Went to buy two gold fishes for my daughter. Should have been in and out kind of deal. The young clerk was talking to a lady. Hints the guy I need help next. They kept chatting. We waited 10 minutes. I went there verbally asked if I can get some help. I mean if you are too busy get another clerk to help me. But no. He told me just a min. Waited another 8 minutes. Finally the important customer left without purchasing anything. I called my daughter back to the fish tank that we had our eyes on for the past 20 minutes. She was over the dog grooming area about 7 steps away. We came back and he was gone. Circle around fish tanks area two times. Can't find him. Waited another 5 minutes. Gave up and went home empty handed. Great service not received. Great business will just end up like that dead gold fish on the tank soon I am sure. read more

I dropped my dog off in the morning for her 8:30 am grooming appointment and they told me they will call me 15 min before it is done and should take about 3.5 hours. But after that, I never received any call from them. I called at least 3 times and texted back to the number they used to confirm my appointment but nobody replied to me. After 6 hours with no callback, I went to the store to ask what is going on. Then they told me they did call me. But when I show them my call history I didn't get any call from them. They just said they called and handed the paper and asked me to pay! No apologies or check what is going on. I checked the paper they gave to me, they do have my correct phone number. Anyway, very bad experience. I will not come here again. read more

So I took my water sample here cause my water was green and cloudy. The guy checked it and said it was fine to try these two products to clear it up. Killed everything in the tank. I brought in the products and dead snails and the guy acts like it's totally my fault for not knowing these chemicals could kill everything. Directions on bottles were shit the guy who sold them to me said to make sure I was doing my water changes etc talks to me for 10 minutes doesn't mention anything about how careful to be or proper dosing. Directions on bottles are not clear I used about 3-4 drops of each. I am most angry how the guy acted when I brought it back like I was a moron and not sorry that maybe they could of given better directions or that it wasn't clear. No condolences let alone refunds. I mean it was a gold fish and couple of snails but my kids really liked them. People were just heartless will take my business elsewhere. read more

You better know your customer and you better know how to make them happy, because you have no one else to turn to. The customer in question, loves dogs. Not only does she love dogs but she loves Dachshunds. Thank the lord of wiener dogs that I know this and I love them probably more than her. I scrounged through my own personal card file for the perfect wiener dog card and then drove like a bat out of hell to Petco to get a nice gift card. When walking in I thought I was at a yard sale of dog and cat goods. Things were everywhere. Inside and outside there were boxes piled everywhere. I went to the counter and walked around and around looking for gift cards and finally just stood at the counter......waiting....waiting. Oh, there comes someone. The gift cards are behind the counter! You have to ask for them. Oh, my bad. So I got my apologetic gift card. I hand wrote my note apologizing for the behavior and and rushed it to my customers office. Begging for forgiveness and hoping that the behavior would not reflect on me. My client was not in her office so I slid it under the door. Less than an hour later I get a call on my cell phone thanking me and she loooooved the card. I was sincere as I could be. Petco, you saved me, my relationship and thank you for segregating me from awfulness. Its more than I could ask for. Just clean up a little, that's all I ask. read more

Offhandedly he also said bigger dog food stuff comes in friday. Totalling 2 shipments a week. Came here last night as it was on my way home from Costco and needed to pick up a doggie rain coat for my little Deuce. Shes almost one year old and probably wont get any bigger so my wife and I decided to pick one up for her so that she wont get all wet when we take her out for her morning potty. Selection here was meager and just the over all lay out of the store is weird. Customer service was practically nil as no one greeted us or asked if we need assistance. After about 10 minutes of searching, we finally found the dog apparel. They have plenty of dogie life jackets and a very small selection of dog attire. I would much rather shop at PetSmart in Dublin as they actually have employees roaming the store to assist you. read more

We have been taking our two Aussies to Petco grooming for a few years. They are consistently the best!!! Everyone cares for the dogs, and does a wonderful job! We feel very comfortable leaving our dogs there for a few hours to be groomed and pampered unfortunately we will be moving, but plan to come down for grooming visits! I have to give their grooming department a thumbs up. We are currently foster parents to a Jack Russell Terrier mix with medical problems. I met with the grooming manager a few weeks ago and told her about it and she told me to bring him in while they were grooming my dog. She says she wouldn't have a problem working with him, so I brought him in over the weekend and she was great with him. She even pointed out a potential medical problem, and to bring him into the vet. I appreciate the pro-active and concern for our foster dog. read more

Had a stressful day- two dogs at the vet among other things. I stopped by Petco to quickly pick up some pill pockets before heading back to the vet. Was a bit perturbed to park, get out & walk to the door of Petco to find a sign on the door instructing patrons to use the door on the other side. A man came around the side lugging a huge bag of dog food & said, "yea, I found out the hard way too that they don't have this door open". So I walked around the building to the other side, found my pill pockets & upon checking out suggested to the very nice employee that they should consider making a bigger sign that people can read BEFORE they park & get out of their car. I know she was trying to be helpful & explained it was because of Covid...which I understand....& as soon as Covid is gone they will reopen the door. Again I understand. MAybe I just wasn't very articulate in how I suggested, so I thought I would try it here. It would be a very considerate thing to your patrons to place a much larger sign that they could see BEFORE they park & get out of their car. It would be a very simple act of kindness & contribute to one less stressful situation for some, at a time when things are a bit crazy. read more

Went here last night with my roommate. It is hidden on the corner of a plaza. Maybe it's been a while since I've gone into a Petco but WOW, they offer a ton of Gluten-Free biscuits for dogs. It's interesting. We asked the cashier how much the Petco brand of Pee pads cost because it wasn't labeled & was out of reach (it was high & we are both vertically challenged) so he called a different person who came & seemed disgruntled, he was holding a dustpan when he was reaching for the pee pads when the dustpan fell out of his hand & he just let it drop with all the dust that he just cleaned up. I was just down at this location and I had a horrible experience with the Beta Fish. There were several very dirty plastic cups that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a few days. Several Baby Betta had food left over decaying at the bottom of their cups. They are for a fact to small to even eat the pellet food they were provided. They need to be crushed or given live food such as, "Tuba Flex Worms, or Brine Shrimp". I than found the sickest Betta I have ever seen... This fish has Fungus growth all over his body. I took him to the front immediately asking if I could have him for Free as a Rescue as he was sick and I could treat at home. This is what happened... Me: May I have this guy for free rescue do to he has a really bad fungus and he going to die if he doesn't get treatment soon. Register: Well we can't give him to you for free. Me: He is sick and I am not about to purchase a sick fish, but I can take him and treat him. Register: Well let me give you 75% off. Me: No, I would prefer him for free as it is kinda sickening that you are selling sick fish. Register Well let me call one of our managers. *Guy comes up that was stalking food* Me: She wants this fish for free as she thinks it has mold/fungus. Guy: Well I don't know. ask a manager. *Manager over the radio chimes in* Register: Sorry we don't sell sick fish. Me: You realize this doesn't happen overnight? *they stare at me silent before talking again* Register: Well we treat our sick animals in the back and our provider has been sending us some sick fish. Me: Then why is he not in the back being treated and still up for purchase?! And why are you risking putting sick animals up for sale if you know they are coming from a non reliable place?!... *they both just stare at me* Me: Oh by the way your Baby Betta are going to starve as they need crushed pellets or live food as what they are being given now is to big! Husband and I leave. You know your provider/importer has been sending you sick fish yet you risk putting them up to be sold any way. Fungus is contagious and spreads really quick from fish to fish. Fungus also doesn't appear overnight... Now I do not have any bad feeling for the Register Lady at all or even the guy that came up as I do not know if that guy was a manager or not, but I don't think they were. They were just doing their job, but to deny proper medical to an animal that is clearly dying and sick than tell me your animals that are sick are treated in the back. Explain to me why this fish was so so so sick and still up as if it were for purchase? read more

I brought my little girl to buy fish, and it was such a horrible experience. The staff who 'helps' us was very rude. She expected my little girl to know the inches of her fishes and the size of her fish tank. After all these questions, she said 'I don't want to sell you the fish to die' and just stared at us. My little one felt so sad after this experience. She thought she could not get the fishes because she did not know how to answer this person's questions, and she thought it was all her fault. It's ok as far as Petco's go. The people aren't particularly helpful and if you need something you usually have to track down someone. I once purchased a Betta Fish tank here only to get it home and find that it had a crack in it. Whatever, not a big deal, and thankfully we hadn't put the fish in it yet, but kind of a bummer especially since they didn't have any more and I had to go out to the Walnut Creek store to get it and there was no, I'm sorry...it was more like. Whadda you want me to do? I get our dog food and some treats here, cruise around with the kids to kill time. They do love the little shopping carts. It serves its purpose. read more

I'll preface this review by stating that I own a guinea pig. So my opinion is somewhat biased. The selection for anything guinea pig was, well.. crap. I'm used to a very limited supply of items for my piggies. I know this. But it just seemed that this particular location didn't have a variety of anything. Aside from that, the service was something to be desired. The staff was "meh", from the unfriendly and non-helping cashier to the staff walking around coming back from lunch break or wherever and talkin' up a storm like they were in their own house and not in a business. Ugh. The prices are comparable, especially when there are sales. But for the particular location, it's only convenient b/c it's near work. I would've given them only two stars, but we got our first piggie here so they get a whole star just for that fact alone. read more

Went in today to check out some fish and there's dead fish hanging out of filters, almost 2 dead fish floating in every tank and in some guppy tanks dead ones are being eaten by their friends. Consistently, monthly this is hands down the best grooming service. Great, friendly staff and my dog loves going. He always gets special treats after and loves all the groomers. I've tried several others and this is the best. Only 1 star down for 2 reasons: 1. At busy times it's super hard to reach anyone by phone. 2. Check out is cumbersome in that you have to wait in line for your check out slip inside the groomers, then go in Petco to wait in line to pay and then go back in line to pick up your dog. read more

I've been going to this Petco for the past few years because it is the ONLY pet store in San Ramon. The only good thing about this store is it's location. First of all, the yelp photos were NOT taken at this store. This Petco is one of the smallest I've seen. The aisles are very small and crowded. Cleanliness of the store is generally ok, but there was a time I literally had to step over items on the floor. Every time I come here, I have about a 50-50 shot of leaving with what I went here for. I'm lucky if they have the item I'm looking for in stock, especially when it comes to feeder fish. The customer service is hit and miss... I'm pretty disappointed with this store. I'll still come here from time to time so I don't have to drive to Dublin or Danville to get pet supplies, but I'll certainly be avoiding it. read more

I love this Petco! My family loves to come here and check out all the fun critters they have. It's like a free zoo, which is great when you have kids! All the employees are super helpful and attentive when we come in. We bought our little hamster from here and the girl who helped us was very thorough and patient with all the questions we had. I've noticed a change in employees since the past and it's done this location wonders! Very pleased and we will continue to be regulars here. read more

I know I know, Petco where all the Pets go....But when you have three labs and a mini poodle, you need economy. And when the labs eat the poodle puppy's toys its especially cost effective. Plus the power chewing labs go through the large size nyla's about every 3 weeks, so with that we keep Petco in business. For the most part I find what I need when I go in and the clerks at check out are kids and are what I expect, sometimes chatty if they even acknowledge you at all. But I don't really go there for chit chat, and if I've asked to find some item they've usually directed me in the right direction. So this place works for our doggie family. read more

Our gecko had to be taken to the vet in Dublin and she came back with medicine, although there was nothing that could be done to save her. The staff was very understanding and remembered us each time we came to the store to ask questions. thank you, don, for your help at the cash register. Since we got the gecko from Petco, they offered to replace her for free but we wanted to keep her no matter how long she lived. We stopped in today to get a Betta fish to go along with the hamster and mouse and birds we have gotten at Petco. We love the doggie bin full of cookies and rawhides. I mainly come to this Petco location for aquarium supplies. My go-to store is Aquarium Concepts in Dublin, but when I'm tight on time or just need a standard item for my tank, I come here. They don't have a big selection of aquarium supplies, so more often than not, I don't find what I'm looking for. I've learned to only come here for very basic things, and then find what I need or a very similar item. The dog and cat sections seem to have a better selection - I'll have to review those next whenever I get a dog of my own! :) The staff are friendly and are able to answer my questions when I have any. read more

I've had my beta fish since last March (got it from PetSmart) and the tank was cleaned probably once every few weeks since our filters work good and the water is clean. We noticed our fish was at the bottom of the tank upside down and his fins were looking an odd color. We googled what it could be and what we needed to do... I called this Petco location and spoke with a man. I explained and he told me what I needed to buy for the water to hopefully help my fish. I drove there and purchased the stuff and hope that my fish survives. The employee that helped me (sorry can't remember his name) was friendly and super helpful. The ONLY reason they aren't getting 5 stars is because while I was waiting to be helped (no biggy, the employee was helping out her customers get fish) an employee was putting fish into a bag for another customer to take home and as he was DUMPING (from a dish to a bag) one fish didn't make into the bag and fell down the drain. Sorry, but maybe they need to "dump" the fish not over a sink!!! That poor fish just fell down that drain and the employee looked like he could give two sh*ts. It was actually sad. read more

Was a little put off today as I had brought my two dogs to be groomed. This wasn't my first visit and I have never had issues with the staff previously. One of the females in the grooming department asked if my dogs were aggressive towards other dogs. Again this wasn't my first visit and they had never asked me that before. Also they only asked me and not the 3 other customers whom were there, just me. I was offended and it's probably due to her ignorance of my dogs breed, American Staffordshire Terrier and American Bully. My Pit by the way is a registered Service Animal and the other is in process of training so for her to assume they were aggressive is pure ignorance. Plus I would not have brought them into a dog groomer if they were aggressive, that would be reckless and irresponsible on my part. read more

This is looong overdue but want to give a huge shout out to La Donna, a groomer at the San Ramon Petco. She has taken wonderful care of my dogs for the past few years. The wee beasties always look so much better after she's worked her magic on them. She took special care of my aging dog with multiple health problems before he passed and is now showing the same patience and skill with my two pups. I rest easy knowing I'm leaving them in caring hands AND she is an absolutely lovely person to deal with. read more

I enjoy coming here to shop occasionally, but the layout of the store is interesting. They put all the animals in the back, so you have to walk around to find them. However, I purchased two parakeets and a hamster from here at a great price and they are really entertaining and easy to take care of. The service here is not very helpful. When we bought my hamster, the clerk seemed helpful enough when helping us find supplies. But when we bought my parakeets, it was simply just the person grabbing the two parakeets and giving them to us. Luckily, I had a friend who had parakeet experience to help me with cages and supplies. read more
