Come here when I'm in need of some supplies for our dog, and when she needs a grooming. Really like that you can pick up items that you bought online in store. The cashiers here are ok, but dont seem to enjoy this duty. But the staff in general is nice. First time we took our adopted dog to this store and she marked a spot. I felt so bad, but one of the girls was like, "oh no problem, it happens all the time." What great service! And our dog always gets amazing care when we get Tyler or Grace in the grooming area. Small selection and immediately noticed 4 dead Bettas on the spot and a dying one. Asked an employee about the conditions, just giving away the dying Betta and was told "they can't do that". Asked what they where going to do with it and advised is would be taken to the back and it would go through whatever it's going through (most likely flushed). Advised if that was logical rather than giving it to someone who can possibly give it a second chance. And he stuck to his response. I've spent good money here and did not want to use that as an debate point but to not want to give away a possible 1-2 dollar wholesale "item" over valuing its life was very disappointing. I want to give a shout out to the manager Amber!! She is legitimately amazing! Super knowledgeable about so many species of animals, very sweet and personable, and took the time out to make me feel like a valued customer. I had wanted to sign my puppy up for training classes a while now and inquired about it to Amber. She spent almost an hour explaining everything in detail from puppy to adult classes and AKC certification testing. She even took me into the training room to look around and see what skills my dog has. In the end, I signed up for the adult dog package since my pup is a little bit more advanced according to her. This Petco is my favorite place to buy chews for dogs since they have a wide selection and carry things others don't. When Vanessa worked in the grooming salon, it was great. She's gone, and so is any semblance of customer service. I had an appointment scheduled to have my dog groomed this morning at 8:30AM. I showed up around 8:25. Natalie was sweeping the floor and doing other busy work, but apparently that was more important than helping customers or even acknowledging them. After about 5 minutes, she finally came to the counter because it was clear I wasn't going to leave. Natalie told me the server was down, so she wasn't checking in dogs or grooming them. She said her manager was printing the forms. I waited a few more minutes. Then she said her manager was going over to UPS to print them. At about a quarter to 9, it became clear they weren't going to do anything today. I left and tried to contact Customer Service. Their online chat and the phone number both go to a 3rd rate call center in the Philippines. None of the people I reached could understand English and I don't speak Tagalog. On the 5th call, someone finally agreed to transfer me to a U.S. based CSR. His response was "I'll email the store manager. They should get back to you in 24 - 48 hours. If I see that they haven't in a couple days, I'll escalate it to the district manager." So to sum it up, the grooming salon can't be bothered to groom dogs, and customer service is a myth to the entire company. Then again, looking at the canned responses to all the negative reviews of this store, it should be obvious they don't care about customer service. I see why Vanessa chose not to come back after she left on maternity leave. read more

Grooming department. Scheduled an appointment for our dog to get groomed over a week ago. We received a call the morning of the appointment that the groomer couldn't do the appointment and that they will need to reschedule. It's not the fact that the groomer couldn't do it, it's the fact that they don't have a system in place where they could accommodate us in the event that a groomer can't make an appointment. And now all the other groomers around the area don't have availability for weeks, which is always the case. Given that my dogs need 5 star luxury food all of a sudden, I've found myself visiting Petco every week. At 1st I hated this location..I'm much more of a Petsmart type person but they don't carry the special kibble that I feed the pups so I've had to adapt. Thankfully the staff here is friendly albeit really busy most of the time. My favorite thing is their return policy (not that I'm one of those serial returners because that would be annoying). I got a new puppy girl recently and she boycotted her crate along with the $15 clip on water bowl that I bought, bringing me to a grand total of just under $200. Needless to say, I wanted my money back when she decided she wasn't going to use it. The staff asked me no questions and I had no issues returning the items. They even helped me get it in and out of my car each time. They also seem to have a rewards program that is much better that Petsmart's so kudos to that. read more

But on occasion I have been here to purchase dog food, a dog crate for our little dog and also to visit the Vetco clinic (low cost pet clinic). The Vetco clinic is here every other Saturday in the mornings to the afternoons by the way. Anyways, this Petco location is definitely on the smaller side but still has the essentials you are looking for. I've never had a bad employee encounter (also have never had an employee go that extra mile for me here as well, but I'm okay with that). This Petco is located in the same plaza as Fresh & Easy, Panera Bread & Alfred Angelo (it is actually right across from Alfred Angelo). Although the parking lot is a fairly large size, parking can definitely be a challenge because of all the number of businesses in here with other customers wanting to shop at them. Make sure you sign up for their loyalty rewards program to take advantage of the additional discounts/ coupons. read more

As soon as I got in for our appointment the lady had attitude would I even give eye contact to me and my husband and right away said they wouldn't be able to do him because of notes on file for him I have Bff e never heard on notes other locations do him fine. This is an update to my review from last year about the West Covina Petco store. I stopped by to pick up a couple of doggie toys. While I was browsing without any particular item in mind, Gilbert stopped by to recommend a Kong branded toy and explained how you can hide a snack on the inside. Additionally, he explained that if you were to freeze the toy with the snack inside, it can actually pique the dog's interest over an extended period of time as it melts and thereby keep your pet occupied from anxiety-caused behavioral problems. I found this input to be extremely helpful and wanted to note how the associates at this store really do have an interest in pets and put themselves in your shoes. This store may not be one of their full size retail locations, but the customer service has been rock solid consistent for the past two years. read more

This was literally the worst grooming experience of my life. The staff was completely rude and thoroughly unprofessional. And the facility is completely disgusting. There was hair and nail clippings all over the floor. And their manager, ANDREW, was completely prejudiced. racist and sexist towards African Women. And the lady who took charge of my dog literally started insulting him and calling him rude names. and they literally didn't even complete the appointment. they literally called me and said they didn't feel like clipping his nails, WHEN I LITERALLY PAID TO HAVE THEM CLIP HIS NAILS. the facility is filthy. When I left this salon, I was so upset it took everything in me not to scream and cuss at the rude grooming lady that was working at the time. According to my receipt, her name was Bridget. I called the day before, and they said I could just walk in for a nail trim and I would not need to wait. So I get there, at 5:15pm, and she tells me that her bather just left, so it was just her, and I would have to wait like 5 mins. I told her I was in a really big hurry, and wanted to know if she was sure it would be only 5 mins, because otherwise I would go to Panera first to make the best use of my time. She said she had another dog after the one she was working on, so basically implying that if I wasn't there when she finished the dog she was grooming... she would start on the other dog and I would be screwed. So I took my dog for a walk around, came back... she's still not done. It's been at least 5 mins. So I stand there holding my dog for another like 10 mins. There is NOWHERE to sit, which is so stupid... especially if they are going to be making people wait. I had been on my feet all day at work, the last thing I wanted to do was stand. So when she finishes I try to hand her my dog.. and she won't take her... she said the dog has to walk in. My dog has really bad back legs, and she is terrified of linoleum AND hates getting her nails cut. She's not going to "walk in".. so I get upset because this woman cannot clearly communicate with me what she expects me to do or what the reasoning is for this nonsense. Note I had been here before and this was a new rule. So finally she says the dog needs to walk on camera, and she opens the little door can I set my dog down so they can see her "walk" on camera" before she picks her up off the floor. So retarded. So I go to pay, and this line takes forever. They have one cashier working at the front. The line took so long, she was done cutting my dogs nails before I had a chance to pay. I try to talk to the manager about this incredibly rude woman.... and when I tell him I had to wait 15 mins, when she said 5.... he says "that doesn't sound like a long time".... I got so angry. Clearly this moron did not understand my POINT.. which was I was told I would not have to wait, and that I did not need to make an appointment... and I told her I could go to Panera first if it helped, but if I had I wouldn't have been able to get her nails cut at all. I just told him I would call corporate. Which now I don't think I am going to do, I feel like this review is enough at this point. And to kick it at all off... I get my dog... and her nails are barely cut. Some of them are still long! I specifically told her to cut them as short as possible, because my dog has really long quicks, so you have to cut them down as close as possible otherwise they are still too long. I was too pissed and done with this place to mention it, I just stormed out. Without a doubt I will NEVER be back to this grooming salon. I will be going to Petsmart, which is where I normally go. Cheaper, faster, and the customer service is a million times better. NOTE: In regards to the positive reviews left in 2010... there use to be a couple young girls here before that were AMAZING with animals and incredibly sweet. Lucky for me, my three pups had not gotten their nails trimmed in years... so Antonio G's avatar was only a daily reminder of this! To be honest... my dogs are kind of assholes... So I wasn't looking forward to any interaction with strangers who were about to mess with their nails. Upon arriving I was told to bring proof of vaccination and it would be $10 for each dog. No problemo, I figured the price isn't THAT steep since one of my dogs will more than likely end up biting one of the workers. I gotta say... I have never seen my dogs so calm with strangers. They knew exactly how to work around them. I was in and out of there in about 20 minutes. One of the workers was all over the place spoiling them with hugs and smooches. From my time spent there you could see all the animals were carefully taken care of. After watching the workers with the animals, the price was no longer an issue. I wouldn't mind leaving my dog here for grooming. I've been to other places were dogs are often neglected. This will definitely become my regular grooming salon. *Come on Tuesdays and they only charge $7. read more

Anyhow, this review is based on the W Covina Petco, I go there because it's close by & they carry Merrick dog food. So I head over one night, I walk in & the older guy working the register w/the salt & pepper spikey hair (who is at the time ringing up another customer) says "Hello", I say hello as I'm walking toward an aisle, then he says "you know what you're looking for, because we're closing up". I was shocked because when I exited my car I looked at the time & it was 8:44pm, & they close at 9pm. You would have thought I walked in at 8:59 pm & 10 seconds. I thought that was VERY RUDE of him, & I said yeah I do, what did he expect me to say no I don't know what I'm looking for so I'll come back tomorrow, yeah right. BEST PETCO EVER! Crystal is the greatest! I had purchased a fish at Walmart, being told that goldfish were the most low maintenance fish. Which, going to Wal-Mart was a mistake in general. Especially when their employee (at Wal-Mart) said I was Darla from Nemo. I had done some research on goldfish maintenance, and as a first time fish owner; I was wary, because I did not want to kill my little fishy. That's where Crsytal, pulled a Mr. Miyagi and informed me about gold fish, and fish care. Little did I know that even though I was doing my best to take care of my little fish, he still wasn't in the best living conditions. Thanks to her, Tupac will now be happy in his thugged out filtered tank. All in all, this pet co has an AMAZING staff and establishment. It's clean, an organized, and their staff if very well informed and kind. I recommend everyone to go there! This place is dark and gloomy. I have not had any pleasant experiences here, and after my last experience I have decided to not shop here at all. I am glad to have a forum to spread the word on just how bad this store is. The products here look old and tattered. I came here to purchase food for my cat that is only available at pet food stores (Neutro Max). I purchased the bad and took it home. Before I opened the bag, I received an email from the manufacturer stating there was a recall due to some contamination. It was not a life or death recall, just more of a quality issue with the potential to effect the health of some pets. I brought the bag back to the store with a copy of the recall. The person I approached said they were aware of the recall and had removed all the questionable items from the store. They provided me the opportunity to exchange my bag for an un-recalled bag. When I looked, the items on the shelves were under the recall - this means they had not been removed. I went back up to the counter to a different person at the cash register. I brought the issue up to the person, who seemed to act annoyed and un-apologetic. They told me they knew there were recalled items on the shelves and had no plans to remedy the situation. I was appaled. This is their JOB! Proceeds from our sales pay their salary and they are responsible for the items on the shelves that are used to care for and sustain our little loved ones. So, I decided to not contribute to this person's salary and to the sustainability of this store. I took my item to a different store, who seemed to care more. Now I shop at PetSmart and have never had a problem. read more

On Saturday I decided to bring my puppy over to my bf's house so he could place with his dogs. My little Zorro got so dirty from running around in the dirt/grass and the slobber from my bf's dogs that I had to get his groomed before I bring him back home. I brought Zorro in about 2:30 in the afternoon. The guy there informed me that they were all booked up for the day and that i should make an appointment for tomorrow. I was disappointed and i guess he noticed because he said that he can take care of Zorro if he's small and has his vaccination papers. Lucky me, Zorro is only 20 pounds and I carry his Vetco card with me. So the nice fellow at the desk was able to fit my doggie in his busy schedule. They even called me when Zorro was all cleaned and ready. When i picked him up, the guy even told me that he accidentally cut Zorro's nails a little too deep. He has black nails so it's hard to see. I completely understand, and he wouldn't be the first person to do that. He just told me he couldn't cut them any shorter which i completely understand. If Zorro was an outside dog, I'd bring him here more often to get groomed :] read more
