My dog is extremely fluffy, so in the summer he tends to need a good shave. Unfortunately, he also has separation anxiety, which can make it tricky for him to be groomed. But when I took him to Calleen at Petco, she managed him very well. Within a few hours she had shaved him down (even on his tail, which he usually doesn't let people shave), groomed him, and cleaned his teeth. Nice job! read more

We shopped at this Petco because it's the closest to our house and our dog needs food. We dropped off our dog for grooming and the 'supervisor in the grooming department started scolding an employee right in front of us! My husband and I were having a conversation with her asking about our dogs grooming needs and she just switched the conversation over to scold the poor employee. I don't know if she was showing off or was on a power trip but it was totally unnecessary and 100% unprofessional. He was so embarrassed but kept his composure, how humiliating. To make matters worse we returned 2 hours later (after they called and said our dog was ready) to find that they didn't trim his nails, they didn't do a sanitary cut, they didn't add paw balm a bunch of "didn't" so upsetting. We also tried out their dog trainer Ricardo but we just weren't feeling it, We much prefer the Petco in North Redondo Beach off of Inglewood Ave. for their training program, grooming and customer service. We actually drive 6 miles out to go Redondo Petco instead of the half mile to this location. read more

This review is based on my phone call with the grooming dept. I have physically been to the store itself and never had a problem. I called to get a quote to get a bath and brush for my French bull dog. The grooming rep quoted $45!!!! I clarified it was a small/ medium sized dog that weighs 18 lbs, and still she said her quote without looking at my dog was about $45!!!! I normally go to petsmart which is right down the street, they were booked up for The night which I now understand why, they charge me $21.99 vs petcos $45 !!! Go down the street for grooming guys!!! But make sure you have an appt. I don't understand from a business standpoint how they don't realize their biggest competitor down the street is less than half their price for grooming. To be honest it may not even be the reps fault Petco has much higher price than petsmart but now you guys know. Now I wonder what else is overpriced at Petco. read more

I never had problem with any purchase from this Petco, but the cat adoption service at this location was horrible! I turned in an application to adopt two kittens on 8/25/12 to them and was told they will be delivered to me in two weeks. I waited, and waited, and waited, no delivery. So I decided to visit them after five weeks of long wait. I had to make two trips to Petco because cats arrived an hour late on 9/29/12. I asked two women about those two kittens, one said they were too sick to be adopted, the other said they have been adopted by someone already, I questioned the second woman why I was not given a chance to adopt them, in fact, I was the first one that requested those two kittens. She flipped through a pile of application and said she could not find the form I turned in Five weeks ago. Even though I felt quite frustrated, I followed her direction to fill out another application on the spot. I wanted to adopt a cat that was left alone when her two sisters were taken away by another customer. The woman in charge asked me about ten questions and told me to wait for her call next week. I asked her why I could not adopt that cat just like the other applicants, and why I was the only one that had to wait, she said she had to compare my second application to my first application. I told her the other woman lost my first application, she insisted that she remembered seeing my first application which stated my cat was run over by a car and was killed. I said I never had any of my pets run over by car, she must have made a mistake. She said she would not make a mistake. Even the other woman confirmed that she could not find my first application, the woman in charge insisted on what she believed she saw! Witnessing the other applicants holding their adopted cats/kittens, versus the sad and disappointed looks on my son's face, I could not stand the humiliation any more. At that time I realize I will never be able to adopt any cat because that woman in charge dislike/discriminate us! I spent almost two hours at Petco on 8/25, and another two hours on 9/29/12 and totally wasted my time! I wish I could have had a fair chance to offer one of those adorable cats a loving and caring home, but our kindness was stepped on by a bunch of hypocrite who called themselves cat lovers! I am sharing my heart-breaking experience with all of you, so that you will not have to go through the same sad situation that my 9-year old son and I had to! read more

I took my Sons cat in for Vaccines, on a Saturday , Jan 2nd 2016. I was in line , filled out paper work . A worker approached me said I needed a cat Carrier or the Vet wouldn't give the cat shots, I purchased the Carrier waited in line again. Went up to the Vet , the Vet opened the Carrier the cat flinched and that's it . The Vet refused to give him shots because she said the Cat wasn't friendly Really? But actually it was a blessing in Disguise because I then took the Cat to San Pedro SHA Shelter The Cat received all his shots including Deworming and got his nails trimmed for 55.00 . The Vet their said my Sons cat was so calm and pleasant he didn't even move when he was given the shots and nail trim.. Never will I go back to Petco with their snobby Vet . You guys don't bring your dogs here. Worst experience ever! I brought my dog for the first time ever to get just a nice bath, nail trim, cleaned ears, and a blowout. Nails were cut so nasty and uneven and my dogs ears weren't even fully cleaned. Waste of my money and time. And on top of that my dog didn't eat breakfast not really sure what the groomers did to her or what they gave her but she was acting very strange and when she hopped in my car she barfed all over the place. He is hands down the best guy I came across when it comes to customer service, being out going, energetic, and most of all very helpful!! When I come inside the store, he always makes me feel wanted and welcomed. He helps me out with every question that needs to be answered and makes it less stressful for me. For being a first time reptile owner, i had lots of questions on owning 2 water dragons and a basilik. When 2 of the water dragons had swollen eyes, and weren't eating, he recommended me a home remedy to help cure them and ever since then, they been so healthy!!Anthony knows a lot of tips and secrets that a vet would charge me a lot. what's with the extra charge? went here to try their grooming. i could have done it myself since i used to be a groomer but i needed to replace my clippers and opted to just have someone else do it instead as they are about $100. groomer was nice enough and did a good job. i do feel bad that i did fall asleep and went to go pick up my dog about an hour late after the groomer had already left but i never even got a call that the appointment was finished after i wrote down my number for them. when i got there i saw that they added a $15 dollar charge for "extra brushing" i asked the groomer to use the 10 blade all over and that should cut through any knots or matts. like i said i used to groom dogs. maybe this was just the groomers way of ensuring she gets some kind of tip. i was going to leave one but oh well. looking at the other reviews it seems like this is something that happened to other people too. so if you do bring your dog here just make sure you're able to pick up the dog right away so you can talk to the groomer if they try to add unnecessary charges read more

I've been to this Petco a few times before and the service has been ok... until today. I had to return something I ordered from online so the manager had to help me. An older guy came to the register to help me. Did Santa forget to get him a present? I didnt even get a hello or anything. During the whole transaction, he said nothing until I was leaving. He said a quiet thank you. And he's a manager? I guess with the economy, they will let anyone be a manager, which brings me to my next review... about another employee.... in the same shopping center at Vons!!! This is for the self serve dog wash. The tub height was very comfortable. Thankfully my 60lb dog willingly climbed on the small step and I noticed the metal part of the tub that you can remove for your dog to get in. They did have a squeeze bottle with what they call shampoo. The shampoo was so watered down it actually looked like water and did not lather up at all. Conditioner did not exist. Aprons did not exist. The water was nice and warm, however there was no adjustment to the nozzle and it came out strong. Ok, so this so called bath is complete and my dog is standing in all the dirty water,since the tub would not drain. Got the dog out of the tub and had no post to hook his leash on. I found the towels behind me and they were obviously old and worn,not absorbent.Forget about using the dryers,only blew out loud cold air. The cashier was friendly. read more

This location is so boring; I would only come if I really needed something ASAP for my chinchillas or my dogs since it's closer to my house. If I really feel like shopping, I drive a lil further to take my dogs to Petsmart on Sepulveda. They love it there, it's roomier & has a huge selection of stuff. This Petco seriously depresses me. I used to own 3 chinchillas, and the chinchillas here are trapped inside a TINY GLASS CAGE with NO ROOM to run around, NADA. I know a lot about chinchillas; they're supposed to at least have a wheel to run on so they can get their daily exercise (which is a MUST). Also, chinchillas like to jump around; their cages have absolutely ZERO room for them to even jump half a foot. All I see them do is sit there & sleep. Being such a huge animal lover, that just saddens me..I can't imagine my pets being in that position. Horrible. At least at Petsmart they have a HUGE glass cage for chinchillas to hop around & get some exercise. This I find so ridiculous. It's store is so small, my Lab just bumps into everything & there's not much to find here. The staff are WEIRDOS. Sorry guys. When I took my German Shepherd puppy here, one of their managers was horrified to be next to my dog. Why do you even work here if you're so afraid of a PUPPY?! Please don't go on telling me your sob story of how you got bit by one in the past & then act like my dog is going to do that to you. That was ridiculous for her to share that story with me, I found it somewhat offensive. Second time I brought my puppy, she was staring at her from the register like she was the most evil dog on earth. Gosh. And another employee..I notice her there all the time, but she seriously looks like a depressed gothic chick. I would always see her pouting, never a smile on her face, ONCE! Cheer up Petco! I love pets & I would be super happy if I were to work in an environment surrounded by them! This Petco just doesn't have that friendly-feel to it. Wish they could hire an entirely new staff. The one person I like: Masumi. She only does training classes on certain nights (she doesn't work at Petco full time). I used to work with her at a dog day care called Sunny Dog Place (in Harbor City), and she knows her shit! I'm serious. She can deal with the most aggressive / difficult / hard-to-figure-out dogs, big or small. She's really an amazing trainer. I learned a LOT from her. read more

I came here to buy super worms and meal worms. When I opened up the containers, most of the worms are dead and smell really bad. It seems like Petco doesn't maintain their bugs enough. Though, there was a sign that said they were on sale so I bought them. The cashier wasn't all that nice, didn't greet me and didn't give me the discount even when I told her there was a sign. I have found a few reptile stores that sell their bugs in way better condition and for a lower price. read more

I came to this petco to get my dog groomed. The groomer Diana was super rude from the start!!! I informed her that my dog is scared of getting groomed and to please be patient and gentle with her. She ignored my comment and informed me that the last time I came here, the other groomer charged me less and that she will have to charge me more. I didn't really understand, but I said okay. When I asked her how long it would take, she told me 3 hours. By the second hour Diana called me and said my dog was ready to go pick up. I thought that was unusual because usually it takes the groomers around 3-4 hours because they are gentle with her and give her time to calm down. When I got there, I bent down to greet my dog and Diana asked me if I was going to grab her from there and I told her yes and that I'm going to put her harness on first. Once I told her that, she threw the leash onto the floor. So rude!! I'm never going back here again. My poor dog is acting scared and has been shaking since I took her. This place has the worst customer service via phone. I called about a harness for my dog. I was put on hold for 10 minutes the first time then hung up on. I called back then put on hold 8 minutes the second time when someone got back on the phone and asked how she could help I told her the situation, got put on hold again for 10 minutes and then someone came on the phone asking if they could help me. I finally asked for the manager (again on hold for about 10 minutes) and he said they don't have it. So annoying, that's all they had to say in the first place. Ask your manager if you don't know or learn about your products. But dont waste almost an hour of my time! read more

My very first experience at this Petco Grooming Salon has to be the worst. My sister took her pup that just had neuter surgery, and the last thing he needed was to be in a stressful situation but I could tell Sam the pup went through a very rough one at the Grooming. I found out his stomach area had been nicked or cut from shaving too close. They shouldn't cut his hair that short or close to skin. His testicle area that recently had surgery was red, too, due to too close shaving...it looked raw. I was MAD after I saw the wounds.. They still charged my sister extra for the matted ears. I could not believe my ears. I mean, if they had made such mistakes by inflicting wounds on the pup, they should've had the decency to be honest about their mistakes and waive the extra charge. Plus, their prices are not that affordable in comparison to other local grooming places such as Lovely Dog Beauty Salon. I would NOT recommend Petco Grooming. I highly recommend Lovely Dog on Torrance Blvd. They're great and prices are very fair. Just do NOT go to Petco Grooming Salon. I'm really mad when I think about how Sam is unable to tell us his horrible nightmare. read more

Looking for a great deal!! This is the Petco to get just that.. What I'm about to tell you may not be ethical however these days everyone is looking to get a good deal. While shopping at this location I was trying to find some fish tanks and they were all very expensive. I ended up talking to the specialist whose picture is in the department so put two and two together. At that moment I asked is there anyway I can get a better deal on some of these tanks? She replied "well I have an idea!!" While watching her rip the box open to claim it was damaged It made me feel very uncomfortable. Being an honest person I said wait a minute are you sure this is ok. Her reply was "I do this all the time for customers".. Everything I've browsed or bought has been overpriced. Very limited fish selection. Fish food is around $4 more that what it should be. The last thing I bought there was a cat litterbox scooper. Their most modest scooper was $2.99 and it kinda sucked. I saw a much better scooper at CVS for $1.99. There are never any real deals here. I've also had a bad experience on the phone with a worker there. I think I was simply checking stock on an item and asked a couple of simple questions, and the guy was a total dick. read more

Great place to go to for your pet. I got my dog a Pet I.D. Tag which turned out really well and I always get my dog the food he loves. If you want to buy a bird, fish or rabbit, they are there and so are all the supplies. They occasionally have cat and dog adoptions. this is the perfect place to go. read more
