Nostalgic are the times when I used to come here as a kid to see all the fish and small critters available for purchase, and now as an adult, it hasn't changed all that much. There are still sections for aquarium enthusiasts looking to bolster their underwater environments as well as for fur and reptilian baby parents with the goal of enriching or growing their family. In each section, you'll find organized aisles and shelves filled with feed, toys, medications, and other wares for sale. The prices are reasonable compared to online prices and plus, with their free (as well as paid) membership, you'll get rewarded for each purchase, incentivizing you to shop more for your pets. The points you earn are tracked through your account and can be earned and redeemed at any of their stores or online through their website. If you're a frequent buyer, you'll benefit greatly from their rewards program. The main reason for our most recent visit was for their vet services offered through Vetco, specifically for vaccinations. It's best to set an appointment through their website to ensure you'll be seen, although sometimes walk-ins are welcomed but not guaranteed to be serviced. For non-vaccine related vet services, I believe you'll need to make a different kind of appointment and work with the in-house staff during their open hours. If you've never been here, you'll be asked for your pets medical/vaccination history but once you're in the system, they'll track everything your pet receives from their office. The biggest incentive for coming here for vaccinations is the vaccination packages offered at reasonable prices without having to first pay and see a veterinarian. Despite being a mobile clinic that travels to various sites in the Bay Area, they do have experienced and certified vets on staff, available to administer the vaccines and do preliminary examinations. We were very satisfied with the service offered here through Vetco as well as the staff working the store. Everyone was friendly, patient, and helpful in helping us get what we needed and for offering ways for us to save money. It does seem this store brings in a lot of locals and frequent visitors as some patrons seem to be recognized by the staff. I love the neighborly vibe! Overall, despite being a well-established chain, this Petco has not lost its luster nor its commitment to serving their community of pet owners and pets. I'm proud and glad to have this shop in our area and hope that they continue to help foster creation of new memories for generations to come. Brought my 100+ dog for a full groom. He has been regularly groomed everh 2-3 months since he was 7 months old (he will be 7 soon), and has NEVER had an issue. He stands well, he sits, gives his paws over, gets on the table or in the big tub on his own once he knows it's grooming time. All the groomer was able to do was trim his paws and bathe him. She said that he was non-cooperative for the tail and butt trim, that he sat down when she lifted his tail and "whipped back" at her, and that she didn't want to "push him" so she didn't trim anything. He also did NOT get brushed. I get the impression she was afraid of him because of his size. My dog was so stressed post-groom that he hid in the dining table for hours and slept for a full 24 hours which he has only done one other time after he had surgery. I will not be returning. I would rather drive 2 hours to his previous groomer than take him somewhere he hates. read more

well, I think this is an important business to have in our neighborhood. Just know when you go there if there's some really great amazing helpful people and then there's some not so great terrible service clearly they don't seem to wanna be there people. I guess that's true for all businesses, but it makes me question whether this national business is taking care of their employees financially and wellness wise. I'm sure the job is hard but if you love animals, you think that more people would like being and working there. There are people in the grooming area that are just absolutely wonderful that I like a lot and that's why I bring my dog and some cashiers are great, but trying to find help when you need help with an item can be really challenging so that I give this place three stars. read more

Worst Vetco experience I have ever had. Labeled my cat as aggressive on her paperwork after they brought her into a closed room without me and tried to force her out of her carrier to give a vaccination. It is my assessment that Dr. Shauna Gray is not OK to be giving services to felines. and then they charged me 5 bucks for that. read more

2/24/25 As always made an appointment with Katie A to groom Shiloh, my Aussiedoodle. I say as always because I never have to worry about what Shiloh will look like when I pick him up. Katie always does an amazing job on both my dogs. She is #1 professional and #1 excellent groomer. Sometimes I hide down one of the aisles so I can watch her groom so that Shiloh can't see me. I have never had any issues with my dogs nor did my mom with her dog. Communicate exactly what you want done. Example: I tell Katie do not trim his tail or ears and she doesn't. So thankful for Katie, I know my fur babies will always look and smell fantastic! read more

If you want to be a racially profiled and treated like your scum on Earth and homeless when you're in the store, paying for goods as they hold your $10 bill up to the light to check it. Then you should shop here. Never in my life have I had four $10 bills held up to the light and checked and then ran across with a pin while I was stared at over the 30 seconds. I took him to look at my four $10 bills as if I am some homeless scumbag who's trying to pay with some fake $10 bills. Call the store. The manager told me some stupid excuse. They don't have any sign about this. Dumb excuse to explain to people. Why are you being racially profiled to check $10 bills. I don't care what the excuse is or what the reason is. Preface: We've only taken our dog to Petco San Bruno one time before. We had a wonderful experience with Jade there, but it is not close to us. Union city is only 18 minutes away. We had a 10:15am dog grooming appt at this store, Dyer/Union City. We arrived a minute or so early at the check in desk, but no one came out to greet us until 10:19am. Something small to overlook, but as we're waiting I'm looking at the two groomers with two cute dogs being groomed, the dirty check in desk and filthy floors. I understand they're mid session so I don't expect them to do anything but continue their sessions. The store itself is filthy. There's an "Accidents Happen" station, that looks like every accident happened on it and no one cleans it. The aisles have dried liquid or animal pee everywhere that are no longer wet but sticky and black. My husband went to use the bathroom and he said it looked so disgusting like it's never been cleaned. Why is the store so dirty and it's only been open for an hour? A Nikki came out from the back. She was polite and went over the services for the appointment, bath + soothe & repair, and explained that our appointment may take up to 2 hours, no problem. I got a call at 11:50 that my dog would be ready in 10 min, 2 minutes later received a text confirming my dog was ready for pick up. My husband went inside to pay and get her.... When she got back to the truck, her coat did not look brushed and blow dried. She had dandruff and loose hair all over her back and right side, her teeth did not look to be brushed, and her ears weren't clean. We will never come back to this store. If anyone from management reads this, do better. read more

Nikki is our groomer but I have met other staff there and they are so good with my Lucy.. Thank you Nikki for doing such a great job on our pup. This review is for the Vetco Vaccine Clinic that this Petco location provides. I was able to get 3 of my cats vaccinated and dewormed here for the price of what would be 1 cat appointment at a regular Veterinary Hospital. The Veterinary Technicians who run the event were knowledgeable and weren't gimmicky with other patients (advising to wait for vaccines based on weight and age as opposed to just trying to sell people entire packages). I recommend the service to anyone looking to get their pets vaccines done within the Union City/Fremont/Hayward area. Never coming back!! Don't get your dog groomed here!! Petco is the most affordable grooming service we have found in our area for our one year old doodle so we've gotten him groomed here on multiple occasions. Each time it's taken at least 3 hours and we didn't have any problems. Today we picked up our dog after ONLY about 2 hours after dropping him off (which should have been the first sign of trouble) and got him back completely shaven. We have NEVER gotten him back like this. The cut was uneven, way shorter than what we agreed on, and his tail completely gone. He's had matting before so on one occasion they did have to make it short but NOT as short as this time. We agreed that his face would be shorter but him body was not matted so we said to make it as long as possible. I don't know if it's new staff or they just lack patience but for the price, this is simply unacceptable. read more

I have booked appts 1st time worker told me my dog is too young to get a trim and that we should wait til she grows her adult hair. 2nd time they had to reschedule because they were short workers. This review is just for the grooming salon. Brought in our doggie for wash and haircut. I gave our groomer instructions on cut length and what we wanted. Four hours later we returned to pick him up. He still had a few minutes left. Francisco was doing a wonderful job. He was gentle with our pup, and we did our best to stay out of our doggies eyesight so he wouldnt get too excited. Our doggie was so happy and well behaved with him too, thank goodness lol. Francisco takes great care and does excellent work. I would recommend him to anyone with smaller dogs who arent fans of getting their hair cut or nails done. I would give ten stars if I could. read more

Here be ghosts. I walked in with an appointment for a dog bath and went straight to the Grooming station. No one was there and no one was in the windows (looking into the haircut area). I waited about 10 minutes and then went to find anyone who worked there and that took a weirdly long time trekking around aisles. When I found one he simply pointed towards the Grooming station and I said "No I know but no one is there" He went to make a notice call that played for a few minutes and then nothing again. Stood around another 15 min maybe and some Grooming staff came out. Yadda yadda the wash went fine but I didn't end up getting a call so I just showed up a couple hours later (the site says the appointment could take 2-3 hours). The staff said they did call but may have called a different number and that's why I didn't get the notification about my dog being all set to go. I'm the only number on my account and I had no messages. A few of the staff seemed confused about a Pals Reward I had and I had to download the Petco app and extra steps? And then one of the staff simply scanned my reward and it applied so I'm not sure if the app was necessary. At the end of it, I just really wanted to get out of there. read more

On January 17th I took my dog to his bathing appointment at the Union City store at 4 pm, around 6 pm they informed me that something happened to my dog and when he came out he was bleeding from one ear. When I asked, no one told me what had happened and they didn't give me a solution. No one was responsible for what happened. Then the manager sent to say with a worker (since he was not able to go out to talk to me personally). For me to take my dog to the vet's emergency room so that they would help my dog and that I would take the bill and that Petco would pay for it. Until Five days after the incident, a person from Petco communicated with me to ask me about my dogs health after the incident that happened at their store. This person very attentive assisted to my dogs appointment where he got his stitches removed to pay for the veterinarian service. It's acceptable for accidents to happen but until this day, I haven't gotten an answer to what happened to my dog. They also told me there weren't any cameras on site, which I know isn't true. This is a call for them to be more attentive when accidents like this happened. And for them to have a plan when emergencies like this happen, and to give the customers a reason to their accidents because till this day, my son and I felt alone, since this is my son's emotional support dog. I have taken my large Goldendoodle here twice for grooming and Luna has done a FANTASTIC job! It is difficult and takes painstaking hours to groom this breed. Trust me I know and some groomers won't groom this breed because it is so challenging. Petco has always been a go-to store of mine and all my dogs growing up and current. This review is mostly for the staff. Everytime I come in, I'm always greeted. Yesterday, my dog Kruntch ran away from our house as the wind blew our gates down :( He made is way over to union landing and to my knowledge, people got him into petco! The staff cared for my boy, gave him food, and love until animal services came to take my boy to tri city shelter. With out a doubt, I am SOO grateful for the team at petco for looking out for Kruntch. I can't remember who I spoke to on the phone, it was a guy and he was soo nice and gave a description of my dog. While everything was going on, I felt so helpless since I am out of state, but hearing my boy made it to petco, and they treated him so well- I was able to finally breath while my family went over to bail him out of the pound. This location losses one star from me, primarily due to the lack of customer service. I called at 9:01 since it's stated that they open at 9a, looking to schedule a last minute appointment for today or tomorrow. A gentleman kept answering the phone saying "there are 2 customers ahead of you, please call back" and when I finally decided to leave my name and number, an hour goes by and I still never received a call back... Just minutes ago, Corinna (?) from the grooming department answered but asked for my name and number so she can call me back. Before she could finish, I quickly asked if there were any appointments today. She then proceeded to say she doesn't have access to the computer schedule to check -that makes NO SENSE. How do you work for the grooming department but don't have computer access?? I will be looking for a new grooming salon for my two dogs and I will refer this experience to my friends and family. This review is specifically for their employee named Gary. I'll be optimistic that he was just having a hard day but he was rude off the bat once i mentioned that I didn't have a number and would rather pass on signing up "although its free and would save a couple bucks" as he stated. I was polite in declining and he goes to mention later on in the check out process that lets just waste money and how it's good/nice to be rich in a rather rude manner after being rejected the second time of not wanting to sign up for their number. I've worked at similar jobs where we're encouraged to get customers to sign up so i know how it goes but never would I have responded in that same way as GARY did. The worst customer service ever! I politely asked Gary if he could point me to the aisle that would carry pet carpet cleaner. He mistakenly mistook the dog shampoo aisle he was standing in, and said "right here," and walked away. I spent 10 mins looking down the aisles looking for the item, and no where to be found. I want to add that Gary saw me walking around (we caught eyes) and he did not offer to ask if I needed help, and there were 2 other customers in the store with 5 employees. At check out I stood in the line where it said enter and where I was the only person. Gary then pointed to the spot I should be standing, where I still the only person in line. When he rudely finished with the customer before me, he signaled again with his finger that I was next. He was on his phone text through the whole check out. Your local Petco that provides the standard experience that you would expect out of any of the retail locations. Everything is stocked and easily found, the place itself is relatively clean, and a staff member is usually able to answer any question I have, when I have them. I've only had one instance where I wasn't able to find something in store that was advertised online, but besides that, I haven't had any negative experiences. The review above is solely for the retail part of the store. I haven't utilized their grooming, training, or adoption services. There was one time I called in regarding their puppy training classes and was told that the trainer would call me back the next day and they never did. Oh well, I ended up taking my money elsewhere for puppy training instead, so their loss. read more
