I have been going to this location for years. I used to think they were packed during the Lenten season, but I was wrong cause they are busy year round. They are a cash only establishment and they have ATM's on location in case you forget. I tend to get a two piece fish and chips to go and I think it comes with one sauce. It chewed, first bite, like it was burnt. Kinda snapped. But it wasn't burnt. unusual. Afd a touch of ketchup, DELICIOUS!! Fries were excellent. Somebody somewhere, Shamrock? figured out how to do well an 'industrial' fry and whether it's once or twice cooked, and I suspect it has to be twice-cooked, they are very good. I can name you at least three places around town that I think serve this fry and it's very very good. A Valley institution, Pete's was on my wife's bucket list. We'd been in the area for 20 years, yet had never tried them. I went with the "crabettes," not knowing what to expect. I got breaded tubes resembling deep-fried hot dogs. They offered a mild crab taste, which more or less evaporated beyond the first bite. My wife diagnosed them as surimi. The fries were OK, a bit dry, nothing special. She ordered the fish and chips, and a side of onion rings. The fish was formed rectangular slabs, edible enough. The onion rings were cooked perfectly, but unseasoned. Nothing we ordered was seasoned, and salt didn't really stick to the items after they got to the table. The drinks seemed diluted. If the sauce was anything other than ketchup, neither of us could testify to it. We did end up with enough food left over for another meal, a plus. This was sooo disappointing! I've been eating Pete's Fish for decades but since their dad died and the kids took over the quality of the food has severely declined. The shrimp used to be 2.5-3" filet. Today's shrimp is mostly breading with very little evidence of shrimp. And it's more like shrimp nuggets. The sauce which used to be amazing is nothing more than thinned down catsup. And the French Fries used to be amazing because they were real potatoes but today they are processed potato French fries. I went because the line was long, and thought it was good. The real reason its long is because they're slow! The whole experience was terrible, and definitely not worth the wait. They keep the window closed, so they don't even know when someone is waiting outside. I was looking in to get someone's attention, but it looked like they were all just standing around. But I had probably the the most iconic, enjoyable time the other day and I'm really just sharing it because I have a feeling lots of other people do this also. I ATE OUTSIDE AT PETES IN THE RAIN!! If you grew up in this area, then you know Pete's. We love coming here for their simple food choices at an affordable price! BUT they're only cash. Which can be bad if you don't have cash. Thankfully we bank with Chase and there's one less of a mile away. They also have an on-site ATM machine. Their food is average but like I said if you had it while growing up in this neighborhood, you probably really like a menu item. My personal favorite is the chicken tender meals! And we order a side of Pete's sauce since we like to use it a lot. They have kids items as well and both of my kids like to eat here. They actually enjoy the Pete's sauce as well! It has a "kick" to it but it's not spicy. There's plenty of seating but depending on the day and time, there might not be any! And same goes for drive thru. I've seen it back up to where there's a line of cars out on Glendale! I definitely recommend checking this location out and having some food. But don't expect to be blow away either!
