, especially when you make an appointment. Don't let you dog sit in a crate while they pick up walk-ins. read more

I went into the store today to pick up a treat pouch for my dogs. At first, the girl that helped me find what I needed was very helpful. When I went to go buy the product I noticed the clip for the pouch was not on the proper spot and the loop where it needed to be hooked was tattered/shredded. When I asked the cashier if he could check if they had any more in stock he looked annoyed and gave me a blank stare. He then responded with "probably not, as you can see there's a lot of boxes not open yet." Then proceeded to tell me to just cut all the tattered pieces off or go somewhere else, he didn't even offer nor attempt to help me....GREAT customer service. read more

My Scottie looks beautiful. I called this morning and they took her immediately. She was in and out in less than two hours. The total bill was 63.00! She looks beautiful; Kaitlyn did a fantastic job. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. The shop was immaculate and the two people working there very kind and polite. I had taken my Scottie to another local groomer years go that kept ramping up her prices and never had time unless I booked a month in advance.She didn't need our business. I have used Petco for several years to buy crikets for our toad and mice to feed our snake, but lately have used Danville Pets closer to home because I like the owner and her lower prices. The other day Lisa was out of mice and Slither was salivating. I went to Petco and asked for one feeder mouse. The clerk, a very nice young lady, handed me this two part form tto fill out with my name, Address, etc. I asker her what this was for??? She said that everybody buying mice had to fill out this form. I asked why? She said so they could be certain that the mice were being treated humainly...I choked. I said "I am am feeding this to my snake". She hemmed and hawed and started singing the company song about how much they care and all that as I stared in disbelief! Obviously, somebody in the chain of command doesn't have enough to do or needs to get a dose of reality training. This is mindless. It is so stupid that I think I will boycott them just on principle. Its too bad because otherwise I think they run a fairly decent store. Good thing I don't have other pets that need anything they sell....I am waiting till Tuesday when Lisa gets more mice (for half the price of Petco!) and I already told Slither to stop salivating until then. read more

This the second time I've come to the groomers and they've been closed during normal business hours. The sign outside clearly stating the hours of business from 8am - 8pm Monday through Saturday. It's not even 5:30pm and no one is in sight. At least a note on the door would be appreciated so I don't have to search for an employee who is also surprised that they are closed. Just left my favorite Petco. Love the store, love the product and love making a donation each time. So they get a FIVE but a ONE in service. The cashier was about as can be. I noticed the credit card reader when I went to pay did not ask me if I wanted to make a donation so I asked Amy and she simply said it does that sometimes without offering me a chance to donate anyway. Shame. Also the person in front of me was slow as can be and Amy didn't even make a move to say sorry for the wait. Bleh bleh bleh. Seriously. I've gone in here a few times since purchasing our baby sphynx cat Qwerty. The first time was before I picked him up from the breeder so I decided I would sign up for their petco rewards card. Free food or litter or something. I don't remember. The very bored 15 year old behind the counter didn't really care enough to explain it to me. I came back a few weeks later to purchase some litter, food, etc. and tried to use my card but I couldn't because it wasn't activated yet. I asked how long that takes and they said usually 3-4 months. What!? That is a little ridiculous. Then the girl behind the counter forgot to ring up a few things that were on the counter and she said "oh, sorry. Do you still want them?"....No, Not anymore. Don't stress yourself. It's just your job and whatnot. Ugh. I know it's more expensive and it's more out of my way, but from now on I'm going to Wags and Whiskers in Walnut Creek. The ladies that work there CARE about your pets and are interested in helping you. What a novel idea. read more

Another Petco Store. Parking out in back, it's closer and you don't have to walk as far than if you parked in the front where all the other stores are. Nothing special about this place. Go to WalMart first to see if they carry what you need. The selection of pet food is not as much at WalMart, but it is cheaper there, depending on what you're looking for. The fish at Petco seem sick, I would not buy any here and buy my fish at Petsmart instead. When I go to this store, it seems vacant, like we are the only ones in the store. read more

This review is for the grooming department. I have a 7 month old long haired fluff ball of cuteness who started loosing his puppy coat last week. I decided to get him trimmed so that there would not be any matting and to get him a shorter cut for the summer adventures that we are going to go on. I while on a walk with my dog, I was told by a women with a wheaten terrier that Mandy at the Petco in San Ramon was the best and their rates were reasonable. Mandy did an excellent job. He came out looking very happy and cute and his hair was the exact length that we had talked about. The cut cost 56 dollars total and took about 2 hours. read more

Staff is super friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. They mostly carry everything we need for 3 dogs, a cat, snake, and fish. The snake gets a little tricky since people in this area don't typically purchase them as pets. Anyway, I am impressed by the plethora of knowledge from the staff. Most of the time you walk into these stores and the kids just "work here." The staff at this location also remember us now and ask about our snake, Severus, each time we come in to make sure he's doing well. They even called a week after we bought him to check in. They show genuine concern for the animals which makes shopping at this location a pleasure. Kudos to the hiring manager and a big thank you to the staff. read more

Save yourself some time and money and go somewhere else! I usually go to this Petco for all my furry babes items and now I am going to go somewhere else. NJ who is an employee there has the worst attitude! I had to exchange something and I had asked prior to me buying it if it didn't work out and I didn't use it and had the receipt could I return it and the nice gentlemen said sure that is fine. NJ was there at the cash register and I exchanged my items and actually spent another $21 dollars in that store. The whole time she had attitude and acted like I had done something wrong. She also didn't want to give me back my old receipt and when she gave me my stuff literally picked up the bag with her pinky as if she was so disgusted at this whole exchange and never said hello or goodbye. She is a customer service employee and I had the worst experience there and spoke to the manager about and just cannot believe this so I am taking my money elsewhere. If Petco is ok with people like this working for them and representing them they don't need my money and I will let everyone I know to not go here at all. I shouldn't have to feel like this as a customer. NJ should find a new place to work where she doesn't need to talk to the public because her attitude sucks. read more

I took my mixed breed up to get a shampoo and blow dry and what I though (and paid) for a good brushing out. When I picked her up the hair was still flying out and looked horrible. I was told that they brushed her for 1/2 hour but there is no way. This will be the last time I go. read more

For a Petco, in my opinion, it's one of the better ones I've been too. The main reason for going to this Petco is for aquarium related items. In general, this store does seem to have adequate stock, and the staff are pretty helpful. At time though, like every other Petco I've been to, they always seem to be a bit understaffed. Noah, (the guy with the beard) has been especially nice towards me as he has always been helpful with recommendations pertaining to products and live fish. read more
