So over the weekend, I was outside my front door and a turtle caught my eye in the bushes. Not thinking, I alert my 10 year old son who ofcourse just has to have it as a pet. What have I done...? So, today we decide to stop by Petco to see what kind of turtle this is and its state of health and what not. We meet Jo who I find out later has worked there for 9 years. She was a total sweetheart. She took her time to explain everything to us, rubbed the "female" turtle down to repair a small injury and got me out the door with the basics to start building a new life for "Lenta" Petco was really helpful back in December when I had this horrible idea to get a hampster. They were even nice when I brought the hampster and all the fixins back after 3 escape incidents....full refund no questions asked. read more

Stay far away from this petco. Their grooming services are horrible. I came to get my dog shaved and when I came to pick him up, I stuck him in his carry bag and headed home. I was very upset with the service I received today. After calling the store earlier today to inquire about vaccination services, I was not only assured by a representative that said services would be available, but also advised to arrive 15-30 minutes early. So, I followed the rep's advice and showed up early, only to be turned away at the door as vaccination services were not available this day... Part of being professional means to be responsible for giving accurate information, being accountable, and taking action to correct one's mistakes. This place used to good but now their grooming services have gone to hell, this place is ghetto. I took my dog for a wash and cut and they did a crappy job. The dumb bia cut my dog's tail and then left pieces long in certain places. Also they took forever to finish, he was dropped of at 10am and he wasn't done until 2:30! We are so fortunate to have our sweet pups groomed at Petco. We had a negative experience with a private establishment in Benicia. We stumbled across Petco and after our first experience there, we knew things happen for a reason. Deonne is our pups personal groomer. She loves my babies and does such a wonderful job. I wish you could give 0 stars. The fish at this place are horrible. I overheard an employee giving someone "advice" she said you do not have to do water changes. She believed that if you mix up the gravel the filter will suck up the fishes waste and the water will be "clean". Well if you are not familiar with the nitrogen cycle, that is actually a horrible thing to do. The employees are always giving bad advice. The fish always sick or dying. The fish tanks all have one filter per 9 tanks. They also stopped selling aqueon fish tanks, and now there are tetra fish tanks for sale. Tetra in not a good brand and aqueon is much better. If you need information, or want to buy fish I recommend the Vallejo Aquarium. read more

I had an appointment at 1:00 pm with the grooming dept.She showed up late and in bad mood , Asked me what kind of cut I wanted for my Westie ,(There is only one way to trim the hair of a Westie , I don't think she knew of Westies . She told me dog should be ready by 3/3;30 pm , I had to wait until 8 pm and then to my surprise she had shaved all the hair of my Westie but the tail . 7 hours wait for an horrible job and unfriendly people . I usually just come to this petco location for my dogs food since I've recently moved to Vallejo. For grooming and veterinary visits I usually take my dog to a very well known and loved place in El Sobrante, where even he loves to go, but since I live in Vallejo it is hard to get out to El Sobrante between work and other things so I decided to take my dog to petco in Vallejo today to get a haircut and nail buffing. I spoke to a woman over the phone about their services, knowing that there was an up charge for the nail buffing I asked how much is would be in total which she responded 67$. Now one of the main reasons I stopped taking my dog to petco for these sorts of things is because the service is always half assed and over charged. Today was no exception. Upon arrival I was quoted a 3-4 hour time for Teddy's grooming, it didn't fit in my schedule so I quickly changed my mind but the woman I spoke to assured me she could do it in an hour. So I went for it. When I came to pick teddy up she failed to inform me that she would be charging me another up charge of 10$ for the "zoom groom". I asked her why I wasn't notified about the upcharge when they had offered it and she said that it was on the wall ... so rude and unprofessional . There is sooo much lack of communication. I didn't make a big deal I still paid the 77$ and once I was driving home I realized his nails weren't even buffed and his tail wasn't even trimmed after specifically telling them to shave him completely face, feet, body and tail. This was a total waste of time and money when I could have gotten a better job done at the animal care clinic in El Sobrante for a fraction of the price read more

Today I dropped my dog off for a "Basic Bath" at the grooming section of the Vallejo Petco. My appointment was at 11:00. After signing the documents needed to receive the service and talking to the groomer about how my dog hates baths and gets very anxious around water, I was told it will take a couple hours and I will be called in my cell phone when my dog was all done. My first thought was... "a couple hours for a basic bath? That's a little excessive." I let the groomer know that I will be hanging around the shopping center so I won't be far away at all. 1:00 rolled around and I had finished all my errands so I was sitting in my car in front of Petco waiting for the phone call to tell me my dog was done. I was getting irritated. I mean come on, how long does a "Basic Bath" on a Rottweiler take?!? So I went inside to find my dog to be no where in site and no work being done in the grooming section. I pulled over the store cashier and asked if my dog was finished. Long story short... after 2 hours the groomer shoved my dog in a cage and went to lunch. This was my dog first experience being groomed and I can guarantee that after this traumatic experience he will never go back. Why wasn't I called to pick up my dog before she went to lunch? I was not even able to ask her how he did and what did he actually have done. I will never bring my dog back and if I were you I would find another reputable groomer for your dog. read more

I've made an appointment on Wednesday for 9 o'clock Friday appointment took the day off because it was that important that I get my Maltese Shih Tzu puppy groomed . I showed up at 9 o'clock on the dot just to find out that I was not even in the computer for my appointment they blamed the computer system for the problem they told me they were completely booked that I could leave my puppy there and they would try to fit him in sometime that day meaning my dog would be in the cage all day this was totally unacceptable and unprofessional not happy at all with petco. This review is for the "GROOMING SERVICE" at Petco. Spoke on the phone to this groomer before leaving to come in, I told her I was looking to have my dog groomed today if possible, and I know they except walk-ins. The appointment she was going to set was a little inconvenient for me so I asked her could I do a walk in today. She said yes, if you can be here in the next hour. I said ok, I'm coming from (a neighboring town) but I can make it. I rushed to pack up my dog, get him in the car and get over here just so the lady can take a look at him and say "what questions do you have" I said I was hoping to get him groomed as we discussed on the phone and she said "we can't do it today, but we can answer your questions" then she mentioned a consultation... However, She didn't even look at my dog (what does a consultation include if you aren't looking at the dog?) WHY THE HELL ... Now, would I drive 20 minutes and 2 freeways away to have questions answered? Couldn't that have been answered on the phone? What the heck is the walk in for? Nothing was clearly explained to me at all. NOTHING... This was complete negligence! The customer service at this place is awful and I do not recommend anyone visit the groomers here. read more

I gave them a 1 star cause I couldn't go any lower, typical Vallejo stores, I walk in and the people running the pet shots clinic pull the whole, we don't run it at these hours even though it's not only posted, they're literally there. The one of the personal even said, working more then 10-12 would be over kill on his hours lol. It'd forbid you work more then 2 hours a day sir. We have been going to Petco pretty much ever since they opened up in Vallejo for all of our pets over the years, but we did NOT realize how amazing they were until we came across our very challenging white German Shepard puppy. We have always rescued all of our dogs over the years...most of them would eat anything due to their age & being homeless/without food! But this dog...he is something else! The GM Mercedes is so attentive to all of our needs...my husband has a million questions & she has all the answers!! Renee is like the dog whisperer!! Our puppy was only 11wks old the first time he met her & did EVERYTHING Renee asked him to!! It was so amazing that we now have him going in to his 3rd week of puppy training! Dee is the nutritionist that helped us find the food that our puppy needed...he has allergies that we didn't even know dogs can have...allergic to chicken & grain! We now know all thanks to Dee!! We would buy one type of food & it would help with one thing, but not another...so we would bring the food back & get a full refund!! Did this maybe 2-3 times & now we have him looking & feeling so much better! His coat looks beautiful, his ribs are no longer visible & he is just so happy!! Another thing is there prices...they are not bad at all!! You totally get what you pay for, if your pet doesn't like it, return it!! It's that easy!! Also they honor sale prices on their website...just show them on your phone!! I'm a bargain shopper, but with Petco I don't even have to be!! I also constantly get $5 coupons emailed to me for being a Petco Pals Reward card member!! Awesome!!! Again...We did not realize how awesome Petco as a whole was! ALL of their employees have been nothing but helpful & understanding!! I feel terrible we don't have everyone's names listed, but they know who they are & we remember their faces!! I had a subpar experience here. I was ready to check out and walked to a register where a cashier, named Kelli, just finished ringing up another customer. I asked if she was open because her light was not on and her response was, "I guess." I had a coupon that I got from the mail and I also saw an in-store coupon that I wondered if I could use too. So I asked, "Would I be able to use both of these?" Kelli responded with a condescending tone, "I don't know." When she finished ringing me up, she didn't say "thank you" or "have a good night" she just put my receipt on the counter and started helping the customer after me. I have been taking my grandson's terrier mix to Petco for the past 5 months. Until this week the work had been average, but they have taken a long time to get to Honey. This week I asked for the same cut (a 7). The dog was shaved way too close under her neck (skin showing) and on one of her front legs (yes an uneven cut). There was also a nick on her front leg that they claim she arrived with. I call the manager (lead) he told me to bring the dog in so that he could take a look. I took the dog in this morning and they pretty much blew me off. As I left the manager (lead) told me they would make sure the work was better next time. I told them I would take her someplace else the next time. They have a lot of young people in there who don't understand the meaning of good customer service. read more

I went in today (3/20/16) just to look around, and i saw a chinchilla i wanted to hold, so i asked an employee if he would mind taking it out for me when he got a chance and he got an attitude and brushed me off and continued getting mice for other customers. So i waited for about 5 minutes, watching him get the mice and he was handling them very rough and shoving them in the box because the mice kept jumping out. He was also being rude to other customers who were asking simple questions. I will never go to petco again. Came in to purchase k9 advantage for my pooch just now. After picking up a ton of dog goodies I head over to the register. I hand the k9 advantage card to the cashier for her to pull out of safety. She returns with a 4 dose package instead of the 2 I originally picked up. I made mention of it to her and she responds with "well that's all we got". I came in planning on spending money for 1 for 29.99 not 4 for 69.99. I ask if there's anything else that can be done, perhaps just sell me two like I wanted. wide variety of animal products can be found at this store: toys, animal snacks and food, clothes, fish and reptiles. They carry a large variety of reptiles. Great place to get started if you are trying to learn about certain species. I mainly come here for the fish supplies. They always have a large abundance of feeders, i have never been dissatisfied. Plus, they are the cheapest around. Service is great, Parking is easy.. will continue to visit at least once a week if not more.... read more

I spoke to a Christine on two diffrent days, I was told they would call me back I didnt receive the call until the next day confirming my appt for saturday at 5pm. I started coming here years ago when I got fish and the lady working in the department (still working there) has been wonderful and so helpful all the time. A few days ago I got a puppy ( the owners abandoned her) and went there for food and basic care products. Dee was amazing! Dee is the gal to ask for. My kitty has had severe food allergies, even with Blue Buffalo. Dee suggested we put my cat on 'Basic' Blue Buffalo. All are grain free, however she suspects its the chicken thats the trigger. So we went to a single protein, (fish) food. After her first bite, NO reaction. So Dee knows her stuff!! This is the THIRD time and last time that I've come here and the Advantage shelf and other flea products shelf are 90% bare. One can on five shelves. This isn't three times in a month, it was last spring, last summer and now. And again, for the THIRD time I have to go to PetSmart instead. I will never come here again. Never. I will NEVER visit this location again. Our Husky has an apt at 230. She was suppose to be done by 430/5 (usual) for a Husky. I had to call building at 530 asking about our dog the response I got was there was someone ahead of her, we will call you when she's done. I received a call at 630 starting she was done but still a little wet and she wouldn't let the groomer do her feet or dry her she started getting nippy(voicemail) when I got to building I questioned voicemail left the cashier stated the groomer had left she wasn't sure. When she game me my dog she stated she was a little wet. A LITTLE wet when we put her in truck she left a wet mark her entire coat was wet. When she got home she drank water for a good 10 mins then ate and laid down. Our dog was thirsty, exhausted and hungry she had also missed dinner. There is no excuse to have a dog for 4 hours no water or anything. I am so disgusted by the professionalism of this store. We paid $77 for nothing. On top of that I tried calling the manager this morning 2x every time I got transferred phone just kept ringing. read more
