After seeing many dentists for my 6-year old son who needed a baby root canal, I finally found the confident, friendly doctor and environment to have this work done in. So many dentists these days are con-artists, but Dr. Joe tells it like it is and recommends the work that is needed, not more or less. We've been coming to Dr. Joe for a year and a half. This fall, our 4yo son had his first x-rays and, horror, he had cavities in all his molars! We were anxious, but Dr. Joe did a wonderful job taking care them. We chose to have our son get nitrous oxide for the procedures (it took two appointments), and he has no bad memories of the experience. He actually was excited to go back for his second appointment because it meant getting to watch another movie -- on the cool TV hanging from the ceiling. All in all, a great experience! read more

Finding Dr. Joe was nothing short of a blessing. He is amazing. Very patient, kind, and took all my concerns into consideration. I travel 30 min one way just to see him because he is that great. Also, all his staff are just as kind as he is. My daughter had been to previous pediatric dentists and the dental assistants were not able to get the x-rays due to my daughter's gag reflex and the assistants being impatient. Well, not the case at Dr. Joe's, his assistant knew how to relax my daughter and they were able to get full mouth x-rays in one try. read more

We saw Dr. Joe at the Fair Oaks location yesterday. It was my tot's first visit to the dentist. He was very well taken care of and he loved it. The assistant- I wish I had asked for her name- was thorough and patient, without being condescending. And Dr. Joe! He is great. Very calm and relaxed demeanor. I did not enjoy filling out forms with information that was gathered over the phone when I made the appointment, however the receptionist was very friendly as well and made up for the hassle. I took my three year old daughter to Dr. Joe this week for her first dentist appointment and the office could not have been more kid friendly. There were tons of toys, beanbag chairs, large screen TV's with Disney films playing to make my daughter very relaxed and at ease. I was surprised that my daughter was a very good girl and kept her mouth open to let Yashi clean her teeth with the dental instruments. The best part about our trip to Dr. Joe's office was it's proximity to that wonderful pharmacy/ice cream parlor located at the corner of Fair Oaks and Mission. We both had ice cream sundaes to celebrate the occasion. There's also a fantastic toy store across the street, so the whole excursion was a fun outing for both of us. Staff and dentists here are wonderful. I don't have much else to say, but that really should say it all. Dentists and doctors are often in the terrible-to-mediocre range. These folks are friendly, great with fussy kids, and they work to cultivate a kid-friendly and happy environment. If you have kids, give these folks a whirl. read more

Dr. Joe and his staff was so professional. When I read all the reviews on yelp, I was amazed by how many positive reviews his office had. That is very rare to see on yelp. Well, they stand by all of there positive reviews and more. My 2 year old and 4 year old boys really enjoyed there visit. I loved the decorations and toy area for the kids. I have found my favorite dentist for my boys. My search is over. Such a positive environment and Dr. Joe has an amazing skill with handling his little clients. Dr. Joe is the BEST dentist for kids. My daughters are ages 3 and 5 and we've been going to Dr. Joe for 5 years and is the only dentist we go to. He's really good and so patient with the kids. His entire staff is extremely professional and so gentle and pleasant with the kids. The office is really clean and sanitary but also set up for a fun environment for kids. They play Disney movies so kids can watch while in the dentist chair. Great distraction. I've never had a bad experience there. I highly recommend this place. read more

I have never given 5 stars to any establishments on yelp, but after my first visit to Dr. Joe's office today for my 5 year old I would give him and his staff 10 stars. They were all friendly, pleasant, welcoming and most importantly they made my nervous daughter very comfortable throughout her first appointment. My daughter will be excited to go see them again in 6 months. I highly recommend Dr. Joe. He is very busy with lots of patients so you have to book in advance, but he is worth the wait. read more

After dialing office phone number 3rd time finally answered the phone number and put me on hold. After being on hold front desk failed to schedule correct appointment. Dr. Joe and staff are very wonderful. The office is geared toward kids and they have so many play areas. Every time my child comes here, she thinks it's play time. Dr. Joe and staff understand the patience levels of toddlers so they work quickly. I've taken my child here for routine services as well as dental accidents. I have never written a yelp comment but feel the need to tell as many people as I can about the wonderful care my son received from Dr. Joe and his staff. I have an 18-month old son that is very rambunctious at the playground. He ran into a metal platform and knocked 4 teeth loose as well as fractured a few teeth. The amount of blood was horrific and I was concerned that he could lose the teeth and possibly choke on them. So I immediately called Dr. Joe's office and they told me I could come in right away. My son was still bleeding and in a ton of pain but Dr. Joe was able to examine him and they were able to get X-rays with him screaming and flailing in the chair. Dr. Joe was so great with my son and gave me a solid game plan on how to care for him while his teeth healed. A week later we went back for a check up and this time my son was crying because he didn't want to leave the office, he wanted to stay and play! I cannot give higher praise to Dr. Joe and his staff. As a first time mom in my first traumatic accident with my child, I was so incredibly grateful for the immediate, compassionate and thorough care. We had a great experience a couple of months ago with my son's first teeth cleaning, but this accident showed me that this dental practice goes above and beyond. read more

Really over-rated. Been with them for few year. Initially very pleasant but now practice way too busy. My 14 year child with severe tooth pain, was told no availability x 3 weeks. Manager did not seem to care. Was told Dr. Joe does not handle emergencies, go to ER. Also recent visits seem much more rushed. Extremely disappointed. Our family has been going to Dr. Joe for a number of years. Unfortunately his practice is becoming so busy and he never stops taking new patients that he cannot take care of my kids well. When my kids have more urgent needs, cavity, painful tooth, etc, they can NEVER be seen at a reasonable time anymore. Each time we just wait. The office just says Dr. Joe does not have anything available for another two to three month even when I said my child is having pain. Oh, and "we will put you on the wait-list." REALLY!!!??? The appointment in 2-3 mo is not even for an after-school appointment. My kid is just suffering right now and we don't even know why we keep waiting. He does not have any time for urgent cases or any of his old loyal patients. He only has time for healthy routine children and you still have to wait months. It's time to change to another pediatric dentist. If you have not started with him, don't start. Find someone else that will fit you in when your child needs him. read more

JOE TRULY CARES FOR HIS PATIENTS AS IF THEY WERE HIS OWN CHILDREN! ~He is patient, respectful, gentle, kind, and thoughtful in all of his ways. ~I am from out of town and was only here visiting when my 2 year old starting having pain in her top 4 front teeth. She had tripped and took a direct hit to them over a year ago which has slowly led to their discolor and decay. ~It was so hard to choose a provider to trust my child's first dental experience to. I can see why Dr. Joe is rated so highly on yelp, though. ~He is one of the few care providers I've met who was willing to work with me regardless of my financial situation MY DAUGHTER CAME BEFORE HIS DOLLAR. ~ I was in tears at the level of compassion we received. Also, being firm in our beliefs of holistic and alternative health approaches, Dr. Joe was open and non-judgmental when I expressed concerns about flouride, xrays, etc. He never once pushed any procedure or idea upon me. ~Extraction of all four teeth was the recommendation......not any easy one to swallow. The process was quick ( I mean, 2 minutes!) and Dr. Joe was obviously skilled. This is something priceless when working with a two year old. Amazing! ~My daughter loved the office atmosphere full of toys, stuffed animal, books etc. The sweet hygienists were like aunties to her and I felt like everyone at the office viewed her as a whole little person, respecting all her emotions and concerns as well as mine. ~ I think we will plan to stay with Dr. Joe even though we live several hours away. We will set up our appointments for when we are in town. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for caring for my daughter! You were the best when we weren't willing to settle for anything less. My daughter has a huge fear of going to the dentist. Her previous dentist scared her and developed this fear in her. We moved to Pasadena and decided that we would switch her dentist. I found Dr. Joe had high reviews so we decided to go with him. My daughter became very anxious when we informed her that she was going to the dentist. The staff was incredibly friendly and patient. They worked with my daughter' pace. When she became afraid they would pause and give her a break. Before they performed any work the dental assistant made sure to inform my daughter what she was going to be using and how it worked. Her previous dentist didn't do this and this decreased her anxiety A LOT! Dr. Joe was amazing!!!! My daughter needed a root canal, a cavity fill in and a cap replacement. He did all of those and my daughter didn't cry or become upset at all, which was incredible. Highly recommend Dr. Joe!!!! read more

We took our three year old for his first dentist visit recently and picked Dr. Joe because a friend recommended him. I was a bit nervous because it was his first visit and I wasn't sure how it would go. The staff and Dr. Joe are very nice and reassuring. They walked us through what they were doing and made my son feel at ease. One of the biggest things that Dr. Joe did though was he single handedly got our son to get rid of his binky! This was something we had been working on for a year. He absolutely loved the pacifier for sleeping, but Dr. Joe let us know that it was pushing his teeth forward. Dr. Joe got down to our son's level and told him that he needed to get rid of the binky because of what it was doing to his teeth. Our three year old took that advice seriously because that day, he was done with it. He even tells us that it's because Dr. Joe said it was messing up his teeth. Halleluia! I read so many good reviews here, so I brought my two-year-old son in for the 3rd time cleaning of the year knowing I would have to pay out of the pocket last year. We were 10 minutes early to our appointment time and had all the forms filled out at home. This was what I experienced. The assistant did not show what she was going to do nor how to brush the teeth as some other parents have stated here to make him more comfortable. Rather, my son was dragged to the cleaning room within a minute or two of entering into the main office. There were so many toys in the main dental room; of course, he would like to take a look around. Needless to say that he was crying before sitting down on the cleaning chair in the glass room. Worst of all, I was billed six months later for the approximately $160 cleaning fee that was paid when the service was rendered. I am just glad that I paid with credit card and kept my receipt. read more

I have two girls and a boy who will be 4 years old next week. My son also happens to be autistic and has very limited words due to speech delays. My son has had 2 ER visits where he fell and his tooth puncture the sides of his mouth and required stitches. Recently, he fell at school and his upper front tooth was yanked out of his mouth. My son is definitely a regular here and every time we come, Dr. Joe is very kind and patient with him. Every time we've had an emergency, his staff has always managed to squeeze us in for a visit the same day and Dr. Joe has never charged us for those visits. Dr. Joe and his staff genuinely care about their patients and always take that extra step to ensure that questions are answered and concerns are addressed. My 2 year old daughter recently had her first cleaning and to my surprise, did everything the hygienist had asked of her. This is proof of how wonderful they all are b/c I truly believe that children are the best readers of people's character. My daughter is 17 months old and was in need of her first dental checkup/cleaning this past week. I live in L.A. on the border of Pasadena and South Pasadena and work as an elementary school teacher South Pas, so I wanted something close to home/work. Having no experience with pediatric dentists, I went online, read reviews, and hoped for the best. I was extremely impressed with Dr. Joe and have been referring him to my friends. The office was very clean, very tidy, and had lots of different games/toys for kids to play with. The hygenist/receptionist was wonderful on the phone before I even met her, and just as lovely in person. Both she and Dr. Joe were extremely friendly, professional, and caring. They were wonderful with my daughter and said that if, at any time, I wanted them to stop what they were doing, it wouldn't be a problem. After Dr. Joe cleaned my daughter's teeth, he then spent about 10 minutes talking with me and asking me if I had any questions. I told them I was really happy and impressed with their service.
