Our 5 year old daughter got an infected tooth as a result from a cavity. After consulting with a few pediatric dentists on the best course of action we decided to move forward with Dr Joe's recommendation of extraction. There were several things about Dr Joe and his practice that we liked. His office is very warm, open and inviting. The receptionist was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I noticed immediately that my normally "nervous to visit any doctor" was pretty at ease and comfortable. When they were ready for her the dental asst welcomed her with a big basket of toothbrushes and told her to pick one out. Prize #1. And parents know how much those prizes mean to the kids. Next she got to pick her flavor toothpaste from about 10 different flavors. At previous dentists she put up a big stink whenever they wanted to clean her teeth. She never even flinched while Kristine cleaned her teeth. She was super gentle, very quick, gently coaxed her when necessary and was amazing with how she explained things to her. Next up was Dr Joe's exam. Again, she surprised us by being so relaxed with him. His bedside manner is phenomenal. He is gentle, has a quiet, soothing voice and a reassuring presence. He was great in the way he spoke and interacted with her. We immediately knew he was going to be our permanent dentist for the kids. He answered all of our questions and gave us all of our options. He took the time to explain why some things other dentists had recommended were not necessary in his opinion. To my daughter's pleasure she got 2 more prizes at the end of the visit. On the day of the extraction my daughter was almost eager to go back. They let her choose what movie to watch. They were beyond patient with waiting for her to get comfortable enough to sit in the chair. In fact, they even said "we go at their pace. When she's ready she'll sit. Until then we'll hang out talking to her". When was the last time you weren't rushed by a doctor's office? During the procedure dr Joe and Avery, his DA were phenomenal. They talked to us and our daughter throughout. They explained everything in very child friendly terms. When our daughter would start to get nervous or antsy they knew exactly what to say to calm her. Our daughter left with her tooth in a cute little tooth case, several prizes and most importantly a huge smile and trust in Dr Joe and his team. read more

-Staff and Dr. Joe are so genuinely nice, courteous, and helpful to answer any questions and concerns you might have -staff was very prompt with trying to get my son an appointment (and were very sweet and nice when i had to call and reschedule) -looove the assistant! She was nothing but smiles and sweet and made everything exciting for my 3yr old boy -the assistant showed my little one all the tools she was going to be using on his teeth and told him what they were going to be for (my boy loved it) -then Dr. Joe came and checked out his teeth and told us any concerns he had, and what to do. Very friendly and personable. -they get to choose a toothbrush, glasses to wear during the visit, then flavor of paste (*chocolate, mint, some other fruity stuff), flavor of vitamin (my son chose *cherry), and finally get to pick out two toys at the end of the visit :) I just love the whole experience and vibe there! One of my sons hates having his mouth touched and did cry and they were so patient with him. Don't be out off by the front desk which also gave me a runaround the first time I scheduled. Dr Joe and his partner are worlds apart from the other dentists I've taken my kids to over the years. My son needed to get a tooth extraction and dr.joe was so patience and explained into detail about the alternative routes we could go before extraction. I was more worried than my 5 year old...! My first review on yelp. My son was diagnosed with moderate autism a year and a half ago. So the thought of taking him to see a dentist was stressful enough as it is. We had just moved back home to the SGV area and I needed to find a place that was great with children but also had experience with special needs children. We've been to the office a few times now and have always came out with better than expected results! Dr. Joe and his assistants as well as the other doctors, are absolutely amazing with both my children. They were reassuring and patient and did an amazing job with my son. I had to write a review after seeing some of the negative ones. Before I found Dr. Joe, I took my daughter to a dentist for her first check up when she was about 3. It was so traumatic, the dentist did not take the time to speak with my child and just wanted my daughter's mouth open. Her suggestion was to strap her down just to look in her mouth. We refused the straps. She said that she couldn't continue then and concluded our visit, just like that. On our way out, the receptionist made sure to tell my daughter that she did not do a good job, and therefore she wouldn't get any prizes. We were charged for a full examination which pissed me off because then I could not get a real examination with another dentist without paying out of pocket. My daughter hated dentists after that, who could blame her? Cut to preschool a few months later. Dr. Joe came to her class, spoke to the kids, and gave them a toothbrush. She came home so excited and wanted to go to his office, so I took her. Dr. Joe has been amazing, she loves him, and willingly goes to the dentist now. He knows how to talk with kids, he is gentle, does not force anything on you, and explains your options and knows how to make children comfortable. He cares about the emotional state as well as the dental state, what a concept! I highly recommend him. For the negative reviews: we have never been lied to or misled about costs. I also do not find the office to be too "modern" or extravagant, it simply comfortable. Also, he is very capable of developing relationships with his clients and I never feel like he doesn't have time to talk about dental issues. Dr Joe's office has grown and he no longer takes the time needed to review patients properly. We've been seeing him since our kids we're 4&3 - over the course of the years it's harder to get in to see him and I was very disappointed when we found that out it would take 2 months to get in for a cavity filling! Upon finding this out I decided to take my child else where - and at the new Dentist they found that the x-rays taken at Dr. Joes were not read properly and the cavity situation was actually more severe! During my four year old daughters first appointment the staff was so patient and welcoming. The dental assistant took their time to walk my daughter through the tools and procedure . Dr, Joe also took extra time to ensure that all my questions and concerns were answered. My daughter also had treatment done at her second visit. Dr. Joe and his assistant made my daughter feel comforted and were able to fill in her two cavities without any anesthesia or without the need to tie her down given her my daughters state of calmness. My 4 year old just had the best experience at Dr Peter Joe's office. My daughter had a bad experience with her previous dentist and has been afraid ever since. She would cry and scream when we even drove by her previous dentist office. So my neighbor recommended her granddaughters dentist and I thought I would give him a try. I'm glad I did! They made her feel at ease and took things slow until she became comfortable. They were able to refill her filling that had fallen out and she was calm the whole time. When we left she was non stop talking about Dr joe and his assistant and how she wants to go back. It made me happy knowing that she actually likes going now. My first visit for my 18 month old first check up. I have to say I was very satisfied. The waiting room is kid friendly, my son was entertaining himself with the toys while I filled out his info. I waited maybe 10minutes to be seen from the time I arrived. Staff are all friendly and really try to make the visit nice for kids. My son got to pick out his own toothbrush and flavored toothpaste. The dental assistant was very polite and explained what she was going to so and use to me and my little one so he wouldn't be scared. He did very well. He let her brush his teeth and check his teeth. Then the Dr came in to see him and checked out all his teeth and gave recommendations based on what he finds. Luckily my son had great teeth and no cavities. Dr. Peter Joe is great! He has been my children's dentist from the beginning. He and his staff are wonderful with children. He is gentle, soft spoken and always giving my kids encouraging words. I've heard horror stories about children and the dentist. I found Dr. Joe on Yelp and decide to check him out. He had five stars back then. Jodi the front desk girl can be a little standoffish but not everyone is perfect and you can't let her attitude interfere with the experience your child gets from being a patient of Dr. Joe's. We go for Dr. Joe and his great assistants! They explain everything to the children before they do it and are sooo patient. They have a play area in the dental room so if you have more than one child you can keep an eye on all of them in one room. I recommend him to all my friends and family. read more

Dr. Joe and his staff are awesome. The place could double as an indoor playground. My 3 year old son did not want to leave and keeps asking when he can see Dr. Joe again. Don't go to a "family dentist" that doesn't get how difficult it is to keep a kid entertained. Dr. Joe "gets it"....plenty of stuff to play with, little to no wait, fun toys at the end. Dr Joe is AWESOME! He was wonderful with my 15 month old son and a God send for our family. I am a military member stationed in Germany. My 15 month old son and wife were visiting Pasadena when, three days before they were supposed to return to Germany, he fell and cracked his two front teeth. With no knowledge of the area, she called me back in Germany. While she took him to the ER to get checked out, I began searching for a dentist in the area with nothing but the Internet and my phone. After three calls explaining I was calling from Germany and my son's situation, I was worried I wasn't going to find someone to help us. On my fourth call, Dr Joe answered the phone. He was awesome! He talked me through everything, put my mind at ease, and even offered to stay late so my wife could call him after the ER visit. He made time in his schedule to see my son and fixed his cracked teeth. He showed my son every tool and let him play with it before he used it. He sent us all the medical paperwork and even sent us the X-rays so we could do follow-ups back here in Germany. Dr. Joe is a wonderful pediatric dentist. I initially feared taking my 2 year old toddler to the dentist for the first time, but Dr. Joe and his team made it completely painless and actually turned it into an experience to remember. Dr. Joe is so sweet and gentle with the children, as is his team. I didn't think my son would allow anyone to touch inside of his mouth, but something about Dr. Joe's demeanor made him feel comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Joe was able to look inside, count all of his teeth, and do the actual cleaning and fluoride treatment. He allowed my son to lay on my lap while he was examined so that he would feel comfortable. Also the office is incredibly kid friendly with toys and stuffed animals everywhere plus flat screen TVs on the wall to keep the kids entertained. I would like to add to the many positive reviews about Dr. Joe, my new hero! Last weekend, my 6-year old son knocked his two front teeth lose, when he fell on the couch table. We took him to urgent care with bleeding gums, two severely loose baby teeth and obviously quite distraught. Urgent Care doctor told us that he wasn't prepared to deal with something like this and recommended going to the dentist. Well, problem was that it was Sunday and our dentist's office was closed. Nevertheless, the Urgent Care doctor contacted Dr. Joe, left a message on the voice mail and only a short time later (and to everyone's surprise at the Urgent Care Center), Dr. Joe actually called back and set up an appointment for 2 PM the same day!! I took my son whose gums were still bleeding three hours after the trauma to Dr. Joe's office, which he had opened just for us! Everything was set up and in the next 45 minutes, Dr. Joe took the best care of him that I could imagine. He was patient, gentle, informative and reviewed our options with me in detail. Ultimately, we decided to pull these teeth (as the adult teeth were pretty much ready to come and the constantly loose teeth would have made his life a lot harder) and to my surprise, my son went through the whole procedure with barely a flinch. The dentist and assistances are great here, they given your child all their attention and care. My issue here is the front office / billing staff, they ran my insurance and verified coverage but because of plan limitations I got stuck paying the whole bill. After initially paying my copay at the insurance rate, the best they could do was give me a discount on the balance at their cash rate. Had the office staff done their job correctly I would have known this dental work was not covered. In fact, I should have known better, while sitting in the waiting room, I overheard the office staff keep another parent on hold, while pretending to verify benefit coverage. I will not return here for lack of professionalism by the office staff. read more

Just went to see Dr. Joe for the first time today. SOOOOO much better than my son's first pediatric dentist! Dr. Joe has the best bedside manner, and the dental hygienist was also very kind and patient and spent a lot of time showing all the instruments to my 3 year old son so they wouldn't seem foreign or frightening. I was amazed at how relaxed my son was throughout the cleaning and checking for cavities. Afterwards my son said "He was a nice doctor." I cannot recommend Dr. Joe highly enough. read more

Dr Joe came highly recommended by a friend and he definitely lived up to our expectations! He returned our phone calls immediately, and walked us through everything for our 3 year old's first dentist appointment. Our son did great throughout the entire exam and cleaning. What a great experience my two year old had! This was his first time to a dentist and DR. Joe along with his assistant Yashi made it extremely painless and comfortable. Going to Dr. Joe is the best and most refreshing experience ever. He is the most amazing dentist who makes the patients and parents feel at ease.
