I took my 10-month-old Bernedoodle, Penelope, to PETCO Grooming on June 14 at 7am with Bella. This wasn't her first grooming--she usually goes to Prickly Pup Grooming, where she's always well-behaved and treated with care, though their full-day schedule (8am-4pm) can feel a bit long. Hoping for a shorter appointment and maybe a lower price, I gave PETCO a try. Unfortunately, I ended up paying $30 more than usual and left feeling disappointed. Around 10am--June 14, I received a call from the groomer, Bella saying Penelope was agitated, barking, and even biting/snipping. This was shocking to hear--Penelope is a sweet, friendly pup who has never barked at a stranger, or been the least bit aggressive, even with my three young boys (10, 8 and 4) who aren't always gentle with her. I figured she might have been overstimulated in a new environment, so I came to pick her up, even though she was only half groomed. I was told I still had to pay but could return the next morning (June 15) for the salon manager, Jackie to finish the job. The next day's appointment went much smoother. Penelope looked great, smelled fresh, and even got a little bag of treats. She seemed happier and back to her usual self. But when we got home, my boys pointed out that there were small blood stains on her--initially, I assumed she was starting her first heat cycle and used dog diapers, but after a few days of seeing more blood (and none on the diapers), I finally did a full inspection and found a cut on her ear. It wasn't healing on its own, and after trying spray-on animal wound glue with no luck, we ended up needing a vet visit, a few stitches, and a cone to let it heal properly. I now believe the ear injury happened during that initial appointment with Bella, which might also explain her distressed behavior that day. What's most disappointing is that no one mentioned it to me--whether they missed it or just didn't want to admit it, I'll never know. I would have appreciated transparency, even if it was just an accident. Instead, I was left to figure it out myself after spending extra on products and a vet bill. The staff at PETCO were polite and professional, but unfortunately, the overall experience left me feeling let down. I'll be returning to Prickly Pup for future grooming--longer appointments or not, I know Penelope is treated with care and consistency there. read more

I would say that the groomers here are very nice, and I have had many good experiences up until the last one. Firstly, I schedule my appointment for 2:15pm on Wednesday, and I received a text message the day before asking if I could come in at 3:30 instead. Which fine, I didn't mind coming in a bit later. The real issue I had was upon my arrival; I was signing the paperwork and the discussion about my dogs heart murmur came up. They have groomed my dog multiple times prior to this, the last time being a couple months ago. They are well aware of my dogs heart murmur and that she is medicated for it. I was given some song and dance spiel about how they can't groom dogs with grade 4/5 heart murmurs and that they don't medicate for heart murmurs under a 4. I was confident that my dog's heart murmur was less than a grade 4, but wasn't specifically sure, and I was attempting to check my dog's patient portal to make sure (ended up calling my vet after). However I was pretty much just told "we're sorry, go home". Which annoyed me. The appointment was over an hour later than scheduled and I was turned away to no real reason in the end. My dog's heart murmur is a 2.5/3 according to my vet, but I wasn't allowed to check prior to leaving. I also was perturbed that the groomer said she talked about it with her manager before texting me the previous day, and didn't think to ask me then about the grade when I was asked to come in over an hour later. Overall, I hauled my 4 year old child, and 14 year old dog to the groomers and came away with nothing. Also, I was told some other place does dogs with medical conditions but was told "they're very very expensive" with an odd tone. The expense doesn't matter to me, I only bring my dog to petco because I live across the street lol. Terrible experience this time, very frustrated, and won't ever be coming back. It's unfortunate that this event now over shadows the good experiences I had prior. It felt like she was over booked and over worked and needed an excuse to not deal with me, which we are all human, but it's still a business. read more

When we arrived, Andrea was very rude and condescending. It seemed like she was very happy to be rude to us and was excited to tell us "no." She demonstrated the opposite of good customer service. I haven't seen anybody take so much pleasure in providing bad customer service. This review is for Vetco vaccination clinic. Very disappointed with their customer service over the phone. Was satisfied with vaccine process and staff however ran into a problem after the fact. Called them because we are moving our dogs to Hawaii with us and found out the proof of vaccine could not be a digital signature had to be signed in ink. So I called Vetco office to see if we could have this done. The response by two different Customer service reps was "we don't do that". No, we'll see what we can do for you. Interesting enough VIP Vet did exactly that for us and we received it in the mail in 3 weeks. The response from the two companies was like night and day. read more

By far the apex of Pet stores especially with managers like Steven and his associates like Michelle running this location. We were on the hunt for a Bearded Dragon for our daughter. Our local petstore has/had a few, however, like everything it does not hurt to check out the competition or even options. My wife and I had about 7 stops on this mission, however, after stopping in this Petco and being greeted by a very knowledgeable, attentative, & friendly staff we found no real reason to even look any further. The savings & accommodations made to help make our decision so much easier than we could have hoped for was worth the one hour trip 3 days later to pick up our daughters new reptilian friend. Great selection, perfect location near shopping stores and plenty of food options well within walking distance. Short detour off i10, with fair amount of parking. While we have been coming to this Petco since it opened, we just recently moved our grooming needs here. I have two pit mixes that get shampoo/nails every four weeks. After struggling to get in with our local groomer we decided to try Petco! I love that you can schedule online and far in advance first off. Super easy and they are great booking multiple pets. We came in for a 2PM appointment and both pups were lovingly cared for by Maeli. She was really great from start to finish, both of our girls looked awesome and smelled great! So it looks like the California brain worm has infected this location in Arizona. Now they're charging 10 cents for bags? Nope. I'm done with them over that. I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars here to care for my pets (parrot, 3 dogs, 3 aquariums) since it opened. If their mission was to cut back on waste generated from their store then consider it "mission accomplished". There will not be anymore $75 bags of dog food and $25 bags of parrot food that were purchased at this location turning up in the garbage at my home. I go to this Petco on a regular basis to get crickets for my leopard geckos. They've always done a great job getting me what I need and suggesting supplements to give my lizards. All of the employees are attentive and ask questions about your pets and really seem to care. I have absolutely no complaints. read more

I've received in a long time. The cleanliness of the store was a disaster. People rush you around. Also apparently there's this new policy that's going to happen nationwide that Petco is charging you $.25 per plastic bag. I fumbled out of the store with all my merchandise. This petco is literally the worst. The store is always a mess. Boxes everywhere- items stuffed on end caps. They are never stocked with food for small animals and it's hit or miss on whether they will have crickets to feed your pets. Animals are reliant on you guys to have what we need to take care of them and you fail every. Time. The PETCO on Houghton has been my source for training, grooming and supplies. I do use chewy.com (owned by Petco) for bulk buying of dog food, treats but the store will match pricing for anything found online that is cheaper. The groomers here that I have had (especially Amanda and Jackie) are really kind to my sometimes crazy and nervous dog. They do a great job as quickly as possible (at my request) so he doesn't have to stay in a crate. We have trained with Pearl who is sweet, kind and patient. We will be returning for part 2. I do wish the store would have invested in a larger and appropriate area for training. They only have a cubby-hole area and the store activity is so distracting. Besides this store being overwhelming understaffed, I like it. Everyone's tried being helpful. I think the one person that been the best who should probably actually be the manager of the store is Sierra. She's helped us get two hamsters for my kids and helped with our new puppy. She's really the only one who knows what she's talking about and if you ever need any questions answered, ask her. The manager is nice but useless. read more

I've taken my Zuchons here a few times for grooming and they always look and smell great after. The ladies who helped me were the nicest and really helped me save a few bucks by getting the best grooming package for the dogs needs. I'm impressed with this store especially the grooming department. The store is very clean in comparison to other petco's and PetSmart, I have visited in the area. I'm always able to find what I need. the prices are very comparable, however sometimes they are slightly higher than what you can find online, but the convenience is nice and worth the extra 50 cents. I'm not sure if do price matchs to other stores or even Amazon, but it is worth inquiring. I have three dogs and Jace is our groomer. The grooming department makes them look fantastic and treats them like family! They are always well groomed. I was able to get all three of them done few days ago and they were finished in a timely manner and they looked fantastic. They all come out with these cute bandanas or bow ties. I'm absolutely in love with the way they look like when they come out spending time with Jace. About six months ago before my dog London passed away, I also worked with Jackie briefly who trimmed my baby's nails. She treated her with respect handled her with care. Overall, I'm just very impressed with the store! The Grooming Department is the shining beacon, it very difficult to find a good groomer and someone that is consistent. I've come here to provide nail trimming services for my dog, and it went great. I haven't brought my dog here to get the complete grooming services as I don't always read the friendliest reviews for Petco (not at this location). I always come here to get my dog's dog food, and treats and sometimes toys. The staff is always very friendly, and it doesn't have a horrible smell like some pet stores have. My Kids were in this petco this afternoon to return a fish, prior to returning the fish my daughter called the store to confirm the return policy of said fish. They told her to bring in the fish no other instructions. Went in to get some fish for my girlfriends daughter, after waiting around the fish take for over 5 minuets I went to the front and ask for assistants with the fish. I was told she would have to call someone over. Over ten minutes later still no one came around to help us. By this time I had to go pick up my girlfriend from work and had to drag a very unhappy 4 year old out of the store without the fish she was promised. I went in there and asked a lady if she had preconceived notions about any animal. She no. We began to discuss snakes. She was very helpful. She explained what she has in her rack at home and suggested items that I knew I needed but had forgotten, I picked up the start of a terrrarium. Then she tells me that they are hving a sale on a particular day and suuggested I do that to get a better price on the snake. She displayed out the snakes for me even handled them. I brought my dog to Petco about a month and a half ago to get groomed. I dropped him off and my husband picked him up and when my dog was brought out to him, the groomer said he had bald spot by his nose and mouth and was very accusatory making my husband feel like we abused our dog. My dog is a yorkie and is always near us so I would have seen if he had a huge bald spot on his face. I waited a couple of weeks to see if maybe he got into something or had an allergic reaction to something and the spot continued to get worse. I took him to the vet where I paid over one hundred dollars for them to tell me that it looked like a burn. I immediately knew that he had been burned or cut by the clippers and the groomer was defensive because she didn't want to get in trouble for injuring my dog. His hair is finally growing back on his face but he still has a lot of discoloration. I know things like this happen but if she would have been honest I wouldn't have been upset, I know things happen. read more

This is the 2nd time I've taken my dog (Poodle) to be groomed at this Petco. The first time she came back looking choppy and uneven. I decided to chalk it up to it being a newly opened store and groomers were new and/or still learning. I decided to give them a second chance almost 2 years later. She wasn't as bad as the first time, but still uneven and had a choppy look to her. I had to trim many areas around her face, ears and feet to even her look up. I've been to this Petco (Rita Ranch) twice recently to buy flightless fruit flies to feed to my frogs (the frogs that I bought at that same location). Twice they have been out of the food for the frogs that I bought for them. The first time they only had a shelf full of dead crickets. The second time the teenager that I asked simply said "that shipment hasn't come in" and walked off. Extremely poor customer service. When they first opened they were well staffed with friendly employees. This rude young girl was the only employee that we saw while we were there. I asked if they had any other suggestions on what to feed the frogs that I bought from them, I got nothing more than shoulder shrugs. Very unhelpful, poorly stocked. I will not be giving any Petco any of my money (or attempting to since they can't seem to keep their products stocked).
