However to my dismay, this friend is a fool to keep a close mind for all things foodie as one can forsaken life's daily bloodline as he believes it does not excite him. Thereby making him a Petulant baby boy! Business cards are available by request of thermography printing with chessy /corny wording: "this card is not worth anything but it is free." Atmospheric conditions contains two old fashioned telephone booths with fully operational coin phones. It appears to be established for many decades as even their business card is without a telephone area code going back to the day when only Manhattan carried the 212 area code. TV screens are plastered on the walls for sports. Bar tenders are hustling busy serving patrons ergo, at times dismiss our summons for the bill to turnover this endless night. Ladies, there are no hooks under the bar for bags or personal belongings as you'll have to put it on your lap while sitting on the stool. Patrons are a mix of young professionals, hotties, men in suits, fossils, sport fanatics, foodies, avid libation lovers, and bachelors. The place looks like a real dive but if you walk out based on that first impression, you will miss some tasty food and good beverages at fair prices. I had a very good hamburger and flavorful side salad with my brew. Our server was very nice and very knowledgeable about both the drink menu and the food menu. The seats are not particularly comfortable but I guess that's part of the dive bar experience. read more

My girlfriend and I visited NY for my birthday back in October. A trip dedicated to my love for the Yankees. This bar, this tavern, this humble establishment has a place in my heart. A local dive bar in the NYC that is dark lit, well air conditioned and has a chill low key environment for when you are thirsty and want nothing else but an easy spot to order a drink with a no frills bar tender and talk without all the extraneous components of service oriented dining. Defiantly one of the more interesting places ive found to get a drink in nyc. This is one of the places that actually thrives off of keeping things as they used to be in the good old days. I was sitting at the bar and had just placed an order for a burger and fries when I looked up and realized the oldest cash register that I had ever seen in my life. I asked if it was the original register and they said yes! Neato! The bartender was super friendly and told me the history of the resturant as I listened intently and ate my burger! The burger was one of the best burgers I had had sense I had been to NY. I was extremely entertained checking out all of the fixtures and old stiff. There is no T.V in this bar place so it's easy to engage in conversation. The background noise makes the perfect enviornment, not overbearing but not too quiet. I really do appreciate this place and the fact that they haven't changed a lot of things. My only sadness was finding it a few days before I left the city. Wasn't impressed with the burger really but I did ask for extra onions, pickles and tomatoes and they did not disappoint me at all with fulfilling that request. The wine was par but it's been around since 1911 so I mean I can't really complain right? Haha they must be doing something right. Definitely a louder place to be on the weekend. This is an improv bar, especially for the UCB folks. Reminds me of Flannery's and other no-frills Irish bars. Beer list is standard British/Irish pub fare, lacking the erudite 21st century beers my palate demands, but so be it. Didn't try the food but it smelled good. Contrary to what I predicted, this is not an Irish coffee shop. It's very much an Irish pub. It's nothing more or less than what you would want in a such place--dark green decor, clover motifs, cheap drinks and a rowdy crowd. This spot is a quick walk from the F or 2, 3 lines. read more

The best burger in NYC. I've had the pops burger too many times to count. I love this neighborhood bar. While a lot of the city is changing and more and more chains are opening, it's places like this that makes me remember what I love about NYC. Good place. Went there with gf. She works with special needs kids and the staff goes here to unwind. The beer selection was decent. Comedy club must be near the place because we got good seats at bar when they went to show. One guy passed wind leaving. I knew it was him because he did a not-so-sneaky look back. Chelsea dive bar. I got two beers for $11 plus tip but wasn't overall impressed by the place. I was expecting a bit of "Cheers," and it fell really flat. Over the years I have visited Peter McManus when in the area. It is one of the last of the old school gin mills left in NYC. This is a no frills drinking bar. This is not a pepper vodka, cucumber and mint crowd. It is a shot and beer crowd. They do serve food here, but I must admit I never ever have had a meal here. I enjoy coming here because it is convenient with a very mixed and electric crowd. You find suits, old timers, 20 somethings, hotties and Joe can I have another drink guy. Overall it is a decent and real bar kinda place. Real beer, for real people. It gets crowded for happy hour and after 8 PM. You won't go wrong having a drink or two at Peter McManus. They would get 5 stars but the TV's are 1980 tube technology sets. Need to install some HD TVs and this place would rule. I googled "dive bar nyc" and did a quick location scan to get as far away from the Sports club we walked to watch college football... we found this, fantastic little gem. Service was impeccable, the barkeep was friendly and recommended the best burger in NYC.. and the wings. Both, absolutely phenomenal. I returned to this pub a few days ago. I come to the city about 3 times a year, and had not ventured to Peter McManus since 2018. Like last time, I had the pastrami Reuben. And like last time, it was superb. Waitress was very personable, nice. Linda is her name, I believe. I always look forward to visiting this pub whenever I am in the city. On a unusually lazy afternoon after watching a UCB show, i came in here for a few drinks. Its an old bar with a slight veneer of charm, not easily seen, but after a few beers, one can feel it. The 'ale' on tap was tasty, hence the 3 stars. They have these fake 'antique' lamps that hang from the ceiling that I swear use parts, hot and cold knobs, from a sink set, the exact one I had as a kid. The area is full of trendy restaurants and bars so this place seems to be a holdout. It does seem to be an official collection area for the neighborhood's losers and knuckleheads, super fat sweaty Italian guys talking nonsense...they are here. I overheard one guy that claimed to be a 'big collector of gold and gold coins' to a girl on a nearby bar stool. He however had never heard of 'Engelhard' , the largest precious metal producer on the planet Earth and he wasn't sure what a 'troy ounce' was either. I laughed almost enough to pee myself. So, If you wanna' meet the gang for a few beers this place will do just fine. Oh, and if you want to wash your hands after using the bathroom, you might be out of luck..(pic supplied) read more

This place is all about the food. Don't skip out on the wings or one of their famous burgers. Trust me you won't regret it. The burger has a charred exterior and is cooked exactly the way you like it. The beef is perfectly seasoned and for a larger burger, not in the least bit sloppy or messy. The ingredients are all quality, you can tell they take pride in serving a great burger. it is anything but your typical pub/bar burger. I had a side of tots, if you are a tater tots person, these would get an A. They are crispy and crunchy as hell, none of this baked nonsense. They'll even put cheese on them if you wish. The portions in general are generous so save plenty of room. I was upset that I couldn't finish every bite. The wings are amazing, even if you are not a wing person which I am not. They are crispy without being greasy and full of flavor. the dipping sauce is hot and spicy, truly proper buffalo wings. Once you try the food you'll be looking for an excuse to go back for more. The interior is modest and the people are pretty low key. Upon first glance you almost feel out of place if you are not old school blue collar Irish, pay this no mind. Decent people are most welcome here regardless of your walk of life. The service was great and the staff is friendly and efficient. Pleasantly surprised and a great experience all around. If you've ever said to yourself "I would like to hang out with ex-cops, aspiring comedians and alcoholics" this is the place for you. There's no pretension here because that would be absurd. The bar is lit with fluorescent lights, so if your date is not attractive this will be well highlighted. But don't bring a date here - this bar is as romantic and sexy as Carrot Top in a tuxedo. It's not a date bar. This is the bar you go to when your buddies come visiting and you want to go somewhere and drink a lot and talk about what makes your wife mad. One thing I like about this place - every third beer or so seems to be on the house. The crowd consists of folks like Old Drunk Regular, former SNL cast member Horatio Sanz, Huge Alcoholic Lady, and lots of kids who think taking $300 classes at Upright Citizens Brigade makes them hilarious. I like the place, though 65% of my friends will not come with me. When you're in the mood for a quintessential drinking bar, this place works just fine. Why they call it a cafe is beyond me. Last week, I went out to this pub near my new apartment with a friend for an evening drink. Once inside, we were seated quickly and left to shout at each other over the raucous din of the sporty "bros" jostling to be the most beered-up and boisterous. The drinks were fine, standard - I'd read something on the internet about well drinks being around $3.50, so I was pretty surprised to discover they are (of course) $6 - this I found out after hesitantly stating my uncertainty, then being shut down by our waitress, who was utterly devoid of manners and basic sociability. Two of my friends then arrived from Boston, to stay with me in New York for the night. Since the pub is right down the block, I thought it'd be convenient to have them meet me there, and maybe stay for another drink with them. To my absolute shock and confusion, as they sat down next to me my previous waitress stopped in her tracks and snarled, "Oh no, I'm not serving you!" At first I laughed, thinking it had to be a joke, until my Bostonian friend Alan interjected, "No... I think she's actually serious." I attempted to get her attention, requesting an explanation as to why she was refusing to serve us. She ignored me completely, and I was left at the bar trying to get the attention of ANYONE working there. I asked to see the manager, and was again simply ignored for several minutes. Finally, my friends and I had had enough, and simply departed - but not before I made it clear to the bartenders that I had every intention of writing this very review... Absolutely horrible experience. I will never return. Today when I walked by, their window was broken. Perhaps one of the many customers blithely ignored and treated like dirt took things to the next level? :P read more

Peter McManus is a local. It's one of those dark Irish bars where it's a lot of cops and firemen. But there's a curious element to it too because it's a local for improvisors from the various improv theatres near by(UCB, the Magnet, the PIT) too. So it's not uncommon to spot various comedians from time to time. Sitting in the booths in the back. You'll want to commandeer one of the three prized circle booths in the back. And not just because they're cooler, but also because the center two regular booths have wonky seat backs. You'll be battling the person behind you for leverage. It's not a fancy nor girlie place, so I wouldn't suggest ordering your "White Zin" or apple martini. Think more like Martini's in It's A Wonderful Life!("Mister, we serve hard drinks in here for men who want to get drunk fast.") Get a beer(try the McManus ale). Or a highball. If you hang out, you're going to get a buy back. Some things to note: McManus is a Yankee's bar. And most important, never ever bring your drinks from the bar to the booths in the back. You'll get a scolding from your waitress and they'll no doubt point to the big sign on the wall. You are forewarned! read more

My friend and I discovered this place one night a few years ago while walking around, just trying to find a laid-back place to gab and have a few drinks. Niether of us are into "scenes" or places where people get dressed up and act like annoying twits, so we passed by a handful of places while walking south on 7th Ave. Then we saw McManus and said, "yay! a pub!" As we walked in, there was some Willie Nelson playing on the jukebox and we just looked at each other, smiled and realized we had found our place for the night. We sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender a bit and just had a good time. It wasn't too crowded or too loud. Yes, it's a dive, but it's a comfortable dive. You can tell that a lot of the patrons are people who have been going there for years (decades, probably). We've been back numerous times (and we've seen Horation Sans there almost every time) over the past few years and have really enjoyed ourselves each time. The food isn't anything particularly awesome, so we usually just go for drinks. The jukebox has all of our old favorites and we always enjoy the assortment of tunes people play. The bathrooms are smack dab in the center of the place (which is weird, I think) and way too small, but it's not a big deal. The mixed crowd is almost always really laid back (unless the college kids come in, then it gets a bit obnoxious) and the bartenders are always willing to chat for a few if they're not too busy. McManus is horrible. Don't get me wrong, it's at a corner where there aren't a lot of places to get a drink, so if you're looking to get some booze in your pie hole then this is the place. Bit do not come here to get food or sit in the back or bring your damn kids because the experience of being in McManus will scar them for life.
