Getting fish for my son's class
    Gabrielle H.

Delonte and Wes were very helpful. However, i really wanted to give this petco location 1 star due to the lack of direction on where to park. It was so aggravating, but Wes was so helpful that I can't give 1 star. I appreciate the customer service I received from these Wes and Delonte. They went out of their way to ensure we were well taken care of. Another visit before I finished my review... Jaron and Mario helped me today. They were encouraging about my fish tank and about getting a puppy in the future. Always a great experience at this location. Thanks!

4 stars because the price of everything has increased! Be aware, that the price for grooming online/app is Totally different that from what the store actually charges. I was told, the individual location has nothing to do with what prices the site owner puts up. Confirm prices when you call! Also, for some reason - people aren't able to scheduled appointments online or using the app so give them a call to schedule. They are aware. And this issue effects all Petco locations. Anyway, as of 3/15/2022 $58 for Bath with Haircut Long Hair SM and extra $7 for Shave, Brushout, Scissor SM and $4.99 for Materials Fee A total of $70 for my 10 pound dog. K'vina was totally awesome in finishing the grooming of my dog as her ears and tail were left very scruffy. Make sure you tell the groomer all of what you done with the dog.. By the time I picked my dog out, the initial groomer had left for the day.

We're not pet owners, but stopped in to but a gift for our neighbor's dog. The space is big with everything you'd want from toys to biscuits to anything! They have a pet grooming station, a dog biscuit bar and sell small pets like fish, hamsters, birds and snakes!

Lots of cool fish to choose from.

We visited this Petco today. They have a good amount of floor space. The staff folks were helpful, especially the fellow who helps customers select fish from their tanks. I was looking for a specific type of cat food, and while they had it in stock, I only found four cans of the kind I wanted. My son thought this was a newer location for this store. There is an attached parking garage and the first 90 minutes are free for retail shoppers.

Bella's ready to takeover the city now.

Conveniently located in Ivy City-- you can't miss it! I lived in the neighborhood for two years now and this is literally my go to for all my pets needs. Animal accessories && raincoats, cool dog chew toys, kitten activities, etc. My dog, Bella Blonde, had her first nail trimming by K. I did not even have to make an appointment weeks in advance and was able to walk-in and be accommodated with great energy and excitement. Bella felt right at home with K. (The girl talk and doggie hugs helped Bella feel at ease immediately.) Super impressed with the grooming team. I even decided to get a GOLD PAW POLISH for Bella at the very end! So cute! Thank you Petco Ivy City

This is a brand new Petco that opened about two months or so ago in the Hecht building complex. I like it because it is big (for a location in the city), clean, and not crowded (yet!). It's located in the same building as the Mom's Organic Supermarket. They have a parking garage located above the store (currently free, not sure how long that will last) and some very limited street parking on the Mom's side of the building. Park in the corner located on the side where the gates are (above the Petco) on any floor and you can take the elevator straight to the store. Staff is friendly without being overbearing. They have a lot of stuff in this store, the benefits of a larger location so they don't run out of things as fast as some of the smaller locations in the city do.

    She doesn't deserve this!

EDITED TO ADD: My husband informed me that they cut our dogs whiskers off today, too. Entirely. Off. It hurts me to write this review because the people are so genuinely warm and kind and caring at the Ivy City Petco location. But the grooming is...I can't even think of the right adjective right now so let me tell you this: my friend saw my dog after her appointment today and said: "Who cut her hair, Stevie Wonder?!" She was not wrong. The jagged unevenness of this haircut cannot be overstated. The way my dog's facial hair looks like stair steps climbing up her jaw is simply and unbelievably awful. Especially because (having had a bad experience with a haircut here in the past) I specifically and repeatedly said: "I don't want my dog to get a face cut because we are keeping her body hair long for winter so the hair on her face needs to be a similar length in order to blend. (Y'all, I even ran my hand over the dog's face and neck to demonstrate her hair blennnnnnnding.) Please, I said: just cut the hair out of her eyes. I want an eye scoop *only*. Leave the rest of her face just the way it is. I know it's called a face, feet and fanny cut but please do an EYE, feet and fanny cut on Lacey." She said ok. I thought we were okay. We were not okay. To recap: 1. You weren't supposed to cut my dog's face *at all*, in the very first place. Which was made abundantly clear. And then 2. You're gonna cut it terribly?! Like, abysmally, shockingly badly? What in the entire world?! Making matters worse, we were charged for a bath and the dog still stinks. Idk who can wash, dry and cut a dog in 34 minutes so when the call came that she was done I already suspected there was a problem. But this? I was not prepared for this. Now, the poor dog is gonna have to get one of my husband's home bathing specials tonight, on top of having jacked up hair! Don't do this to your dog. Run farrrrr away.

I felt the service was professional and a genuine love for dogs. When I returned to pickup Hercules from getting his wash, haircut, ear cleaning & nails clip. I noticed how polite and patient the groomers & cashiers were. A few customers came in & all respected staying 6ft distance. Which I truly appreciated. Jade gave Hercules an awesome haircut! Hercules took to her very well. He smelled fresh& clean! I will certainly be bringing Hercules back.

The poor sweet dog in question

Unfortunately another disaster Petco grooming experience. We brought our dog in for a trim on her stomach hair and left with an almost completely bald dog from neck to butt. There was no response from the team there about how this happened and why they did not do as they were told. In addition, her nails were not even cut. It seems their staff is not capable of grooming they offer. I would stay far far away from the grooming team there after yet another botch.

Petco grooming! They were able to get rid of the excess double coat with ease!

Excellent service all around! I called a few days ago and was given a 9am Sat. appt for my dog to get groomed. Check-in was easy, and the grooming tech was kind, knowledgeable, and great with my dog. Pickup in less than 2 hrs, and my dog looked great! Highly recommend!

While on the phone, I asked for rates, since they are not listed on the site. She informed me that she really couldn't give me an estimate even, and that only after seeing my dog's coat would she be able to offer a price. She informed that she mainly does smaller dogs, and I verified if she was wanting/willing to do my larger doodle (70lbs). She said she would. Here's my mistake -- I should have pressed further for a price, even a ballpark estimate, but I didn't. More on that in a second... We drove quite a ways out of our way to Cassandra's home near Olney, MD. She greeted us outside of her house where we talked for a few minutes before I handed off my dog in the driveway. Since we're in COVID times, I did not expect to go into her house or see where she grooms or have extensive conversation, and that was fine. I killed some time in the area and after two-ish hours, Cassandra called me to come pick up my doggo. She said she would be emailing me an invoice that I could pay prior to pickup. I open up my email and I see a bill for $220. TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY dollars. Wow! I was floored. We have never paid that much for a grooming ever, and we typically get our pup groomed in DC proper or downtown Silver Spring. Here, we drove out to rural MD, where she grooms from her home, so no overhead even, and the price is double that than what we typically pay. Also to mention, there was a $10 COVID cleaning fee included. I never stepped foot into her house, we wore masks in the driveway where I handed off my dog -- what's to clean? My dog? I assume she was getting a bath either way. Anywho, I didn't pay the bill right away, as I wanted to ask her about why the rate was so high in person. When I arrived, my dog was sheared from head to toe. She's a doodle but she looked like a weird greyhound. Ears, snout, everything, clipped to the skin with no styling to be seen. She explained that our dog's fur was matted and that this was the only answer. So, yes, our dog definitely had some matting in various spots but we brush her regularly and she was groomed 12 weeks prior, so we're not talking months and months of overgrown fur. Even if she had to take her fur down really close, she still could have styled her head/ears/face to have at least some semblance of the doodle cut... those areas were not matted at all. So not only was this the highest rate we have ever been asked to pay, it was also the worst groom my dog had ever received. When I picked up my dog, I nicely asked why the rate was so high, and explained that we typically pay about half that in DC. Cassandra told me that was standard rate. I disagreed and told her that we really have never paid close to that amount in 3 years. She shrugged. It was a quick and friendly exchange, and I was hoping that by giving her the opportunity to lower the rate, that she might. She didn't. I paid it and we left. We won't be going back. I don't know why I'm leaving two starts as opposed to one. One just seems so harsh. But tbh it was a one start experience. My strong advice: get a rate upfront.

At first I was encouraged, they had a cat groomer that was very communicative and prices were reasonable. I would bring my previous cat for grooming but it was always difficult to schedule an appointment because they rarely answer the phone. On one occasion, I thought, let me go physically to the office to make the appointment. The door was open and no one was in the shop. The next day when I came again to make the appointment, the receptionist laughed and said they had someone new and that person didn't know how to lock up. Unfortunately my previous cat died and I got a new cat in late 2022. I explained the death to the receptionist when I booked the new cat for grooming. When I got to the appointment, she was calling the new cat the dead cats name--I had to explain to her again. Two additional times, when I was booking grooming, I had to tell the receptionist that the previous cat was dead. It was the same person but apparently cannot or will not update their records? Most recently booked grooming in November 2025. My cat gets the same thing every time and that was confirmed on the phone with the receptionist. When I arrived, the person at the front desk asked what the cat was getting done, and I answered confused, "she gets the same thing every time, do you not have the card?" Then she found the card, like "oh okay". Hours later, my mother called me to tell me she had a missed call from the groomers. I called several times, no one picked up. Now I'm concerned. If you don't pick up the phone when my cat is in your care, that's a huge problem. I drove to the shop. The receptionist is laughing with a client and a dog. Then I'm thinking, "is this why they're not picking up the phone". I ask the receptionist "is my cat ready" she responds, "good question" as if it's a joke?! She walks back and says, "I just got here". That's so unprofessional and irresponsible. When I talk to the cat groomer, I explained my concerns and that I have been a customer for years. He says they don't have a receptionist in the morning--which I did not know. Then he refuses to apologize for the gross misconduct. I got an email recently where they said they would be raising their prices--with this poor customer service and management they should not!

I was told it would be 4 hours. 4 hours is a long time. I got there to pick her up in 4 hours. He hadn't even started cutting her and he told me he needed another 45 minutes which turned into an hour. I wish I had taken my glasses with me so that I could have seen how uneven she was cut. I was already not happy that he cut her short. I paid & tipped (only as a courtesy) for the worst cut my dog has ever had. All her wavy hair was cut off. It's Winter. He gave her a Summer cut. To make it even worst she's cut uneven and has a gash on the back of her left leg. How do you cut a dog so short and get it uneven behooves me. Her face and head are lopsided. One ear is cut at an angle while the other is cut straight across. The fur on one is longer than the other. Tail tip fur cut off the rest untouched. What I took to Petsmart was a cute teddy bear looking dog with wavy hair. What I got back......was a cute dog with barely any fur and a really bad uneven hair cut. The rush job he did sucks. Hell he needs to pay me because I have to go behind him to try to fix the mess. Needless to say, Petsmart is #2 on my oh hell no grooming. Petsmart dog cuts are getting just as bad as Petco. They both now give half ass rushed cuts with very little attention to detail. I didn't want to leave her in cage waiting. That's the good thing about having groomer in the building. Many groomers elsewhere same thing happens and you don't have that flexibility. Although I usually call first to make sure they are not running late. The staff was courteous. They started the grooming at 4:45 and it was over by 6:30. The place I had taken her in Virginia didn't do such a great job and the ears were not plucked so she was in dire need of some real grooming. When I arrived to pick her up she was super happy and alert. She looked and smelled wonderful. And even got a bow. It didn't last long on her hair but she looked adorable. I have a shin tzu and the grooming cost $70 before tip. Just to give you an idea. However, it was well worth it. Suggested you email them in advance because they do fill up quickly. When I brought her home and inspected their work the ears were clean and no hair in there. The pads of the feet were trimmed nicely and the size of the cut I think she said was 5 was excellent. Just right for my pup. I will definitely use them again. Highly recommend upscale grooming!!!
