All I can say is this location has gotten horrible. My pup Castiel went through training classes here and groomed here for about a 1.5 years now. My other pup Meg has gotten groomed here for 1 year now. The best groomer I've worked with is Sam. He genuinely cares about the dogs. He was gone for a while between March-July, the other groomers we went through left razor burns on my pups so we spread out the appointments and leave the hair length longer. Come July Sam is back we're happy again! We go back to the usual cut length and setup follow up appointment. Aug we're informed for other reasons Sam could supervise the cut and bath of another groomer for our dogs. That's fine we want to be flexible. We've had this appointment for nearly 2 months and had a few reminder calls of the appointment. Today we take them in and one dog can't be scene because she needs an updates rabies shot. I'm fine with that but why couldn't they mention that during the 3 reminder calls I received. Y'all need to get it together. Definitely going else where for cuts from now on. So I've been trying to get ahold of Petco for the course of 5 days to confirm my dogs grooming appointment because I don't think they scheduled it as I usually get the confirmation text every single time. I've called all week multiple times a day just to get ahold of someone to confirm it and even left a voicemail for a call back yesterday and no call back. I called recently this morning and no one has answered again! It's like you have to drive over there to talk to someone which at this point I'm just going somewhere else where the customer service is better. Not only that but they've also raised the price on me to get my dog a basic groom than what I've normally paid in the past. The last time my dog went in was January and he was done in 15 min when a bath takes up that much time, I don't think they cleaned his ears or brushed him and did everything that is included. I've been getting my food priced matched here for six months and all of a sudden it is an issue. I could easily go to Chewie or Amazon but I would like to support smaller company pet stores because Amazon could cause smaller chains stores like petco to possibly close and there would not be a store. Bought some snails and was told they were guaranteed for 30 days. 3 days later 1 dies. Brought dead snail in for exchange. Told I also need a sample of my water. We're hugely disappointed in this Petco's service and lack of communication. Came in for our grooming appointment just to be told that they can't groom my dog because "three hours isn't enough time." If you knew that you needed more time with my dog, then why would you schedule an appointment with me for that time AND confirm it? After letting them know that the voicemail they sent me said that I can come in at my usual time (5pm) even though they would've preferred more time, I was just told that I should call instead of booking appointments online... why do you guys offer an online option if you insist that customers don't use it?? The manager was so much worse, even saying that two hours wouldn't be enough time to take care of our "fussy dog" since they close at 7. After a lot to do about nothing I told them that I will take him to Manteca for his bath. CRYSTAL quickly called Manteca Petco to tell them to refuse me. My dog walked into Stockton Petco on his own with no visible problems or wounds and was very calm per his usual but CRYSTAL still refused him a bath. All the groomers were standing around waiting for a dog to groom, it wasn't busy. I had my dog's pups groomed at the Stockton Petco too. I would say that I was a regular customer, I knew all the groomers and I know the store manager. I am very open and communicate well with the group. April 12, 2019 I came in for my dogs usual bath around 4pm and explained that he was newly diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and CRYSTAL refused to allow him to be bathed until they called his veterinarian to clear it with the doctor first. My dog goes to Bradshaw Veterinary Clinic in Elk Grove and Petco called them. The doctors at Bradshaw do not come to the phone for any regular calls or emergency calls and they certainly would not take a call for permission to bathe a dog. Stockton Petco became the laughing stock big joke over at my vet as they could not get their head around why a groomer would call for permission to bathe a dog. Needless to say CRYSTAL was out of control and has blown this out of proportion and she needs to be reprimanded and put the breaks on. I am a nurse and a good dog owner so think about this: if my vet had advised against bathing I wouldn't have brought my dog there in the first place. Second I believe CRYSTAL should post a policy if one exist and my last thought would be that since I am a regular customer MISS CRYSTAL could have informed me that SHE will now require a permission slip from the doctor to bathe my dog for any FUTURE visits instead of just turn me away cold turkey right then and there. I just call it like it is, very poor service. We won't be returning because they refuse to honor their promise to change the Leadership and our fur babies continue to suffer at their hands. read more

I found a parakeet hanging from a leg and complained to headquarters. The employees at the time were talking by the registers. His leg was bruised as if he had been there all night. It was early after the store opened. I went another time and two of the employees followed me around the store. Obviously they didn't like me complaining. I considered confronting them and complaining again but it is a waste of time. The best thing was to stop giving them my money so I did. Another time a bird was flying around the store. I imagine they did not feed the poor creature and he died of starvation. I asked an employee what they were going to do about him and she just said "oh yeah he got out". Do not purchase from this Petco location if there's a chance you might have to do a return. We purchased a couple betta fish and EZCare tanks a few days ago. Noticed that the .7 gallon tank became dirty too quickly and after doing some research, we found out that those tanks really aren't the best for Bettas, and they actually thrive in larger tanks. So we went back to petco and bought 5.5 gallon tanks for each fish and came in tonight to return the small tanks. Megan, the cashier, opens one box and says "eww." We already told her how the tanks got dirty so easily(we only had them in the tanks for one day). And the cup that my betta came in was filthy. She then proceeds to call a shift manager. Not even sure if she knows her own store's return policy; it's written right on the receipt. We even asked the cashier when we were purchasing them if we could return them if we don't like them and have used them and was told at two separate stores that yes, we most definitely could. The manager showed her told her what to do and she continued to have this rude attitude with us; not being friendly at all. She had this rude tone of voice even when it came time to swipe our debit cards. She didn't even let us input our pins and we thought that was completely odd since the reader stated to input your pin. When I asked her why are we not allowed to input our pin, since we ran our cards as debit, not credit. She didn't have an answer for us and simply stated, "that's just how we do it." From other pet stores and where I used to work, if you paid via credit, that's how you did your return. And if you paid via debit, you input your pin. With our system, debit automatically returned the money to the account and credit would take anywhere up to 5 business days to have the money transferred back into your account. She didn't know how to explain her reasoning, so she had to call a shift manager to assist her again. The same woman from the beginning came up and gave me a better explanation of how their system works. She didn't do it in a condescending tone or look at us as if we were wasting her time. I thanked her for explaining that to me and told her how Megan was just rude about everything. She then shot me a dirty look. If you want to get fish or aquarium supplies, go to Randy's Fish Palace. They were so helpful and actually take care of their betta fish. Sadly we learned about them AFTER we got our betta and supplies for them. For our dogs and rabbits, I'll just go to Discount Pet; they price match. And for pet food, the feed stores are so much cheaper. $16 for a 50lb bag of dog food. read more

Seeing the first employee near the entrance, I asked her if there's any medicine in the store that I can give to my dog for vomiting. I always use Petco grooming service for my dog and have never had my dog come home with razor burn and a poor choppy haircut. I have had her groomed at different Petcos in different cities and I have never been disappointed. I will never put my trust into a Petco grooming service again. My dog has several burns on her stomach area, razor burn between her armpits and creases between legs. I will be speaking with the manager tomorrow regarding my concerns but my dog is still in pain from Petcos grooming negligence. The clippers were either dull or weren't given time to cool off as well as being shaved to close to her skin. By the looks of the uneven clipper marks and burns whoever did this was in a hurry or just plain cruel to do this to an innocent dog. read more

They give you these awesome coupons with great deals. Well one of my coupons was a free kitty litter and wouldn't you know they were completely out. So They gave me the same brand just the bigger size!! What a deal, I'm very grateful and will be back to refill my litter ;) Both ladies have great personalities. Depending on what day you go in you might get good service. A lot of times they have a bunch of teenagers that do not know anything about where anything is. The higher ups at this store should teach their employees (Kate) the importance on respecting those spending their hard earned money at this establishment. I went in on Christmas Eve to return a carrier I had gotten for my dog in exchange for a bigger one , the shopping experience was okay until it came to me dealing with the Kate. After looking in my purse she took it upon herself to ask me if I had a receipt for the medication in my bag . This left me confused so I questioned what medication she had been talking about & I pulled my bag open once again to look inside to see what she was referring to. Once again not respecting me , my boundaries & personal space she leaned over the counter & once again looked in my bag. I then asked her was she really trying to accuse me of stealing & she responded by saying the item I'm my bag look like one they carry in store. I understand people make mistakes but it's never okay to humiliate & offend anyone ! After she handed me my receipt she left from behind the counter & went over to her coworkers & started talking to them , as I'm walking out I see the group of girls with smiles on their faces & this is what completely pissed me off ! I went to put my dog in my car & walked back inside to ask what was so entertaining about that moment. While going back & fourth with Kate and another employee, they claimed their conversation was about the fact that Kate felt bad for her accusations but I feel that she have been expressed directly to me because I was the one left humiliated, a genuine apology goes a long way & it could changed the entire outcome of this matter. When a manager finally came to the front of the store I felt no need to continue to talk to the two employees I had been arguing with & I tried to address the manager directly. While talking to the managers one of the employees kept interrupting me & I responded by telling her to quit talking to me . At no point did the manager try to defuse the situation , she never tried to intervene, she never asked her employee to step aside , she just stood there quiet while the argument continued ! It was clear there would be no genuine apology issued from any of the store employees involved & they missed my entire point. Those who give you business should never be left humiliated & offended. Been meaning to leave a comment. My yorkie and Maltese mix went in for grooming a few weeks ago. I showed a picture of how I would like my yorkie to look like and my Maltese to get a haircut but not too much. Well 4 hours later, I picked them up and my yorkie was shaved and nowhere close to the picture I showed them. My Maltese didn't get a haircut but instead, her paws were trimmed and some mats were removed from her ears and some of her nails were cut and some weren't...not much was done to her. I paid for 2 grooming service and didn't get the service. I was disappointed and not going back for any future grooming. I gave 2 stars because workers had an upbeat personality and they were nice. First time customer for pet grooming service and last time customer. I have a medium size, short hair breed dog and had a confirmed appointment for a bath and nail trim; told would be ready in 2 hours. I returned 2.5 hours later and they just finished letting him dry, no nail trim done. I asked the associate how long until the nails would be done; two hours, the complete service usually takes 4 hours. I was not happy with this response as I reminded the associate that I was told 2 hours, I immediately cashed out for the bath and the one associate called back and referred to my pet as the "the lab mix thingy", I'm sorry he does have a name. I'm sure this employee would not want to be referred to as "the blue hair thingy". Summery: 1. Service should have been no more then an hour, four hours to wash a short hair dog with a nail trim with an appointment, I don't think so. 2. Hire associates that are more customer conscious. 3. Appointments mean nothing other then its okay to bring your pet in for service. 4.Recommend that new customers do more research in finding a groomer to bring their furry friends too even if it cost a little more. **Updated note: I also left this same exact review on the Petco website and they removed it, I would not take anything seriously from this company. read more

Overpriced compared to Carter's petmart. Came in to get advantix for my dog. Went to Carter's first because it does have lower prices and its around $48 for 4 months. (Currently $10off) Came to petco because my sister gave me "merchandise cards" from returns she made before moving from colorado and advantix was over $60! Prior to looking, i asked to check the balance of the card. The cashier i went to did not know how. He called someone else over and she said that i HAD to make a purchase to get balance because it was a card for returned credit not a regular gift card. When i tried to use the merchandise card, they did not work and the cashier said it must be because there is no balance. She did not bother to ask me if i would like to keep the card which is my usual experience with gift cards and just left them on her counter. She also did not offer my dog (i had him in store with me) a treat after my checkout was complete. She was very friendly though....to the lady that was in line after me because she was a regular. There is a supposed petco manager on quora.com and she said an associate can check merchandise card balance in stores, nothing about needing to purchase anything. My cashier tried swiping several times but that was it. Whats the point of the card and pin # on the back of card then? What a waste of ink. The card probably was not activated by the personnel at the issuing store. My cashier also only tried the phone # method to look up my petco pals acct. I believe from previous experiences that you can search other ways but she didn't bother even after i told her i dont remember the phone # associated with my account. WORST pet store I've ever been to. I went here to get a quality doggie bed for one of my dogs that was ill. A male clerk there showed me a $100 doggie bed, said it was tear proof, bite proof, .. dog proof, and came with a life-time guaranty, and if there wss ever any problem, I could bring it back for exchange or refund, no questions asked, and no hastle. Well, the doggie bed only lasted about two weeks before it started falling apart. I took the doggie bed and receipt back to Petco. The manager asked to see the receipt so she could photocopy it. Then she refused to gice me my recript back!!! Then she refused to exchange it because she claimed it was no longer in re-sellable condition!!! She acted like it was coming out of her own pocket.She also claimed it didn't have a warranty like their sales person claimed, and he was "no longer with the company." I reminded her that they are responsible for their employees actions and statements. And whether or not it has a life-time warranty, I was returning it after only two weeks, well within the return policy. She still had other identical doggir beds, and I was only seeking an exchange for an identical item, but this female manager was rude, argentative, abraisive, and mean to the core. She refused to do anything for ne, and refused to give me myreceipt back!!! I tried to call their corp. headquarters, but they refused to take phonecalls from their customers! They want to take their customer's money and run, but not take their customers phone calls. I left a message, repeated my phone # 3 times, but never heard back from them. I also call their corp. office back 3 more timed, left mrssage each time, but never once got a call back! I called this local store back again, talked to an Assist. Manager, and told him my ordeal, and how rudely I was treated by their GM. He claimed he'd been sent there to clean up that GM's many messes, such as this, and promised me that if I brought the dog bed back, that he personally would exchange it or refund me, whichever I preferred. So I brouggt the dog bed back at a time he promised to be here working. But when I got there, the same rude, abraisive manager was there, he wimpped out to her, and she again redely refused to do anything for me!!! Well, I have five big dogs, they eat up five bags of premium, holistic dog food each month, and I buy it all from Petco's competitor. My dogs also need fee and worm control, dog houses, dog beds, food & water containers, bushes, collars leashes, harnesses, electric control cllars, wireless electric fences, ... obedience classes, toe nail trimming, grooming, dental care, obedience classes, ... and I'm getting all that too from Petco's major competitor!!! Petco is lossing many thousands of dollars in business, all because they wanted to cheat me on one item that I returned with receipt during the return period!
