Friday lunch date with the hubby and decided to head over to westgate and found Mariscos El Flay that served Mexican good and they were not busy. We sat on the patio since we had our fur baby with us and the staff was very friendly and offered suggestions for our food. We order the fried fish which was a 10/10; the seafood soup and it was a huge bowl but very delish. Overall the food was good but a little pricey IMO.

Flavorless Guacamole and hard stale chips

I ordered chips and guacamole and a lemonade. The menu shows lemonade is $3.99 and yet I was charged $4.50. Why? No answer. I'm guessing a scam. The guacamole was made with no salt added so it was terrible. However, it was not as bad as the hard stale tortilla chips, also apparently sans salt, that it came with. If this is their best effort I am going to abstain from other items and I won't be returning.

We were craving mariscos on a Sunday afternoon and came here. We ordered one plate of ceviche curtido and another plate of ceviche cocido with crackers and tostadas on the side. Good service and food was great. Environment was great as well. Definitely coming back!

    Special house oysters

Their house blend is the best sauce I've ever had, that alone is what keeps us coming back, I believe it is a Viet style Cajun sauce. We usually get the build your own combo, with crawfish, snow crab, and a few appetizers like french fries, garlic noodles, and onion rings. I believe they have changed management recently, or in the past few years. Although the sauce remains delicious, the food quality seems to be falling, and I see that they have a few food safety violations listed on their Yelp. The garlic noodles were swimming in the watery sauce, and the Cajun fries were not tossed, just sprinkled on top. The restaurant has never been that busy when we go, and there is usually is only one server doing all the hosting, food running, and waitressing. Ours seemed to be a little stressed today, and did not refill our drinks as much as we would've preferred, and forgot things like our salt and pepper. We will probably still keep coming just for that sauce, but looks like the restaurant has a few things to work out to bring back its former glory.

The waitress was attentive the whole time, bathrooms were clean, and I really appreciated how mindful the staff was with my deaf friend. That always stands out to me. The calamari was okay. I liked it, but my friend said she's definitely had better. I also had to ask for lemon with the calamari. Last time I came with a friend they were completely out of lemons, so I was glad that wasn't an issue this time. I'd probably try something different instead of the calamari next visit though. We got the Pier 88 combo crab boil with the "All of the Above" seasoning in mild. It came out super quick and was very well seasoned. I personally thought it leaned a little salty, but I also saw other tables adding extra salt to their food, so I guess it just depends on your taste. Portions were good and everything tasted delicious. Very kid-friendly spot, pretty loud and lively inside, and honestly a great place for hosting bigger groups, family get-togethers, or even just catching up with a friend over drinks and seafood. I've been here before and would definitely come back again.

We started with the clam chowder, which was extremely watered down and completely lacking in flavor. It tasted more like soup that had been diluted than a proper chowder. We also ordered shrimp with the Pier 88 seasoning, but the spices were barely noticeable--there was almost no seasoning at all, which is pretty disappointing for a place that markets itself around bold flavors. The service was just okay--nothing terrible, but nothing that made up for the food. Overall, the experience didn't live up to the hype, and we won't be returning.

Houdini), was almost impossible to find. It honestly felt like he had a timer set to check on us every 20 minutes. Sit down, water. Disappears. 20 minutes later, takes our order. Gone again. Food arrives, quick check-in. Then... gone. We sat there another 20 minutes just trying to pay, basically held hostage waiting for the check. At one point, we flagged down another employee, a woman with a choker and a forearm tattoo, and asked if we could pay. She said, "I'll find him." Spoiler, she didn't. Meanwhile, Houdini magically reappears to drop off dessert at the table next to us, then pulls off a tactical spin move to avoid eye contact with our table entirely. Impressive, honestly. Eventually, a new table gets seated next to us and suddenly, poof, he's back. But instead of helping us, he goes straight into a pitch about the lobster queso (which, by the way, wasn't very good). We finally had to flag down a host who literally told our waiter we just wanted to leave. After about two hours in what can only be described as mediocre restaurant purgatory, we were finally able to pay and get out. Bottom line, slow service, poor attention, and food that doesn't make up for it. Not worth it.

Their clam chowder is the absolute best in the state and since we went to Seattle, acriss state lines too in our opinion. Mom's too. When she was in the hospital after a stroke and refused to eat anything they helped us out with thinning the chowder down a little for her because we were worried it would be too thick. And this was the only thing she regularly ate besides frostys so we were so appreciative of the staff for helping us with that. It's a great memory we reminisce on, now that she has past. But as always love the food and recommend the fish and chips, get your cod grilled or fried both are amazing. Their calamari is amazing too!
