I love Peter's! It's amazing! I've been coming here for over 30 years. This is our usual ice cream spot after sports, games, outings and just dinner. I love their polar storms, sundaes, dole whip, soft serve, custards, cakes and more! There is something for everyone here; they have so many options and flavors. Even if there is a long line they have multiple servers so it'll move quickly. They have plenty of outdoor seating and parking available here too. Stopped by for the first time, although friends had recommended Peter's. I was impressed by the number of different twists of soft serve they have including things like strawberry banana. I love a good twist so I tried the vanilla and orange dole whip. The ice cream here is very rich and delicious and the dull whip was a perfect addition to this dish. In addition to the variety of soft and hard ice cream, there are also a variety of mix i s and sprinkles. We arrived early, which is a good thing to do since the line gets very long. Service was good and prompt and there is plenty of parking though the lot spaces are not marked and it was difficult to figure out where to park. read more

Cute little icecream stand with fun seasonal flavors and twists. Pictured are the pumpkin and maple twists (with added caramel) and the hot caramel apple sundae. Both delicious. The pumpkin wasn't overly pumpkin-y which I really enjoyed. They had fun and refreshing summer flavors as well. The girls working are always nice and friendly and don't mind my last minute caramel add-on. There are several tables to sit at, some are kiddie-height. A decent parking area as well. read more

After enjoying a delicious lunch at Cracker Barrel, we figured we should get some dessert. After a bit of googling, we happened upon Peter's Polar Parlor. It's definitely a cute little place. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere but the outdoor, old-school ambiance is worth the trip. I decided to keep it simple by getting a Hot Fudge Sundae with all the fixins. It's a tasty concoction. It doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything but it certainly satisfied my craving for a sundae. I wish the ice cream were a little creamier and the hot fudge sauce a little richer, but those are small complaints for something I enjoyed very much. read more

The place is absolutely adorable and feels like you're stepping back in history. The employees were very friendly and polite. The ice cream was very good and creative; I've never had pistachio soft serve before and it was delish! Okay there's my nice things I have to say. Besides the above the area is a little creepy, I wouldn't want to go here alone and worry for the girls that work there honestly. The servings were tiny compared to the prices they were charging. I understand everything costs more but if you're charging what you're charging, you might as well add a little bit more to that price and give customers the feeling like they got something for their money! This place has one strong point, and that's the pistachio/custard soft serve mix. It's pretty much the reason I've come back as many times as I have. The pistachio ice cream makes a great base for flurries or sundaes also. Everything else seems to be run of the mill in terms of what they offer. Their hard ice cream is Hershey's brand, and they have the same novelties as anywhere else. I briefly skimmed the reviews and saw most of the same complaints I have about the place. Inconsistency is a big one. The quality and quantity of your ice cream will vary greatly based on who you get. One time we even placed an order during a shift change or break, and the first cone had about twice as much ice cream as the 2nd one. Sprinkle serving is one of the heaviest metrics we use to judge an ice cream place. It pretty much ruins the cone when they just spoon them on from the top. But the ice cream is so soft, you're likely to get that sometimes. Whenever possible, we like to take our ice cream home to eat or freeze, and their soft serve in a cone certainly wouldn't survive that car ride, even when this is one of the closest places to us. So we've got problems with portability, consistency, occasionally with the sprinkles, and we also agree that the portions are pretty small for the cost. A lot of strikes against the place when there are plenty of other places to choose from. At the end of the day though, this isn't fine dining, this is an ice cream stand. 2 stars because they deliver without offending the senses, and an extra because pistachio based flurries, or "storms" have a serious edge over the ones you'll get elsewhere. read more

Also known as Pete's Polar Parlor, this ice cream stand has been open for over 40 years on Milton Ave in between the towns of Solvay and Camillus. Here, the menu includes soft-serve, custard, frozen yogurt and hard ice cream. Patrons can also get "Polar Storms," or flurries, in a variety of flavors. Special sundaes listed are Fudge Brownie, Hot Banana, Fresh Fruit Yogurt Parfait and even a Doggie Treat Sunday for the four-legged friends. Pete's is the stuff of legend around these parts. Patrons are fiercely loyal to this place, as I first found out when my best friend introduced me to them. Years later, I'd meet my wife, who grew up in the Solvay area, and also swears by the place. Pete's definitely has a loyal fan following. So I've been several times. And it's a fine little stand. I personally don't get the fierce loyalty, perhaps its from people who have gone here for years with their family and have great memories from childhood, but I've always found it to be a simple ice cream stand that doesn't stand out much from others. They have a decent sized menu. As others have mentioned, there isn't as much to choose from as other ice cream places, but there's definite variety and not just plain old ice cream to choose from. I've always found prices/portions comparable to other stands and nothing outrageous, and I've never had anything bad here, and I've tried several things, from ice cream to dole whip to slushies. Employees are the usual ice cream stand ever-changing high school students, and I've always had friendly service. Overall, it's a typical little ice cream stand. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. service was not good. I ordered 3 milkshakes, all three were were liquid, the cookie no one was just 2% milk in a cup. The black raspberry one tasted like strawberry milk. And the chocolate one was just chocolate milk. Would not recommend. read more

My kids ordered two milkshakes and when they got them there was barely any ice cream and alot of milk. We patiently waited in line again to address the issue and when we spoke with them they were not only rude they would just complete good customer service and fix it. I've been coming here forever like most people who wrote reviews. From 15 years ago to now the portions have gotten a little smaller and the prices a little higher but hey, that's life. They have some great options here and some good ice cream. The berry twist and orange and vanilla are classics but somehow they are always out of polar bars with nuts. The employees are normally pretty nice, obviously there is always seasonal help which they seem to train really well. Is it the best ice cream you'll ever have? No, but it's a really solid spot. I realize that this is not a full year business...but have prices been jacked up that much that you have to refinance your house in order to treat the kids to a SMALL soft serve cone?? I have been visiting this place since I was little. It is like tradition to go there on a hot summer day. Unfortunately the menu has suffered and so have the prices. The prices are WAY too high. Double other local places. My partner and I each got an ice cream cone. Not sundaes but simple cones. $11. He got a waffle cone but it was a joke. My medium was the size of other local places smalls/kiddie. We have found a new local place with a better menu and much more reasonable prices. It's the same lady that helped me twice so I think it's her. Shes new and was training when I came but her ice cream portions are insulting. Not worth it. Started going here when I met my husband 20 years ago, it was the ice cream stand he grew up going to. The custard was the BEST! We took our children there and they also loved it. Sooooo sad and disappointed!!! We use to go to Carol's (she is Peter's wife, but that ice cream stand closed). So we stopped at Peter's for the first time in a long while. Many different flavors of Crowley's soft ice cream listed on one small board between two of the three windows but no hard ice cream. Ordered a root beer float with chocolate ice cream. There is a line of name brand sodas on top of the cooler in the back of the shop but the soda used was from a 3 liter bottle of Great Value from Walmart. The chocolate ice cream was a dollop cutely placed on the edge of the cup. We estimated about 3 tablespoons of ice cream. When we mentioned it to the worker, his attitude was "well it's down the inside" (there was no other ice cream in the 16oz. cup). The hot fudge sundae with nuts, real whipped cream and a cherry was a medium size and nothing special. There is also NO prices listed anywhere. So I guess when it's rainy and cold the prices can be different then a hot steamy summer night. Yah the cash registers are pre-programmed but that can be changed fast. We will be making our own sundaes and floats at home with Byrne Dairy ice cream from now on. read more
