Santa Rosa PETCO on Santa Rosa Ave. is awful!!! Untrained staff. Poor customer service. A groomer mishandle my dog in front of me. (Caitlin) the manager was accusatory and rude and would not listen to what I witnessed. My pups had went to PETCO since they were pups for training, grooming and shopping for well over 10 years and one untrained groomer that was left alone on a busy day mishandled my dog . They changed a policy for allowing dog and owner to enter the small area before going to the groomer stations. The new groomer In training should have never been left alone with no supervision especially on a busy morning . She placed a choke lead on my dog when I requested for a non choke lead due to a sensitive trachea . My pup didn't take her pulling and choking him by the neck so he laid on the ground the groomer pinned my dog to the ground against the door while she yelled for help from her colleagues no one came to assist for a few minutes. It's was awful. I ask if I could enter the gate and help and the new groomer would not allow me to assist. I am totally disgusted in the way PETCO employees handled this. I am also less impressed with the Manager Caitlin and the manner in which she spoke to me and her lack of professionalism. I do not recommended PETCO grooming. Corporate needs to watch the video of how the groomer handled my dog. Corporate should also assign Caitlin to customer service classes .They have lost a good customer because an employee lied and a manager decided to not listen to the customer. I spend a few hundred dollars each month at PETCO .Definitely not anymore I will be going to Petsmart for pet products. PETCO has a 2 star rating at Santa Rosa Ave PETCO which is very low and well deserved. It's the customers who the Corporation should listen to. read more

I have never said this about anyone, but she needs to be fired from this establishment. UPDATE: Since I made a big stink and submitted photos of neglect, I went back in today, 24hrs later to check on the baby dragons and animals and the problem was resolved (for now, for today). We are in the 21st Century and I was really hoping to see Petco do better. Today, I walked into the store for my first time in a few years only to see starving bearded dragons, reptiles with dirty fecal contaminated water, some animals with no water, bearded dragons on sand that causes impaction that will lead to death and dead betta fish. YOU GUYS....NEED....TO....GET...IT....TOGETHER. APPALLING !!!!!!! Part of me wanted to save a betta from the conditions but couldn't do it because I know it will only continue to support the mass factory breeding operations in horrific conditions and corporate greed. Regarding the bearded dragons, as a dragon owner myself, these guys need fresh veggies at all times. It was only 11am when I arrived and they had nothing. The dragons were on sand which causes impaction. Their habitat covered in fecal. I returned to the store a couple of hours later to see if they were fed. No, no they weren't. I then came back a couple of hours after that and they still were starving with empty dishes and fecal water into the late afternoon. Regarding the bettas, many were dead and please don't tell me they were sleeping. They were unresponsive. I told the associate one was missing an eye (see attached pic) and she said, "ohhhh....sometimes they get eye infections." Okay, this one's eye rotted out of its head. And you're openly admitting eye infections. Again, thats pure neglect. You guys really need to do better. Try harder. Be responsible for the animals in your care. You are doing the bare minimum and it shows. The public notices. We are in the year 2025 ! read more

I have taken my dogs to Petco for grooming for the past three years and, until recently, have always had positive experiences. I have three giant-breed dogs who are calm, sweet, and well-behaved, and grooming has always gone smoothly. When we get our little report cards, they always say nervous but sweet which is what I would expect for a lot of dogs who go to the groomer regularly. My most recent visit, however, was extremely disappointing. I arrived five minutes early for my appointment, as I always do, and was told to "walk around the store" because it wasn't yet time, despite being the first customer there. I returned at my scheduled time and was informed by Caitlin that Petco no longer offers regular baths for long-haired, large-breed dogs and that I would need to pay an upcharge for a de-shed service. This was surprising, given that my dog is on a long-standing monthly grooming program, but I agreed. After receiving a call that my dog was ready, I arrived within 15 minutes. There was no one at the grooming desk, so I paid at the front of the store and tipped, the groomer as they always do a good job. Only after paying was I informed by the grooming-desk employee, Caitlin, that my dog would no longer be allowed to be groomed at Petco because he "sat down too much" and had "aged out of the system". I was told this is Petco policy. My dog is a four year old 120-pound Bernese Mountain Dog. Standing for hours is physically exhausting for a dog of his size, and he was calm and non-aggressive--simply sitting when tired. I was shocked by both the policy and the way this information was delivered. The interaction was dismissive and unprofessional. Since my dog has been banned, I will no longer be bringing any of my dogs to Petco so I guess there is no way to resolve this. The only reason for the one-star rating is Grace, who has consistently been an exceptional, kind, and caring groomer. read more

I bought a beta fish from Petco and I bought it at 3 PM when I woke up at 9 AM. It was dead. Less than 24 hours I flushed the Betta fish down the toilet and when I told them what happened they said they could not give me a refund even without the dead fish's body? I stopped by to browse the saltwater fish and check out the store, but had a really uncomfortable experience. A staff member spoke to me in a rude and condescending way. Instead of asking about my experience or what I was looking for, she immediately asked my age. This whole interaction was implying I couldn't even look at the fish unless I was over 18. I am over 18, but it felt unnecessary and uninviting especially since I wasn't trying to purchase anything, just browse. I have a fully regulated saltwater tank at home and was hoping to find a good addition, but not to specifically purchase today. Had she asked about my experience, she would've learned that I have years of hands-on work with marine invertebrates and saltwater fish. Instead, I was treated like I didn't belong or wasn't capable of being a responsible fish owner. This is the second time I've felt unwelcome at this location, and it's really disappointing especially as a paying Petco member who shops here regularly. I couldn't help but notice that other customers who don't look like me were treated with more respect and warmth. It left me wondering if that's part of why I was singled out. read more

But there is also this adorable blue hair girl who is so sweet and she deserves a raise. I came into Petco simply to browse the saltwater fish selection. What I didn't expect was to be met with one of the most unprofessional and condescending interactions I've ever had in a retail setting. The woman working that section, whose demeanor was aggressive from the start, immediately acted as though I had no business being there. I'm nearly 30 years old and was genuinely taken aback when she started questioning whether I was even 18. She was seriously interrogating me about what I'm "allowed" to have and insinuating that I didn't know anything, despite me never asking for advice or attempting to purchase anything at that moment. Her tone was patronizing, her attitude combative, and the entire interaction felt like I was being scolded for merely walking over to the tanks. I've never felt so unwelcome as a customer, especially when I was simply trying to explore potential options for a new tank setup. Additionally on my way out of the store I noticed a dead a beta fish. While attempting to check on it, the same woman immediately screamed at me from across the store to leave the beta fish alone. Wish I remembered her but she was a younger and shorter, heavier set woman with long hair. Needless to say, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

What a bunch of idiots that work here. I brought my little 8 pound dog in to get her nails done and they said no problem. Then they had me wait 20 minutes and then told me she needed to have her rabies on file. If they had told me that before we wouldn't have wasted anyone's time. They also freaked out when I was carrying my dog in the store because she wasn't on a leash. I was carrying her and she's 8 pounds. Not causing any problems... not killing anybody. Calm down losers. We love their puppy classes and highly recommend them! Amee, the trainer, is wonderful. She knows her job very well and can find her way into any dog's heart. Now our puppy Milo knows how to sit, lay, stay, leave it, drop it, stand, wait, and lots of other commands. We learned a lot of helpful commands, not just tricks. We are so thankful for every class we came in for. Also, they are the only store that always had Royal Canin French bulldog puppy and adult food. read more

I had two little dogs (one at a time) and I needed to get their flea and tick medicine. I had an appointment and it went smoothly.

I have taken my grandmothers dog here about 10 times for a bath, in the beginning it was fine and convenient past 4 visits have not been good and I will not be returning and suggest you take your business elsewhere! When I dropped her off they said 2 hours, the groomer was also late for the appointment and then 35-40 minutes later I get a call saying she's ready for pick up. When I get there the young female employee was very rude, judgmental, hostile towards us, our dog was not fully clean/dry either. As someone who's worked in customer service it's really not that hard to just be nice, this past visit will be the last time I'll be going there. read more

Customer service is horrible, they act like they don't want to be there and don't greet customers especially rude at checkout our lady was the one with two piercings in her lip and short hair. This is the 3rd betta fish that died on me within 2 months from this location. This time my betta died within the 2 week guarantee period so I brought back the receipt, the body and water sample. I was denied the exchange because this employee said the water was not ideal. This is a lie as many other fish have been thriving in this water for years in my well established tank. I am no rookie when it comes to fish care. All the while they have the nerve to tell me this when I spotted 3 dead betta fish they still had up for sale in the store that day. They can basically deny returns anytime they want and they do. Low standards, low ethics and a poor establishment. Shop at your own risk. It's funny how they show "concern" when you try and buy a fish and give you a hundred questions, but yet sell dead fish. read more

I really hope the manager of the store reads these reviews. The store was very busy, there was one cashier and a line going around the corner. I showed up to the Fish department to grab some fish for a brand new fish tank at home. There were other people who knew exactly what I wanted so I let them go first. I wound up waiting about 20 minutes to be helped in the fish department. Once we were done I was helped by a younger gal with colorful hair and a nice enough attitude. I told her that I was looking for some goldfish for my daughter and then I had also been recommended to get an algae sucker to keep the tank clean. I was told that the algae eater I was pointing out was going to get too large for my tank. That is understandable and so I let her direct me to a different shark about a half an inch long, a Cory catfish, and a snail. I told her that I didn't have a water heater, and also that I was looking for something to eat algae. A young man in line behind me told me that the fish she was picking out we're not algae eaters, I thought he must be wrong even though he was using very scientific terms and he sounded very intelligent. I let the girl who worked there decide. I later found out that the Cory catfish needs a heater, so I purchased one of those. I also found out that Cory catfish does not in fact eat algae !!!!!! and I was starving him to death trying to feed him the algae pellets that I was sold. The shark immediately passed away, and Cory catfish was laying belly up on its side for another unrelated reason. I wound up going to Caesars tropical fish and I was able to salvage the life of this poor catfish, however, please don't buy fish from Petco people. Go to a place that specializes. The random people at Petco don't know what they are doing unfortunately and steered me in the wrong direction, one animal lost its life, and another nearly died because the employee didn't know what they were recommending. I should've listened to the gentleman behind me in line, maybe that shark would still be alive today. read more

My dog was groomed here many times. She is a mini schnauzer. I have never been disappointed in any of our visits.

We've taken our shepsky there to be groomed 5 or 6 times. This last time, Jan groomed her. She did an amazing job! She did a great job removing his undercoat and deshedding. On top of that, she was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our dog loves her too! read more

Stopped by the other morning. Left empty handed, and feeling like I needed to shower. The store was dirty, nothing at all was stocked! There were carts, u-boats, and cages galore around the store carrying products to go into the shelves. The dog food I needed was on a u-boat at the very bottom. No one to be seen. There's a spot in the center that looks like a dump space for random products no one wants to put away properly. I worked for a large pet store myself, so I understand the struggle they are facing, but that state of that store was just unexcusable. I have no doubt that if their DM saw it, they would freak out!! I had my almost 6 month old maltipoo, Lily, washed and groomed at Petco for the 2nd. Time today. Angie was her groomer. She did such a great job. Lily looks adorable. I would recommend this Petco grooming salon to anyone who has a puppy, young or old. They spend such quality time with the dog, in order to make him/her feel more comfortable.
