I visited this Petco recently and was absolutely horrified by what I saw in the fish section. There were multiple dead fish sitting in cups on the shelves, bettas with their tails torn off or badly bitten, and water so dark or cloudy you couldn't even see the fish inside. These animals were clearly suffering and had been neglected for some time. I brought one of the suffering fish to the manager, explained what I had found, and asked if I could surrender the fish into my care so it wouldn't have to endure more. Instead of being met with concern or even basic professionalism, the manager seemed annoyed that I had interrupted him. He claimed he had "checked them this morning," which was clearly not true given the condition of the fish I showed him. He put the fish back on the shelf -- to still be sold. I'm honestly shaken by the lack of compassion and the complete disregard for these animals' welfare. I expected a pet store to have basic standards of care, and I certainly didn't expect to be treated poorly for trying to do the right thing. If you care about animals, please think twice before shopping here. I won't be returning. read more

Why arent there zero star options !?! Be very careful with coming here. There was a dog screaming in the back, and I simply asked why is the dog screaming, and they were really offended at the question. Then I asked if I can stay to watch them room my dog, and they turned the story around saying I was going to accuse them of abuse. That's a very odd conclusion, very drastic for a simple question as to why a dog is wailing in the back. I made the appointment 2 weeks ago and she, nor anyone from the grooming department, bothered to call me within the two weeks to let me know???? I am sure they check how many appointments they have 2-3 weeks ahead of time. Their groomers would need to know how their schedule would look like and the grooming manager as well. Steph waited till I brought my dog inside the store to tell me that my dog has been flagged???? Btw, I called first to confirm if they're open because their store is not open till 10am (Sunday's) Esther confirmed that grooming is open already and she even asked my dogs name. Didn't tell me or put me on hold to call Steph to tell me that they will refuse Leila anyways. Steph waited till I brought my scared anxious dog inside their store. I brought my dog to Petco on March 21 at 12 for my dog's appointment... another customer came in, after I did... and said she was there for the same appointment at noon with Amanda. Both me and the other customer were upset but I showed the groomer at the counter, the confirmation email I received dated Feb 24 ( almost a month scheduled before my dog's appointment ) I will attach it here. The groomer at the counter, didn't believe me till I showed the email. Why? Maybe because I'm Asian and the other customer was Caucasian? I don't know. It was just so disappointing to book an appointment here. Among other customer service related complaints on the same day... I just felt compelled to call Petco's customer service number. Juan, the store manager, called me a few weeks later and apologized to me. He checked the calendar and he said someone changed my dogs appointment for another groomer instead of Amanda. SMH I didn't write a negative review here on Yelp. I wanted to give Petco another chance ... Hell. Nooo... Today... Steph, the grooming manager said that Juan the store manager was wrong, That Juan didn't know what he was talking about... that she IS THE GROOMING MANAGER and she won't take my dog for grooming no matter what Juan said ... Damn ... All I know is... that was extremely unprofessional Instead of being nice to me for the inconvenience I had two months ago... Steph flatly just refused to take my dog for grooming. I was skeptical bring my dog to Petco for grooming as she usually goes to a private groomer but due to the distance I didn't want to take the far drive.the reviews on yelp wasn't the best so it made me even more nervous, i looked at some google reviews and saw a groomer named Blue that many liked so I decided to give it a try. My golden doodle was really matted and I wanted to have her cut so that it would grow back nicely by the spring. Blue was very friendly and gentle with my fur baby. She kept me informed through the whole process. I knew she would need to be shaved but blue made the process better. I would definitely recommend her and my fur baby will be back to her for our next grooming. read more

ZERO STARS!!!!!! Esther the "Groomer" at the Petco in Willowbrook butchered my Maltipoo, who is 6 months old. He went in for a bath and puppy trim. After she butchered my fur baby, she had the nerve to say he was the problem and we'd have to take him to a Veterinarian to finish her botched job!!! She doesn't deserve to be a Groomer. You don't shave a 6-month old puppy. She was told not to cut his hair, only trim it. I wish I had never taken him there. I will never, ever go to this location again. I just had my two beagles groomed and requested the full shedding treatment. I was also charged for the service. Despite having the same treatment from other Petco's, I understand there might be some residual shedding (with no shedding for at least three weeks). I doesn't appear they did the shedding treatment at all. With one swipe of a brush, i was able to take a ton of fur off. One beagle still has "tuffs" of hair which makes me think they may have gotten a bath, but I'm not sure they were even brushed. Terrible for grooming. read more

I was supposed to go to petco in Elmhurst but was close by so came here to get parakeets. I had the cage with me as I was asked by the Petco I had gone to originally . Firstly the two women in store were not very interested in offering help , I had to go to front of the store to request parakeets to be placed in the cage and one of the two ladies said ok . After editing for two minutes she came with a card board box and When I asked why was she holding that she bluntly replied that she will put the birds in them !!! I told her we were told to bring a cage to help safely carry the birds home and she says " no we only do them in boxes , you need to take it home and put it in case yourself ". A week later I get there and that same employee said the groomer would no longer be able to honor the appointment cause she was not in. The lady who I spoke told me they are going to call me at 12 to confirm if they can get mi puppy. I call several times around 12 , they did not want to answer, bc they know my phone number. I called customer service for that store and what I received, was an unprofessional person who hung up on me. This is my first time trying to make and appt and was the worst experience. Overall good selection of fish, however, I was disappointed in the customer service. I got carded trying to purchase some fish for my tank at home. I didn't have a problem with this necessarily, but being asked if I was "with an adult" was what bothered me the most about the situation. They didn't believe I was 18. I'm 20. Another issue I ran into was that they refused to help me get a few fish for my own tank at home because they assumed my friend buying her new tank wanted to put fish inside of it immediately instead of letting it cycle. When she checked my friend out, she asked her about the heritage of her last name. When my friend said she did not know (she's adopted), the cashier made her very uncomfortable by asking "you don't know your heritage?". This seemed very unprofessional to discuss in a retail setting. We left and drove 10 minutes to Petsmart. Friendly cashiers, helpful advice, didn't embarrass me in front of other customers by thinking I was a preteen and making me show my ID. Won't be coming back to this location. read more

**NO STARS***The Petco in Willowbrook is my normal store and I visit there quite often to purchase frozen rats. I have to say that yesterday around 530pm was by far the worst customer service experience I have ever had and I was only in the store for less than 10 minutes. I check the freezer as I normally would and there weren't any large rats. I waited in line until Lisa the cashier was done ringing up the customer before me and asked for 2 large rats. I told her there were none in the freezer. She said she didnt think they had any. I asked if she could check since typically they are pulled from the back. She said No, I'm the only one here and I can't leave. Her response was offputting but understandable. So I said ok, can you get someone else to help me? Again her response was NO! She said the other person working was outside jumping someones car and another one was teaching a class. I said WOW seriously! Lisa 's response imediately was " if you dont like it you can call the corporate office" Now I'm blown away... I said really... that is not an appropriate response to a customer. Lisa said look we dont like it either we are always short staffed like a graveyard shift and stuck so call corporate and tell them theres nothing I can do. I told her I am a paying customer that is here in your store trying to make a purchase. I said well maybe the other person should be here helping you instead of jumping a car. Lisa responded how would you feel if you were stuck here... By now the other representative walked in and I asked her. Do you work here? I need two large rats. Can you help me? She said I'm not sure if we have any and I said can you please check she said sure and went to the back. As I waited I even asked Lisa are you having a bad and she stated No. The other lady returned said they were out of large rats. I said thank you and left... Horrible horrible service!! How many customers has she refused to help or just told well call corporate if you dont like it. How much money has this store lost for that reason. She could have said can you wait a few minutes and I can help or the other person should be back...Nothing...I am a retail Store Manager and I would not want someone like Lisa working in my store. Quite frankly I would have terminated someone that would treat a customer like that. Shes obviously disgruntled or doesnt like her job very much. Everyone else I've ever encountered at the store ..no issues. Lisa is bad for your business!!! So... I decided to take Lisa's advice and contact corporate. I spoke to a Manager named Louie. He took my complaint and recommended that I use the online delivery service so wouldnt have to deal with issues in the store. I told him they are frozen rats!! I've been there 3 times and every time there's employee smoking a cigarette near the front door which is a huge turn-off for customers like me. If I could give a zero star rating for this Petco, I would. I was very disappointed with my experience this afternoon. The stores hours state that they are open until 6:00pm; my younger siblings and I were asked to leave by employee within a matter of 10 minutes at 4:00pm. We had the intention of doing business with Petco with a particular animal in mind but, they didn't have animal in-store and decided to quickly look around the store before leaving. A woman loudly screamed across the store and another answered in another scream back, saying " Don't scream". We went to look at the fish tanks which neither had a sign saying customers could not enter, nor did the customer representative who approached us communicate that clearly. She said, " Don't go in there. Get out of there. Please." We left without saying, to walk to another region of the store. We looked at the hamsters, then birds and she was watching us; I noticed she faced our direction as we were looking around and she walked up, saying " You can't... guh...you can't look at the birds" and I was confused, so I asked, " What?" and she ran up to a sign and said, " Here, read this" as she slapped the sign that was taped on the birds cage and they flew in surprise. She walked away muttering, loudly " Like I told you over there". Within a matter of seconds we were approached by two other women who quickly said, " We need you to leave, the store is closing right now. So, were closing the store, we need you to leave". We said, "Okay that's fine" and one woman said, " We're afraid there are looters" as she past us. We left with confusion and felt upset that we were treated with such disrespect. There was no communication regarding reasons why they behaved the way did, it was unprofessional, their issues as employees should not be redirected to customers.
