I came here when my dog was a puppy in the beginning of 2018. The lady that groomed him first said he had a little anxiety but with monthly grooming it should go away. His cut was beautiful then. After that she did It another time but now I no longer see her there and every cut after that was terrible. He began to have really bad anxiety so I stopped bringing him for like 3 months thinking he can use a break. Then they called New Year's Eve and asked if he could come back for a groom. He needed it pretty bad so I called today. Got in right away cause they had no customers. When I picked him up he was shaking uncontrollably and whining. The person there (not the one that groomed him) said "he did terrible like my co-worker said when she called you" I said I never got a call! She said "oh well she said she was going to call but yeah he was not good at all." I looked at him and tried to stay calm. He was chopped to all hell with two bald spots on his snout and he still had his ear hair and nails were not clipped. She said he was so aggressive (my dog has never been aggressive or mean to anyone by the way) that they might not be able to groom him anymore beings they don't muzzle. So she didn't clean his ear hair, trim nails and she wasn't sure if she brush his teeth or did his anal gland" I said not sure?!? The lady relaying this to me seemed to have major anxiety telling me this cause she was shaking and gave me the wrong paperwork and wouldn't even look me in the eyes. Saying they will evaluate him on his next visit and let me know if they can keep grooming him or not. I had to give him a calming aid when he got home he was so traumatized! And they still charged me 70 dollars for shampoo/conditioner and the hair cut only! Never again read more

If you are going to carry saltwater fish and corals, then do it right or don't do it at all. Your corals are all dying. Years ago they were dying then too so it was my hope the remodel would be worth the visit, nope. Either you don't know what you are doing or you do not have the right equipment to even temporarily hold them. Since they are only $15 frags of mostly very hardy species it might even be both variables. If they were healthy those frags would be flying off the rack. Right now they should come with a disclaimer so a newbie doesn't think they killed them a week later. Btw, I was in there for 10 minutes looking at that bunch and no one said boo, or hello. Whatever it's Petco. Next, waiting on hold for someone in the fish department to pickup the phone should not take longer than it takes me to drive from Redondo to Torrance. Btw, they never picked up. 2:30pm. Thus this visit. Thus this review. Since I had to drive here for the 2nd time to see if you had the chocolate chip stars in stock because the phone is too much trouble for you it would have been forgiving if the stars were back in stock as I was told they would be. Nada one. And you should pull out the dying sand sifting star before it mucks up your water. It's not upside down, it's dead or dying. A healthy star can flip over in under a minute. Ok, the fish. Cruel. And sick. They should be housed according to compatibility. You obviously don't treat with meds since you have random corals in with them. So the firefish that was practically pecked apart by the more aggressive wrasse housed with him will most likely die if you don't treat with an antibacterial soon. Stupid waste of life. Btw, API Melafix is reef safe and you carry it. From my understanding you guys bought DFS and thus LiveAquaria. You need to hire someone that understands how to create and maintain the systems properly...and you need someone to hire hobbyists and seek experts to train them. Otherwise, you should stick to freshwater only. And I'm not talking about your current in store employees. This is not their fault. This is an upper mgmt issue. Executive level. If these were dogs you'd be in the news for cruelty. There are people that would love to see you do it right. I for one could easily be lured away if I thought your company was serious about this area of aquatics. Could be a dream job to untangle this hairball. You get one star for a female fish employee helping me with a question last week on arrivals, she was pleasant. You get another star because the corals were organized with their labels on the tanks, although I couldn't help but think those tags were like little tombstones since they were all dying. Hint. After lighting, pH, salinity and temp you should check your Ca and Alk numbers. My bet is you have lousy lighting and your tank isn't being dosed. A frag/holding system should be easy to maintain but it will require the right equipment and someone that gets it. You don't have either. read more

Today I stopped in this store to pick up an item that the manager said he would 1. price match petco.com 2. hold for me for 24 hrs. When I came in, I went straight to the counter and waited for both "ladies" to get off what was obviously personal calls. Then up walks a 3rd employee with a customer and helped him first, even though it was obvious I was waiting. When she finally helped me, I told her I was there to pick up an item the manager had set aside for me. WIthout even looking she said there's nothing here. After I proceeded to explain the scenario, she looked at me with dead flat eyes and said,she knew nothing about it. I asked if she could do anything for me, which she responded with a resounding "no". I asked her to call the manager and ask him herself, which she refused. We were coming in a little worried because we saw negative reviews for grooming, but Brionna was absolutely great. She welcomed us in the nicest manner, and made sure we got the cut we wanted for our dog. We told her about a previous grooming appointment that we were not too happy with and really helped us feel confident in sending her here. When we picked our dog up, she was too cute! This Petco has the sweetest cats for adoption. They used to just have them every Saturday and Sunday but now near the grooming section they have a permanent cat cage. It made me almost sick seeing those poor sweet cats in such a small space covered in vomit and feces. I was very upset. They are not taking care of those cats and it's unfair to them. This is the most convenient location to my home so I will continue to shop here but I hope that they improve the conditions for the animals on site. Their rabbit cages are also a very sad sight, dirty and outdated. The service is okay but at times it can be a little slow. read more

BEYOND unprofessional and had the audacity to question my care for my dog when my dog is not only healthy as heck but she wouldn't even take the time to look at my dogs matted hair in her rear from swim class. I went into Pet Co today to get some nail clippers for my killer Pit Bull, just kidding- its a chihuahua. No, it really is. I asked an employee, who happened to be stocking shelves for some help. I asked the employee, later identified as "Angie," where the nail clippers were. Not only did she escort me to the nail clippers, but she provided detailed directions as well as "tips" as to how they were utilized. All i asked for was the location of the clippers! Angie was great and if all of their employees are like her, this place should jump up a few stars very soon. I also liked the Dog Snack Bar in the middle of the store. Pretty cool idea if you ask me. Oh, why aren't I giving them 5-stars? Because the outside if the place looks like it was hit by Hurricane Katrina. And the floors look like a bunch of muddy Greyhounds raced around the store. Pet specialist Anthony was amazing today. What I appreciated was his actual knowledge regarding animals .... particularly chinchillas. I asked to Hold your girl chinchilla today and he warned me she was very temperamental and often nibs (even him) but I still took my chances and explained to him I have guinea pigs, rabbits and I even hand feed Squirrels. I appreciate him trusting me with holding her and I fell in love with the chinchilla. He even offered me an amazing deal because he wanted her to go to a good home with lots of love. I've been to a bunch of pet places and I am shocked at how Little the people that work there know about animals. Anthony renewed my hope in honest quality service today. Even though I already have 6 cage free animals, I am considering this sweet chinchilla because of the way Anthony let me interact with her and the way she was with me, once She felt safe and got the chance to be socialized. My Favorite pet store for many reasons but the main one is Ricardo, my trainer. He is amazing. He has saved my sanity with my newly adopted dog Benny who barked at every dog in class for weeks. Ricardo kept giving me tools to correct the behavior and kept assuring me it would be okay. I thought I might I go insane! He kept guiding me and "BOB BARKER" class after class. Guess what? He is a genius! Benny is now playing and interacting with other dogs. Now we are seeing Benny's real personality Ricardo said. Thank God for Ricardo! We are doing the three part classes to get Benny AKC good dog certified not because I care about a certificate but because I want Ricardo to work with him long term. Ricardo is the only trainer you will ever need. A true asset for Petco. Jimmy, Tim and the other staff are always friendly and helpful. I go to this Petco for the grooming services and its the closest one to me. My first visit was the best one. I take my border collie mix, Lizzie, to get a bath and shave about every 4-6 months depending on how my finances are. So usually by the time I get her to be groomed she is a hot mess. I give props to who ever grooms her because I think Lizzie gets pretty gross, I am a dog attendant and we provide grooming but even I don't want to groom her. So I cough up $80 to get the deed done. I like this place but I give it 3stars because none of my other visits was like the first visit. She was handed to me with adorable bows in her hair by her ears and I just loved that. I guess it was just a one-time thing. But this place is great, staff has never been a problem to me and Lizzie always come home smelling good :) read more

However, I didn't know what to feed...what to do with her...so I went to this petco for help. I told them what happen to me and they told me how to take care of rabbit and gave me coupon book, so that I can buy a food for her. The rabbit had a infection on her face and she lost all her face hair... She was look like "rat is wearing rabbit suit ". So they recommended me to take her to the local animal hospital. This shop is that first Petco I have visited in my life long time ago. So I thought all Petcos' services are same qualities, but I was wrong. I found that "this shop is special very good" at years later. It links to another my review that I asked cat food exchange. I bought a bag of cat food in another Petco and I backed to there to ask exchange to new one for the cat food with something in it. An employee of another shop said, "this bag is almost empty" and took care be dishonestly. I brought the bag to this shop (Torrance) and asked same thing to manager (I even didn't have receipt). He said, "Any complain if our customer has, we exchange to new bag". And gave me new one. After this incident, I bought another food in somewhere else. That food was a week before expire at that time. Of course I didn't know that and I found it a week after expired. (I know it kind of my fault.) I brought this bag to this soup (Torrance), and I told an employee, "this food is expi(red)..." This employee said, "Oh! Could you grab another bag from shelves? Do you know where it is?" And she trashed the bag. She didn't ask about receipt, where I bought or when I bought. I guess the manager educates employees very well. (I felt little guilty same time.) At different time (after above 2 incidents), I couldn't found a particular kind of dry food at 3 Petcos. I wanted 4 lbs bag, but they only had 15 lbs bags. that is too big for my cat. (Petsmarts don't have this food). I called Torrance shop and asked they have it or not. Young boy answered, "Yes, we have it". I confirmed, "Is it 4 lbs bag?" He said, "Yes". And I visited there, but they didn't have 4 lbs bags actually. I said, "I asked 4 lbs bag and a boy said yes". A woman employee said, "I don't know who that was, but do the math. 15 lbs bag is cheaper in weight". I thought, 'who eat the potato chips that bag was opened 3 months ago?' But wait! This Petco exchange food to new one with any problem. So I can bring in this bag when food got damp. I still have this bag of cat food and I gave some of them for my neighbors, because I don't really want to return it this time. I don't want to abuse their good will. Shop is clean, employees are nice, a lot of stock, and rabbits are huge!! read more

Came to check out the fresh water fish for my nephews aquarium and most of the glo fish have ich, it sucks that they don't even know what they have and only 2 of their tanks are marked as under observation when really they should be letting customer know that their fish are infested with parasites, I'm sure alot of their customers will not know since the ones infected are the ones targeted toward kids...i recommend to stay away and go to a mom and pops petstore for your fish since these people don't care to even treat their fish with the medicine they have on their shelfs. read more

Every time I go there there is dead fish on the floor, on the intakes and just floating around. I have complained and they said they were going to fix it but two weeks later there are still fish on the floor. A place that sale live animals and care less about them is NOT a good place to buy. I have been there like ten times in the past few weeks and there is always fish dead on the ground.. sometimes more than one.. also there is not enough employees and the ones there are are scrambling to help everyone.. not experience people sale fish and they have no idea. The rating I gave is based on my overall experience at the grooming department. If this were based solely on today's visit, it would be a solid 5-star... Service in the actual store has always been excellent. Fantastic staff... Today was my fourth visit to Petco's grooming department. Two of the prior three visits were not great for my dog. Not that there was anything the staff did to make it a terrible experience, but for some reason my dog appeared to have anxiety when going to groomer. The second visit he did ok but I also noticed his fur didn't feel very clean. Today's visit (the 4th) was outstanding! When first arriving and checking in, my dog was losing it. He is a 90lb German Shepherd and was doing all he could to hide behind a small bench. Did not work out to well for him... The groomer eventually walked out to greet and check us in for our appointment. She immediately noticed how nervous he was and took the time to introduce herself to him. She sat on the floor and began to pet him and calm him down. In past appointments, the groomers simply put the leash on him and led him to the back. In most cases, pulling him. Today's groomer (Jessa) was fantastic! When she eventually took him into the back, I could she slowed her pace to better calm him. He responded accordingly and walked calmly (more or less) to the back. Prior to walking away, she apologized because he would need to take a lunch break, which meant he would need to be kenneled longer. Obviously, there was no need to apologize or explain the need to take a lunch, but the fact that she expressed concern for having to kennel him while she broke away, was very nice. A few hours later, Jessa called to tell me my boy was ready for pick up. Usually when arriving to pick him up, he's going nuts, trying to get out of there. Tonight, he was much calmer. Still had the nerves going, but much less than other times. I am sure this was all due to Jessa kind demeanor with him. I will be scheduling regular visits with her from now on. BTW, Jessa is apparently a new hire... Excellent selection, Petco! Thanks, Jessa! read more

This was my first time in a Petco. I don't own any pets, but this place looked as if it had everything your pet would need and more. It had a large aquarium section (with tons of fish and turtles), sizable cat and dog section, bird section (with live birds), rescued bunny's, chinchillas for $169, surplus of toys, and even a grooming service. They sold me a parakeet one time that died in one week, when I brought it back which according to the policy was not a problem, they looked at me as if I killed the damn thing. She kept asking me weird questions like what we did with it, lady I have no clue? The thing just fell off of the stick Inside the Cage and died on its own.
