I really like this Petco store. The manager Megan is great. Everyone has always been very friendly and helpful. If they are out of an item I want they will order it and have it shipped either to my home or the store. We took our dog, Sakura, to different groomers before and she would lays freak out, but ever since I took her to this Petco and she met Crystal... She loves to go there. Everytime we take her there they give her a massage, cut her nails, clean her up and she looks like a little diva!! I totally recommend Crystal. The short: Brought the furry children in for a grooming and left happy The long: Sure one Petco is usually about the same as the others. This particular location seems a little bigger than most and there is usually plenty of employees working. I've only had to buy items here a handful of times but usually they have everything I need in stock and it has been easy to find. The reason I most often find myself here is for pet grooming. I usually forget to call a few days ahead and schedule an appointment and luckily enough there is usually a few open slots I can squeeze into. My dogs usually fight when going to the groomer, but they don't do that here. In fact I think they may feed them treats the whole time they are here they are so eager. When I pick the dogs up hours later they are usually clean and brushed out. On a few occasions when I get home I find a few large mats that the groomers missed, but considering all the hair these dogs have I'll let it slide. I don't do any special cuts or anything so I cannot speak for those services, but for the basics they get the job done. What works: Usually open appointments and pretty good job grooming. What to improve: Consistency and double checking work. read more

Horrible manager!!! Went in to buy some fishes, and this bitch didn't want to sell me the fishes because according to her my 50 gal tank was too small for 3 fishes that I wanted to buy. So I had a trio of hermit crabs I couldn't take care of anymore. It was too much with the humidity and temp having to be just so, and add to that the expense of getting their food and salt water etc etc etc. Add to that, that the tank they were in had developed a crack ( I believe from the stick on heater, so keep that in mind if you keep any sort of reptile) so I decided to be weird and call the pet store to see if they'd take them. So I call yesterday morning...and I knew full well that more than likely they'd say no, I mean, it was a rather bizarre request. So I call and I get Rachel on the phone and she was pretty hesitant but she said she'd ask "someone". I assume that "someone" was the manager. She comes back and says to go ahead and bring them in. Ok. I call back ten minutes later to tell her that I'd be there after 5pm, and someone else answered. That person then told me that yes it was fine to go after 5 and they'd be waiting. Ok, that's all done and I'm sad and whatever. So after I get off work at 5, I pack them up in a container with sand and trek off to the store. Well every single one of the associates gathered around, the customers in the store gave me dirty looks cuz they had to wait for service cuz of me distracting everyone, and they said that they didn't know why anyone would tell me it was ok to surrender the hermit crabs and that they NEVER did that. I told them who I spoke to and then everyone walked away to talk about me i presume. So the person that "helped" me started to pick up one of the crabs and SHE DROPS HIM. You read right, she dropped him. Thankfully he landed in a semi-open drawer at the register..but seriously? They're not slippery or hard to handle! I just had wished that the morning staff had communicated with the afternoon staff that I was coming. I wish they hadn't made such a big deal to the point that other customers had to wait because everyone was gaping at the evil lady that couldn't take care of three hermit crabs. They keep a clean store and its way better than any of the other pet store in Stockton, but I didn't appreciate being put on the spot like that. read more

Here's why: At the checkout, using the POS device for my card , the very first thing I see on the display is: "Do you want to help save stray animals?" REALLY?? Befoe I could put in my pin, I had to anser Yes, or No to that question....... I answered No, because I assumed that the store was begging me for a donation I didn't feel like giving right then. I brought a brand new puppy in to get the initial essentials (food, crate, etc.). I really had my hands full with him in the store and trying to get the items through check-out and into the car. I didn't get any assistance on bagging up the items, or getting the crate out of the store (would have been nice, but not that big of a deal). As I was leaving the store with all this mess, the receipt flew off. My fault. I bought the crate for $99 but found the exact same one on Amazon for $45 (what a markup at PetCo, right!?). So I wanted to exchange the unused crate two days later. They were unable to retrieve my purchase through their system via the credit card used or the Pet Perks card and because I lost the receipt would only give me store credit. So now I have credit to a very overpriced store with crappy customer service. I will use the card for some food or treats, but after that wont be shopping here. I mentioned to the store manager that maybe if they had better service the store wouldn't have been completely empty when I tried to return the crate. It went in one ear and out the other. I've had incredible luck apparently, because employees have recommended food for my cat that had digestive problems, and have generally been very nice and attentive. I had a great conversation with the woman at the Friends of Animals adoption center near the front - it's great that a store provides space for all of the animals in need of homes, especially here in Stockton (take a trip to the animal shelter sometime to see what I mean). Went to Petco today in Stockton to get 4 Glofish, the girl that came to help me asked what size tank and I told her 5 gallon and been set up for three days, she said she recommends I only get 2 and then get 2 later. I told her I want to get all 4 now, well that pissed her off and when I asked if I could get the brightest ones and started looking at them she just quickly grabbed the first one she could catch out of each tank. It's not like they were busy either, one other couple in the store. She also informed me that because I was going against her recommendation they wouldn't guarantee them. I said fine and she said you can pick them up at the counter. They made sure they wrote in big letters on the receipt "No Returns". I spent $40 on 4 little fish and I didn't have to tell her what I was going to do with the fish. Just snotty and rude. I've been looking for a parrot for a while and I really liked the one they had there, but I'll never buy another thing from that store. I wish there was a ZERO STAR!!!! I will NEVER EVER come here again!! AWFUL and TERRIBLE!!! I've seen the groomers be verbally abusive and very short tempered with the poor pets they are supposed to be attentive to. The same girl I saw more than three times was extremely irritated and VERY impatient, telling and screaming at the dog she was working on even though the dog was so sweet and calm. Then they will charge you an extra $25 for "handling fee" for your dog if it doesn't put up with the abuse. These groomers need to be shut down!!! read more

The store I will always love, they always have what I need for my pets. But GROOMING has been acting different from their customer service. My Husky had went to the lake a few weeks back and had his hair matted the next day. When my husband tried to take him to the groomers I guess they said They most likely will have to shave him. My husband didn't like this, it took a couple more weeks for us to call again and I talked to one of the employees trying to understand on there end of how they might need to shave my husky because of his hair, I was being pretty understanding on how that might be too much time on there end. Then I looked more into it and called other grooming salons who told me it would just take more time and they can get out his matted hair and then one grooming salon said they have been getting a lot of clients from petco grooming from the bad costumer service and that they didn't need to shave my husky and that it would just take more time. I don't know what the reason petco grooming would feel the need to say they most likely need to shave my husky, maybe because they don't want to take that extra time of there job to do it or if it's just a new policy for them to get dogs in and out quicker for the business. Either way it's really disappointing that's the only option they had for my husky. read more

Brought my dads dog in to be groomed. He's a cranky 14 year old Pom mix who was long overdue for a grooming. when the clerk called an employee out to get the dog, I informed the young woman that he may snap at her. What does she do? she bends down and starts pulling his lips apart to look at his teeth. Why? Of course he snapped at her. the clerk asks...did he get you? she holds up her perfectly unharmed thumb and says yes. The clerk then tells me, we can't groom him. after they bite someone we can't groom him. besides, he's 14 years old. We've never had an issue at PetSmart. but then again, they never try putting their fingers in his mouth. VERY unprofessional!!!! read more

this was my very first trip for a groom, took her in at noon was told 3-4 hrs, we agreed on ears,toes,anal, she had want looked like infect in one ear, the wait time extended into a 6 hrs stay, when we got home I was checking her ear's to find they had not even been done, now my trust is broken with them so I will move on, very bad it hurts to give them a one star read more

I have been brining my pets to Petco since living in El Paso in 1990 and have always been happy with the cut and how my pets were treated. I have an older dog who has a stress disorder, she has been through a lot in the last 4 years and now when stressed she pulls her hair out and leaves her skin bleeding. I have explained this to the groomers when they found scabbing on her. Recently I was called to come get her immediately because she was in a kennel pulling her hair out. Prior to this I was being called about 10 - 15 minutes before she was done so kennel time was short if at all. Now I am told she can be in a kennel up to 3 hours unless I pay $10.00 for them to keep the appointment time I made for her to be done. In her last visit they said it would be up to 4 hours, in about an hour I was called to come get her because she had herself bleeding. When I got back to get her, they said the only way they could do her is by paying them the extra to keep the appointment (Zoom Groom" which I think is a total sham). If I make a 2 PM appointment, that is the time I expect them to be working on my dog, not 3 hours later. I called once I cooled off and had made a total mess of her cut by trying to do it myself and couldn't get her an appointment. Seemed they were too booked. The whole attitude there changed when I asked a groomer doing a quick "face, feet and fanny, to have my dog on a work table where my dog could see that I was still there. Ashlee and Brianna has been great with my dogs and my little older dog seems to really like them, its a shame that Petco can't find an appointment system that works. read more

Very upsetting. Groomers and sales associates never greet customers and once they do get in contact with a customer, they talk amongst them selves or one another before even asking the customer the reason for their visit. They need new management to put this staff in check. Majority of the rude ones are young. I was charged nearly $40 for my puppy's' visit which lasted 5 minutes for a nail trim and hair trim around his eyes. Out of all the times I've had him groomed he's never been so scared he peed on himself. On top of that the young buck "newbie" didn't even offer a tissue to wipe him. AND Who..? eats while they groom dogs? Ask Petco that question about their staff. They need to fix their staff's peoples skills and sanitation. Had a couple of bad experiences with them at the grooming department. I always schedule an appointed ahead of time. Two occasions where they were late to open up the store which is the same time as my appointment. I patiently waited outside 5 and 15mins for the employee to show up. Not a big deal, life happens and I do understand. On another occasion an employee called in sick and they weren't able to take in my appointment. What gives? They just gave me a call the night before to confirm my appointment. They told me the girl that suppose to groom my dog call in sick and they are short handed. They currently have 2 staff working atm. I ask them why can't one of the two groom my dog? The lady gave me a blank look and just slowly reply with that they're short handed. She also said she try calling me the morning of, but didn't get an answer. I call her out on her bs and pull out my cell phone and ask her which number is hers (Petco) through my call history. We had a dog signed up for dog training. We had a bad trainer, and we had to miss two classes, one because our dog was changing his teeth and his mouth was bleeding, but we contacted the trainer and explained the situation. We set up a make-up class, and happened again because of work, so, we called, and the lady who I can't remember the name said somebody would call me, but nobody called, so I decided to call them. The person that answer the phone who is the general manager was so rude over the phone, that I gave up, but she insisted that I should take my dog to graduate. I don't know how Petco has a general manager with a bad attitude like her. I don't recommend to nobody. A friend of mine, barely started and he gave up, didn't even requested his money back. I've always had great service coming to any pet co, this is a review on the health of their fish. I've had a 20 gal tank for quite some time now and normally have gotten my fish from a legit fish store, back in May I found a really pretty female koi betta at petco to add to my tank and within 2 days that fish and around 3-4 others in my tank had died then I noticed one of my black mollies was covered in white spots so obviously they had ich. I lost so many fish in my tank due to this one betta and I NEVER mix the water from the store with my tank and my water tests said all my levels were perfectly in balance, I test regularly. Figured it was a fluke. Fast forward to end of July early August I decide I would like to add more fish since half of mine had died due to the ich. I got a couple guppies and a molly. Almost all my fish died including the ones I've have had for a long time that survived the last go round of ich. Now my fish have ich and fin rot. Petco you guys seriously need to take better care of your fish or STOP SELLING THEM. Because this obviously isn't a fluke at this point. And again my water tests are normal this time as well but now I'm treating my tank again. Ridiculous read more

i bought a parakeet here and it took me about 30 minutes to find someone to help me. then the guy didn't even know what he was doing. he literally got half way into the cage, freaking out all the birds, cornering the one i wanted. it is a well kept place but they need more people working there. i don't think i have seen more than 2 people there ever. and the people never seem to know what they are doing either. i did talk to one girl on a register who seemed like she knew what she was talking about. one of those stars is for her. the other is for the cleanliness i guess. read more

Came here a few nights ago to get feeder fish for my turtles. I asked one guy where they have turtle supplies, and he had no clue. I found the turtle section by myself. I then headed to the fish section. I asked a woman to help me, she told me she was helping another customer. Ok that's fine. She told me as soon as the other employee finishes helping his customer, he will help me. So I sat there and waited. And waited. And waited. 15 minutes passed. I finally walk up to another worker who was in the front of the store doing nothing. I asked if she could help me get a few feeders. She has an attitude and tells me to wait for another employer to help me. I have been waiting 15 mins! Seriously? Needless to say, I left the store without purchasing anything. A lot of the people who work here are nice but my problem was with the groomers. I have taken my dog here for almost 2 yrs. Because my dog has a double coat and is seriously shedding chunks of fur. I asked for additional brushing which I know is extra because I have been going there for so long. The lady told me no problem and I left like normal. A few hours later got the call to pick her up, I couldn't get her so I sent my boyfriend. He got home and called me to let me know the groomer said to make sure and brush my dog before I bring her in to be groomed because there was a "German Shepard tornado of hair and they only have 15 min to brush the dog." I was a little ticked because I specifically talked with the lady when I dropped her off to get the extra brushing due to her shedding. I asked my boyfriend if they charged us for the additional brushing time and he said no, so at least we didn't pay for something we didn't get. But seriously I bring my dog to the groomers for you to groom her, not for you to tell me to do it before we bring her to you. Now, I'm in search of a new groomer, someone who will actually brush my dog as needed; not tell me to do not myself or charge me extra to finish the job. read more

Now, my dog has gotten his nails trimmed here before. Which the lady didnt do the best job, but she got it done. So there were no complaints, though...We literally went to this place 2× in a row to get my pet chihuahuas nails cut. The first day, there was only one groomer in & the guy said that he doesnt want to deal with my dog alone since he was being fussy. Understandable, but then he had the nerve to say that it was because my dog wasnt neutured. Which I overall think that my dog doesnt need to be neutured because his genitals havent caused any problems. Whether or not he had a penis or not, my dog is in general not kind to strangers. He has grown up with trust issues since we rescued him from a pitbull attack & the family that previously owned him didnt take good care of him. Which, is possibly why we spoil him & he has a spoiled attitude. Besides the point... The day after, we went again & there were several groomers there. They refused again to give service, because my dog was "fussy." Then one of the lady workers said that he didnt need his nail trimmed, because it wasnt hurting him. I know basic dog knowledge. I know that if your dog's nails are making clicking sounds on the floor, then it's too long & can possibly be pushing into his skin. Which is why he's been continously biting his paws, showing signs that he needed his nails trimmed. So in conclusion, I'm never taking my dog to be groomed here again because obviously they refuse to give service to my "unfriendly" chihuahua. read more

Were you raised to be rude and treat everyone with disrespect? Do you know what they do at other places? They just automatically send it back to the card on the receipt without the card being present so how would that have made you feel it going back to your "Mommies" card instead of your own pocket. Second off you got your way and got the return for everything and still proceeded to be rude and just wouldn't let it go when you already got your way because you had your "Big Boy Underwear" on yay for you man you know how to raise Hell over something dumb you should've just been happy you got the return in your pocket instead of like other places where they return it automatically to the card that purchased all that stuff. And as for your comment about getting store credit you were trying to return a GIFT CARD too!!! The guy asked you if you wanted to keep the gift card because you went on claiming how much you spend all the time there so don't try to pull the you would've been fine with store credit when you wouldn't even keep the gift card you got too. 4 Stars for the Store 0 Stars for the ridiculous customers that are nut jobs there postponing everyone else day. read more

Hi, I wanted to post a review regarding their fish/aquarium department. My son wanted to buy a bamboo shrimp to put in his tank, he had read on them and had information. We went to PETCO, and as usual we never seem to be able to get help from anyone, or it takes forever. We had a young man who helped us and approached the tank with these shrimp and he said "eeewww", I said "are you ok", he said yeah "I don't like crustaceans, they're ugly and gross". I thought he was joking, and then acted like he was catching something dangerous. I think that is an inappropriate way to act around a customer and actually deters people from wanting to buy fish there, I was the customer not him, I was paying for it not him. If he doesn't enjoy his job maybe he needs to find a new one. You just don't behave like that around customers, he can do it once we leave or when he cleans out the tank. It seems that all the good employees have left this Petco. I was just in there on 6/10/17 looking for a refill filter for my tank. I could not find the filter and had questions about another filter they had. I walked around the store several times and could not see any one working except the lady at the register. I then went back to the aquatics section and looked at the box of the tank that I had bought which didn't help and decided to grab it and carry that around the store looking for SOMEONE, ANYONE at this point. Nobody. Also the person I was with was patiently waiting for the aquatics specialist to show back up to help him get a snail from their tank but again, nobody showed up. He walked around and only saw the volunteers that had brought animals with them and were doing demonstrations. We left and I let the girl at the register know that nobody is in the store, which she offered to call someone but I was just done at that point. I called and tried to let the manager know but she informed me, with an awful attitude, that there were several employees on the floor but were all helping somebody. She knows because she was helping one with a customer... WHERE they were doing this I have no idea because I literally saw NOBODY EXCEPT the volunteers who are not store employees. I hung up at that point and will be going to either the Lodi store or the Tracy one. Thank you Stockton Petco for being terrible. Appreciate it. read more
