Which it might be lol. But to me it's nostalgic and a comfort food I crave now and then. They're cash only and offer fried shrimp, fish, fries, burritos, burgers etc. they have a drive thru which was redone recently so you're not clogging up Glendale Ave. I like the fish and shrimp combo and always grab extra sauce which is like ketchup and hot sauce. Love the burger, love the tartar sauce on the fish. I recommend going on Mondays, the tartar sauce just tastes better. LOL the chicken strips are crunchy and just delicious when dipped in their Pete's sauce. I like to add some tobacco to my sauce and dip the French fries. I wish the fries would be crispy as well, but not everything can be perfect. I truly enjoy their burgers, it makes me think of my childhood. My Grandson and I grabbed lunch via the Drive-Thru last week. We usually go to the one on Van Buren and when I realized Pete's Fish & Chips was literally down the street from my new place, I was so Happy! We ordered the Monster Cheeseburger Combo. It's a decent sized burger on a Sesame Seed bun, with Ketchup, Mustard & Onions. It also includes a Fried Burrito (THE BEST!) and a side of French Fries. I also added an order of Frings (1/2 Onion Rings & 1/2 Fries). Food was still Great! The service was excellent and we got our food hot off the grill/fryer. I'd say it took a total of 15 min or less from ordering, paying, getting our food and leaving the restaurant. I didn't take pictures, but there's a cool mural on the wall by the Drive/Thru line. It gives off a Fun Vibe! I think next time we'll go into the seating area. I'd definitely recommend this Pete's Fish & Chips location to everyone! read more

I went last night with my cousin at like 9:45pm and this morning woke up throwing up my food, I got food poisoning from the food last night.

Today I stopped by to get the seafood combo,number two,got home and realized the food was undercooked.when I first arrive to the speaker cashier didn't take my order right away even tho I was the only one there I had to say "hello" to get their attention, it was about 20 min before they closing once I got to the window they took a while to hand me my food, as if they were trying to close early and they had turned off their fryer and turned it back on to cook my food. I have been going to Pete's for a long time. Today the fish was really crispy with a kind of shiny film on the exterior. The taste was bad, the shrimp was also a different shape and texture. This was a terrible meal. I called and complained, but there was no understanding of the issue. Food - over the years the size of the shrimp has decreased and the fries are about the same. It's a hit or miss on the crispness. Seems like the shrimp has more batter than usual. Service - about the same. No change after all these years. Slow. Ambiance - sit outside with the pigeons. The seating area doesn't get much attention to cleanliness. If you do drive thru be prepared to wait and potentially on the street. The food used to be worth the wait and the cost but not for us anymore. read more

The fries were not fresh. They tasted as if they were reheated in the microwave. The fish is just frozen fillets you can get the grocery store. There were pigeons flying near your food, so you will have to fight them to eat. It's outdoor dining. Very hot outside. The service was okay. Not friendly staff. read more

I almost can't believe I'm writing this, but after last night's visit, it's a must. I never thought the day would come when you had to check the star rating of a Petes fish and chips. What I received the last night was almost worthy of throwing out after the first bite. I have never in my life received undercooked Petes fish and chips. Some type of small circle shrimp that reflect nothing of the restaurant. A large fruit punch with I guess a quarter scoop of ice. Lesson learned all Petes fish and chips aren't created the same. The drive thru always has a line. Finally decided to stop by. Now I understand why locals love Pete's. The food is priced very well. It's not expensive at all. The quality of the food is nothing special. You're basic deep fried everything. Fired fish sticks, fried shrimp, fried fish and French fríes. I was curious about the crablets? They were ok. The sauce is a spicy ketchup horse radish type. I think the French fries were the best. We took the food to go and didn't want to take pictures. The bottom line is the prices are cheap, the fried food will fill up your tummy and the locals who grew up with it will always stay loyal. This is not for us and we won't be back. Tried Pete's for the first time for lunch today and I don't know why anyone would go there for a second time. The drive-through service was good and polite, so at least they have that going for them. I got the number one combo. The fish is a rectangular patty of breading that contains minced fish, not a fillet. The shrimp is basically a big nugget of breading with a tiny bit of shrimp inside, that also appears to be minced or formed, rather than an actual shrimp. The french fries were basic french fries. Well here it goes. My own review of Pete's Fish & Chips. First of all, very few of you know or realize that Pete's first opened in 1947. Peter McLane Grant, Jr. originally opened a 6' x 8' wooden shack on 31st and Van Buren Street. In 1947 I wasn't born yet but, by the time I was Pete's had been in business two years. I just wanted to add a bit of history to this review. Pete's has remained old school, and is probably one of the few places in the metropolitan community that only accepts cash. Has various locations across the Valley and some of them still remain as purely walk up to place your order. The one we went to for our fried fish with chips is located in Glendale. The problem with this location is that their drive through can be lengthy due to the fact that one has to wait for each order to be made. Which causes a back up onto Glendale Avenue. How else do you think the food is nice and hot! You are better off parking and walking up to order your food. We just happen to get lucky and were the only ones in the drive-thru. We did our usual fish and chips. The people that work at Pete's I have found to be very nice to their customers. I believe this was a trait handed down from Peter Grant, and his daughters continued his legacy. If I am not mistaken, they have never had to advertise, as it was always through word of mouth throughout the years. So if you are expecting some coastal type seafood, this is not your place. I just happen to be in the mood for fried fish. By the way they do have burgers, if that is want you are in the mood for. One word of advice if you do stop by at any of the Pete's Fish and Chips, go to the walk up window to place your order. Customers can get very impatient in the drive-thru. Like I said, they start making your order at the time you order. Remember too, that everything is fried, if that is what you are into. This is not your typical fast food, it is old school! I am giving it three stars, only because these times have completely changed our way of ordering takeout. Otherwise I would gladly give it a better rating for the memory of the original owner who made this like a fish and chips institution in the Valley. read more

At 12:55 PM today, I had the privilege of visiting the historic Pete's fish and chips. The location is 5516 W Glendale Av., Glendale Arizona. I was greeted by a mature male in his late 40's to early 50's. Great personality both warm and engaging. He took the time to clarify my order to avoid any mistakes. How could I forget Pete's only carries Pepsi products? I paid in cash as required and dropped my change in the "take a penny; leave a penny box." Thank you kind sir. I waited for them to call order #33! This is my indication that I am in the home stretch and the delicious golden goodness is just a few moments away. Boy was I mistaken. I was greeted with an attendant in her early 20's. She has brown hair and a full round face. I would say she's approximately 5'1 and 180-190lbs. I asked for a small container of Pete's sauce. She explained the additional cost. I clarified I left the change in the "take a penny; leave a penny box." Holding my receipt she asked "so how much was your change?" I said "never mind, I'll go to the car and get more. I'm back in 30 seconds and she ask "how may I help you?" I asked again for a small container of "Pete's sauce." She replied "that would be $0.11. I gave her a quarter and a penny. My expectation was $0.15 and no pennies. This further confused the attendant. The kind gentleman that took my order saw things going south quickly. He pick up my change and offered to return it. The female attendant still looked baffled. This presents a learning opportunity for the female attendant in customer service and a well deserved complement to "Johnny to the rescue." I too learned to exercise more patience as the restaurants begin to retrain their staff and rebound the economy. So that's four stars today for this five-star establishment. read more

Ok, first off this is all processed, fried frozen fish, absolutely nothing fresh about it. With that being said it's processed, fried frozen fish at its finest. Ordered takeout on a chilly November Monday. One 2 piece fish and chips, one seven piece shrimp, one kids chicken nugget meal. Cash only people, but the have an ATM for your "convenience." Waited only about 5 minutes and we were on our way. The fish. Perfect. Crispy, hot and not greasy goodness. The fries. Perfect. Hot and crispy even after the short 5 minute ride. My husband's minced and formed "shrimp" was good too. He loves the ketchup and Cholula mix the call Pete's Sauce. Me not so much. For 3 people $17 bucks isn't bad, we were all satisfied with our selections, it was all hot and fresh. My kid compared it to McDonald's and he ate it all. It's not gourmet but it's good! read more
