I've never been to a petco that wasn't understaffed and the staff they have is under trained. They shouldn't sell exotic animals because they don't know how to care for them. On several occasions I've come in to buy 2 crickets and they try to give me more like it's a favor or something. I don't want more than 2---I don't know why they think it's helpful to me to have more. I'd have to kill them and dispose of them. No thanks. I don't even want to put one star.. But one star is for doing the job, and for the poor guy that has to work with the ladies who work in grooming. My dog was fine, but I feel bad for the dogs whose owners left to be groomed. One lady was on the phone arguing with who I am guessing is her boyfriend or husband, then she hangs up the phone and starts complaining about what they were arguing about. Before even helping us at the counter. Another girl was struggling to cut the hair in between a dogs paw and was yelling at the dog. The lady who was just on the phone then goes to help her and yells at the dog too! She started saying that the dog was going to be charged for being difficult, and started blaming the owner for walking in for checking if the dog was ready. The owner can walk in when ever they want, especially if they say the dog is going ready. When you look at the dog it was shaking and obviously very stressed out. He wasn't being difficult he was very scared. If you are going to go towards a dog and yelling at it, it isn't going to react the way you want. All we went in for was for our dog to get her nails trimmed. They did the job, but I did not like what I saw for everything else. So we won't be back. read more

This Petco is close to my house so this is "my Petco". Anyhow they are always very helpful here. They are fully stocked and always have what I'm looking for. The groomer actually was the first person to tell us about having our dogs anal glands expressed. Apparently this is very important so I'm so thankful that they told us this. They also gave us a discount for nail clipping and anal glands that day. Very cool. The thing that I disliked about this Petco is that I took my Mother in Law's dog there to get his shots and there was a super long line and poop and pee all over the floor. They weren't keeping on top of the cleanliness that day and her dog actually ended up getting kennel cough the next day. Not good at all. I'd come here for grooming and shopping needs but probably not for the clinic ever again. Plus, I wouldn't recommend letting your dog run around in there. read more

This is a nice place to go to get fish, in fact almost all pets in Vallejo. It is so good to see live fish in the tanks and that Petco will take precautions if they have any sick fish. This is quite a change from the many dead fish at The Pet Shoppe located on Springs road in town. Petco is a very clean store and seems to be fairly well organized. The staff all strive to give the best quality of service. This is so refreshing as The Pet Shoppe in town is the exact opposite. I can trust Petco and they have a satisfaction guarantee. The Pet Shoppe has an as is guarantee. They may exchange fish at their discretion to about a week. Cats are as is and may be dying. Warning do not get any cats at the Pet Shoppe in town. They appear to get their cats from cat mills or they find dying abandon strays. Also the birds at the Pet Shoppe are bathed in several hours of intense sun. It is a very unhealthy environment at the Pet Shoppe. The people at the Pet Shoppe definitely lack business ethics. It is no surprise that most of Vallejo now goes to Petco. This store is very disorganized and not labeled well at all! I wandered around for 15 mins looking for dog food bowls only to find that they were in the cat section. Huh? The store seems crowded and messy. Not a fun experience. The staff is fairly helpful, however, when you hunt them down (they don't typically offer on their own). And they did an exchange of a malfunctioning bark collar without the packaging with no questions and no hassle. (that got them an extra star). read more

We had one of the best experiences coming to this store. Looking for dog food we asked pete for some help and he took us to the product we were looking for and also compared it to a more natural grain free product that would be better for our pitbull. He was very very knowledgeable about the products and about the dogs needs. Everything he described in the new food versus the old food was exactly what we were experiencing when it came to our pitbulls sensitive skin and allergies. I have been taking my dogs to Pet Co for years to get their baths and grooming. They always do a fabulous job and are very good to my dogs. We have a Siberian Husky which I take in every 6 weeks to have a through bath and de-shedding treatment. That helps a lot and makes a huge difference. We also have 2 Shih Tzu's. The male gets a cut that always looks so cute. My little girl has long hair with a ponytail top knot and looks like a princess to match her attitude. All of the stylists are excellent but we generally have Christine who always takes such good care of my dogs. John is the manager there and he really cares to make a positive environment for the customers they serve. I would highly recommend the store and their grooming services. read more

I have a dog and this review is about their dog products and service... I used their grooming services and my dog came home clean, smelling like an old lady (flowerly and powered), and they even stuck a bow on his colar (I have a 100+lb lab so kudos to them for even attempting this). Its a basic wash - no glands (if you know what I mean and I am not cleaning his glands!) Its a big chain store so they have a lot of items for dogs both small and large, they have a variety of foods and they have reps from different food companies there all the time promoting their food and passing out coupons. Also they have the program where you get a free bag of food after you purchase so many and with a big dog you really appreciate the free bag of food. They also let you bring your pet into the store which is nice and chaotic. They offer puppy classes and during the holidays they have pictures with Santa :) Its Petco you know the Walmart of pet stores - its clean, the staff is hit or miss (hey some really love pets and some just needed a job), its well stocked and they carry alot of stuff but their "high end" choices are limited read more

I should've read the reviews before bring my Morkie here, but I was desperate and my baby looked like a mini wolf. (still no excuse) I was having a bad experience with another place and decide to bring him here for a bath/cut/groom and nail trim. My appointment was at noon and Dora or Donna told me it would be a couple of hours,so I went shopping. I came back around 1:30 and didn't see my puppy so I just walked around the store for a bit. She was still grooming another dog and didn't get to my puppy until 2:45! So she started on my puppy and I could tell immediately she started to get frustrated because he is very hyper. I MEAN VERY! But he doesn't bite and will just wiggle a lot and lick you death. She was having a lot of trouble and I was feeling bad, but if you are a professional you should just get through it right? She then yells out could someone help me with him and this is going to be an extra handling fee? I guess the other girl was the manager and before I could say something she waved her off. So I went out of the room so he wouldn't get distracted by me being there and she suddenly stopped and took him in the back and put him in the cage! Another customer came in and I saw here about to tend to him, when I walked back in. She then she says oh I have to finish this customers nails, because the other girl didn't plus I need a break for him to calm down. I then looked at her and said that he is like that and he isn't going to calm down. Dora then responded well I just need a break from him. WTF! Oh before that I saw her get on the phone for about 10 minutes after putting my puppy into the cage and tending to the other customer. Mind you I didn't leave until 3:00 pm. Now I understand my Morkie is a little wiggle woo, but I didn't appreciate the professionalism from her. I tipped the girls (I tipped her too because she did do something) because they helped her with his grooming, but I tell you that I will not be back and I don't recommend anyone else to take there dog there. I have Bichon frise / Maltese that is in need for clean grooming..Everyone do a good job, you just have to remember the lady groomer that listen and remember how cute you wanted for your Fam pet..Alycia did a good job for not accidentally cut my dog skin.. I showed her a pic of cute pics for my dog breed and she actually remember it, She explains it to you if she can do it or not but yet she will try her best too..I remind her not to skin shaved because my Bichon knows when he is skin naked..I'm very happy to the service..Thank you for having Alycia in this business , She is one of the nicest groomer. I asked to make his face look like teddy bear which I showed frm my IPhone to the Caucasian lady that was in charge for 11:00am grooming for our dog . She is not even wearing any name badge only a vest that has PETCO logo..The lady told us that it's going to be $7 for each dematting (3x charged total of $21) we pick full service groom (no.3 Spa package)..we understand the work done but seeing how she shaved off the tail is so upsetting..I never seen my dog getting shaved his tail and his face is nothing look like teddy bear ..we paid the $92 which according to the groomer she already gave us $5 off (like we don't even felt it's discounted) .. Sadly this petco has gone downhill in the grooming department. I used to bring my dog in for a nail trim all the time, but the last 3 times have been a bad experience. They advertise walk in welcome for a nail cut however the last couple of times they were to busy. The last time I went I got there at 9:15am and was told that even though they were open at 9am I would have to come back because they were going to be open until 10:30??? This is frustrating because I do not live that close and to get all the way down there and be told that they cannot help me is frustrating. Also the last few times they have done a horrible job at cutting my dogs nails, it always looks like they barely touched his nails. I will be going back to my vet to have his nails cut from now on. As I walked into Petco I was already greeted by the cashier. She was friendly and held a conversation with me as I was checking out. While I was browsing in the beginning I had a few questions to ask about the collars for my two dogs and the cashier- she explained and helped me choose which one was the best fit for my dogs. I browsed around for a little bit longer and another gentleman asked if I was finding everything alright as well. Customer service excellent and items are easy to locate as well. I've been here multiple times and I must say it's a hassle to get an appointment. Every time I call to make an appointment, they put me on hold for a very long time, don't answer, or someone else from Petco answers and takes a message for the grooming department. They call back hours later or not at all. I called today at 12:45 and it's now 5:50 with no call back. The person told me there was one person working today and that she was busy and that they would add me to the list of messages. This happens almost every time and the only reason why I'm giving them 3 stars is because Justin always takes care of my dog and gives me a good price for a regular bath. I haven't had any complaints with him. However I'm in the process of looking for a different place to take my dog. read more

Decided to swing by the local animal prison to see if gods creatures are being taking care of. Judging from the yelp pictures I was easily moved into thinking that this place would be different from the rest since everyone in the picture was happy and smiling such as the customers and employees. First off the picture of the front of the store was not even the real one posted on yelp its a total lie, and none of the employees were smiling. Everyone was miserable. The hamsters were all sleeping and the fish section had water on the ground, someone could seriously get hurt if they weren't looking. I've been going to this Petco for about a year now, and I've honestly had such mixed feelings about it. Majority of the workers are very friendly and helpful, others not so much. Employees such as Kelli are very rude and honestly she acts like she hates her job. Whenever I go to the store and I ask Kelli for help, she always has an attitude and is always in a bad mood. She is always sighing whenever I see her talking to customers. I understand being a manager and running a store is hard, but at least act like you like your job!!! My husband and I went shopping for dog toys and supplies for our pond. Hubby asked a guy bagging up crickets if he could bag up fish he said "no", but he would send someone (nobody came) I was picking up dog toys and grabbed 3, I asked the guy at the register if I could set these at the checkstand and he said "that's what carts and hand baskets are for" and proceeded to go get me a basket. I have never been spoken to like that before. I set my stuff down and went to get my husband and told him what he said. My husband said we are leaving and not coming back. On the way out I pointed to the guy that had been so snarky and it was apparently the same guy that had been rude to my husband. I asked the checker if the manager was in and she whispered that it WAS the rude guy. No thanks. Horrible customer service. Good service starts at the top. Was just in Petco Vallejo a minute ago and this checkout person named Aaron asked me if I had everything I wanted and i told him no, that I was looking for ProPlan dog food for sensitive stomachs to which he replied " you're not suppose to be back there". I responded" the girl[meaning the woman clerk] said I could go back there" and showed me her overstock of ProPlan and was correct that there was none of the kind I wanted. I then scanned the room to see if there were other areas of ProPlan but did not see any and left. But this clerk responded "you were back there awhile". I said " what was I going to do put a bag under my shirt(I had a tight fitting tee shirt on) "? And he responded "you're not suppose to be back there" and I repeated myself " she let me go back" followed by "see if I come back here again". Aaron responds "ok". Today I had the worst experience ever with Petco in Vallejo California. I had scheduled a grooming of my dog. At the time of scheduling my appointment I was very clear that the vaccination certificate (in English)was from a Costa Rican vet , but that I also had the label from the vaccine bottle as required to come back into the USA with your pet. I was told no worries we have someone who speaks Spanish (not that you need someone to speak in Spanish), it's all dates, lot numbers and the title of manufacturer. The women who reviewed my documents; first said this is not a Rabbies Vaccine, I showed her the label, which matched the Rabbies Certificate, then she said she doesn't read Spanish not that there was anything other than the vets name in Spanish, plus if you don't read Spanish then why are you saying there is no Rabbies Vaccine? The label clearly says Rabia (ok that's Spanish) so let's google it. Then she tells me we don't accept anything that is hand written.... ok the label is not hand written and Rabies Certificate is not hand written. Listen I get it.... some people attitude about being in the USA and it being an English speaking country..... but come on the virus is in Latin and it's the same in any country. It was clear to me that I was dealing with someone who either woke up in a bad mood, or just doesn't like Spanish speaking people/documents. She then tells me I needed to have it translated...... so does this mean I can go home and type it out in English not that anyone could not figure it out on their own..... with just a little common sense or I am sorry maybe we can Google the label and see what comes up..... I invite anyone to do this based on the labels (Biocan LR) if you don't want to I included a picture of what it is from their website which is in English and a European Company. NOPE she was not having it, not going to look up anything and not going to read the labels. Despite all I did in advance I was treated like shit..... even the customer behind me was shocked by this. Sooooo I guess this is one of several things..... don't go there and let them know you speak Spanish, or your documents from another country won't work despite it being required by the USDA and acceptable to our government or it's perfectly ok for someone in a bad mood to just be rude and awful....... I plan on calling their corporate office to discuss. This could have been easily fixed and resolved in 3 minutes but her attitude was NO WAY is she going to look anything up. read more

How can I give zero stars to this place? Absolutely saddening! I Went toy shopping for my dog and ended up in front of the grooming area only to see and hear from the other side of the glass that this woman with a red hair braid yelling at a small gray Shih Tzu not once,twice,three or four times it was many times with aggression, it seemed like the puppy was in distress and instead of being considerate and trying to calm the puppy down she would grab on to him (seemed but could not confirm how hard she was grabbing on to it) she scream to make him stop so he would freak out more! I even saw her put on her yellow headphones not sure if it was to block the barking and whining but by doing so how will she be able to hear if she ends up hurting the pup, I stuck around for about 5 mins but i had to get out of there since I couldn't believe this unacceptable behavior! I have brought my dog here in the past for grooming, he is a sweet little shih tzu who suffers from separation anxiety, the more I take him to get a haircut the harder it is for him to want to go back or stay. If he is being treated this way... I don't blame him for freaking out when he is dropped off. I cannot see my self coming back to this store. Most dog owners love their dogs more than anyone could imagine, and if your employees are treating them this way it's disturbing. Petco I hope you check the cameras more often and train your employees to better with our furry babies, you have lost a valuable customer. read more

They almost always have what I need. I like I can take my dog for a vet check up on Sundays, and Mercedes, my groomer treats my dog like the prince he thinks he is. Prices are a bit high in some cases. Its also a great place to take my dog for a walk on bad weather days. read more

My dog was fine before I brought him to get groomed here. After I picked him up he seemed sad. I inspected him a bit to find that they had irritated part of his leg. It took him several days before he was fine again. I now take my pets to the Petco in Fairfield and I have never had any issues. read more

So I have had two experiences with the groomers at this Petco. The first time, I had called to schedule a last minute appointment for my Maltipoo puppy. The woman I spoke to was WONDERFUL. Apparently, they require a few shots prior to coming in. Fortunately, the groomer suggested some local veterinarians that were reasonably priced and said once I had taken care of the shots I can bring my pup in any time that day. After taking care of the shots, I dropped my dog off and a few hours later, he came out looking as cute as ever for only $45! My second experience with them was not so fantastic. I had scheduled an appointment for a puppy cut for my Maltipoo. I was going to be out of town that weekend and my parents were taking care of him so I was very specific to the groomers what it was that I wanted. They had shaved my Maltipoo COMPLETELY from head to toe. His hair wasn't even even all the way around. The only thing left long was his tail. Not only was the cut completely different from what I had requested but they had charged us $63! This leaves me skeptical as to whether or not I want to go back. I would give this place 5 stars just for the grooming experience. The groomers were happy to help and even though I didn't have my shepherd's rabies paperwork, they called to verify that they were up to date with the county. It was super awesome. The problem comes when I go into the store. Most of the prices are not competitive but that's not the primary problem. It's that my other Is a pit-bull. I understand that they have a bad reputation so I keep him under a tight leash as a courtesy to the other customers. If my dog was a douche-y dog, I would understand if I was asked to leave. He is just upset that nobody wants to pet him. Petco doesn't do that, though. Instead they passively look the other way as a retriever snaps at every passing dog, without batting an eye. Everyone is profoundly concerned about my dog whining because they are practically racially profiling my dog. One employee was nice enough to great my dog, the groomers were super, but that was it. Such low ratings, add my one star to the group census! So the place is old, run down and very disorganized. Their assortment of pet needs are hardly eye catching. Their prices are marked up but the quality is all low grade. From my own personal experience the staff that they have on hand are very immature, inexperienced and rude. So I stopped by with my daughter in search for feeder fish for our puffer at home. Their aquatic department was cramped, filthy and unattended. After waiting over 10 minutes, some young guy in a Petco polo came over and asked how he could help us. I looked at the feeders they had on hand and they weren't the ones I was looking for. The ones they had were cramped in a filthy, diseased tank with ton of dead bodies floating at the top and bottom. I then asked what kind of Cichlid food they had and he ran around aimlessly looking for anything that had CICHLID on the front. After a good 2 minutes of looking, he came back with Tetra food. No.. not happening homie, there's a significant difference in Tetra food and Cichlid food. (For people who aren't into fish lingo.. imagine going to steak restaurant, ordering steak but having the waiter bring out a grilled hamburger patty. yeah.. ) Moving right along, I was looking at the fish they had on hand and it was just sad. Their assortments were again very limited to handful of Tetras and a few salt water fish on the other side of the store. All of this fish were small, skinny and way over priced. Then as we were leaving my daughter spotted a Chinchilla. I asked the gentleman if they made good pets for younger children and his response was, "Oh absolutely.. ! They're incredibly affectionate, love to cuddle and require very little grooming and attention. They're great for younger children. They never bit or scratch." Interested I went home to google more on Chinchillas and found that everything the guy had mentioned was practically the opposite of what true care Chinchillas really need.
