This is actually the second time I've had the pleasure of interacting with her, and I hope the company realizes what an asset she is to their team. I typically order our dog food online, but now I genuinely look forward to the occasional drop-in just to visit with Eddy. She's such a kind, thoughtful person--always takes a moment to chat and makes you feel welcome. She offers treats for my dogs, which they enjoy very much. PetCo recently instituted a policy charging 0.10 for a bag to carry out your purchases. It's only a fine but I refuse to be strong-armed. I contacted Corporate (877-738-6742). Their response was they are trying to encourage customers to bring in their own reusable bags to be more eco-friendly. It's not their business to modify my shopping habits. They sell pet supplies, that's it. They essentially lost a customer who spends thousands of dollars a year in their stores over a 0.10 bag. I will now shop only at PetSmart or Chewy. I have been a loyal customer of Petco for a few years but the recent experiences I've had at the store have just not been good. I came there to pick up an order that said it was going to be ready by the end of the day and I came around 8:40 at night which is 20 minutes before they close, I asked a group of employees who were just standing around, not doing anything, if my order was ready and they said it had not been filled yet even though they were clearly not doing anything in the store closes in 20 minutes, they seemed to bother that I was even coming up to them and I basically had to help pack my pick up order myself. This location was DISGUSTING. I am so sick of walking into pet stores and seeing mistreated birds. But to charge 250 for cockatiels despite jamming THREE of them into one SMALL cage with no toys is absolutely abhorrent and frankly there is NO excuse. Pictured is the cage. If you notice there's no food or water, which is because I pointed out that the water was neon green from bird poop and the manager made some weak comment about "today's deep cleaning day " and walked off with both bowls. This was taken a solid five minutes later while she was off doing something else. I get it, birds poop. But there aren't nearly enough perches in this inadequately sized cage, at least two of these birds has a tail that's been destroyed by too much time hanging out on a grate at the bottom due to nowhere to stand, another is missing toes likely from the nest as a baby, and the third has overgrown talons, again from inadequate perching. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! This cage is disgusting, cramped, with no enrichment, and the staff evidently doesn't care. I found this after walking into the store immediately greeted by finding several dead bettas in their display. I walked out without buying the 40 dollars worth of cat food I'd grabbed and will NEVER be giving my money to this trash heap of a Petco. read more

The grooming salon is not good. Literally just go somewhere else. For a nail trim/buff it's about $21 each now and they barely cut either of my dog's nails. Then they complained about us walking in even though they said they had time. The cashier is very nice though. read more

While there are a million dog training options out there, we settled on Petco St Charles as it was affordable, close to our house, and the trainer was nice. In puppy 1 we had so much fun. The class met once a week for 6 weeks. We loved getting together with the other dogs in the class and while they can't interact in the class itself, we stuck around most days for puppy playtime, which is offered for a half hour (I think? Maybe it's an hour?) every Saturday and Sunday. The training itself was great, led by Courtney. She taught all the puppies in our class so effortlessly and was very supportive and encouraging in helping us make sure we were learning best behaviors, as well. She would go around the class to see what our current concerns were - and believe me when I tell you each of us had different issues to address - and made sure we each left with the knowledge to overcome any problems. We signed up for puppy 2 and had 6 more awesome classes. Courtney does such a great job of listening to our concerns and giving us tips to work on until we see her again. She's a wonderful dog trainer and focuses on positive training and praise. My dog listens to her, respects her, and loves her! Also, with signing up for each class, we received discounts AND Petco rewards so we could get new treats or toys each week. It was an amazing deal, if you ask me! If you're debating where to take your dog for training, I highly recommend Courtney at the St. Charles petco. read more

I had a 9 am appt. today with Cortney (dog trainer at Petco Store in St. Charles, IL) to evaluate one of my dogs for the Canine Good Citizen Evaluation. I am familiar with the CGC Evaluation because 6 of my dogs already successfully passed it: 4 collies and 2 miniature poodles. One of my Collies passed it with another evaluator less than a month ago. Cortney was INCOMPETENT AND RUDE. When we got to the second exercise of the CGC Evaluation which is "Out for a walk on a loose lead including a right and left turn." Cortney INSISTED my dog was REQUIRED to HEEL while executing the exercise. I told her that was INCORRECT and read the description of the exercise to her from her own AKC paperwork which says nothing about the dog being REQUIRED to heel. She still insisted my dog MUST heel and said she was right because she had been doing CGC evaluations (incorrectly!) for 4 years. Again, I told her heeling was NOT REQUIRED for the CGC Eval and that heeling was required for Novice Obedience. At which point, she told me to leave the store in a VERY LOUD and RUDE VOICE (which is a nice way of saying she was BITCHY.) Had Cortney been accurately informed, she would know Heeling is required for more advanced level competition (Novice Obedience) because it requires more than walking on a loose leash, i.e., automatic sits, the dog must stay aligned with the handler--It's right ear aligned with the outer seam of the handler's left pant leg, etc. Given the above, Courtney SHOULD NOT conduct CGC Evaluations. She is RUDE, INCOMPETENT and UNPROFESSIONAL. I blame the store manager (Brady--see below) for her unacceptable behavior since she reports to him. (When I phoned the store and asked for Cortney's last name and the first and last name of the store manager, the store manager "Brady" refused to provide either. I wanted the information so I could write this review and send a letter of complaint to the AKC.) I contacted a Petco AKC CGC Evaluator because it's cheaper than using other AKC CGC Evaluators. Now I know why. You don't pay much because they're incompetent and rude. If you're looking for a dog trainer, stay away from Petco in St. Charles, IL and Cortney specifically. I gave this review 1 star because I had to. If it was up to me, I wouldn't give Cortney and Petco St. Charles any stars. This person/place is a TOTAL WASTE of time and money! P.S.I should ad I'm a better than average informed dog owner because I wrote for DOG NEWS Magazine between 2009 and 2017 and DOG WORLD Magazine between 1991 and 2003. As a dog writer during that time, I researched and wrote about hundreds of dog related topics including the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Evaluation Program. read more

Was trying to get a goldfish for my tank and was REFUSED, rudely, because it was not 50 gallons... the "aquatic specialist" Insinuated that I was inhumane for wanting to buy a goldfish in the first place. He did not even give us an option to purchase, he put the fish back and walked away without saying anything. read more

I took my dog here for the first time. I usually take him to his vet for grooming but they were booked for a few weeks and I had heard some good things about Petco. I can honestly say I'm sorry I ever tried this place. They quoted my poodle mix puppy a three hour grooming time. After four hours, I called inquiring about the timeframe. I was told another half hour would be needed and they would call me when they were done and even rechecked my phone number on file. After another hour and a half, without any phone call, I walked into the store and I was told my dog was "done". I asked why I didn't received a phone call and They considered when I had called earlier as my notification. When asked why they said they would call me they told me sorry for the confusion but their policy is to call 30 minutes before...they never made any mention of this policy before, especially during the phone call I had made earlier. I picked up my dog and the haircut is pretty rough. They obviously didn't comb him because he had some tangles in his hair. He still had some eye boogers that wasn't cleaned off. I asked for the hair around his butt to be cleaned up - it wasn't. His left inner leg is sheared so close it looks like a huge bald spot. This is pretty shoddy work for $75. Luckily I received a discount for being my first time (not enough of one, IMO.) This will be my only time coming here. The groomer was the older of the two ladies behind the counter and she kept making up excuses about everything like a child. My advice: take your dog somewhere - ANYwhere else. There are way too many good groomers in the area that charge less to put up with this kind of subpar work. Let my bad experience be a lesson for everyone else read more

WOOT! I'm a fan! What really impresses me about this Petco are their employees, especially their groomers! They're like dog whisperers! Jellybean, my French Bulldog, hates to get his nails clipped; so much that he would even growl! But his recent trip to the Petco's groomers was as if he was different dog - so calm and happy. The groomers definitely know what they're doing. I also really liked that they were open during a holiday (Labor Day), nail clippings are walk in procedures (no appointment necessary), and it only took 2 minutes! Another reason why I like this Petco is that it frequently has weekend clinics. The clinics offer a variety of services and their packages are really affordable. Also, there can be a lot of people during those weekends, however, the staff and clinic volunteers make the whole process very efficient and easy. Overall, the Petco staff is helpful, and kind. As for the actual store, it's kept clean and you can find most brands of food, toys, and other pet supplies! I recommend this Petco if you're in the St. Charles area! read more

Now, I've got to drive to Petsmart (which I actually prefer) but it's so so much further from my house. I have zero reason to come here anymore. Petco has a wonderful staff both in grooming and throughout the store. We have golden doodles and they can be difficult to groom properly so they don't look like poodles. The groomers at Petco are amazing with them. We just won't take them anywhere else, and that is saying something. The cashiers are friendly, the place is well stocked and convenient. Last week we got a free 40 lb bag of dog food because of our Petco card. Being rewarded for shopping at such a great store? Yah, I'm a fan. read more

I was in this store this weekend to buy cat food. The cat section had good selection but was stocked in a chaotic layout. That's not really my issue though. The cockatiels looked sick, and their cage was small, bare, and filthy. One of them was missing its tail feathers. They obviously need to see a vet. We left without buying the cat food, as we couldn't bring ourselves to support the store. read more

Store staff, wonderful. Grooming staff, unbelievably unprofessional. I was 8 minutes early to my appointment and was told to leave and come back because they had their hands full. When I told the front desk girl it was okay I was willing to wait until my appointment time, the manager *yelled* at me from the back for me to either go walk around the store or leave and we could reschedule. She was upset over some poor German Shepard she was dealing with. They seem under staffed, under trained, over booked and overwhelmed. If that was the treatment I got, I can just imagine how they treat the pets we leave in their care. I called the district manager and have YET to hear back from anyone. read more

I am feeling so frustrated. When you call to ask for a nail cutting appointment they won't make one because they accept walk-ins. And every time I go there I am told they can't see me for at least an hour. when I walk in with a dog and a 2 year old the last thing I want to hear is that I get to turn around now and go home. This is a pretty nice Petco. I bought my last Betta (fish) from here and he lived a long time.

I've been going here for many years for food, other needs and to get my dog's nails clipped. My dog is old and has arthritis and I have trouble getting him and out of the car. The last 3 days I went they said they were too busy to take him, and actually weren't very friendly about it-didn't apologize or try to do service recovery. I am going on weekends since I work full time, 10- 12 hours a day. Today I had a day off and called ahead and was once again told she couldn't possibly do this until maybe 4 p.m., she was alone, Mondays and Tuesdays are bad, etc. I started to say that this is a new experience to have so much trouble getting in and she cut me off and said I didn't say I couldn't get you in, not just this morning-was very rude, negative tone,raised voice. I ended up saying good bye and hung up. Time to find another place to go-lost my business just like that. I understand being short staff (work in a hospital) needing to get new people trained but don't be rude and irritated when a customer calls-not cool! read more

We take our pup here for grooming. We only see one groomer here, her name is Sonoa. My pup REFUSES to let me give her a bath but she waltzes right up to Sonoa to get her bath and nails trimmed (along with her hello hugs and pets) and whines out of excitement. My pup loves her so much and the love is so clearly mutual. I feel good knowing my baby is in GREAT hands. Sonoa is our favorite. read more

This is directed specifically at the grooming department. I have brought my dogs here for baths and nail trimmings. They are so kind and patient with my dogs! I have two dachshunds that have had minimal human handling before I adopted them, and they are understandably nervous having their sensitive paws handled by a stranger, but the staff here are able to trim their nails with no problems. I also have a cocker spaniel that absolutely detests having his paws handled. One groomer at my local vets office has refused to groom him without sedation despite him not being aggressive. I find it interesting how the groomers at Petco state how good he is and have never had an incident with him. I must commend the Petco groomers for the excellent work they have done with my beloved pooches! read more

I wanted to take the time to express how GREAT Emily in the grooming center is. I have been taking my 8 year old pitbull to her for several months and I am more then happy after each visit. Emily is so informative about pet care needs and is always giving me new tips! She is so professional and always greets us with a smile. Petco is lucky to have such a kind hearted individual and Emily deserves to be recognized! We appreciate her and all she does for my big baby when I bring him in! I have been a customer of PETCO in St Charles for well over a decade...spent thousands of dollars there on dog products and grooming...as of today, a big NO THANKS. My dog is a beautiful long haired, double coated shepard in unbelievable shape and turning thirteen in September. She has been hiked daily and swims all summer and no hip displatia and very little arthritis. She swims all summer and every year needs a full grooming every couple of months which is taken care of between her vet and PETCO. EVERY year at the end of July she goes in for a full grooming and shave on her belly , legs and tail as she swims daily and because of her dense coat gets matted. I picked her up today and got a full on LECTURE from this woman that I am somehow abusing my dog and neglecting her and its her job to be my dogs advocate.because of her matted hair..thats why we were there ..simply STUNNING. I cannot tell you how offended I am. I got nowhere in trying to discuss this with a manager as he had left the building and nowhere when I called back. This same groomer was just as offensive last year and I shouldn't have gone back. Last year we were ten minutes early and told to come back...I said fine, I will wait in the car and got a full on LECTURE that she would have to report me if I left my dog alone in my car...I was totally stunned as that was not my intention at all. have filed a formal complaint with PETCO AND NEVER GOING BACK. Bella as all my dogs are like my kids and they are well taken care of and have had extroidinary, athletic lives all weather , every single day in the forest preserves and swimming... all winter ect. that is why my dogs live until they are fourteen and die of natural causes.... read more

I went to the Petco Grooming a few weeks ago to inquire about grooming for my two dogs. I was told to just come on in with the dogs, no appointment necessary. I went there today with my dogs only to be told that I needed to have the rabies certs with me. I understand that this may be policy, but as I am new to the state this was not known to me. I made a journey that was simply a hassle. Please make sure all your employees tell your customers this as it may not be a 'known' to everyone. read more
