Thanks to these jokers, my entire fish population (100's of dollars) was wiped out by a sick fish. I went back to speak to the sales guy who was working the aquarium section - found out they had an issue with ICH in a whole row of tanks. They share the same water supply! So instead of treating the tanks properly, they sold the fish to unsuspecting customers. Will never purchase another item from this chain. read more

Have taken my dog to the groomers here many times over the years and been satisfied. They have one really nice groomer who I guess we have been lucky to get her in the past. Today we were not lucky and got a bad one. It started when I arrived a few minutes before our 3pm appointment. There was a group with a small dog asking about getting their dogs nail clipped. The groomer said to them she could do it for them in a few minutes. She looked up, and saw me and said just a minute. She then proceeded to take their dog to the grooming station. I thought she would be right out to get my dog for her appointment. But I was wrong, so wrong. She proceed to take 2 minutes and several attempts to get the collar on their dog. Then she started clipping the dogs nails. I stood there watching her clip their dogs nails for 11 minutes. Yes I was timing her on my watch. She finished and the. She brought the dog out and walked right past me and disappeared down the aisle. After 3 minutes I asked the cashier if there was anyone else working the grooming. He went looking for her and she came back 5 minutes later and began to check my dog in. That's a total of 21 minutes of me standing their waiting for her! I should have left but no I went ahead and checked my dog in. She told me my dog would be ready in 4 hours. 4 hours seemed long to me, but i thought she was being conservative. Nope. I showed up 4 hours later to pickup my dog and another groomer (the good one) went to check and came back and told me my dog hadn't even been started on her cut and that I should come back in another hour. So, I came back after an hour and my dog was being groomed. I shopped, paid and waited for her to be done. No tip for her and I am never going to come back. read more

Just stopped in to pick up a diamond goby for my reef tank. Though they did not have any in, John assured me he would make not of it for the next shipment. He is very knowledgeable as is Fernando. Both have given us all the help we could ask for and some. Though we live in Leesburg where there are a few fish stores close by, we drive the extra distance to come to sterling. If you love your pet DO NOT GO HERE! My dad took our poodle, coal, here and coal came back looking like he had gotten in a bar fight! He had cuts from the haircut and he fur was completely uneven! They charged us 80$ for the haircut and when I came back the next day they were less then helpful. I spoke to the store manager who asked me to come at a later time to speak to the salon manager. When we came back they offered to fix it and refund 11$. 11$ is not worth the gas money or wasted time coming back there twice when it should of been done right the first place. They also refused to believe that the cuts were actual cuts until I showed them pictures of the cuts bleeding. Eventually they gave us a full refund and asked us never to come back. The groomer did exactly what I asked her NOT to do... They gave a voucher for next time. The groomer said it was her fault , she had an emergency and wasn't all there today. I wish she had said that before I left our little dog with her. I would have gladly rescheduled. read more

I have been to many Petco's prior to this one and I have never had an experience this negative. My first encounter I went in at 4 o'clock on a Thursday and they told me they did not have time to do a nail clipping. I understand that happens , but the man working there even said I know it is a walk in service but today just won't work. So after driving 10 minutes to get here I was a little disappointed. I went back to days later and that same man that told me to come back was just as rude this time. I asked him for change so I could pay a tip and he was clearly unhappy that he had to get a manager. He mumbled under his breath well I can't do it so I'm going to have to call somebody. I said OK that's fine and then the manager was equally as unhappy with me having to get change back. So overall I just felt like I was a burden and it really discourages me from coming back. read more

Rude. Most times I have been in there my expectations have not been high. I don't expect to be greeted or asked if I need help. This most recent time put me over, WAY OVER, the edge. I will not be going back to this location again. I went into the store with my husband and my adorable 6 month old puppy to try to socialize him a little bit. The manager on duty stopped to say hi to my puppy as she had three of the same breed at home. She commented on his beautiful markings and we continued shopping. When we got to the register the manager said to the cashier, Brianna, "Isn't he the cutest puppy ever?" Brianna responded, "Absolutely not!" Are you kidding me? I may be partial to my baby but regardless, what happened to customer service!?!?!? It was really uncomfortable and looking back I wish I had said something to her or better yet maybe the manager should have said something!!!!! I will continue to shop at other Petco locations because they carry the only food that agrees with my other dog but I refuse to go to this one again. read more

Came here to purchase a new pet for my son. He was looking initially at a leopard gecko or a crusted gecko. The staff was not helpful at all in assisting with these animals. Maybe the staff experienced with these animals wasn't there when we went, not sure, they didn't say. However, they didn't even allow my son to handle the animals. We were only there for a few minutes, then left. Staff didn't seem to care. read more

2 weeks ago I brought my 3 year old to get a pet we got a guinia pig. The guy helping us said they just got her in and that she's 4 months old. She was fine until last night and I looked up how old I thought she was which is way younger. Then today I get a phone call that she's dead. So I call the store and they want me to bring her back in so I had to leave work grabbed her and everything I had to buy for her. And the new guy helping us get my money back said she is only 8 weeks old!!!!!!! Asked me if anyone told me how old she was and I told him I was told 4 months which was a lie!!!! And I should have been notified that she needed vitamin c for her water. I was never told that !!!! And she was probably too young to be adopted out!!!!! Now I have to explain to my so why his new pet is gone bc a company didn't know how old she was. I find it crazy that the employees not know the age or what to tell customers no apparently they just make up something. I'm also surprised you don't get sued more I should have read the companies reviews because it's really sad and almost animal cruelty is what you guys are doing the breaking customers hearts. How do I explain this to my child or even to myself people grow attach to animals and except them to live longer then two weeks which btw which means she was only 10 weeks old!!!!! I really wish I had read the grooming reviews on this site before taking my beloved dog to get groomed here last Sunday. It was such a horrible experience, taking 7 hours for a small cockapoo that she was traumatized when she got home and the digestive issues associated with stress too. Rather than get into all the details, I will simply say that the other reviews were representative of my experience and that I will never shop at Petco for anything again (I can't give my money to a company that operates such a horrible grooming salon). I happily went to PetsMart yesterday to get my dog's treats and food and I will stick with Woofie's mobile or Olde Towne for grooming. Lesson learned, unfortunately the hard way for my little pup :-( read more

My experience was fine. While i was walking through, I was asked three times if I needed help. The staff was friendly but busy, as the place looked kind of messy as they were putting out their inventory. I only come to Petco for pet food and kitty litter and get distracted by all the toys they put out to attract the humans. Then, I keep coming back because every time one spends $100, one receives a $5 off coupon that must be used in the next 3 months. I am a sucker for those gimmicks. read more

Terrible grooming experience!!! The only reason they are getting one star is that I can't give them zero. They had my dog for six hours. When I called to ask when she would be ready they assured me it would be 20-30 minutes. When I went by an hour later she was still be cut which means they didn't start until I called. I had to wait another 15 minutes while they were finishing her while they were shutting down for the night. When she was finally done I had to wait again while they figured out how to properly enter the $108 into the register. I will never be going there again and I suggest anyone who needs grooming to go anywhere else! read more

I wish I could give this Petco store a zero star rating. I have been taking my Yorkiepoo to the Sterling Petco for almost 2 years. After several successful grooms, I was told that they could no longer groom my dog today due to the fact that he's a bitter. He has never bitten anyone, but it is true that he's high energy and doesn't like to get his nails cut. I instructed them to just leave his nails alone as did the senior groomer who successfully worked with my dog the last time, but she recently quit. Unfortunately, the groomers who work at Petco do not have a passion for dogs or grooming. Perhaps Petco should pay better, perhaps there's a retention issue? I don't know. I do know that I am now looking for a group of professionals who enjoy working with dogs and have made grooming their profession. I will not shop at any Petco chain in the future. After spending hundreds of dollars with this store, and attending training with my dog there (the training is a JOKE, but that's for another day) I am highly disappointed in their lack of professionalism.
